Send us a textWouldn't it be nice if postpartum recovery was included in the NHS services, as they should be? Rather than NHS GPs making Instagram commercials for private, and expensive, postpartum recovery programs we should ALWAYS be pushing for FREE access for women. The Americanisation of British healthcare is a real problem and, the truth is, we would not accept this if this was happening for anything other than postpartum recovery?Imagine NHS GPs advertising for people to get cataract treatment private. Or saying that "loads of people come to me with a broken leg so I tell them to buy X-program"!It is outrageous that an essential service is being outsourced and that many women are being priced out of access. So that's what I spend the first 15 or so minutes talking about, then I move on to "pelvic floor or diastasis recti?".One of my PT colleagues, who is also a client, asked why online recovery programs now seemed to focus much more on pelvic floor in their advertising than they do on diastasis recti? What is the reason behind this change? Have the programs changed??As always; HPNB is, and always will be, FREE for 3 months. If you decide you want to do the rest of the program, after only 5 months of paying $10/£8 a month you now get FREE LIFE TIME ACCESS! That's $50 max spend, in case you were wondering. Though I'm not terribly active on Instagram and Facebook you can follow us there. I am however active on Threads so find me there! I was once a craft beer evangelist. I believed it was the future, and the past was dead in the water. That past, to me, was over a century of British brewing tradition: bitter, mild, porter. I was ready for the global Americanisation of beer culture—double dry hopped everything. But I was wrong, and eventually I realised that. Craft beer was not new, not a revolution, not the sea change of an entire culture I, for some reason, longed for, just the continuation of a thing that already existed: beer. I have realised there are much more important things within beer culture than craft beer: independent beer, well made beer, ethical beer, beer that gives a shit, delicious beer. All of this is more important than ever trying to define it, and always will be. In this, the last of our podcasts to be recorded at IndyManBeerCon 2023, I speak with some fellow beer industry lifers about craft beer, and what it means for us now. With huge thanks to our guests: Cath Potter of CAMRA, Lauren Soderberg then of Port Street Beer House and now of Deya Brewery, and James Campbell of Sureshot Brewery. Please enjoy this conversation as we try to untangle “craft beer” and then let us never speak of it again. Good beer will always be there for us, and perhaps it doesn't need to be anything more than that. We're able to produce The Pellicle Podcast directly thanks to our Patreon subscribers, and our sponsors Loughran Brewers Select. Jacques talks about the ways that Australia continues to drop the ball on international justice, while defaulting to the (US) 'might is right' principle, and thus gradually losing its moral standing in the eyes of the rest of the world. It is a shameful contrast to our history of supporting international rules that all are expected to abide by, and forums of justice where errant nations are called to account. And we continue to cede the non-ceded Aboriginal lands to growing establishments of American weaponry and military bases.Jonathan Cook (https://substack.com/@jonathancook) ‘Nothing's changed since 1948 – except now Israel's excuses don't work'Mick Hall in Consortium News (https://mickhall.substack.com/p/change-on-way-abc-reviews-icj-ruling?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=1996583&post_id=147507114&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=1sqhym&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email)Eugene Doyle solidarity.co.nz. With the death of JFK, Lyndon B. Johnson took over the Presidency and immediately had to wrestle with America's relationship with Vietnam after the killing of Diem. Right from the start he prophesised that it would be his downfall and so it was. He consistently resented it and the distraction it was from his domestic agenda, the Great Society. Over his five years in charge, LBJ Americanised the war, committing more and more troops to Vietnam, and initiating massive bombing campaigns known as Operation Rolling Thunder, putting America into a quagmire. But was this inevitable? Would JFK have done things differently? Listen as William and Anita are once again joined by Fredrik Logevall to find out. After ascending the heights of Notre Dame, film journalist Ben Travis and animation academic Sam Summers are blasting back to Ancient Greece for an anachronism-heavy superhero-deity mash-up: 1997's Hercules. And – ding ding ding! – it's the first film in Disniversity history that finds our duo with wildly differing opinions… Strap in for a spicy trip to Mount Olympus and back, exploring the way Disney conflates Hercules with the Superman myth, its then-contemporary explorations of fame and sporting celebrity, its distinctive visual identity, the push-and-pull of idealism vs cynicism, and the film's Americanisation of the unhinged original Greek stories. Plus, delve into Sam's deep love of extraneous lore, Ben's formative pantomime-based memory – and pray a decade-plus friendship isn't broken