Coach Code Podcast

Episode Overview: In this insightful episode of the John Kitchens Coach Podcast, John sits down with Jack Perry, co-founder of The Perry Group, one of the fastest-growing real estate teams in Utah. Jack shares his journey from pastoring churches to leading a 175-agent team alongside his two sons—and how creating a culture of high standards, accountability, and authentic leadership has driven massive success. They explore how Jack leverages leadership through vulnerability, how ego almost got in the way of scaling, and why letting go was the key to leveling up. From social media authenticity to systems and structure, this conversation reveals the foundational pieces behind building a lasting real estate empire. What You'll Learn in This Episode: The importance of letting go of ego to scale leadership How to maintain culture and personal connection in a large team Why building systems early is essential for sustainable growth Creative ways to onboard and integrate agents into your culture The role of family dynamics in running a high-performance team Tips for balancing authenticity, humor, and brand building on social media Navigating market changes by staying adaptable and mission-driven Key Takeaways: Leadership through vulnerability and authenticity: Jack Perry shares how embracing transparency, admitting mistakes, and letting go of ego have been key to creating trust and long-term growth in his real estate organization. From pastoring to powerhouse real estate team: Jack reflects on how his 28 years as a pastor laid the foundation for his people-first leadership style, which now fuels The Perry Group's success. The secret to scaling without losing culture: As The Perry Group grew from a few agents to over 175+, Jack reveals how culture was preserved through intentional leadership, clear communication, and simple systems like top-10 recognition and team-wide accountability. Letting go to grow: One of Jack's biggest lessons was learning to release control and empower others, especially his sons, to make decisions and lead independently. Creating meaningful team connection: From Slack channel check-ins to in-person tubing events, Jack shares how The Perry Group ensures new agents quickly feel connected and valued. Staying hungry in a hot market: Despite Utah's booming economy, Jack remains focused on pushing agents to improve, leveraging internal competition and big-picture thinking to avoid complacency. The power of diverse leadership: With himself and his sons each bringing radically different strengths to the table, Jack explains why embracing those differences has accelerated their collective success. In this special reunion-style conversation, John sits down with long-time coaching client, elite agent, and real estate investor Caleb Pearson to unpack his journey from being broke to building a multi-pronged real estate enterprise — including a top-producing real estate team, a house-flipping machine, and a growing portfolio of cash-flowing rental properties and multifamily assets. Whether you're a solo agent, team leader, or aspiring investor, this episode is a must-listen if you want to: Learn how to build multiple streams of income in real estate Transition from transactional income to long-term wealth Leverage listings, fix-and-flips, and buy-and-hold strategies Structure your business for profitability and lifestyle Use systems, accountability, and mindset to outperform the market In this power-packed episode, you'll discover: The Early Hustle: Caleb reflects on how he and his brother and cousin shared a two-bedroom apartment, furnished it with items from Goodwill, and used pure grit to build their real estate careers from scratch — cold-calling expireds and FSBOs with military-level discipline and zero excuses. Morning Routine to Millionaire Results: Hear how Caleb applied The Miracle Morning routine, daily sales training, and 7 AM prospecting blocks to build a scalable, productive real estate business rooted in structure and consistency. The $3,000 vs. $100K Epiphany: A pivotal story where Caleb brought an off-market deal to a local flipper, made $3K in commission — and watched the investor net six figures. That moment flipped the switch: “I'm sitting on the wrong side of the table.”  From Listings to Long-Term Wealth: Learn why Caleb believes the best wealth is built by owning assets, not just flipping them. He breaks down how to transition from active income (commissions and flips) to passive income through rental properties, cost segregation studies, and leveraging tax strategy. Building to Scale (and Lifestyle): Find out how Caleb structures his flipping business to buy 5–10 homes per month, what roles you need to hire (construction manager, acquisitions, closing coordinator), and how to gradually increase your marketing budget while tracking every dollar and metric. Why He Finally Moved to eXp Realty: After a decade at RE/MAX, Caleb reveals why he made the switch to eXp — not for the splits, but for the community, collaboration, stock incentives, and proximity to elite minds like John Kitchens, Jay Kinder, and Al Stasek. Learn how he's using rev share as a retention tool for his team and aligning with top producers for ongoing growth. Real Estate Investing Tips for Agents: The ONE rental property strategy any six-figure agent can follow How to partner with seasoned investors (even on your first deal) Direct mail tips, cost-per-lead expectations, and conversion math Why control, not commissions, equals true financial freedom The psychology of sellers choosing a “cash as-is” offer over a traditional listing — and how to ethically and profitably serve both Leadership & Team Culture Insights: How Caleb keeps top team members for 10+ years Transitioning to a team brand (CP Team) instead of a personal one Empowering agents to build wealth, not just sell homes What he's most excited about in 2025 — new construction, brand refresh, and legacy-building Perfect For: Realtors earning $100K+ who want to build wealth Team leaders looking to add investing as a profit center New or experienced real estate investors Entrepreneurs who value time, systems, and leverage Anyone tired of the transactional treadmill    “Track every dollar. S1Ep229 Redefining Success Through Return on Life with Randy Dyck

