The Heat without Jimmy Butler trounced the Bulls to become the 8 seed securing a first round matchup with the Celtics! Why will this year be different than last year? The easy answer in the personnel on both teams is drastically different. For the Celtics, the addition of Holiday and Porzingis means that the Celtics can now play 5 out making the Heat Zone almost impossible to play. For the Heat, while their core is still there, they did part ways with Max Strus and Gabe Vincent who killed the Celtics last season. One thing that is ailing the Heat and not the Celtics, for once, is injuries. Jimmy Butler will presumably miss the entire series due to injury and Rozier has now missed the last 6 games due to an injury as well. This Heat team is still capable and is very well coached but it is hard to deny the talent discrepancy especially after the injuries! My prediction - Celtics in 5! For Episode 105, Radical Research follows the lead of musical polyglot and overachiever, Steven Wilson. Inspired by Wilson's recently-curated, Intrigue: Progressive Sounds in UK Alternative Music 1979-1989, this episode traces out the music found on the first disc of this four-volume edition, digging into such varied artists as Public Image Ltd., John Foxx, In Camera, and This Heat. This constitutes the first in a four-part series around Wilson's collection, which we will revisit occasionally throughout 2024. Should you have any interest in the rich mosaic of the late 1970s/early 1980s UK underground, tune in, turn on, and experiment out. This podcast is conceived and conducted by Jeff Wagner and Hunter Ginn. Though we consume music in a variety of ways, we give particular privilege to the immersive, full-album listening experience. Likewise, we believe that tangible music formats help provide the richest, most rewarding immersions and that music, artwork, and song titles cooperate to produce a singular effect on the listener. Great music is worth more than we ever pay for it.

Esta semana, en un nuevo episodio de Rebelión Sónica, los invitamos a escuchar dos grupos del importante compositor, baterista y figura señera del underground británico, Charles Hayward (This Heat, Camberwell Now, etc.)

Mascara-Sue “Biro 2” On this episode, we are joined by Charles Traynor as we review the solo album by a woman who was in a Japanese noise-pop band back in the late 90's. Her album is very much different than anything else we've reviewed and our opinions are quite strong. Our tracks of the week are Depeche Mode's “World In My Eyes”, This Heat's “Testcard” and Pink Floyd's “The Nile Song.” We finish with Lee's song “Friendly Neighbors.” This was a fun episode to record. Hope you have fun listening to it. Cheers!
A public forum at Melbourne's St Paul's Cathedral entitled "Fighting a Climate Emergency" was held under a huge three dimensional (it is seven metres across) artwork of Gaia created by British artist, Luke Jerram. Ever worsening warnings of trouble for the Shepparton-based Nicholls electorate has reached a new level with the Climate Council declaring the Federal Seat to be the worst in Australia with regard to riverine flooding, adding that even under the least worse scenario, many homes in Shepparton will be uninsurable by 2030. The Portland Trail Blazers fall to the Miami Heat, 102-94 to even up their road trip to a tidy 2-2 with games remaining against the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague for the live post game show where they'll take a look at tonight's game including: The Blazers were once again led by Anfernee Simons, with 27 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds. CJ McCollum backed him up with 24 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. It was a very common scene for Blazers fans as the backcourt bombed away from deep- shooting 10-23 from behind the 3-point line. Jusuf Nurkic filled in around the edges with another monster double-double: 18 points and 14 rebounds. However, the flip side of this is that Miami's Bam Adebayo was a 4th quarter wrecking crew, leading the Heat from behind by quarterbacking a suffocating defense that held Portland to only 12 points in the period. Adebayo finished the game with; 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and 3 blocks - dominating on every inch of the floor. Jimmy Butler was ejected for bull rushing an official and Caleb Martin stepped up to drop 26 points off the bench. This Heat team even short 3 of their top 4 (Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro both out for the night) dictated much of the 2nd half with their IQ and physicality. Flip it over to the post game show with Danny and Brandon to get all the details and to look ahead. SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! English drummer Charles Hayward is best known for This Heat, a band that defies categories, but has also worked through the NHS with Ambient Jam. We go in deep with art, music, history, philosophy & theory. There's also a hilarious bit about turning a 180 with Van Morrison (a clear example of the power of sound). Paper Mice is a three-piece whirligig from Chicago that blends a freakish range of influences into miniature, prog-punk puzzles. Started in 2008 by Dave Reminick, Adam McCormack, and John Carroll, Taylor Hales took over for Adam on bass duties in 2013, and the