along the way. Warning: contains wild tales of milk, murder, and melting potions. Caleb just Back ended another 4 years in purple for an extra Nickel! We'll get off the cricket couch for an hour and Restump Podcast all the Christmas / New Year Freo news. There was little to no fear that Caleb Serong would be wearing anything but purple in the foreseeable future but having him lock in on Christmas Day for a further 4 years just made the season a little more festive.Tommy Sheridan had Griff Logue and Darcy Tucker on his podcast and the former Freo folk gave us a little bit of an insight into their departures. Were Darcy Tucker's interesting comments a little Lobb like? Or have we read too much into them? Club captaincy remains the topic of Chinese whispers. Will Nat Fyfe step down or retain the honour? Does Andy Brayshaw take on the responsibility now or after Alex Pearce wears the crown? Have the Freo girls got a Head coach yet? Does anyone know who may be a Rough chance? We check in on Bob and see what he's up to.Jojo is disgracefully campaigning for the Americanisation of our sport wanting the AFL to promote the initiative where players roll into the ground in all types of preposterous gear! Feel free to let him know your thoughts. Overdosing on cricket and looking for a change may well explain the reasons we're talking Freo footy in January. Or we're just overly eager and can't wait for the season to return. Whatever the case, if you're starved of some purple noise, feel free to bung this nonsense in your ears. THIS SHOW IS A SELECTION OF BRAZILIAN POPULAR MUSIC FROM 1964 TO 1973. A DECADE OF GREAT MUSIC IN A BACKGROUND OF POLITICAL TURMOIL AND WORLDWIDE FOOTBALL SUCCESS. The name for the show is taken from one of the most famous songs by Marcos Valle. This is “Paz e Futebol”. I replaced Paz (peace) for Música as this is the subject matter of the show. Peace was not a description of those years as the 10 years covered in the show were a time of intense internal social and political conflict in Brazil. Bossa Nova (New Wave), the Brazilian homegrown jazz version, was the music style that many young musicians followed and developed during these 10 years from 1964 to 1973. At the same time, foreign pop and rock infiltrated the music of some of these young musicians. This was not well accepted by everybody in Brazil. It was a time of division between the MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and the Jovem Guarda. The latter was a music movement influenced by the American Rock & Roll and followers of Elvis Presley and Little Richard. Roberto Carlos and Tim Maia were some of the musicians that embraced the electrification of music to the chagrin of the most nationalistic and, at the same time, left-leaning musicians of the MPB that oppose the Americanisation of the Brazilian music. Then in the late sixties, the Tropicalistas (a hippie and psychedelic sixties movement in the Brazilian music) established a link between these two groups even though in a more avant-garde and dadaist outcome. MPB and Tropicalistas were both inspired by Samba and Bossa Nova's greatest artists and composers such as Tom Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Baden Powell and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes. In these ten years emerged an outstanding generation of talented musicians and performers. The list is immense. I highlight among them: Marcos Valle, Milton Nascimiento, Sergio Mendes, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben Gal Costa, Arthur Verocai, Gilberto Gil, Tom Ze, Alceu Valença, Astrud Gilberto, Joyce, Edu Lobo Elza Soares, Tim Maia, Naná Vasconcelos, Eumir Deodato, Wilson Simonal, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Maria Bethania, MPB4, Os Novos Baianos and Os Mutantes. I can continue putting more names and I will still miss some of these great Brazilian artists of the 10-year-golden period. Only I hope this selection opens the curiosity for the extraordinary music of Brazil. One of the most musical countries in the world which have attracted music fans all over the world since the days of Bossa Nova. The draft script of the planned movie on the March 15 mosque attacks has been called a Hollywood rewrite of New Zealand history.A copy of the draft script - which centres on Jacinda Ardern and includes a graphic reconstruction of the deadly terrorist attacks on two Christchurch mosques - was leaked to Newshub. The draft script included 15 deaths and more woundings across 17 pages.Newshub asked lawyer Linda Clark to look at the political reaction to March 15 included in excerpts from 10 pages of the script."They're writing a version of New Zealand history, but they're writing it with an American sensibility," Clark said.Jacinda Ardern was represented as a "slender figure". On the night after the attacks as she gets out of her bed "dressed in a slip" and looking out the window where she "breaks down" and "sobs alone".While Ardern is portrayed as politically strong, the script implies she needs reassurance from partner Clarke Gayford and then deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters, Newshub reported."Has there ever been a day like today?" Ardern asks Peters in the script. In te reo Māori, he says: "He kotuku reranga tahi," which is subtitled as "the white heron only flies once".Clark told Newshub the script's portrayal of Ardern was "emotional, objectifying and pretty sexist"."