The Business Growth Show

Play Episode Listen Later May 1, 2025 26:34

Business owners are often told that growth is the ultimate measure of success. Revenue, units sold, hours worked—these metrics dominate boardrooms, coaching programs, and strategy sessions. But what happens when all that growth still leaves you feeling burned out, disconnected, and unfulfilled? What if the real target wasn't just a return on investment, but a return on life? Randy Dyck, a real estate veteran with more than 7,000 homes sold over the course of 30 years, knows that question all too well. After reaching the pinnacle of professional success, he found himself asking what it all really meant. The numbers were there. The accolades were there. But something was missing. That realization became a turning point, reshaping his entire outlook on business, leadership, and personal fulfillment. Return on life isn't a rejection of financial success—it's an expansion of it. It's a mindset shift that challenges entrepreneurs to pursue not just profit, but purpose. To build businesses that serve their lives, not consume them. For Randy, this means aligning his coaching and leadership around fulfillment, energy, and authenticity. Through his Scientific Scaling Systems, he now helps real estate professionals grow their businesses without sacrificing the things that matter most—time, relationships, health, and meaning. Throughout the conversation, it becomes clear that this shift isn't just philosophical—it's strategic. Entrepreneurs often believe they need to choose between success and satisfaction. But Randy argues that when you prioritize alignment, everything improves: clarity, performance, and yes—profit. When you operate in your zone of genius, when your goals are rooted in your deeper why, business growth becomes not just sustainable, but enjoyable. That shift starts with awareness. Randy shares how a personal exercise—what he calls an “energy audit”—can reveal where your time and effort are truly going. By tracking which tasks drain energy and which fuel it, entrepreneurs can begin to design their day, team, and business structure around what gives them life. From there, it becomes easier to delegate, automate, or eliminate the rest. This idea of self-alignment also ties into how Randy views leadership. It's not about declaring authority; it's about modeling curiosity, growth, and service. His leadership equation—learner, leverage, legacy—flips the typical script. The goal isn't just to scale a company, but to elevate others along the way. When leaders focus on being lifelong learners, sharing what they've learned, and helping others create their own legacy, they create businesses that thrive with purpose. In a time where burnout is rampant and “busy” is worn like a badge of honor, return on life offers an alternative—a model where success includes health, family, freedom, and fulfillment. Entrepreneurs don't have to sacrifice everything to grow. They simply need to redefine what growth means. If you're tired of chasing metrics that don't deliver meaning, if you're ready to design a business that energizes rather than drains you, Randy's perspective will resonate. Success is more than just scale—it's significance. And when you start building for both, the return on life is exponential. Watch the full episode on YouTube.   In this episode of Do The Work | Mindset Mastery… I found myself reflecting on the power of standards—not just the ones we set for ourselves, but the ones we pass down. It really hit me after dropping off my youngest daughter at her friend's grandparents' house and realizing the depth of generational success at play. I always thought I understood what it meant to build something for the next generation, but seeing that legacy up close, I saw the habits, the discipline, the mindset that get passed on, and how that compounds over time. Setting the Standard—It Starts Now Growing up, I didn't know much about the right or wrong habits. I didn't understand that you could just decide to raise your standard of living, or even that the standard you set today shapes the reality for your kids tomorrow. When I look around now, I see that the life we're living is a model for what those around us will accept—from how we handle business and our bodies, to how we treat our spouses. What really stuck out to me was realizing that so many successful people I know are first generation. Their parents worked hard and built a foundation—maybe as blue-collar workers or in mid-level careers. But their kids took it to another level. Still, what I saw this weekend was different. This wasn't just first generation; it was generational. Grandparents, parents, and