Welcome to part two of this two part episode with Chenoa Tarin.Today's guest is Chenoa Tarin, a Brooklyn based, producer, vocalist and songwriter whose sounds are an homage to the music that formed her. Chenoa Tarin also runs “Bouquet,” a monthly femme forward artist showcase in Brooklyn with resident DJ Dewy ‘87.As you'll hear throughout this conversation, Chenoa believes deeply in self-expression and the importance of art.Throughout this conversation, we will discuss:* Chenoa's experience at SAE Institute.* Complementary career paths as a music producer.* The importance of being competent AND kind.* What is technically correct versus what is true and authentic to you.* Chenoa's experience and ideas for starting an event of your own, wherever you are.* And, Chenoa tells us that you can do whatever you want, forever.Top 3 Gems From This Convo:1. REGARDLESS OF YOUR TALENT, ARE YOU KIND?Yes. Make good music. Also, there is no substitute for kindness and connection to a community. You can fail alone, but no one succeeds without the support of others.2. FOCUS ON COMMUNICATING WHAT YOU FEEL, NOT WHAT IS “CORRECT.”Notice if you are imposing rules and limitations about what is technically “correct.” Prioritize the communication of your energy and feeling through your music.3. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT, FOREVER.Remember that when other people say you that you cannot do something, it is not necessarily true.It is something that they said, nothing more.Listen on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.Tap in with toru:Instagram: @torubeatYouTube: @torubeattiktok: @torubeatTap in with Chenoa Tarin:Instagram: @chenoatarinChenoa's Website: https://www.chenoatarin.com/To jump to a specific moment in the conversation:0:00 Intro 1:38 Another's Success Is Not Your Failure 2:50 Quitting Too Early 4:40 Formal Education and Chenoa's Experience at SAE 14:03 Balancing Competence and Kindness 18:45 How and Why to Start Your Own Show 21:40 Self-imposed Limits and Rules 26:20 Caught Up In Music As Technically Correct 29:40 Comparison 34:10 Save Everything 37:30 Quick Hits - Get to know Chenoa 43:20 Chenoa's parting message 44:30 OutroReferenced:The Creative Act: A Way Of BeingThanks for reading toru's Substack! Welcome to part one of this two part episode with Chenoa Tarin.Today's guest is Chenoa Tarin, a Brooklyn based, producer, vocalist and songwriter whose sounds are an homage to the music that formed her. Chenoa Tarin also runs “Bouquet”; a monthly femme forward artist showcase in Brooklyn with resident DJ Dewy ‘87.As you'll hear throughout this conversation, Chenoa believes deeply in self-expression and the importance of art.Throughout this conversation, we will discuss:* Community and how Chenoa actively builds it through Bouqet.* Expressing your values and creating inclusive spaces through events.* Why Chenoa decided starting her own show was important.* That you are ready before you think you are.* And, that the success of another is not your failure. And, Chenoa shares a few bangers across genres in today's edition of the ProducerHead Listening Room. That's it for Part 1 of this two part episode with Chenoa Tarin. Take a quick second and subscribe to ProducerHead wherever you are listening so that you catch Part 2. Don't forget to leave a review and share this episode with a friend:Don't miss out on Part 2 of this conversation with Chenoa, where we will get into:* Chenoa's experience at SAE Institute.* Complementary career paths as a music producer.* The importance of being competent AND kind.* What is technically correct versus what is true and authentic to you.* Chenoa's experience and ideas for starting an event of your own, wherever you are.* And, Chenoa tells us that you can do whatever you want, forever.Top 3 Gems From This Convo:1. ANOTHER PERSON'S SUCCESS IS NOT YOUR FAILURE.Other people are not your competition nor in your way. When you witness another's success, make it a point to congratulate them.No one controls whether or not they succeed. However, they do choose how to treat themselves and others when they do.2. THERE ARE MANY WOMEN MAKING MUSIC.We all have a responsibility to include and make space for one another. You have more power than you think you do to make an impact.3. WE ARE UNABLE TO SEE WHAT ANOTHER PERSON IS GOING THROUGH.Social Media gives us the impression that we know how and what other people are doing. Before you compare or place judgments on another person's life, keep in mind that you are viewing curated surface-level snapshots.Listen on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.Tap in with toru:Substack: Instagram: @torubeatYouTube: @torubeattiktok: @torubeatTap in with Chenoa Tarin:Instagram: @chenoatarinChenoa's Website: https://www.chenoatarin.com/To jump to a specific moment in the conversation:0:00 Intro 1:45 Listening Room Track 1 4:40 Listening Room Track 1 - Discussion 8:08 Listening Room Track 2 12:22 Listening Room Track 2 - Discussion 15:35 Listening Room Track 3 18:30 Listening Room Track 3 - Discussion 26:20 Bouqet and Creating Safe Spaces for Performance 29:00 Philosophy behind Boquet 31:20 Inspiration for starting Boquet 36:55 Another's Success Is Not Your Failure 38:29 Add'l Context and OutroReferenced:Bouqet: The Monthly Show Run By Chenoa and Dewy ‘87.Heart Beats: The Monthly Show Run By A. Sara Carter is a BBC trained, mixing and mastering engineer based in Hampshire, UK. Sara started recording and mixing music in the mid 90's as a hobby from a small home studio after playing guitar for many years. Then, in 2000 in a bold move, she decided to sell her house, give up her established career of 16 years and relocate to London to turn that hobby into her new full-time career. She studied at the SAE Institute in London gaining an Audio Engineering Diploma and soon after secured a position as a BBC Radio Studio Manager (sound engineer) working on the UK's most listened to radio shows, live music sessions and major music festivals across all of the BBC's main music networks. She also created the foley and sound effects on several radio drama productions and comedy shows.  