[The draft script] is written as if an American wrote it, for an American audience, with no understanding of how New Zealand looks at these issues and how our politicians behave."Peters called his part of the script "total nonsense" while Simon Bridges, also featured in the script, calling it "misleading" and "offensive"."Hollywood has had some great movies based on history, but sadly this won't be one of them," Peters told Newshub. He said this was too serious of an issue for some "cheap Hollywood script" to try to make money out of."I suggest they withdraw from the scene if they don't intend to be honest here."In the script, Bridges' character is opposed to Ardern's gun law reforms and is quoted as saying: "come for our guns, you might get bullets". However, he supported the law change in real life."This is a misleading and dishonest Americanisation of what happened in our country," he told Newshub. In place of David Seymour, the script includes a character named "Solomon Marsh", also against Ardern's gun law changes.New Zealand-born Andrew Niccol wrote the film script and Newshub sent questions to his agent, but is yet to receive a response.Earlier, Newshub showed parts of the leaked script to three families who lost loved ones on March 15.Ambreen Naeem - whose husband Naeem and son Talha were killed in the attacks - said the script was unethical, totally immoral and unacceptable."It's quite distressing and retraumatising," Ambreen told Newshub.Maha Elmadani, who lost her father Ali in the attack, said she couldn't see how a movie based on the draft script she saw excerpts of was any different from the livestream.Salwa Mohamad, whose husband Khaled and son Hamza were murdered at Al Noor Mosque, said it was worse.

BEHIND THE SCENES with football financier/deal-maker Laurie Pinto. Laurie advises prospective owners when they look to buy Premier League clubs. In recent months we have seen Burnley and Newcastle enter takeover talks. In this podcast, Laurie and I analysed various owners from FSG to Mike Ashley and from the Kroenke's to Roman Abramovich. Why Laurie predicts that 1/3 Prem teams will have new owners by next season? We debated profit maximisation (making money) vs win maximisation (winning games) and the direction of the future of football (we are both two disgruntled Arsenal fans). THIS IS THE SEASON FINALE. Born in Russia, in 1911, at four, she was accepted as the youngest ever violin student at the St. Petersburg Imperial Conservatory. As conditions deteriorated after the Revolution, the Reisenberg family left Russia and travelled across Europe for several years until 1921 when they succeeded in gaining passage on a steamship bound for America. In New York, Clara resumed her studies with Leopold Auer, but shortly before she was to make her American debut (playing the Beethoven Concerto), she developed an arthritic problem with her bow arm, and had to give up the violin.Fortunately, she had met Leon Theremin (an Americanisation of Lev Termen, as he was known in Russia), the inventor of the world's first electronic instrument. “I was fascinated by the aesthetic part of it, the visual beauty, the idea of playing in the air,” Clara recalled, “and I loved the sound. I tried it, and apparently showed some kind of immediate ability to manipulate it. Soon Lev Sergeyevich gave me, for a present, the RCA model theremin.”She convinced Leon Theremin to build her a far more precise and responsive instrument than the RCA model, one with a five-octave range, instead of three. Over the years she performed extensively but it was not until 1977 that she saw the release of her first commercial LP, performances with Nadia Reisenberg (recorded by Robert Moog) titled ‘The Art Of The Theremin'.In 1989, Steve M. Martin, long fascinated by the instrument, embarked upon the documentary Theremin - An Electronic Odyssey, a film including some of Clara's last public performances (videotaped at a 1989 Nadia Reisenberg tribute concert in Merkin Hall), and the New York reunion of Clara and Leon Theremin (then aged 95). Premiered in New York at Alice Tully Hall, the film in large measure revitalised interest in both the theremin itself and Clara Rockmore's unique accomplishments. She died in 1998.Cyril Lance BiogCyril Lance is the Chief Technical Officer at Moog Music and lead designer of the Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin. Cyril first met Bob Moog in January 2005 during an informal visit to Moog factory. When Bob was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2005, Cyril was asked to come up and take over the engineering effort. Since then, Cyril has been at the helm of engineering and product development and, along with the dedicated and passionate team at Moog Music, has helped to continue Moog's legacy of designing and producing beautifully crafted electronic instruments aimed at inspiring artists world-wide to explore and expand their personal sonic vocabularies. Cyril strives daily to continue Bob Moog's legacy and to have a lot of fun along the way. “It's truly a blessing to have the opportunity to contribute in one small-way to the transformative powers of music to bring joy and connect people on the deepest levels through-out the world”.https://www.moogmusic.com/Dorit Chrysler BiogDorit Chrysler has