band has been writing and performing together since that time. The band is a fixture in Chicago’s tight-knit DIY community, performing their high-wire “stop-start mess of rhythmic tics and awkward face plants” for dance-soaked warehouse hounds throughout the Midwest and East Coast. Over the years, they’ve toured and/or performed with musical peers Pinback, NNAMDI, Meat Wave, Melkbelly, Oozing Wound, and The Spektral Quartet, amongst others. Influences include The Beach Boys, The Residents, Abba, The Talking Heads, Nomeansno, This Heat, and Susana Baca. Paper Mice’s first album, Paint it Pink, featured sixteen short, spastic songs about bizarre news stories, botched surgeries, and hirsute politicians. The follow-up, The Funny Papers (also on Three One G Records), continued the band’s jagged jaunt through the world of current events with eleven tracks about canine heroes, fast-food, financial meltdowns, and Dolly Parton. 1-800-Mondays follows in this quirky tradition, with every song being about weird and ridiculous true stories from the news-- in particular, this album often focuses on fire (mainly, people setting things on fire accidentally/on purpose). Channeling The Residents’ strange conceptual brilliance, The Beach Boys’ pop sensibilities, and expertly arranged musical complexity throughout, the band also enlists Grammy-nominated Spektral Quartet, Mike Hogg, and Ben Roidl-Ward as guest appearances on the album. Though the LP has been in the works for almost a decade now due to various roadblocks, surely, the timing is apt for this ode to the absurd, as we seem to be in something of a golden age of insanity when it comes to headlines.

This Heat special with Charles Hayward in conversation with David Eastaugh This Heat were an English experimental rock band, formed in early 1976 in Camberwell, London by multi-instrumentalists Charles Bullen (guitar, clarinet, viola, vocals, tapes), Charles Hayward (drums, keyboards, vocals, tapes) and Gareth Williams (keyboard, guitar, bass, vocals, tapes). This Heat were active in the ascendancy of British punk rock and post-punk, but stood apart from those scenes due to an experimental, confrontational, and politically charged approach. This Heat's commercial success was limited, and their discography consisted of only two albums and an EP, but in later years the band have been widely considered a link between early 1970s music styles such as krautrock and later experimental genres such as industrial music and post-rock.
Deceit is the second and final studio album by English experimental rock band This Heat, released in 1981 by Rough Trade Records. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Mary Currie is one half of Flaming Tunes, the UK DIY duo she formed with Gareth Williams following the dissolution of his band This Heat. Their fragile, ramshackle pop songs stand in stark opposition to the apocalyptic post-punk of Williams’ better known group, and have remained a cult favourite since their original release as a cassette in 1985. While Flaming Tunes' music has been made available officially and unofficially several times, its most recent reissue from Blackest Ever Black went out of print in a flash. That will change in the near future with an upcoming edition from Superior Viaduct, which fans will surely be excited to learn more about in this interview. Mary has remained musically active over the years but rarely spoken publicly, so our conversation was a truly special experience. We hope you enjoy beguiling the hour with us!

23 Skidoo with Alex Turnbull in conversation with David Eastaugh Formed in 1979 by Fritz Catlin, Johnny Turnbull and Sam Mills, and later augmented by Alex Turnbull and Tom Heslop, 23 Skidoo had interests in martial arts, Burundi and Kodo drumming, Fela Kuti, The Last Poets, William S. Burroughs, as well as the emerging confluence of industrial, post-punk and funk, heard in artists such as A Certain Ratio, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, The Pop Group and This Heat. Their first 7", "Ethics", was released in 1980, followed by "The Gospel Comes To New Guinea" & "Last Words" 12" single which was co-produced by Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk and Chris Watson from Cabaret Voltaire at their studio, The Western Works in Sheffield. A Peel Session was recorded on 16 September 1981. Their début album, Seven Songs, was released in 1982 and is said to evoke the claustrophobic humidity of an African forest. The album went straight to number 1 in the Independent charts. Seven Songs, which was recorded and mixed in three days, was co-produced by Tony, Terry and David, aka Genesis P-Orridge, and Peter Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV and engineer Ken Thomas. A hastily executed EP, Tearing Up The Plans, was produced in the absence of the Turnbull brothers, who were travelling in Indonesia. The personality clashes that arose from this experiment resulted in guitarist Sam Mills and vocalist Tom Heslop leaving the band soon after. The band performed for the first time as a three piece, joined onstage by David Tibet of Current 93, at the first WOMAD festival. This live performance would go on to become the first side of the band's most challenging release, The Culling Is Coming, which also features Skidoo's exploration into gamelan on side two. The album resulted in the band being criticised for being 'too abstract'. 