Above all, she relished working in the BBC's Maida Vale Studios where she developed her mixing and critical listening skills, working on sessions with a wide variety of artists from Crowded House to The Cure and Adele to The Black Keys to name just a few. She's been officially credited on records from Corrine Bailey Rae, KT Tunstall and Girls Aloud amongst others. In 2009, Sara decided to take a break from broadcasting and left the BBC to explore a different creative interest and became a Brewer in a small award-winning microbrewery (Yes, I know a bit random but it still involved mixing, just not music!). In recent years, however, she had felt a strong calling back to music and engineering, returning to the industry with her online mixing and mastering business called Music Mix Pro. Sara is passionate about mixing music and strives to exceed her clients' expectations and to make the whole process as rewarding as possible for both the artist and herself. My guest today is Enrico Berto an engineer, producer, and musician from Northern Italy. I am very lucky to receive a lot of wonderful emails and messages from our listeners, aka you Rockstars. Here is what I received from Enrico. “Hello Lij, Few weeks ago I discovered your podcast and ever since I've been an avid consumer of it! I love the way you make your guests feel cause they open up in a way I rarely saw on other shows. Beside the great nerdy tips they seem to be willing to share deeper stuff - ex I now know what's Vance Powell monthly break even or that huge mixers still suffer from "impostor syndrome" - and this is very inspiring and precious. I've been in the music industry as a session player, then a mixer/producer for nearly 20 years and as covid hit I was having a major momentum that got slowed down quite a bit. Listening to your podcast is a great source of inspiration and it's giving me the power to keep my head down and carry on with the grind. I thank you so much for it! I have a vast love for music in all its genres. If I really had to pinpoint some they would be Classic Rock, Alternative Rock and HipHop. I make music because of a deep, almost spiritual, connection to it. Making music is my passion and my call. I decided to turn it into my profession so my whole life could revolve around it.  I went to the University to study foreign languages and literature but later attended the Musician Institute in Los Angeles and a couple of Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft seminars. And then decided to give the music a serious go so I started hustling. I played in bands, composed jingles for TV, taught guitar, recorded and mixed bands on a crappy laptop out of mouldy rehearsal spaces …you name it! I was eager to get more so I pushed further by moving to London and studying sound engineering at the SAE Institute. I then began session playing, touring, producing and engineering full time, all of it bouncing between UK and Italy. In 2008 I founded Mushroom Studio: a little production heaven hidden on the mountains of northern Italy where other artists and I could cozy up and create.” I'm always grateful to receive emails like this, and listening to Enrico‘s work I discovered that it was fantastic! And so nothing brings me greater joy than to help showcase members of our own community at Recording Studio Rockstars.  Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: http://MixMasterBundle.com THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS! https://RecordingStudioRockstars.com/Academy Use code ROCKSTAR to get 10% https://samplyaudio.com Use code RSR20 to get 20% off for the first 3 months https://carltatzdesign.com/Mixroom-Mentor https://www.Spectra1964.com http://MacSales.com/Rockstars http://iZotope.com/Rockstars use code ROCK10 for 10% off http://www.thetoyboxstudio.com http://UltimateMixingMasterclass.com Hear guests discography on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3hXsJvZHlwDgfISd057ZeA?si=612c396661a04fdd If you love the podcast, then please leave a review: https://RSRockstars.com/Review CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SHOW NOTES AT: http://RSRockstars.com/338

