We're very lucky to be here. Baker, host, teller, I once practiced law in Cleveland, Ohio. Baker, we love Cleveland, and that's Baker's head quarters, and we are here at their home. And I'd like Margaret to say a few words. Margaret Butler of BakerHostetler 00:21Mark, thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. It's really a very few words, because all I want to say is thank you to Olga. I hope she's here for connecting me with Mark. And thank you, Mark, for bringing all these amazing people here. I have had such an amazing day listening to all of you, and I Well, thank you. I love all of you. I'm Margaret Butler. I am the head of the financial services industry team here at Baker, Hostetler. And so I want to thank my team, definitely. Joe Matteo, who's been putting everything together, Cynthia, Kevin e who is here, my Managing Partner, George Sam bollitus, who was also around for making this possible for all of us and for me. Because, like I said, I really just enjoy this so much. Thank you all for being here and get to the good stuff. I don't know if you need this one. I 01:18don't know how he has it set up, probably. So 01:22thank you for having us, Bill Deuchler 01:27I guess so. So this is Mark style. He just leaves the room and lets the panelists take over. Okay, so we can go ahead and do introductions when you talking about digital assets and fin tech and well, no, hey, I'm buying you time. Mark Sanor 01:47Get mark out of the way. 01:51Go ahead. Okay, Mark Sanor 01:55that was your 2024, go ahead. Sorry. Go right. Bill Deuchler 01:59So I'll introduce myself, and then hand the mic over to my colleagues up here. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Bill D clear. Currently, I serve as trustee for our municipal police pension fund. I've been on the board there for eight years. We have more of a traditional portfolio, but more recently, we've we have an active conversation, and actually an allocation for private equity that we've yet to fund, private credit, which has been funded and specialty real estate, which is another asset class. Previously, I was CIO for two two family offices, and have been around the institutional world quite a bit, and also currently advise a venture capital fund in the fin tech and AI space that has some very interesting characteristics, and I'll talk a little bit about that generally, as far as what an allocator looks for. But I will hand the mic over to my esteemed friend and colleague, Rich Sobel, Rich Sobel 02:55thanks. It's nice to be here. Nice to see everybody I am kind of wearing multiple hats. The hat that brings me up here is I'm a founder partner in a $50 million early stage fund that invests in blockchain and web three fin tech fund was set up three years ago, four years ago, I knew relatively little about this, and it's been a tough couple of years in the digital asset space. We went through what some people would call crypto winter. That's over, and I think we're coming into a period that could arguably be called a tipping point, kind of a renaissance, in the penetration of these technologies and tools and business models that are going to disrupt major markets, and we'll talk a little bit more about that catalyst. One of the catalysts is the change in regulatory policy. I'm sure we'll talk a little bit about that. So I'm quite excited about the changes that come but it's clearly a risky area. So it's not some place you put the majority of your of your assets, but it's something that I'm quite excited about, and I'm happy to share my perspectives. Will Wolf 04:18Yeah, thanks. Thanks everyone for being here and for having me. I This is me and my partner, Vanessa's first time here. My name is Will. I'm a managing partner and co founder of arc capital, which is an early stage Digital Asset Fund we just got off the ground last year, and I met Mark, I think, last week or two weeks ago, and we joined and so this is our first time here. So Thanks for welcoming us. We we are basically inter I am also a fin tech co founder. Back in 2012 I co founded a company in the fin tech space. We went through Y Combinator and ended up getting acquired into Airbnb, and I manage some of their back end payments infrastructure. So I know a bit about the the payment rails, Rails, at least in the West, and sort of the fin tech ecosystem. Them, but we're very excited at arch capital to be investing in what we think is the future of financial infrastructure globally, which is web three, and what's being built there, all Mark Sanor 05:11right, this is what happens when I don't lead off. So this is good. It's good. But what I want are insights. What are you seeing that we don't know? Or what scares or excites, hopefully both. Rich Sobel 05:25I know in some of the areas that we're focused, there's tremendous change going on under the surface that's starting to come out of the ground. And one of those areas is payments, and payments using Blockchain and stable coins, is a 1,000% improvement on the old, incumbent way of making payments. It's particularly impactful when payments are going across border to emerging markets, which is reducing, or, in fact, sometimes eliminating, the volatility and risk in emerging markets currencies, which is making the world closer, so incumbents are being disrupted, and we're invested in a company I spoke about, I think, back in December, that is making remittances to Africa, and they're using the data on the chain to help those people who are making payments improve their credit scores, which opens up all kinds of new financial products to the UN banked folks right here in America. And so there are growing number of companies that are doing that. Some of the incumbents, like Visa and others, are coming around and looking to partner in this space. And the second area I'll mention, and then I'll leave, there's many areas, so I'm clearly leaving some out of respect for my esteemed colleagues. Here is tokenization of assets. So there is a better model for holding and trading securities, funds and real assets, and the tokenization model now works, and so it's been held up by the US SEC and the litigation and impediments that they had established. But those litigations, last week, they dropped the litigation against coin base, which is really like the red light, and they're also changing policy. So there's an executive order going on that Trump signed in his first week. Within 180 days, he expects a whole new set of policies to be proposed, and that's going to make major financial institutions see a green light to move more actively into this space, on bringing assets on chain, democratizing access, improving liquidity. I mean, it's like the frog in the frying pan that if you know people don't see it on a day to day, week to week, basis, but I assure you that within five years, there's going to be dramatic changes. And this year, 2024 there was one and a half billion, one and a half trillion, of tokenized assets. Conservative estimates put it at 16 trillion by 2030 so it's really going to change the way we deal with financial assets, and eventually all assets. I Mark Sanor 08:10like everything. Just didn't quite understand the frog and the frying plan. You don't see it 08:15on a day to day basis, the frog in the well, you're not from Will Wolf 08:17Ohio, the boiling pot of water. Yeah, there you go. No, I agree with that completely. I think, I definitely do think that stable coins in this ecosystem, people sort of outside the ecosystem, don't appreciate maybe what's going on there. You know, we're very close with