kids—each building on what came before, each reinforcing the right habits and standards. It's Not All Peaks and Valleys For a long time, I lived in peaks and valleys. Great years, followed by tough ones. It was all patterns: nine months up, nine months down, repeat. I was reacting, not leading. My habits weren't in alignment with long-term success. Only when I started surrounding myself with the right people and building consistent habits did things change. Seeing those grandparents, I imagined the decades of discipline, the setbacks, the bounce backs. It's not just about making money or looking successful—it's about sustaining it, and making sure it lasts through generations. Sure, you'll hear about trust fund kids who mess it all up, but that's the exception. Most families with strong habits see their kids magnify the good—and sometimes the bad. What We Pass On—Good or Bad Here's the real truth: everything we do gets magnified by the next generation. If you have good habits, your kids will take them further. If you have dysfunctions, they'll get magnified too. If you eat like crap, your kids probably will too—only sooner and with bigger consequences. If you're disciplined and consistent, they'll take that even further. The same goes for your mindset, your finances, your relationships. A conversation with my daughter's friend made it clear—when you grow up in a household with high standards, those expectations become normal. Respect, discipline, and good habits aren't accidental. They're built and maintained, day after day. Your Responsibility Right Now Maybe you didn't get the best example growing up. Maybe you're first generation, just trying to figure this out. That doesn't mean you can't set a new standard. It just means you have to work harder to identify your own dysfunctions and put in the reps to build something better. Every choice—what you eat, who you listen to, how you bounce back from setbacks—is shaping your kids and grandkids, whether you realize it or not. So if you're tired of peaks and valleys, look at your habits. Look at your discipline. Because the only way to build something that lasts is to do the work, consistently, over time. You set the standard, for yourself and everyone who comes after you. Five Questions to Reflect On What standard are you setting in your life right now—and what might that mean for your family in the future? How have your own habits been shaped by those you observed growing up? Can you identify any peaks and valleys in your own success? What patterns or habits might be causing them? In what areas of your life are you still operating out of old dysfunctions? How can you start changing that today? If your kids or those close to you magnified your current habits, would you be proud of the outcome? Notable Quotes “Just imagine the amount of habits and discipline, the mindset reinforcement, the bounce back that they had to go through to not only sustain it long term, but to pass it on to their offspring.” “Whatever life we're living right now, we're setting a standard not only for ourselves, but for our kids, for those around us, of what they will accept from us.” “You can be reckless and still make a lot of money, but it doesn't mean you're going to sustain it long term. You'll rise and you'll crash. You'll have the peaks and the valleys.” “Everything we do gets magnified by the next generation. If you have good habits, your kids will take them further. If you have dysfunctions, they'll get magnified too.” “The only way to build something that lasts is to do the work, consistently, over time. You set the standard, for yourself and everyone who comes after you.” If this episode got you thinking, I encourage you to ask yourself those questions and take a close look at the standards you're building today. You booked the video appointment—great. But what you do next determines if you get hired or ghosted. In this episode, Dan Rochon reveals the three crucial actions top agents take between the phone call and the consult that dramatically increase conversion. This is how you go from “maybe” to “yes” without chasing, convincing, or begging. If you're ready to stop losing warm leads, this is the episode to study on repeat. What you'll learn on this episodeWhat you do after the call often matters more than the call itself. There's a simple rhythm to move from phone to video consult that works every time.Using the right language creates a feeling of certainty for the prospect. The strongest agents follow a specific step sequence that makes them the obvious choice. If you're not setting the next meeting with confidence, you're leaving money on the table.Conversion starts with clarity and ends with a consistent follow-up process.Repetition isn't boring—it's what builds mastery and trust. The phrase “quick video call—it'll save you time” works better than you think.Introducing the lender the right way builds borrowed trust instantly. The magic is in the setup—not the sale.Resources mentioned in this episodeWhatsApp Group: where scripts are uploaded for practiceGoogle Calendar Invite: used for pre-setting the consultation10-second video text script: for boosting connection before the callLender introduction text: for third-party credibility and momentum To find out more about Dan Rochon and the CPI Community, you can check these links:Website: No Broke MonthsPodcast: No Broke Months for Salespeople PodcastInstagram: @donrochonxFacebook: Dan RochonLinkedIn: Dan Rochon