After a disastrous start (sound familiar?), he meets a mentor who teaches him the success principles he needs to make an impact and find success with his music.   Björgvin is the author of seven other books in the music industry: Step By Step Mixing, Get More Gigs, and Better Mixes in Less Time. He has written over 1,000 articles on music production and his advice has been featured in publications such as MusicTech magazine, The Huffington Post, CD Baby's DIY Musician's Blog, Audiotuts, and the SAE Institute. Today we are going to talk about his new book, and dig into some of the topics surrounding the business side of running a recording studio whether it's a pro or home studio or recording and releasing your own music. Over the years his sound has emerged as increasingly dark and industrial; energised with driving basslines, shadowy atmosphere, and hypnotic leads. Burden’s DJ career was born in Rome in 2011, when he had the chance to play alongside internationally renowned techno artists like Len Faki and Shifted. In 2013 Burden moved to London. His masters degree in Sound Engineering at SAE Institute, the experiences this new city offered, and his fascination with its underground scene, helped sculpt his signature, albeit versatile, sound. Burden was soon contributing to the rave scene playing parties such as Aria, Superstition, Corner, HTBX, Dazed and Confused, 000011010 Collective, Wachtraum… As well as renowned warehouses and clubs such as Fold, Bloc, Electrowerks, The Cause, 93 Feed East, and Egg. Currently, Burden is one of the resident DJs of ARIA; a collective of likeminded techno lovers that have allowed him to perform in underground venues, and alongside names like Blawan and Electric Indigo. At the beginning of 2018, together with DLTN and a group of friends, Burden started his record label ‘Aurea Records’, where he continues to release his music and collaborate with artists such as Uun, Stanislav Tolkachev, Ness, Arnaud Le Texier, Tapefeed, End Train and Flaminia. Burden’s productions are played and supported by Tommy Four Seven, Ben Klock, Cleric, Paula Temple, Ancient Methods, Killawatt and many others. Lisbon-based Shcuro is an emerging DJ, producer and label owner who got his first contact with a DJ setup at age 15, when he decided to buy his own turntables and mixer - and started producing his own beats, too. Shcuro DJ and live sets are a hypnotic blend of dark, bleepy acid techno and breakbeat, and he has showcased that in several performances in clubs and festivals around Europe, like Tresor in Berlin, Boom Festival, Festival Forte, Lisboa Dance Festival, Gare Club and Lux Frágil. In late 2008, he moved to Barcelona, where he stayed for two years and studied music production at SAE Institute. Now based in Portugal, he's focused on his work as a digital/sound designer and music producer/dj. His first record, ‘Distant Shores’, came out in 2012 on the Catalan/Peruvian label Basal and got him some media exposure for his fusion of dub, techno and cinematic textures. He was then commissioned to work on several remixes for artists such as A.M.O.R., JGYB, Rastronaut, Mind Safari, Relapso, Shadowcomplex and Violet.

Cover by ©FRANZ ZÜNKLER [franz@afterhoursounds.com] The I am Frost Project – To create a project that goes beyond the boundaries of music, that was the goal with which René Frost began his I am Frost project in 2013. I am Frost combines music, video and words into a multimedia work of art that appeals to the eyes, ears and mind in equal measure. The story behind his new EP "No Way Out" follows on seamlessly from the previous EP - "The Path to Cognition" - and can be understood as a second chapter in this story, with the third chapter awaiting in winter 2014. The "No Way Out" EP by I am Frost, feat. Tinush remix, will be released on Vergissmeinnicht on 1 August. biography: Peace, love & happiness. These three words best describe the feeling that is created when I am Frost performs at clubs and festivals. I am Frost – is the stage name of German producer René Frost. René was born in 1987 in the German village of Feldberg in and currently lives in the capital of techno, Berlin. It was at Fusion Festival where René first experienced that magic moment that infected him with a passion for electronic music. In 2009 he left his village to study music production at the SAE Institute in Berlin and soon became part of the globally active artist collective Vergissmeinnicht. Since 2005 René has been practicing his trade as a DJ and has since rocked countless parties in the German-speaking area. He has played at clubs & festivals such as 3000° Festival, M.I.K.Z., Docks, Kiste Baden, Suicide Circus, Café Gold, MS Stubnitz, MAGDAlena and others. In 2013 I am Frost re-launched himself with a new name, a new concept and an elaborate live and visual show to bring open-air vibes to even the darkest of cellars. In summer 2013 he released his first single: a remix of Zio’s “Sag wenigstens Tschüss”, which also made it onto Zio’s album and was released by Berlheim Media Group. In December 2013 he released his debut EP – The Path to Cognition feat. Robin Schulz Remix. Robin’s remix reached more than a quarter of a million plays and was presented to a bigger public for the first time. In April 2014 he released the song Noom on the first Jannowitz Records compilation with Nico Pusch, Toni Rios, Patty Kay and others. Recently he recorded his second EP – No Way Out and invited the German producer Tinush to make a remix. From 1 August you'll be able to hear, see & read the result of this work. ┋I AM FROST┋ @iamfrost www.iamfrost.com www.facebook.com/iamfrost.official ┋AFTERHOUR SOUNDS┋ www.afterhoursounds.com www.facebook.com/afterhoursounds.official www.hearthis.at/afterhoursounds Download for free on The Artist Union