the teams at both Master Card and visa that have very intelligent blockchain web, three teams building very interesting things. A lot of people don't know. Visa has been settling actual, real payments on both Ethereum and Solana for almost two years, and they're growing that volume, and they, you know, that gets you to on Solana, 400 millisecond settlement times on global payments for visa. So that's pretty powerful for them, and that this is stuff that's really happening. And I also think in terms of the new administration in the US, I think they may not fully understand this yet, but I think the stable coin market right now, the is a couple 100 billion dollars, but the rate that it's been growing is, I mean, I think a couple years ago it was 10s of billions or less. And this is a new source of global demand for dollars, which is important with what's going on in sort of our treasury markets right now. You know, circle whole, which is one of the stable coin providers, holds 100 $50 billion of treasuries. And if that gets to a trillion or 2 trillion, that makes them pretty important. And people all over the world want dollar stable coins instead of their African currency or their South East Asian currency, and they can get it because it's just, you just need an internet connection. And so I think this is very powerful for the dollar, for the US system. I think the administration is going to realize that. And I think even broader, what the technology means is, over time, getting rid of middle men everywhere, globally in the financial system. I. Them because we don't need them anymore, and so this is going to take multiple decades, but I think that's the inevitable end game. Bill Deuchler 10:10One of the central themes, from an allocator standpoint, is investing in innovation. And you know, both ourselves and some of my colleagues from a much larger pension system were quite interested. You know, back actually around 18 or so in the blockchain space. Back then, it was much more nascent. Not much was going on, except people knew that Bitcoin was used by drug dealers and other nefarious schemes. But none the less, the idea of investing in innovation and seeing the kind of radical transformation to fundamental systems, to our economy was, was the attraction. And I think that things somewhat got put on pause with the FTX debacle and the crypto winter, but now things have matured considerably. And so you see, you know, the tremendous growth of the stable coin market and the ability to transact much more efficiently there, it's a great opportunity to participate in something that it's truly going to change the fundamental systems of how we interact. And I think also from an investor standpoint, both on the fin tech side, as well as the blockchain side, you can see various companies that have good ideas and who can master the go to market exercise. Well, all of a sudden, at very, very early stages of their growth, they are actually revenue positive. And if you can find companies that are revenue positive, and you can still get in at the seed and pre seed stage, that is a tremendous advantage, because then you can track them in a way that you can't track companies that are still pre revenue and and that's the whole venture capital exercise is either an exercise in the law of large numbers or just spray and pray, which is how it turns out. And there are very few who do it, but I think that this space facilitates a much more disciplined way to attack venture capital. And again, as an allocator, I've seen just two firms who have been able to master that. One is a master at understanding the law of large numbers and how to put the statistics in your favor. The other one goes after these types of companies, as I say, that are revenue producing and being able to act more like incubators or not. So I think that that again, you know, for an allocator perspective, the idea to be able to participate in significant innovation and then also seeing unique circumstances of the individual companies that you can then use to your advantage and build out your portfolios in a more robust way. There's two really great opportunities associated with this space, Rich Sobel 13:02I think it's probably clear to everybody here, but you know, what we do is not pure and simple crypto, and what we're doing is not trading currencies and trading staking or tokens on the secondary market. That's a different business. There are people who are good at it. We don't think that that's nearly as compelling as investing in companies and protocols that are building applications and tools that leverage the infrastructure that's been built. And so those are what we're looking at. Are more application, asset, light businesses that don't require a lot of money until until you figure out if it's going to work. So the risk return on those types of venture early stage investments is much more interesting. Again, I'm not speaking just for us, but I'm speaking for a class of investors. There are relatively few early stage GPS doing this, and most of them don't have a three fund track record. So it's an emerging market. I spent 20 plus years of my life working in another emerging market. That's how I ended up here. I have kind of an appetite for risk and comfort working in new environments where the model is you really have to underwrite the people and understand their business model. If they can't succinctly tell you what their business model they probably haven't figured it out yet, and they might, but it's a much higher risk. So we're investing in what I call my partners. Don't really like this, but because I'm kind of an older guy in this team, I call it the App Store for web three. So you're basically thinking about the phone comes out, the infrastructure is in place. Now you want the tools that solve real problems, and those are coming. And just to put a little icing on the cake, if you look at the NVCA data in 2021 a lot of money was raised. It was a. Hyped market, and in the last couple of years, relatively little capital has been raised for what they broadly call crypto and digital asset venture. So on top of all the other things that have been putting pressure on companies and funds, the lack of new capital flowing in creates a very interesting dynamic for capital that becomes available. So I fundamentally think there's a combination of reasons going to make it quite interesting. But as Tim Draper said to a group here, when people say, How's it going with your early stage deals? He said it's like raising kids. It's going to take a long time till you really know. But we're proud about the way things are going. We like talking about the portfolio. That's the way of giving people a tangible idea about the kinds of things that are coming out of the ground that will change our lives and our kids lives before you really know it. Will Wolf 15:54Yeah, I like that last part you talked about. One of the things we think about is, or a phrase I like to use is, every fin tech startup today is a crypto company. Some of them just don't know it yet, because I think that is what the new features that we'll be able to push the envelope and provide new functionality are going to be built on, like we've already got the stripes, and these guys that have, like, milked everything out of the current like legacy financial system with t plus one settlement and stuff like that. And so to push the envelope, I think they're going to have to offer crypto services underneath. And that's what I'm excited about, is to see, you know, PayPal now is another example. They