APCOR was founded in 1956 and establishes cork production and manufacturing standards, promotes Research & Development, and educates both professionals and consumers. Cork is a sustainable and regenerative material for bottle closures, for example a Life Cycle Analysis by PwC found that a plastic closure emits 10 times more CO2 than a cork stopper and aluminum cap closures emit 24 times more CO2 than a cork stopper. APCOR has approximately 270 members who represent more than 85% of cork exports from Portugal. Griffith Foods has been bringing food science into the food industry for over 100 years to improve safety and nutrition. CB Bhattacharya is the H.J. Zoffer Chair in Sustainability and Ethics at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh. He is a world renowned expert in business strategy innovation aimed at increasing both business and social value. His research and teaching focuses specifically on how companies can use underleveraged “intangible assets” such as corporate identity, reputation, corporate social responsibility and sustainability to strengthen stakeholder relationships and drive firm market value. Prof. Bhattacharya has published over 100 articles and has over 28,000 citations per Google Scholar. His latest book entitled Small Actions Big Difference: Leveraging Corporate Sustainability to Drive Business and Societal Value was published by Routledge in 2019. He is co-author of the book Leveraging Corporate Responsibility: The Stakeholder Route to Maximizing Business and Social Value and co-editor of the book Global Challenges in Responsible Business, both published by Cambridge University Press. He has served on the Editorial Review Boards and served as Editor of special issues of many leading international publications. Prof. Bhattacharya is the founder of the Center for Sustainable Business as well as the ESMT Sustainable Business Roundtable, a forum with more than 25 multinational members, aimed at discussing opportunities and challenges in mainstreaming sustainability practices within organizations. In 2007 he started the Stakeholder Marketing Consortium with support from the Aspen Institute. Prof. Bhattacharya is part of a select group of faculty that has been named twice to Business Week’s Outstanding Faculty list. He has been recognized by both Thomson Reuters and Google Scholar as one of the top cited scholars in his field. He has won several best paper awards, teaching awards and research prizes. He was also a finalist for the Aspen Institute’s Faculty Pioneer Award in 2007. In addition, he received the Emory Williams Distinguished Teaching Award in 1995, the highest teaching award at Emory University. In this talk, CB Bhattacharya, a visiting Stanford professor and author of Leveraging Corporate Responsibility: The Stakeholder Route to Maximizing Business and Social Value, examines why the traditional approach to CSR should be reexamined. Speaking at a seminar organized by the Stanford Center for Social Innovation, he details how his research supports stakeholder-driven corporate social responsibility initiatives. In this new video, CB Bhattacharya, E.ON Chair in Corporate Responsibility, talks about his recent research. He examines the question: “When companies do good things for the environment or for society, does it actually influence the consumer’s intention to buy their products rather than a competitor‘s product?” CB Bhattacharya’s expertise is in the area of business strategy innovation aimed at increasing both business and social value. He is especially interested in how companies can use underleveraged “intangible assets” such as corporate identity and reputation, membership and brand communities, and corporate social responsibility to strengthen stakeholder relationships.

CB Bhattacharya is the E.ON Chair Professor in Corporate Responsibility at ESMT European School of Management and Technology in Berlin, Germany. On September 1, 2010 the president appointed him the Associate Dean of International Relations and on April 1, 2011, Dean of International Relations. Prof. Bhattacharya received his PhD in Marketing from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1993 and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in 1984. Before joining ESMT in 2009, he was the Everett W. Lord Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Marketing at the School of Management at Boston University. Before joining Boston University, he was on the faculty at the Goizueta Business School, Emory University. Prior to his PhD, CB worked for three years as a Product Manager in Reckitt Benckiser plc. His expertise is in the area of business strategy innovation aimed at increasing both business and social value, specifically how companies can use underleveraged "intangible assets" such as corporate identity and reputation, membership and brand communities, and corporate social responsibility to strengthen stakeholder relationships.

Today we had the opportunity to talk to CB Bhattacharya, E.ON Chair Professor in Corporate Responsibility, at the ESMT European School of Management and Technology. He is responsible for the ESMT Sustainable Business Roundtable (SBRT). The forum took place in Berlin today. The ideas behind the SBRT is to establish a partnership between business and academia. CB Bhattacharya is talking about the progress of green industries, the phenomenon of greenwashing and the important role of social media in the process.