1984 saw the arrival of bassist Peter "Sketch" Martin following the break-up of Linx. Skidoo recruited Aswad's horn section for the "Coup" 12", which featured samples from Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now and which was interpolated from their track "Fuck You G.I." from the album Urban Gamelan (1984). Urban Gamelan features Sketch on side one and, on side two, the original three piece line-up experimenting with metal percussion using patterns inspired by gamelan. After having been evicted from their rehearsal space at Genesis P-Orridge's "Death Factory" the band shifted their focus towards hip hop and turned their attention to production and building a studio, Precinct 23. In 1987 they released a compilation album, Just Like Everybody, featuring work from this period. In 1987 the Turnbull brothers formed the Ronin label and released Jailbreak by Paradox, widely regarded as one of the first breakbeat records, as well as tracks by British photographer Normski and MC FORCE. In its later incarnation, Ronin released material by Deckwrecka, Roots Manuva, Skitz, Mud Family and Rodney P amongst others. They signed to Virgin Records in 1991 and were able to build a new studio with their advance. In 2000 they released a self-titled LP, which featured contributions from Pharoah Sanders and Roots Manuva. This was followed by a compilation of singles, The Gospel Comes To New Guinea in 2002, and for the first time on CD, reissues of Seven Songs and Urban Gamelan. In 2008 the expanded catalogue CD reissues were issued by LTM, who also issued a double-vinyl edition of Seven Songs in 2012. This issue featured the 1981 John Peel session and 12" versions of "Last Words" and "The Gospel Comes To New Guinea". In November 2013, the band played the final holiday camp edition of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Camber Sands, England. In 2012 Alex Turnbull co-directed Beyond Time, a documentary film about his artist father William Turnbull. The film was narrated by Jude Law and scored by 23 Skidoo with both new and old material. The soundtrack album (packaged with a DVD of the film) was released by Les Disques Du Crépuscule in 2014.
It's been a minute, so in this short episode, we update you on what's happening with Phantom Power and what's coming in 2020. The big (and sad) news is that co-host cris cheek is departing. After two years of lending his unique voice, ideas, and turns of phrase to the show--not to mention producing fantastic episodes like his interview with This Heat's Charles Hayward--cris has decided to refocus on his many other creative endeavors. We will miss cris, but the show will go on. And he's been kind enough to let us continue using his golden intro! Check out the pod to hear about some of our upcoming 2020 episodes, with guests including Colin Black, Harriet Ottenheimer, Jonathan Sterne, and Siavash Amini.

Hudson Yards may be New York's newest neighborhood, but it has already risen to the #2 spot on PropertyShark's list of the city's most expensive neighborhoods Way back in Episode 7, we talked about the proposal for a public beach in Manhattan, and this week, the Hudson River Park Trust revealed some renderings of what the park and beach may look like 231 years ago on July 26, 1788 — New York becomes the 11th state to join the United States of America This week, the city Department of Health detected mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus within the NYC area. July begins the active season for West Nile infections, which are spread via mosquito bites, and no human cases of West Nile have been detected yet, so now is the time to be prepared and protect yourself from mosquitoes if you will be outside. Wear clothing that covers your skin, use a mosquito repellent containing the chemical repellents DEET or Picaridin, or use a natural repellent containing oil of lemon eucalyptus. Be sure to seal around your window air conditioners so that mosquitoes won't have an easy entrance into your home, and use window screens if you'll be leaving windows open. If you'll be traveling overseas, take special precaution to avoid mosquito bites, and consider a vaccination against diseases that are common in the areas where you will be traveling. If you're staying in the city, you can even do your part by calling 311 to report standing water, defined as a place on public or private property where water gathers and remains for more than five days, creating a habitat where mosquitoes may breed. 