have their own stable coin, and they're trying to integrate more utility into their consumer app, which I think is a little more interesting than, like the visa Master Card stuff, because they're not really targeting consumers, but we're seeing it with PayPal. Stripe, you know, I mentioned earlier, just did a billion dollar cash acquisition of a stable Coin Company, and stripe is arguably the, you know, the expert of the traditional credit card and payment rails, and they understood the value of this new ecosystem that they were willing to pay up for it. So I think that speaks a lot. But I think we're going to see a lot of even just traditional fin techs offering new products that wouldn't be possible without crypto rails, and I don't think a lot of their users are going to need to know or care that they're using stable coins or blockchains underneath. It will just be transparent, and we'll be able to do much more than we can today. Mark Sanor 17:13So questions to this group as we talked about fin tech 2019 we were in Detroit, and the guy runs a swimming school, and he said, even swimming school, everybody's a fin tech company, because, yeah, you interact with a customer. So I guess there's so by definition, every company is a crypto company. Potentially. Vince got a question. It's Ben Narasin 17:41going to push back a little, I think, stable coins and powering and amazing things. Basically, it's an alternative rail with no real cost associated, compared to the existing stuff and remittances. But I've always bridled at the term web three. The web changed everything for everybody. I'd love any of you didn't tell me anything that web three has changed in a material way. There's speculative currencies, there's meme coins, also speculative. There's an enormous amount of speculative products. Stable coin, though, to me, feels like a totally separate thing, and fractionalized ownership of assets is interesting, but I could just as easily do that in Oracle server. You have to trust me, if you're going to buy a 16 of the Mona Lisa from me. So I'm still questing for I did one blockchain related investment in 2014 I've never done any sense. I just can't find the the there. There other than stable coin transfers. Mark Sanor 18:36I love it when we don't all agree. Rich Sobel 18:39First of all, since 2017 the kind of power of the technology of blockchain has improved about 1,000% so the things that you could do in 2014 is kind of very, very insignificant compared to what the technology can do today. Second of all is, everybody talks about this boom on AI and how great AI is, and how much capital is flowing in, how many new businesses are having an AI component to them. But for AI to really work, you need to have smart contracts and blockchain based tools to help these agents interact with each other, for agents to make payments to each other for these automatic things to work. Software driven by blockchain is a key determinant to a big part of its pulling it along. And actually, interestingly, William and Vanessa and my partners and I are invested in a company together, nap the AI, that sort of services that space social is another one of the spaces that is allowing decentralized use of content and information to give users more control and allow users to essentially retain more of the economic value. So in. Say 10 years models like Facebook will not be monopolizing, that those tools will be decentralized. So it's 20:09been 1,000% better since 2017 we're 10 years past that. Again, eight. Only where? Rich Sobel 20:17Okay, okay, listen, in the United States. I'm sorry, in the United States, the regulatory policy has been so hostile that they have essentially litigated and driven money and entrepreneurship away from this. So I think we're when you build a building, first you go down, and then it comes out of the ground. When you have a plant, first it goes down, you build the infrastructure, and then it comes out of the ground. So if we meet in a year or three, I think you'll be buying me lunch. Will Wolf 20:47So first off, I think it's a very good, good criticism. Oh, can I answer this one? Yeah, I think, I think it's a good criticism that that we get a lot, I think from a Western centric view, I think it's, it's fairly valid. Because I think, you know, for all the bad things I said earlier. Our financial systems work, you know, but I think there are those in, say, Venezuela or almost any African country, where they are just devouring stable coins us, dollar denominated stable coins, because their currencies are devaluing by 15% to the dollar, they can hold a stable coin just on their phone with internet connection, the government can't stop them from doing it, and they can get 8% yield in US dollar terms, while their currency goes down 15% a year. And that's literally saving people's lives. For a more anecdotal example, you know, there have been people. There was one, one girl, specifically that I know, did an interview, and she was able to escape Afghanistan with her family's wealth because she put it into Bitcoin and wrote down her 12 seed words where, you know, they couldn't find it when she left. So she could actually bring her wealth and, like, have a family somewhere else. So I think these things are happening, and it's, it's not Western centric, mainly the stable coin, which is that one was Bitcoin with the Afghanistan girl, but, yeah, sort Ben Narasin 21:59of like Charlie Munger argument the dollar is freely available all over the world, and there are many ways to hold it, but this is a pH I do like stable coin, as I led with, yeah, I think that's rational. I don't I think the dollar is not available 22:13to Speaker 6 22:16Zimbabwe. And my thing is, I'm with him to where I'm going to push back as well, especially on the decentralization aspect of it, because you have large institutional players who are who see it as a threat to their to existing business models, right, and are innovating in that space in order to maintain some type of central control over what happens in this area. So I'm kind of also hesitant on saying, oh, that's going to decentralize everything, and you're going to completely eliminate middle men. I think they're just going to transform into something where they have some some grasp over the transactions. Will Wolf 23:01I also think it's a valid point. I don't know specifically, if you're talking about banks, Mark Sanor 23:05can you disagree with somebody not joking? Will Wolf 23:07Well, that doesn't that doesn't mean that I agree with it. I think it's a valid point. It's true. That's true. But I think, you know, part of me, I like that, maybe the Trojan horse analogy. But if you've been following, like with the new administration, a bunch has come out. I don't know if you've heard the term operation choke point 2.0 you know, we had silver gate bank go under, and it's become clear, and basically factual, that it didn't really fail. The Fed forced them to shut down by stopping them from doing crypto business. And I think we've seen now that there are over 47 banks in the last two years in the US that wanted to offer crypto products proactively, but the FDIC, and the FDIC shut them down and didn't let them do that. So I think to say that they don't want these things, you know, I think maybe some of them don't understand that it may ultimately destroy their businesses very far down the road. And maybe I'm wrong and they won't. So that's where I get the Trojan horse example. But I think a lot of these businesses want to offer these, whether it's a Bitcoin product