been dubbed a superior wizard of the theremin. An Austrian-born, New York based composer and performer, Chrysler is the co-founder of the NY Theremin Society and started the first international school for Theremin, KidCoolThereminSchool and L'Ecole Theremine with branches in NY and Paris. She is also one of the most visible Thereminists spreading the gospel of this mysterious sounding instrument. Most recently she finished her analog soundtrack for a remake of “M” by Fritz Lang and was featured on the soundtrack of the HBO documentary “Going Clear”. Chrysler received her master's degree of musicology in Vienna and has notably collaborated with Anders Trentemøller, Cluster, Adult., CERN, Carsten Nicolai, Elliot Sharp and Laurie Spiegel. She has performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, had her work commissioned by MoMA and the Venice Biennale, and is the founder of “Dame Electric,” a festival dedicated to female | pioneers in Analog Music. As the director of the NY Theremin Society, Chrysler is promoting the application of theremin in different art disciplines and has produced the THEREMIN100 compilation release, commemorating the 100th birthday of the Theremin in 2020.http://www.doritchrysler.com/toc.htmlhttps://www.nythereminsociety.org/Bruce Woolley BiogIn 1969 Bruce Woolley bought a Futurama electric guitar, formed a school band, and dreamed of being a professional musician. After years of experimentation, and unsuccessful attempts at becoming a famous jazz-rock guitarist, he decided to concentrate on writing pop songs. In 1979 he co-wrote “Video Killed the Radio Star”. After a stint fronting cult New Wave unit The Camera Club, Woolley moved back into songwriting and production, forming a creative partnership with Grace Jones. In 1994, Woolley discovered Exotica and formed The Radio Science Orchestra, a theremin-led group that defined retrofuturism before people were talking about retrofuturism. A sonic time machine travelling along the whole history of electronic music, the Orchestra has collaborated with the world's leading theremin virtuosi including Lydia Kavina, Carolina Eyck and Charlie Draper. Notable guest artists include Grace Jones, Polly Scattergood, Ken Hollings, Dr. Robert Moog, Steve Dub and Thomas Dolby.http://www.brucewoolleyhq.com/https://www.radioscienceorchestra.com/Katia Isakoff BiogKatia Isakoff is a composer and multi-instrumentalist music producer whose compositions, performances and productions first appeared in the Add N To (X) album Loud Like Nature (Mute Records). She has since collaborated on numerous albums and projects including John Foxx and Steve D'Agostino's Evidence of Time Travel which was composed and produced at her London studio. Having contributed synths and co-mixed EOTT, she went on to join them for a live concert performance at Electri_City Conference Dusseldorf, adding Moog Theremini and synths to the sonic architecture of this ever evolving and expansive Karborn graphic novel, which premiered with a live performance at the British Film Institute UK and Sonic Acts Festival, Amsterdam. She has since spent much of her time between London and Berlin working on her forthcoming album She's Not Here.In 2019, Katia launched !N_K o L // B a new and innovative composer producer series bringing together pioneering, established and emerging composer producers to collaborate in various iconic studios and pop-up locations. We believe in going out with a bang and, perhaps, saving the best for last. That's why this week Neal, Catherine and Ben will be tackling two classic, epic interpretations of the same story. Up first is the indisputable masterpiece from Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai - featuring the Japanese John Wayne, Toshiro Mifune - a 3.5-hour, black and white, subtitled film from the 1950s. But don't let that put you off, it's genuinely really entertaining. Then - vying for the final Remazing of the series - is John Sturges' 1960 Americanisation, The Magnificent Seven. Adapted into English and updated into colour, cutting an hour and a half of runtime and enlisting Hollywood legends in the shapes of Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson and Eli Wallach in the process, can Sturges stand a chance of matching the great Japanese master? It's a hotly contested battle and neither film comes out unscathed. Stay listening until the end for details of how to help select the bonus episode to close out this first run of films. Every hour brings new twists and turns to Brexit, but it’s important to remember that a very murky referendum got us to this point. In this, ‘Brexit, dark money and the DUP’ episode, we press pause on a frantic news cycle and go back to 2016 and 2017 to ask questions about the dark money that funded the Leave campaign. The Americanisation of British politics now impacts the mysterious bankrolling of political campaigns, partisan think tanks, how the Tory Party is funded, and why the British media is sounding increasingly American. Our special guest to delve into all of this is bossman investigative reporter, Peter Geoghegan from Open Democracy. Also in this episode, Una is excited about a Dublin City Council initiative (shocker!), Andrea is very worried about Ireland’s potato crop, but still found time to outline the clearest breakdown of the Brexit timeline you’ve ever heard.

