With a cast of over 800, and a budget equivalent to £3 million, James Shirley's extravagant masque ‘The Triumph of Peace' was performed on 3rd February, 1634. Unusually, it was such a popular show that, despite the enormous cost of staging it, King Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria requested that it be repeated. Though replete with all the arse-kissing allegorical tableaux that typified these celebrations of the monarchy - and requisite set designs by Inigo Jones - this spectacular was also markedly different from its predecessors in that it was especially designed to appease Henrietta, who had been slurred by polemicist William Prynne.    In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly come to terms with the ‘17th century immersive theatre' experience; explain why legendary playwright Ben Jonson WASN'T involved in this one; and reveal how a masque was once responsible for the destruction of Shakespeare's Globe…  Further Reading: • ‘Masque and music at the Stuart court' (Royal Museums Greenwich): https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/masque-music-stuart-court • ‘Inigo Jones designs for masque costumes' (The British Library): https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/inigo-jones-designs-for-masque-costumes •  ‘The History of the British Masque' (Heidi Kobara, 2013): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G22UED2yJ_Q Love the show? Florida received some snow over the previous weekend, causing the Internet to erupt in conspiracy chants of climate change or weather modification. It never snows in Florida, most assume, despite a documented history dating back 200 years of occasional snow in the northern parts of the state. The same conspiracy hysteria erupted in 2024 too, including the idea that snow wasn't even real. Despite it having melted 12 months ago, the new snow, and a few flurries in Florida, is being called fake. As is the fog, ice, and even cold weather in general. In fact, some believe the cold weather itself is a conspiracy to freeze a giant monster in the ocean. This is all despite December, January, and February being the month of Old Man Winter, who has been beaten and buried with no memory or remorse. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Work On Your Game: Discipline, Confidence & Mental Toughness For Sports, Business & Life | Mental Health & Mindset

I break down why I believe there's no such thing as the “right side of history.” People use this phrase to avoid real debate and to make themselves look morally superior instead of defending their ideas. History isn't objective or moral, it's written by whoever survives and controls the story. Instead of outsourcing judgment to the future, I believe we should own our positions and argue them clearly right now. This is about thinking for yourself instead of hiding behind a slogan. Show Notes: [03:16]#1 History is written after outcomes have been decided. [05:14]#2 Social control.  [10:58]#3 Responsibility exists only in the present, never in the future.  [13:37] Recap Next Steps: --- Power Presence is not taught. It is enforced. If you are operating in environments where hesitation costs money, authority, or leverage, the Power Presence Mastermind exists as a controlled setting for discipline, execution, and consequence-based decision-making. Most Americans are aware of Colombia's role in the international drug trade, but we know less about the role that Americans' played in the story as consumers, smuggling pioneers, and practitioners of a foreign policy that facilitated the rise of Colombian drug production.   In this episode, journalist and historian Lina Britto shares the fascinating story of how Colombia emerged as a major supplier of drugs to American consumers and how this relationship affected people in both countries. She also explains the origins of the "War on Drugs" in the US and tells the story of how Americans hippies in search of marijuana laid the groundwork for the distribution techniques later used by Pablo Escobar's cocaine cartel.   Dr. Lina Britto is Associate Professor of History at Northwestern University where she specializes in Colombian history and the history of the international drug trade. She is the author of Marijuana Boom: The Rise and Fall of Colombia's First Drug Paradise (University of California Press, 2020)   This is a rebroadcast of RTN #318, which originally aired on November 4, 2024. Are you currently debating whether to "Buy Term and Invest the Difference" or build a private banking system with Whole Life?In this episode, David Befort and Paul Fugere put the most popular financial advice—including Dave Ramsey's top talking points—through the IBC Stress Test. If you've been told that Whole Life is a "scam" or that you should only ever buy Term, you are likely missing the most critical piece of the puzzle: The Difference Between Renting and Owning. Why you need to listen to this episode: Most people are taught to treat insurance as a "sunk cost" or a necessary evil. But what if your premium wasn't a cost, but a transfer of assets? We dive deep into why "renting" your protection through Term insurance often leads to a dead end, with ~98% of policies never actually paying out a death benefit. In this episode, we break down:The "Renting" Trap: Why Term insurance is designed to expire just when you need it most, and why "investing the difference" often fails in the real world. The Ernst & Young Reality Check: We discuss the landmark study that shows "Buy Term and Invest the Difference" (BTID) consistently finishes dead last when it comes to retirement spending and legacy. The "Both/And" Strategy: How to use Convertible Term as a bridge to a high-performance IBC policy, allowing you to stop the "leakage" of your wealth and start the process of uninterrupted compounding.Debunking the "Company Keeps Your Cash" Myth: We clarify exactly how your cash value and death benefit work together so you can stop being afraid of the "living benefits" of your policy.Whether you are a "Dave Ramsey person" looking for a second opinion or an investor searching for a way to maximize your Human Life Value, this episode will show you how to stop wasting money on temporary fixes and start building a permanent financial foundation.Stop being a tenant in your own financial life. Visit Osprey publishing to see their incredible catalogue of military history books - https://www.ospreypublishing.com Britain has a Royal Navy. A Royal Air Force. And yet… a British Army. Not a Royal Army. Why? If you've ever tried to find a clear answer, you'll know how unsatisfying the usual explanations are. Tradition. Regiments. Legal technicalities. All true - and all incomplete. The full reason lies far deeper, in a violent and deeply uncomfortable chapter of British history. To find it, you have to rewind nearly four hundred years, to the English Civil War - a moment when England experimented with something new, dangerous, and unprecedented. This episode follows that experiment as it spirals out of control: the first redcoats, armies choosing sides, kings losing authority, and politicians learning lessons the hard way. My main sources for this video were: Lord Carver, The Seven Ages of the British Army (London, 1984) Fortescue, A History of the British Army Vol. 1, (London, 1899) The Army and the Restoration of 1660 by Godfrey Davis (Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research, Vol 32, No. 129)

In this Jewish Inspiration Podcast episode (Day 120), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues the Gate of Falsehood (Sheker) from Orchos Tzaddikim, exploring the second type of lie: the "white lie" or seemingly harmless falsehood (e.g., exaggeration for story enhancement, inconsequential fibs). Even when no one is hurt and no gain is sought, such lies are forbidden—because they stem from a desire to curry favor, build trust falsely, lower someone's guard, or gain advantage through deception. The rabbi cites King Solomon: a lying tongue is an abomination to kings—true leaders despise falsehood. The wise person weighs every statement carefully, rejecting even "small" lies that distort reality or make falsehood appear true. Sophisticated rationalizations often justify lies, but purging bad traits (arrogance, laziness, etc.) allows pure truth to emerge. The chapter stresses: falsehood distances one from Hashem (who is Emet/truth), harms others indirectly (steals dignity, causes pain/discord), and collapses over time (sheker has one leg; emet stands on two). The episode ends with a preview of the next types of falsehood (e.g., denying deposits, false testimony) and their double punishment.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on July 8, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on February 2, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at aw@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. Reed shows how land is not simply territory, language is not merely words, and women are not peripheral to history, but are instead central to cultural survival and meaning. Our conversation moves between history, storytelling, gender, and Indigenous knowledge systems, asking what it really means to belong to a place—and what is lost when those relationships are broken. This is a conversation about memory, resistance, responsibility, and the enduring power of women to carry culture forward.About our guest:Julie L.