102 years ago on July 28, 1917 — 10,000 people march in the Silent Parade down Fifth Avenue to protest recent violence and riots aimed at Blacks in the South — Learn more about the Silent Parade from the Bowery Boys. 3 years ago on August 2, 2016 — Karina Vetrano is attacked and murdered while jogging in Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach, Queens 74 years ago on July 28, 1945 — A U.S. Army B-25 bomber hits the Empire State Building, killing the three crew members and 11 people in the building 43 years ago on July 29, 1976 — David Berkowitz shoots two young women in the Bronx, beginning the Son of Sam murders that would keep NYC on edge for the next year 103 years ago on July 30, 1916 — The Black Tom explosion near Jersey City levels buildings, kills four, and injures hundreds — Read more from the FBI's history of the explosion 48 years ago on August 1, 1971 — George Harrison and Ravi Shankar organize the Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden The Straphangers Campaign and TransitCenter had some distinguished awards to hand out to two of the city's bus lines this week: In Manhattan, the M14A, which runs from the Lower East Side to Chelsea along 14th Street, received the award for slowest bus line, achieving an average speed of just 4.3mph. When it comes to reliability, Brooklyn's B15 comes in last place, leaving bus riders wondering when or if the next bus would arrive. The slowest buses in Queens and Staten Island are leaving the other boroughs in the dust, racing down city streets at 6.4 and 7.8 mph respectively. Hudson Yards opens Friday, March 15th, with the public being able to visit the new shopping mall and food court, the massive sculpture of stairs (tentatively) called the Vessel History Hudson Yards is a unique development. Other areas in Manhattan may change names, like the Lower East Side splitting to become the East Village, and new areas may be built, like Battery Park City, but Hudson Yards will be the last neighborhood to grow from previously undeveloped land. The site has been a railyard since the turn of the last century and had been the target of many developers over the years, but only recently did plans come together to build the largest private real estate development in the United States on top of the block-long open area of train tracks. A cutaway model shows the multiple layers at the site: Amtrak and NJ Transit trains at the deepest level in the Hudson Tunnel, 30 tracks of LIRR storage just below ground level, then an elevated platform constructed over the tracks that contains machinery to run the complex, support structures drilled into the bedrock, and the street-level parks and building entrances. If you take the new 7 Train extension to Hudson Yards, you'll emerge from even deeper under the complex since the new station is 125 feet below street level, making it one of the deepest in the subway system. The part of the development opening now is really only half of what will ultimately rise from the rail yards. This section, east of Eleventh Ave, was developed first, but more residential towers and open public space will be added in the next phase west of Eleventh. In this episode we'll learn about a few new features opening this weekend in this new neighborhood. Stores Shopping at Hudson Yards will be pretty similar to the retail space that has opened at the new World Trade Center complex, with high-priced fashion brands filling most of the space. A multi-story Neiman Marcus will anchor the shopping areas, with stores like Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Zara showing up along the mall's corridors and stores from luxury watchmakers Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Piaget. Visit B3ta on the second floor where shoppers have the ability to try out products that are usually ordered online and produced by smaller companies that can't afford to open an entire storefront. The Shed The structure sitting along the High Line that looks like an inflatable ice cube is the art, performance, and event space at Hudson Yards, called The Shed. It's a transforming building with sliding panels and a rolling canopy that can host a variety of events. There's a very cool video animation on the Hudson Yards site showing how the Shed transforms to change from an indoor venue for concerts and art to an open-air plaza for watching movies, and the Shed will even announce on social media when it will be transforming the building for a new event, so you'll have advance notice if you want to stop by watch the four-story structure move. The Shed will be opening in early April with a five-night concert series. The Vessel The Vessel sculpture has fast become one of the most recognizable features of Hudson Yards. 150 feet tall with 154 interconnected stairways, visitors can climb onto dozens of observation platforms and view Hudson Yards from multiple directions. It's sure to become a favorite of photographers. The name may be "The Vessel" for now, but Hudson Yards will be accepting suggestions for a more-fitting name for the sculpture. During the opening ceremony where Big Bird helped Anderson Cooper officially open the Vessel to visitors, Big Bird compared the sculpture to his own Sesame Street bird nest, which is an interlocking nest of brown branches. Visiting the sculpture currently requires making a free reservation, but it's unclear if this will continue into the future or if it's only intended to keep crowd numbers low during ongoing construction at Hudson Yards. If you take any innovative photos of the Vessel or have a suggestion on a better name than "The Vessel", send them in to A Great Big City on social media! Observation Deck If you're longing for a higher vantage point, make your reservation for The Edge, an observation deck at Hudson Yards that will become the highest public balcony in the city. Jutting out to the southeast corner from 30 Hudson Yards, the triangle-shaped deck will offer a variety of views across the city and the Hudson River, all from a height of 1,100 feet. The glass walls surrounding the observation deck will