or a stable coin product, to their customers getting involved, because there is Speaker 6 24:06a risk to the existing Speaker 4 24:10business model, right? So they're hedging Exactly. So that kind of makes my Brian Neirby 24:13point slightly different, pivot on the conversation. So we have what the state of Utah, Wisconsin, I know there's another one in there that's Louisiana, or this their treasury secretaries, you know, backing a crypto reserve, right? So those are three. We know that Don Junior loves crypto. We know that senior loves crypto. We know that Bobby loves crypto. So we have some tail winds coming out of this new administration. You. So I'm a nerd. I love the blockchain from a tech standpoint, I love the utilization and elasticity of Bitcoin. In particular, I believe all roads lead to Bitcoin. You walk around Istanbul, you see i. Are tickers everywhere of what's happening within all the coins. What's it going to take for the US to get to that point? Bill Deuchler 25:12You raise an excellent point, because since, since we are the world reserve currency, and because our economy, arguably, is the most robust in the world. A lot of the advantages of digital don't aren't readily apparent to us, but I think it's, as will has pointed out, if you're at all outside the US, if you are definitely in in a third world country, the advantage of the decentralized currency is huge. It is the litter, literally, night and day. And so I, I hate to say that it would be a crisis that would cause that, you know, to all of a sudden the light bulb go on. But it could very well be, but we're in a very enviable situation. I think the opportunity for the US is to be able to take advantage of all the features that digital offers and be able to build it into the system. The one thing that I'll say, that I've been saying for a real long time, is that one does have to be careful about Central Bank digital currencies, because digital currencies are programmable money, and if a central bank issues it, number one, it's tied to the monetary policy of that central bank and the state authority that oversees it. The other thing is that they can, for better or for worse, direct or Yeah, or imp, thank you. How the currency is used, and it is so easy. You know, everybody says, oh, micro monetary policy. Wouldn't that be just terrific, because then we can target like certain areas of the economy where it needs to be spent, things like that. Think about your bank account. All of a sudden you have digital currency in there. The next morning, you wake up and you don't so digital central bank digital currencies, will compromise freedom. They will compromise privacy in ways that we have no idea other than that. So I think kind of that's great. It's the decentralization aspect of it that is so critical for a real successful Mark Sanor 27:21so look, before you know, it's 330 just Stephen Burke 27:23on that bill. Isn't the bank financial settlements pushing for such beneficial currencies? Yeah, Speaker 2 27:33yeah. Certainly the the operational characteristics you know, are good, but one Mark Sanor 27:38so every, every quarter we revisit this subject. So it's time to revisit it. I Will Wolf 27:44think, I think they are and I think they will happen elsewhere. I think they're very unlikely to happen in the United States, at the Federal Reserve. Because what people usually mean, I think, by a central bank digital currency is the retail, the end user, you and I would have accounts directly at the Fed on this system. It would get rid of the banks entirely, like JP Morgan Chase would be gone, right? Like, we don't need them anymore. You would just have accounts directly with the Fed, because, because, other than that, the dollar is a central bank digital currency already. I mean, 98% of the dollars are digital. They just have to flow through the retail bank. But only the only the banks can have accounts with the Fed, not you or I, and so the banks own the Fed, so they're not going to let the Fed do a central bank digital currency, because they don't want to kill themselves. So that's that's my take. Mark Sanor 28:28Okay, so there will be a break out soon, and you can hammer this these questions, and we'll come back and have a de brief, and we'll have a I'll be here again, but let's thank this panel for kicking off the fin tech, digital. "I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing!" We Know Nothing sums up the testimony so far from Don Junior and Eric Trump in the New York civil trial over business fraud … a trial that could put the Trump Organization out of business. In coming days we'll likely hear more pleas of ignorance from one-time White House aide Ivanka Trump and her Daddy, as the former President testifies in court under oath for the first time. And it comes one year from Election Day 2024. 365 days after we set our clocks back over the weekend, America will have the chance to set our nation back generations by returning Donald Trump to the Oval Office. In Michigan, more action on a boatload of Democratic legislative priorities, some even garnering the rarest of all achievements: bipartisan support. On the list: Ambitious laws to reduce the state's carbon footprint Compromise legislation easing the red tape surrounding seeking an abortion And comprise legislation implementing last year's statewide vote on ethics reform Senate Majority Floor Leader Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) Also this week: Growing talk that Peter Meijer will join the GOP race for the U.S. Senate which is very bad news for Mike Rogers, even as the DeVos family dumps 46-thousand-dollars into the Rogers campaign; The U.S. House tables a resolution of censure targeting Rashida Tlaib; And the most important story of the week: the apparent end to the weeks-long UAW strike against the Big 3 domestic automakers, with strong hints of unionization efforts at Tesla and foreign manufacturers. We're joined this week by Senator Majority Floor Leader Sam Singh who is deeply involved in just about every key issue facing lawmakers. As Floor Leader, Singh is the traffic cop for legislation in the Senate. He's also lead sponsor of some of the most critical legislation facing the Legislature this year. Singh, an East Lansing Democrat, was Democratic Leader in the last of his three terms in the state House. He is also a former Mayor of East Lansing. Singh's state Senate district includes his alma mater, Michigan State University, which is dealing with multiple leadership crises right now. =========================== EPIC ▪ MRA is a full service survey research firm with expertise in: • Public Opinion Surveys • Market Research Studies • Live Telephone Surveys • On-Line and Automated Surveys • Focus Group Research • Bond Proposals - Millage Campaigns • Political Campaigns & Consulting • Ballot Proposals - Issue Advocacy Research • Community - Media Relations • Issue - Image Management • Database Development & List Management =========================== "Addled Trump Confuses Sioux City and Sioux Falls; Ivanka Ordered to Testify" - A Closer Look (Late Night with Seth Meyers)

