On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show by talking about the wild and crazy storms they have been experiencing recently in central North Texas. They live right in the middle of Tornado Alley, and large storms are nothing that unusual at this time of year. Then, they get right into some Expanded Perspectives News, starting with a Worcester County, Massachusetts, couple who was driving on Route 20 late one night when they encountered a pair of tall, upright deer-headed animals with black hair and wolf-like legs. Next, a Michigan man recalls his grandpa's dogman encounter stories while he was working for the Forest Service in Manistee National Forest in 1949 when he was only 28 years old. Three massive dogs covered in long black hair were up against his neighbor's house, scratching at the siding and making visible claw marks with each swipe. After the break, Kyle presents some remarkable instances of reincarnation recounted by small children. Often, these children's statements vividly align with the lives and deaths of individuals who have passed away. Remarkably, some children even bear birthmarks or birth defects that mirror wounds or marks of the deceased, a fact corroborated by postmortem reports. Although older children may maintain these memories, they tend to diminish around the age of seven. These intriguing cases span the globe, with examples found in Europe and North America. Typically, children begin discussing their past lives around the age of 35 months, coinciding with their third birthday. As their verbal abilities develop, they may recount events from their previous existence or describe their former family members. Surprisingly, seventy-five percent of these children mention the circumstances of their previous death, with a significant majority—70%—involving unnatural means such as murder, suicide, or accidents in combat. From these findings, it's apparent that past life memories often stem from traumatic experiences. Children tend to divulge these details when they feel secure and at ease. As one expert notes, "The child has to be in the right frame of mind to talk about these things; it's usually during relaxed times, sometimes after a bath or during a car ride. Although past life memories are frequently associated with trauma, they typically fade by the time the child reaches six or seven years old. Merrimack Valley Credit Union members are being asked to vote in about two weeks to approve a merger with RTN Federal Credit Union.Members will cast votes at a special meeting to approve the merger and update the bylaws to reflect RTN's field of membership, which covers those who “reside, work or attend school in Worcester County…and immediate family members.” Merrimack Valley Credit Union President and CEO John J. Howard, appearing last week on WHAV's “Win for Breakfast” program, said there have been many credit union mergers over the years within the industry and involving Merrimack Valley Credit Union.“What happens is we become part of our family tree. Unified is a part of our family tree. Ocean Spray Credit Union is a part of our family tree. Merrimack College Credit Union is a part of our tree. Lawrence Postal Employees Credit Union is a part of our tree. So, there are multiple credit unions that make up the family tree of what our credit union is today,” he explained.Howard formerly led Bridgewater Credit Union and became president and CEO of both institutions following a 2019 merger. The current merger plan is recommended by Merrimack Valley's board of directors. Following member and regulatory approval, RTN Treasurer and CEO Richard E. Wright will serve as a special advisor to Howard.Merrimack Valley Credit Union, founded in 1955 to serve employees of the former Merrimack Valley Works of Western Electric, has more than $1.2 billion in assets. There are 10 branches located in Bridgewater, Fairhaven, Haverhill, Lawrence, Methuen, North Andover, Plymouth and Quincy in Massachusetts and Plaistow and Seabrook in New Hampshire. Following the merger, there will be 19 branches.Howard said credit unions are owned by its members and membership qualifications vary based on a credit unions' charter.“Different types of charters that different credit unions have: There's a geographic charter which is what Merrimack Valley's charter is. There is a SEG which is a specific employer group. For example RTN, started out with Raytheon and that's how they began their process,” he said. The merger vote takes place Wednesday, March 29, between noon and 6 p.m., at Merrimack Valley Credit Union's main office, 500 Merrimack St., in Lawrence. Only those members appearing person may cast a ballot.Support the show

Lindsay is joined by Andrew Noone, author of the book “Bathsheba Spooner: A Revolutionary Murder Conspiracy.” What possessed a woman from the elite of eighteenth-century New England society to conspire with American and British soldiers to murder her husband at the midpoint of the American Revolution? The story of Bathsheba Spooner has alternately fascinated and baffled residents of Worcester County for centuries. Beyond central Massachusetts, the tale is largely unknown. Many, when first hearing of the tale, assume it to be the stuff of legend. It was, in fact, the most sensational “true crime” tragedy of the American 1700's. Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis, the first Republican Sheriff in almost 50 years from Worcester County, Massachusetts, has created waves throughout the country with his innovative inmate work program. This program looks to take “low risk offenders” from the prisons and offer them the opportunity to take part in helping their local communities in various forms, partnering with local businesses while teaching inmates life skills that leaves them with feelings of “accomplishment and dignity”, some, for the first time in their lives. The Sheriff comments that “this type of innovative programming” is needed throughout prisons across the United States, as “too many politicians want programs that make people dependent on them for power”. Saying, “the real power is when an individuals feels a sense of dignity, respect, and an accomplishment.” Not only has the programs helped with inmates mental health and equipping them with life skills, but has reduced recidivism rates by almost 50% and saved the community $8 million dollars.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I was hired by the Maryland Forest Service as an Asst. Project Forester in 1986 and began my forestry career working in Allegany and Garrett Counties. In 1987 I accepted the Project Forester's position in Worcester County. In 1996 I left state service to take a job with Cropper Brothers Lumber Co. in Willards, Md., where I was responsible for all wood procurement activities along with the management of their family-owned timberlands. In December of 2013, I began working for Glatfelter as an area forester procuring pulpwood for the Eastern Shore District. In 2018, Glatfelter's Specialty Papers Unit was reborn as Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC. I have a BS in Forestry (1982) from Virginia Tech. I am a member and past chair of the Md./De. I had scheduled “Brad,” from Episode 334, to come on tonight's show and answer questions about his Dogman hunt, but He backed out of coming back on, due to the responses he saw listeners give, after listening to Episode 334. Due to "Brad" losing interest in coming back on, I lined up another eyewitness and his name is Matt. The Pocomoke State Forest is 18,000 acres in size and lies on both banks of the Pocomoke River, in Worcester County, Maryland. For a long time, the forest has had a reputation for being haunted. In fact, the Pocomoke is considered to be one of the top 15 most haunted forests in the world. As if that wasn't bad enough, some locals say that a Werewolf stalks the forest. Most of the people who live near the forest think the talk of a Werewolf living there is ridiculous, of course, but tonight's guest, Matt, would beg to differ. You see, 20 years ago, after heading to the Pocomoke, before dawn, to hunt, with two friends, Matt found out the hard way that where there's smoke, there's usually fire. Most photo collectors dream about stumbling upon a significant collection that changes our understanding of photo history. For Frank Morrill, it was a series of connections that led to his purchasing a huge collection of glass negatives. Years later his granddaughter held one up and asked him about them. That second look led to a collaboration with a historian at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, an exhibit and an award winner catalog for the show. Those negatives documented the African American community in that city, a group of individuals studied by Janette Greenwood for a project on migrations. She never thought she'd see the faces of those individuals nor did the descendants of many of the people in the photographers. It was a case of photographic kismet. Mike is probably the most energetic and enthusiastic teacher for Worcester County and perhaps the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Mike shares his journey from growing up near Ocean City Golf Club and following his dad around the course. His dad worked at the golf course. He played a little golf himself, but decided to play a couple of years of football, while at Stephen Decatur High School. But, then he found his love for drama and student government. MJ, as he is often called, graduated from Salisbury University, with a degree in Elementary Education. He later received his Masters in School Counseling from Wilmington University in 2004. This fall will be Mike's 23rd year of teaching at Showell Elementary. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Today, another in Midday's series of Conversations with the Candidates.Tom's guest is Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot. He’s been the state’s fiscal chief since 2007, after firsxt beating the incumbent, William Donald Schaefer, in the 2006 primary. As comptroller, Franchot is a member of powerful Board of Public Works in Annapolis. And he is vice-chair of the State Retirement ---- Pension System. Franchot is a Democrat who does not always toe the party line. His relationship with the legislative leadership in Annapolis -- fellow Democrats Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael E. Busch -- has seemed increasingly frayed this year. Franchot does seem to have a close working relationship with Republican Gov. Larry Hogan. Before becoming Maryland’s top fiscal officer, Franchot served in the House of Delegates for two decades, representing the 20th District in Montgomery Co. That district reaches roughly from Takoma Park, north to Colesville. He has been Maryland’s comptroller for 11 years, and he is seeking a fourth term. His opponent in the November election is a CPA from Worcester County, Republican Anjali Reed Phukan. This conversation was livestreamed on the WYPR Facebook page. To check out that video, click here.

Sam Quinones, acclaimed author of the book Dreamland, connects the dots of the heroin epidemic and how it found its way to even the most unsuspecting areas? The story, researched with the grit of a journalist, but with the magical story telling of any block buster producer, considers everything from its Mexican origins, to its reach into white suburbs, to the strong influence of the medical community and then, leaves us with a message of hope, found in recovery. District Attorney Joe Early, who graciously brings Sam to Worcester County, joins Airing Addiction for this fascinating discussion.