lean outwards at the point of the triangle, giving daredevils an opportunity to lean forward and look straight down from a point 65 feet away from the building. The deck won't open as part of the Hudson Yards grand opening, but you can reserve a spot on the list to be one of the first visitors when it does open. The Future It may look out of place at the moment, but just like the World Trade Center complex, Hudson Yards will begin to blend in with the New York around it as construction is finished and more open spaces are added. The plaza is open to visitors and will have wifi access, so it may prove popular as a place to take a rest in Hell's Kitchen, which otherwise had a limited amount of public green space. The upcoming parkland along the High Line and the Hudson River will add a much-needed boost to an area where pedestrians were either relegated to a narrow sidewalk next to the highway and the only was the concrete rear wall of the Javits Center. Much like the open lawns along the Hudson in Battery Park City, the green space at Hudson Yards will likely prove to be a popular space for watching the sunset or having an afternoon picnic, and will really come to life when attendees from various Javits Center conventions explore the new spaces instead of trying to catch a cab out of the area. Welcome to the neighborhood, Hudson Yards! 5 years ago on March 12, 2014 — A natural gas explosion levels two five-story buildings on Park Avenue 3 years ago on March 12, 2016 — 84-foot tugboat 'The Specialist' sinks after colliding with a barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge Park of the day Davidson Playground — Morris Heights in The Bronx — Little is known about Oliver Mathias Davidson for whom this playground and the adjacent Davidson Avenue are named. The Queens Botanical Garden will be holding a Backyard Composting Workshop on Saturday, March 16th where you can learn what goes in a compost bin, how to maintain it properly, and how to use the compost after it has had time to develop. Charles Hayward is one of the most propulsive, resourceful and generative rock-plus drummers of the past half-century. An influential percussionist, keyboardist, songwriter, singer of songs, and forward thinker through sound, Charles spoke with Phantom Power about a 40thanniversary touring with a partly reformed and enlarged This Heat as This Is Not This Heat, and then opened into generous reflections on his solo works The Bell Agency and 30 Minute Snare Drum Roll. Charles is founding member of the experimental rock groups This Heat and Camberwell Now. Since the late 1980s he has concentrated on solo projects and collaborations, including Massacre with Bill Laswell and Fred Frith. Most recently he released an album of improvised duets with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. Transcript [CHARLES HAYWARD] Song is to be human.. [ethereal music plays in the background] [CRIS CHEEK] This…is…Phantom Power. [radio or television static mixed with an orchestra] [MALE ANNOUNCER] The time now, very nearly three o’clock. The next program on BBC One: “Songs of Praise” follows at three fifteen… [Funk/techno music suddenly cuts in] [MACK HAYGOOD] Episode nine. [CRIS] A drummer’s tale. [music fades out] [MACK] So it’s great to be back. Phantom Power Season Two, and this episode is one that I have been waiting for with a certain fan-ish frenzy, because we’re going to talk about Charles Hayward; the drummer, keyboardist, vocalist, tape manipulator, pioneer of experimental rock and roll. [CRIS] Yeah, right. And still putting out albums. Still touring. This Heat, the band that you would just hearing, they’ve recently done a 40 year set of concerts under the name “This is not This Heat.” [MACK] It’s amazing to hear This Heat still making such an impact on music, because I remember playing music in Chicago in the late 90s and early 2000s and at that time post rock was a genre that was a pretty big deal. Those of us playing that sort of music were really inspired I would say by a few bands. There was Can. There was Lee Scratch Perry. There was This Heat. Talk Talk was another one. [CRIS] Interesting to hear that. I like them too, especially their later albums. [MACK] So, This Heat was just a group that once you heard them you’re like, I can’t believe this already existed so long ago. [CRIS] They they take a punk DIY aesthetic and then they retain some of the immediacy of the elements of that music. They were more involved with a very different kind of idea about the interrelationship between melody and rhythm and noise. Dirty sense and dirty samplers and expanded sense inside music making that leads into trance ambience, precise bursts of silence. I think all of that is part of what makes their music still sound fresh. [ethereal music fades in] [MACK] Charles Hayward went on to play with so many interesting bands, including Massacre with the guitarist Fred Frith and the bass player Bill Laswell. [CRIS] They just put out an album this year of improvisations with [inaudible] from Sonic Youth. [MACK] By the way, how do you know Charles Hayward? [CRIS] Loosely rubbing shoulders on and off over the years. When I was playing music around various different scenes in London. This sort of person who I felt was part of a community of music makers and interested audiences over...