Shortly before he surrendered to authorities on Thursday, Donald Trump replaced his top lawyer in Georgia, swapping him out for a high-profile white collar criminal defense attorney. And even though this new lawyer looks good on paper with an impressive resume, it didn't take long for him to completely humiliate himself with an idiotic statement about the case that proves he has no chance of winning. Also, Kari Lake is being sued for defamation by an election official in the state of Arizona, and she appears to admit in a recent court filing that she did, in fact, lie about what the man did. But Lake swears that her lies are protected by the First Amendment, even though slander/libel/defamation are clearly NOT protected forms of speech. Lake is now in a position where it is almost impossible for her to win this case. And finally, Marjorie Taylor Greene was left absolutely livid and embarrassed following the Republican primary debate on Wednesday evening after Fox News banned her from entering the "spin room" to act as a surrogate for Donald Trump. Trump's son, Don Junior, was also banned from entering the room, but he didn't have as big of a meltdown as Marge. But Fox had already told them they wouldn't be allowed in, so the reality is that Marjorie was trying to play it up for the cameras to paint herself, and Trump, as victims of "censorship."

All eyes are on Georgia now, as the campaigns for both senate seats are underway to determine which party will control the US Senate. For Democrats, the starting point for winning in Georgia is the historic work of Stacey Abrams. When she ran for governor of Georgia in 2018 as the first African American and the first woman candidate, she got more votes than any Democrat in Georgia history, including Obama and Hillary Clinton. But because of Republican vote suppression she was not elected. Nevertheless she paved the way for Biden to win the state—a historic victory. We spoke with her in April 2019, about how she built the coalition that now hopes to win two senate seats in January. Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: The feds have brought an antitrust case against Google. It’s one thing Democrats and Republicans can agree is long overdue. Meanwhile, health insurance scammers have blitzed the internet with ads for bogus Trumpcare plans. Google – surprise, surprise – is among those profiting. And lastly, Donald Trump’s campaign has wasted a boatload of money, according to a review of expenditures. But at least they got Don Junior’s stupid book onto the bestseller list. THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: Antitrust: Feds sue Google The Justice Department sued Google yesterday, saying the company has an illegal and abusive monopoly over internet search technology. It is the first antitrust case against Google to result from yearslong investigations into the company’s conduct by the DOJ, Congress, and the states. Eleven state attorneys general, all Republicans, joined the suit. Attorney General Bill Barr reportedly wanted to bring the case before the November election to please Donald Trump, who has vowed to take on Big Tech. According to the New York Times, the government says Google is illegally protecting its dominant position in the market for search with the deals it has struck with companies like Apple. For example, Google pays Apple billions of dollars a year to have its search engine set as the default option on iPhones. To prevail, the Justice Department has to show two things: that Google is dominant in search, and that its deals with Apple and other companies hobble competition. Although those seem like easy things to prove, the case is likely to take years. Democrats have also sought to counter Google’s monopoly market power. Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline, the chairman of the top competition-focused panel in the House of Representatives, told the Washington Post QUOTE antitrust enforcement against Google is long overdue ENDQUOTE. The Post reports that a handful of states including Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska and New York issued a joint public statement yesterday indicating they are still scrutinizing a wide array of Google’s business practices and may opt to join any federal case later. The more the merrier! Trumpcare scammers fleece consumers There’s no such thing as Trumpcare. But an investigation by ProPublica reveals that thousands of Americans are getting scammed by online marketers selling junk health insurance plans using that name. Facebook and Google have run tens of thousands of ads in the past year containing false claims about health insurance reform and plans. The ads have been viewed some twenty two million times in that time, mostly in battleground states like Texas, Florida, and Ohio. Google even gave the misinformation prime real estate, with the ads as the top-listed results when people search for affordable health insurance. When people respond to the ads, they become sales leads. Then they get deluged with phone calls from brokers. The Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, requires most health insurance plans to provide minimal essential coverage, which includes preventive care, mental health care, maternity and more. The unconventional plans sold as Trumpcare are exempted from those requirements, but their weaknesses aren’t made clear to consumers. Far from it. Agents on commission often lie, saying Trumpcare is the new Obamacare. State regulators who spoke to ProPublica say catching scam brokers is like playing whack-a- mole, as those caught using abusive marketing tactics can simply incorporate under a new name and start all over again. Frank Pyle, director of market conduct enforcement for the Delaware Department of Insurance, told ProPublica that harsher penalties might put an end to the scams. Pyle said QUOTE You can fine these companies and they consider it the cost of doing business. But if you lock up their CEO in federal prison, they’ll think twice about harming our consumers. ENDQUOTE. A single-payer system would also solve the problem. Trump campaign bleeding cash A new review of Donald Trump’s election expenditures shows that by overspending in the early stages of the race, the campaign has weakened its position in the final stretch. The campaign has raised well over $1 billion since Trump took the White House in 2017 — and, as the Associated Press put it, set a lot of that money on fire. Among the examples of Trumpian profligacy flagged by the news agency: Trump bought a $10 million Super Bowl ad when he didn’t yet have a challenger. He tapped his political organization to cover exorbitant legal fees related to his impeachment. Aides made flashy displays of their newfound wealth — including a fleet of luxury vehicles purchased by Brad Parscale, his former campaign manager. Mike Murphy, a veteran Republican consultant, said the campaign spent its money on lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous activity by the campaign staff, and vanity ads that ran way too early. He added QUOTE You could literally have ten monkeys with flamethrowers go after the money, and they wouldn’t have burned through it as stupidly ENDQUOTE. Other moronic expenditures by Trump and the RNC include: — Nearly $100,000 spent on copies of Donald Trump Junior’s book “Triggered.” — Over $7.4 million spent at Trump-branded properties. — At least $35.2 million spent on Trump merchandise. — At least $14.1 million spent on the Republican National Convention, which was mostly online. — $1.6 million on TV ads in the Washington, DC, media market, an overwhelmingly Democratic area that Trump can’t win. But, of course, it’s where Trump himself watches the tube. Hey, whatever keeps the boss happy... AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: Politico reports that Joe Biden’s transition team is vetting a handful of Republicans for potential Cabinet positions. The names being floated include former Ohio Governor John Kasich, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, and Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay and now CEO of Quibi. It’s not great news for progressives, but maybe the vetting process will sort out once and for all the question: What on earth is Quibi? A Miami police officer was photographed at a voting site wearing a “Trump 2020” mask yesterday. Steve Simeonidis, the chairman of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, took the photo of Miami police department officer Daniel Ubeda and posted it online, calling it QUOTE city funded voter intimidation ENDQUOTE. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Ubeda’s superiors were quick to call the political display unacceptable and a violation of department policy. Of course, they declined to say exactly how he’d be disciplined. Death from drug overdoses are up and may reach an all-time high this year, the AP reports. Addiction experts blame the pandemic, which has left people stressed and isolated, disrupted treatment and recovery programs, and contributed to an increasingly dangerous illicit drug supply. Please remember, friends, we’re all in this together. Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, is under a twenty four-hour curfew after large crowds attacked two prisons and freed some two thousand inmates. Protests began two weeks ago after a video circulated showing a man being beaten by police. The AP reports that protesters are demanding an end to abuses and respect for human rights in all parts of the police force. Is it really too much to ask? Apparently so. Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: Bad news for the global ecosystem that keeps us all alive: the Greenland ice sheet is melting faster than ever. Record tons of fresh meltwater are diluting the seas. Meanwhile, Joe Biden accepted the Democratic Party nomination to the presidency last night. His campaign tried to set expectations that he would reassure more than inspire. And lastly, Steve Bannon, the strategist behind Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, was arrested yesterday on fraud charges. Could Don Junior be next? THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: Record melting in Greenland A study published yesterday says the Greenland ice sheet lost a record amount of mass last year, all due to climate change. The ice melted at an astonishing rate of a million tons per minute, for a total of five-hundred and thirty-two billion tons. Greenland’s fast-melting ice sheet is reportedly the largest single contributor to sea level rise. The study was published in the journal Nature Communications: Earth and Environment. Researchers based their estimates on data from advanced satellites belonging to NASA. Because the meltwater is freshwater, it dilutes the surrounding seawater, which has an additional effect on global weather patterns. For example, there are two simultaneous tropical cyclones forecast to hit the Gulf of Mexico next week. The record ice loss amounts to more than one-hundred and forty trillion gallons of water. It’s more than double the average annual ice loss recorded by the NASA satellites since 2003. And it added more than half an inch to global sea levels – a shocking amount for the seas to rise in a single year. Before global warming began to spiral out of control, there were some years in the last century when the Greenland sheet actually gained ice. No more. The preceding two years before the study period were unusually cold in Greenland, but even then, the sheet still lost ice. Researchers told the Guardian that cold years no longer compensate for hot ones in terms of ice loss, as was the pattern in the past. Among other things, the research means the ice sheet has grown unstable. And without a major drop in carbon emissions, coastal cities will be in greater danger than ever. Biden accepts Democratic nomination The fourth and final night of the virtual Democratic National Convention concluded with the nomination of Joe Biden to the party’s presidential ticket. Prior to the night’s speeches, Vermont Senator and former candidate Bernie Sanders told PBS Newshour that he believed Biden understood what needed to be done in regards to climate change, public health, the economic crisis and mass evictions. Sanders said QUOTE He’s going to face an American people who are hurting today. He’s going to face young people [who] want action ENDQUOTE. Later, in a taped endorsement, Sanders said Biden would keep his word and listen to others’ views. Former candidates Pete Buttigieg and Mike Bloomberg also spoke last night. As it has for much of the week, the prepared programming focused on Biden’s family story. Videos filled with testimonials cast him as a familiar and reassuring figure – as well as a hard worker, in contrast to Donald Trump. Biden’s daughter Ashley and embattled son Hunter vouched for their dad in a prerecorded video, before Biden the elder took his turn on stage at Chase Center in Delaware. Biden said Trump has QUOTE cloaked America in darkness for too long ENDQUOTE. He said his first step as president would be to get the coronavirus under control, in part, with a national mandate to wear a mask. Biden called attention to the recent third anniversary of the Charlottesville, Virginia neo-Nazi rally, and said QUOTE at that moment I knew I had to run... Silence was complicity... In this dark moment, I believe we’re poised to make great progress again, that we can find the light once more ENDQUOTE. Bannon arrested over fraud Donald Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon was arrested yesterday by US Postal Inspectors aboard a one-hundred and fifty million-dollar yacht off the coast of Connecticut. The charges? Mail fraud. The US Coast Guard assisted USPS officers with Bannon’s arrest at sea, where he has been for several weeks. During his arraignment in New York, Bannon pleaded not guilty. His bail was reportedly set at one point seven-five million dollars in cash or property, and his bond conditions ban him from travel on private airplanes or boats. Per the New York Times The yacht Bannon had been living on belonged to an exiled Chinese businessman. According to a federal indictment, Bannon conspired with three other men, also charged, to defraud donors of a GoFundMe campaign called We Build The Wall. The money was supposed to be used to build a section of Trump’s promised wall on the Mexico border. Instead, Bannon used the money for at least one million dollars worth of personal expenses. Those included, in addition to a Range Rover, a small pleasure boat named Warfighter. Bannon, who formerly ran Breitbart News, is the third person who led Trump’s 2016 campaign to face criminal charges. Trump’s son Don Junior promoted Bannon’s fraudulent GoFundMe campaign, calling it, as the Times reported, QUOTE private enterprise at its finest ENDQUOTE. Hear hear! The Trump Organization attempted to distance Don Junior from Bannon’s scheme in a statement yesterday. Trump himself, asked about Bannon’s arrest, at first said he knew nothing of Bannon’s fundraising effort. Then he said he didn’t like the project, calling it inappropriate. Apparently Trump didn’t know about Bannon’s arrest ahead of time. Sad. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: A study published yesterday in the Journal of Pediatrics suggests children play a larger role in spreading the coronavirus than was previously understood. Researchers found that some children have high levels of the virus in their airways during the early days of infection, though they may show no symptoms. One of the authors, Alessio Fasano, told the Washington Post that children may be as susceptible as adults to the coronavirus, but not as visibly so. Another reason not to rush back to in-person classes this fall! Another one point one million workers filed for unemployement last week, according to the latest numbers from the US Labor Department. On top of that, more than half a million freelancers and part-time workers filed for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. Last week’s new unemployment numbers were slightly better, but this week shows that ain’t so. How arepeople supposed to survive during a pandemic with a few hundred dollars in state benefits and little hope for finding work? As Steve Bannon proved, GoFundMe is no solution. A federal judge yesterday threw out a lawsuit from Donald Trump that sought to deny a subpoena for his tax records. The decision by US District Judge Victor Marrero follows a Supreme Court ruling last month that found Trump is not immune from criminal investigation during his tenure as president. It’s now more likely than ever that Trump will actually be forced to deliver some eight years of tax records to Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Junior, who is investigating Trump’s hush money payments as well as possible bank fraud. At least two people have died so far in California’s all-out firefighting effort. Fires in the northern and central parts of the state continued to spread, merge, and grow yesterday, consuming three-hundred and fifty thousand acres at last count. Homes on the edge of San Jose were evacuated. People in areas where the air is full of smoke and ash are advised to stay indoors – and definitely don’t go outside to exercise. Firefighters say they are having better luck when the winds die down at night. Hang tight out there, folks. That’s all for the AM Quickie. Join us this afternoon on the Majority Report. Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: Armed supporters of Donald Trump force the suspension of democracy in Michigan. Trump and his cronies warn that Pennsylvania could be next if the governor doesn’t go along with Trump’s plan to reopen the country, pandemic be damned. Meanwhile, Trump’s international hotel business enlisted government security forces in Indonesia to intimidate villagers who opposed his new golf resort there. Then Trump went ahead and dug up their community graveyard without permission – just a very classy move. And lastly, as global health experts warn the US is setting itself up for an even more deadly second wave of the coronavirus, there’s another country that is getting rave reviews. People in Vietnam are pulling together to offer their own organs to save the life of a foreigner on life support who they fear could become the country’s first recorded COVID-19 death. THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: The terrorists won in Michigan. At least for now. Two weeks ago dozens of armed Trump supporters swarmed the state capitol in Lansing in support of the Republican campaign to force people back to work despite the ongoing pandemic. Yesterday, legislators abruptly canceled their session for fear of more armed incursions by Trumpists wearing masks and fatigues and carrying rifles. News reports and investigations by civil rights groups have confirmed that the ranks of these thugs include white supremacists who advocate lynchings and civil war. They outfit themselves in the fashion of paramilitary death squads. But they also play to the cameras. Yesterday in Lansing, one of the people carrying an AR- pattern rifle also wore a big yellow inflatable Pikachu costume. But the sideshow element distracts from the fact that Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer and lawmakers were receiving credible death threats. Organizers of yesterday’s successful fascist rally to shut down democracy called their event Judgment Day. Since the last rally, Michigan Democrats spent their time debating whether and how to ban firearms on the capitol grounds. It seems they moved too slowly. With Michigan thoroughly intimidated, Republicans began turning their attention to Pennsylvania. Donald Trump held a rally at an Eastern Pennsylvania factory yesterday to pressure the Democratic governor, Tom Wolf, to reopen. He also teased the audience for standing six feet apart and said it was time for that to end. Don Junior published a column in Breitbart attacking Wolf, and Tea Party USA president Charlie Kirk called Wolf a tyrant like Michigan Governor Whitmer and said both needed to be stopped. At another reopen on New York’s Long Island, Trump supporters threatened and chased a local TV news reporter. While denying its danger, Republicans are using the pandemic to wage a widespread and coordinated assault on democracy. Don’t expect things to get calmer by November. Trump Desecrates Muslim Graves When it comes to Trump, there is corruption and there is sacriliege. There is corruption, like Trump’s companies getting paid at least nine-hundred and seventy thousand dollars from the US Treasury, since he took office, for renting his properties to government personnel. That figure was in the Washington Post yesterday. There is sacrilege, like how yesterday in Pennsylvania he said the sight of doctors and nurses rushing to their own deaths in hospitals overflowing with COVID cases was, as he put it, beautiful. And sometimes you get both! Corruption and sacrilege in one deal. The Post also reported that Trump’s big resort project in Indonesia tore apart a Muslim burial ground without informing or compensating families whose relatives were buried there. It’s unclear whether the excavation for Trump’s hotel and golf course in West Java was even legal. The local contractor claims it was. It doesn’t hurt their case that the construction crews were backed by state security forces. Apparently they were afraid of poor and unarmed villagers opposed to the desecration of their family grave plots. One woman who spoke to a reporter had two daughters buried at the site. She said, QUOTE Who did they think my children were — dogs? ENDQUOTE. We’re talking about the Trumps? The answer is quite possibly yes. Vietnam's Pandemic Response Praised The country of Vietnam is reportedly pulling out all the stops to prevent its first recorded coronavirus fatality. Skepticism in the official figures are warranted, as it is anywhere in the world. But even the financial news service Reuters, along with other international news media with a presence on the ground in Vietnam, said the story is not off base and the country’s response has been miles ahead of most of the world. And this assessment was backed up by independent international human rights groups, health officials, and diplomats quoted in their reports. Here’s how Reuters summed it up: Through aggressive testing and a mass, centralised quarantine programme, the Southeast Asian country has kept its tally of coronavirus cases to just 288 and has reported no deaths. Australia’s public broadcaster agreed that coordinated and quick government action was key to Vietnam’s success and said QUOTE most experts believe Vietnamese authorities are being honest about coronavirus statistics ENDQUOTE. As of yesterday ten people had volunteered to donate a lung to the one coronavirus patient who was reportedly on the brink of death. The sick man is known only as Patient 91. He is a foreigner: a forty-three year-old British citizen who apparently caught coronavirus at a bar in the financial district of Ho Chi Min City. Patient 91 is a pilot who works for the national airline. One of the people who volunteered his lung was a seventy-year-old veteran of the communist People's Army of Vietnam. (Doctors turned him down.) The government has spent $200,000 to keep this man alive for more than thirty days on life support. The well-being of this foreigner, from a one-time imperial power, is now a matter of national pride in Vietnam. It’s a story to remember as Americans hear more and more from their own government how their utter failure to contain this disease is all the fault of some wicked regimes over in Asia. Last night the lead World Health Organization doctor on COVID-19 told CNN that the some country’s are better-prepared than others for the virus’s second wave, and the US is reopening too quickly. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: A new Columbia University study covered by the Los Angeles Times predicts a forty-five percent increase in homelessness this year in the US. Going by the federal figures, that would mean at least a quarter million more Americans will be living on the streets by the end of the year. The professor who led the study called the economic situation unprecedented, noting that no one living had seen double-digit increases to unemployment in a single month. Interesting times indeed. A couple of wins for the titans of industry: Despite a court order, Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency has decided not to impose any limits on a toxic chemical called per- chlorate that is linked to brain damage in fetuses and infants. And California’s Public Utility Commission voted unanimously to waive a $200 million fine against PG&E for negligence causing catastrophic wildfires. The decision overruled a judge’s finding agains the company. The state could use that money. Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday announced more than $6 billion in budget cuts including ten-percent salary cuts for state workers. Politico reports Congressional Democrats are backing out on a student loan forgiveness plan that was until recently included in a $3 trillion coronavirus relief package of legislation. House leadership was reportedly concerned about the cost of the plan, which grew markedly in a Congressional Budget Office estimate that was released just as the bill was being finalized. Democrats’ own amendments will cut the number of borrowers eligible for relief by half. The White House last night was threatening to veto the bill anyway. Richard Burr of North Carolina yesterday stepped down as chairman of the powerful Senate Intelligence Committee, one day after the FBI seized his cell phone in an investigation into his stock trades following a coronavirus briefing. Federal investigators are also investigating Senators James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, and Dianne Feinstein of California. Feinstein is the only Democrat. Burr’s loss of leadership on the committee is reportedly temporary, but, of course, that all depends what Attorney General Bill Barr decides to do with the case. That’s all for the AM Quickie. Mueller Wears No Clothes. No Collusion, No Conspiracy. In spite of MSM propaganda to the contrary, Mueller is falling flat, not getting what he's wanted. Dan Bongino describes the Mueller investigation as a "steaming pile of horse" hockey. Aaron Mate, writing for the left-wing The Nation, advises Democrats to cheer down about Russiagate, because "new bombshells might not be that explosive." CNN's Jake Tapper admits much the same. President Trump is seeking to block publication of an explosive "kiss and tell" book based on interviews with former White House advisor Steve Bannon. The book is Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. The author is Michael Wolff. The publisher is Henry Holt and Company. President Trump's lawyer sent a legal notice to Mr. Wolff demanding that publisher Henry Holt and Company "immediately cease and desist from any further publication, release or dissemination" of material from the book. London's Guardian newspaper published excerpts from the book on Wednesday. In the book, Steve Bannon described a Trump Tower meeting in 2016 between Don Trump Jr. and a group of Russians as treasonous and unpatriotic. Mr. Bannon told author Michael Wolff that the Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigator are "going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV." The accusation of treason rocked the Trump base of supporters across America and produced a firestorm of criticism of Steve Bannon among conservative supporters of the President. Mr. Bannon was chief executive of the Trump campaign in the final three months of the 2016 campaign. He served seven months in the Trump White House as the President's Chief Strategist. He was ousted in a power struggle with Jared and Ivanka Kushner, the President's son-in-law and daughter. In the book, Mr. Bannon refers to Jared and Ivanka as Javanka. According to author Michael Wolff, Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is quoted as saying that the White House turmoil during President Trump's first year in office is "a war between Jews and the non-Jews." Author Michael Wolff is no stranger to controversy. Leftist magazine New Republic described him in 2004 as a "New York creation, fixated on culture, style, buzz, and money, money, money." Mr. Wolff built his literary career writing about rich and powerful people such as disgraced Hollywood sexual attacker Harvey Weinstein, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Mr. Wolff published his first magazine article in 1974. The New York Times published his profile of Angela Atwood, a friend of Mr. Wolff's family. Ms. Atwood was a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army, a violent left-wing revolutionary group. Ms. Atwood participated in the Symbionese Liberation Army's 1973 kidnapping of Patricia Hearst, granddaughter of American publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst.

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from January 3rd, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1: Cenk & John. Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has described the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as “treasonous” and “unpatriotic”, according to an explosive new book seen by the Guardian. Bannon, speaking to author Michael Wolff, warned that the investigation into alleged collusion with the Kremlin will focus on money laundering and predicted: “They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.” Trump tweets response to Steve Bannon. *Cenk predicts Jared Kushner flipping on Trump* Hour 2: On Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Trump’s time on the links when asked by Yahoo News reporter Hunter Walker what his biggest accomplishment there has been. “I think it would certainly be developing deeper and better relationships with members of Congress in which those relationships have helped push forward the president’s agenda ― specifically when it comes to helping get the tax reform and tax cuts passed,” Sanders said, adding, “He has played golf with a number of senators and used that time certainly to accomplish that.” Researchers from Dartmouth College, Princeton University, and the University of Exeter found that around one in four Americans visited a fake news website in the weeks before and after the 2016 election. The study notes that this consumption of fake news was “heavily concentrated among a small group”—almost six in ten visits to fake news websites came from just 10% of Americans, and that those visitors were deeply pro-Trump.