This episode of Pic.Think: TV (w/ Sy, Martin, Gladys & Raveen) explores the themes of social media, moral monsters and the Matrix found within seasons 3 & 4 of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror. The first section (Heaven & Hell) of our discussion centres around Robert Nozick's "Experience Machine" thought experiment and both the "San junipero" & "Playtest" episodes to explore the possibility of heaven and hell on earth. The second section (Moral Monsters) we sift through the episodes of seasons 3 & 4 to explore the dangers of virtual reality and social media in creating moral monsters. The third section (The Matrix) we conclude the review by discussing whether the Americanisation of these seasons of Black Mirror help or hinder the show. Also, the episode "Hang the DJ" inspires a discussion as to whether the Matrix is possible or a figment of our imagination.

Winston Churchill called the Australian accent "the most brutal maltreatment that has ever been inflicted" on the English language. But when Strine first emerged, it was praised as an unusually pure variety. Linguist Felicity Cox traces the history of our accent from the Sydney colony to the present day - when it's still changing. Plus: pronunciation can be a source of personal anxiety and public controversy. The dictionary editors muse on the Americanisation of Australian English, the rise of "haitch", and the oral gymnastics of "ophthalmologist". Strange Man takes upon himself the task of explaining Australia's health system. It is a good system that, unlike the USA's, will not leave you to die if you do not have the cash; at the same time, it is rather complicated and perverse. And it does seem to aspire for Americanisation way more than it should. And yes, maybe after listening in you will understand what Australia's private health system is all about. Michael Rosen is joined by writer Matthew Engel and linguist Dr Lynne Murphy to discuss the Americanisation of English. Is the pace of Americanisation of British English really increasing? Why do Americans say eggplant and sidewalk, rather than aubergine and pavement? Why does your spellchecker insist it's 'color' not 'colour'? Do Americans complain about the 'Britishisms' creeping into use in the States as much as we complain about Americanisms in use in the UK? Does it really matter if British and American English begin to be used interchangeably and could we stem the flow if we tried? Producer: Mair Bosworth.
For episode 22 of the For A' That podcast Andrew and I were joined by New Statesman contributor James Maxwell and Huffington Post blogger and Labour Party member Andrew Smith. The Labour party was the focus of a large part of the discussion. More specifically, the couple of interviews that Johann Lamont did this week and her speech at the conference. This became a more general discussion on some of the woes of that party in the post-devolution era.We also discussed their new Truth Team and what that says about politics in this country. Some of us felt this had a kind of Orwellian overtone to it, others felt it represented the Americanisation of politics in Scotland and the UK and is reminiscent of American style attack ads.Devo-somethings were also a topic. With the three Better Together parties now all backing some form of further devolution, will they be able to come up with a unified plan. Furthermore, would further devolution damage or in fact strengthen the SNP's hand.Back on Labour, is the idea of more devolution causing a problem between the Westminster party and the Holyrood one?LINKShttp://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/andrew-smith/http://www.newstatesman.com/writers/james_maxwellhttps://twitter.com/andrew_graemehttps://twitter.com/PeatWorrierhttps://twitter.com/jamesmaxwell86lallandspeatworrier.blogspot.co.ukhttp://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.comhttps://twitter.com/mgreenwell

Crikey-o-blimey! We're back! After a volcano-encouraged break, Rum Doings returns with episode 26 to not discuss whether the Americanisation of Britain gone one step too far? Instead John struggles with pomegranate wine, we ponder super-tasting, the merits of Marmite, and the Queen's insatiable loins. Inevitably we talk election, but having recorded this before Tuesday night, we weren't aware who our new King was to be. There's thoughts on the peculiar imbalance of political leanings in the press compared to the population, the difference between Scotland and England, and the source of John's self-loathing. Then we even discuss money stuff things. After the frivolity of this politics business, we then turn our attentions toward more serious matters: poo poo and wee wee. Inspired by a three year old, we consider the merits of poo, and what various people may look like as they perform one. Then we ascend to talk of asparagus wee, and the corrupted souls of those who cannot produce this potion, including nano-plans to fix this defection. Also, John tests the very limits of his girlfriend's tolerance. Also, what colour to political leaders wee? We finish with some absolutely shameful impressions of Gordon Brown.