In 1979 Steven Stapleton, John Fothergill, and Heman Pathak — three fervent record collectors — released their first album under the name Nurse With Wound. They included a list of artists on the album's cover, which represented a homage to musicians that influenced the band. Since then, the so-called NWW List has become a sort of 'shopping list' for collectors of outsider and avant-garde music. The episode features: John Cage, The Residents, This Heat, Art Zoyd, Robert Wyatt, Ash Ra Tempel, Throbbing Gristle, Philippe Doray Asociaux Associés, Ghédalia Tazartès, Lawrence Weiner with Richard Landry and Neu!

On our recent trip to England, we found a cozy hallway in the back of London's Cafe Oto to sit down with living legends Charles Bullen & Charles Hayward of This Heat. Over the course of the conversation, LITA's Matt Sullivan talks with C & C about their music, legacy, the formation of This Is Not This Heat, as well as what's currently on their turntables. For folks in the USA, a miracle will soon be hitting our shores – C & C will be performing This Is Not This Heat. These shows will mark the first ever US performances for both C & C in any incarnation. Hallelujah! Tour dates below. Formed in Brixton, a multicultural, and – at the time – down-at-heel part of south London, This Heat were born into a music scene in rapid flux, first thanks to the punk explosion and then via new wave and its myriad offshoots into pop, rock and art-rock. But while many sought to apply punk attitude to chart-friendly sounds, This Heat were concocting some of the most experimental ideas ever committed to tape, taking influence from musique concrète, krautrock, the burgeoning industrial scene and even the dub reggae blasting out in their home borough. On a record-breakingly hot day Daniel O'Sullivan popped into tQHQ with what he describes as "musical air-conditioning" - nine terrific pieces of music to fan the breeze of righteousness over body & soul. As our regular readers will well know, Daniel is half of our long-time favourites Grumbling Fur, part of Ulver, Æthenor and Laniakea, and currently at the heart of This Is Not This Heat. Despite all that he's found time to release a solo album of mind-vibration pop music, Veld. As ever with O'Sullivan's work the music takes its power from a tricksy refusal to be pinned down - something very much seen in the nine songs he brought in to play here. They stretch from Gaelic meditations on death to Duke Ellington and the fuzzed euphoria of Lungfish, This Heat's 'Cenotaph' and the too-overlooked Judee Sill. Tune in for all of that plus conversation on inspiration, spirituality and his various musical projects. Thanks to Kathryn de la Rosa for production duties.

Season 2.5, Episode 8. The Safe As Milkery continues, as John & Mike, ably (more or less) assisted by Matt & Gordon, get stuck into the last three of the first glut of acts announced for the billing. SGPN website editor Ryan McKee ( https://www.sportsgamblingpodcast.com/author/ryanmckee/ ) ( @TheRyanMcKee ( https://twitter.com/theryanmckee?lang=en ) ) and NBA handicapper Zach Broner ( https://www.sportsgamblingpodcast.com/author/zachbroner/ ) ( @NBAZachB ( https://twitter.com/nbazachb ) ) give their NBA picks for every game against-the-spread on Wednesday August 19. We've got the Brooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors (-11), Utah Jazz vs Denver Nuggets (-4), Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics (-4.5), and Dallas Mavericks vs Los Angeles Clippers (-6.5). The guys start by discussing the very weird loss by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Orlando Magic ( https://www.nba.com/games/20200818/ORLMIL#/matchup ). Few people picked them to cover the double-digit spread. Then they go out and win the whole freaking game outright! Ryan definitely lost some money on that game. He kept doubling down on the Bucks in live betting as the odds tilted more in their favor. In better news for Ryan and Zach, they both picked the Miami Heat to overtake the Indiana Pacers. We've been waiting for Playoffs-Jimmy-Butler and we got him! This Heat team is exciting, even if Duncan Robinson ( https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202008140IND.html ) gets cold from three-point land. Before breaking down Wednesday's games, the guys give the locks, the dogs they like and a couple teasers. Spoiler alert! Gordon Hayward ( https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29688406/celtics-gordon-hayward-4-weeks-ankle-sprain ) is down with an injury for four weeks, so Ryan and Zach both like Philadelphia 76ers to bounce back as the underdog. Ryan is bullish on the Clippers continuing their advantage over the Mavericks, while Zach makes a great cause to believe in the Nets plus 11 points over the Raptors.
