Ride or Die Friendship, espionage, and the age-old question: How well do you really know your best mate? This week we’re taking a high-speed detour into Ride or Die (2026), Amazon Prime Video’s action-comedy adventure that proves some friendships can survive anything… even international assassins. Created by Tessa Coates and starring Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Ed Skrein, and Bill Nighy, Ride or Die follows two lifelong friends whose relationship is put through the sort of stress test most were never designed to handle. Part globe-trotting thriller, part buddy comedy, and part celebration of supportive female friendships, the series asks what happens when loyalty, secrets, and chaos all pile into the same expensive, classic muscle-car, getaway vehicle. Your podcasting ride or dies are Jill, Dion, and Quinny, who unpack the show’s central friendship, its action-packed detours, and whether or not one of us really is a Russian asset… We’ll also wander into a few other topics that somehow found their way into the recording, because no great road trip or podcast ever stayed perfectly on course. So buckle up, grab a snack, and tune in to this celebration of female friendship. Official Synopsis: “Debbie discovers that her friend of 20 years, Judith, is secretly an assassin. After a hit goes wrong, they go on the run while being targeted by a mysterious enemy, forcing them to confront the secrets between them.” https://youtu.be/GK1CX5D43Wk As always, a big friendly thank you to all you lovely folks who join in the book discussion each week. Even if you do have bad hair. Those who join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST… we don’t need to worry, becasue we can’t even ee the hairdo’s this is a one way street. The Whiskey Trip heads deep into the Texas Hill Country this week for a stop in Hye, Texas, and a conversation with Samantha Olvera of Garrison Brothers Distillery. Samantha takes Chief through her incredible 12-year journey with Garrison Brothers, from the earlier days of the distillery to watching it grow into one of the most recognized names in Texas whiskey. Along the way, they talk about the people behind the bottles, the hard work that happens when nobody is watching, and Samantha's genuine love and respect for the production crew she has worked beside for more than a decade. Twelve years in one place says something. In a world where people often move on to the next opportunity, Samantha's story is a reminder that there's something special about growing alongside the people and the dream you believed in from the beginning. "Loyalty isn't about standing still. It's about standing with the people who believed in you until the dream becomes a legacy." Big Chief, The Whiskey Trip Of course, you can't visit Garrison Brothers without pouring some Texas bourbon. Chief starts the ride with the smooth and sweet HoneyDew before finishing the first half with Garrison Brothers Bottled in Bond. The second half takes things up another notch as Chief pours the PX Sherry Cask Ranch Reserve, followed by the Oloroso Sherry Cask Ranch Reserve to close out the show. Two big, bold finishes worthy of a Texas-sized Whiskey Trip. This episode is about more than whiskey. It's about people, loyalty, hard work, and what happens when you stick around long enough to watch a dream become a legacy. Pour yourself something good and join us in Hye, Texas. Keep Taking the Ride

Gabby Gruen is appearing on StoryBeat for the second time. He has been a writer and producer of ads and commercials for several top tier ad agencies and their high-profile clients. As a screenwriter, he's sold work to Fox 2000 Films, and wrote movie scripts on assignment for a number of independent production companies.More recently, Gabby has been publishing novels. We chatted about his excellent first book, The Uniform, a Holocaust thriller, during his first time on this show. I found The Uniform to be an intense page-turner with real heart and wit.Gabby's next book, The Ride of a Lifetime, a Crime Novel, is set on the frozen streets of Detroit. I've read The Ride of a Lifetime and can tell you it's a gritty trip through the criminal underbelly of Detroit. If you like urban noir thrillers, I'm certain you'll enjoy The Ride of a Lifetime.
Stephen Carter and Shannon Phillips talk about what happens when the strategist becomes the spokesperson, whether the political backroom still exists, and why Carter is discovering that dealing with the public may be the hardest part of running a campaign. Then they dig into the strange out-of-province donations flowing to the Alberta Republican Party and the loopholes that could allow even more money to move through Alberta politics without anyone knowing where it came from. How much money would it actually take to seriously disrupt the referendum? Is voter suppression a bigger risk than anyone wants to admit? And is Jason Kenney becoming a Conservative elder statesman, or quietly auditioning for Pierre Poilievre's job?Zain Velji, as always, picks the questions and keeps everybody in line.Join our Patreon for ad-free episodes, bonus episodes, and access to our exclusive Discord.https://www.patreon.com/c/strategistspodYou can also watch our episodes on YouTube.https://www.youtube.com/@strategistspod Hosted on Acast. McKay explores the profound impact of perspective on our daily struggles and long-term goals as he makes the case that deciding to "enjoy the ride" is the essential shift needed to turn average days into extraordinary ones. By looking at the creative hurdles behind the film Gravity and the real-life endurance of elite athletes, he illustrates how a mindset of abundance and gratitude allows us to navigate life's "gravity" without being crushed by it.McKay draws a powerful parallel between an astronaut's survival and our own pursuits, urging listeners to jettison the "junk" of fear and doubt that creates a drag on our momentum. He shares the story of a realtor named Lee, whose seventeen-year odyssey to conquer the Oceans Seven and the world's highest peaks proves that while we cannot control the weather or our circumstances, we can control our gratitude for the opportunity. Through the five most important decisions we must make and the simple wisdom of a schoolgirl's "seven wonders," this episode invites us to stop living for tomorrow and start "dancing" in the life we have today.Main Themes:The philosophy of "Enjoy the Ride" as a catalyst for better results and a healthier mindsetHow George Clooney helped solve a narrative block with a message of resolveLeaving excuses, fears, and worries in the "unknown" to start anewLessons in rescheduling and accepting uncontrollable circumstancesLearning to enjoy the "commute" of life rather than just the destinationA roller coaster video as a lesson in choosing our experienceHow noticing more options and resources opens new doorsThe Five Most Important Decisions: Setting values, friends, environment, career, and spouse once to guide the rest of the journeyWhy stepping out of comfort zones is required to build a "new you"How gaining experience along the way removes the need for excusesTop 10 Quotes:"If you decide to go back to Earth, then you gotta get on with it, sit back, and enjoy the ride.""Too often we get stressed or anxious at our goals rather than enjoying the things we learn along the way.""Abundance is really your ability to see more in your life - more options, more choices, more resources.""Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.""When you enjoy the ride, you don't blame as much.""Good people give you happiness. Bad people give you experience. Worst people give you a lesson. Best people give you memories.""Your life right now may not be the party you had hoped for, but while you're here, you might as well dance."Show Links:Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen
Ride the Wave Already Moving with Sarah Olivieri Strategic planning gets treated like a decision you make in a quiet room, then hand down to the team. So leaders sit down to "set direction," invent something new from scratch, and spend the next year trying to force it into existence. The resource burn is real. The traction usually isn't. In this solo episode, Sarah breaks down why strategy is mostly discovered rather than decided, and how to tell the difference before you commit the year to it. In This Episode, You'll Learn The two sides of strategy — fixing what's already running and growing what's new — and why they need different thinking Why deciding a brand-new direction is one of the most resource-intensive moves a leader can make, and when it's actually worth it What "sprouts" look like inside your organization and out in the wider world, and how to spot them early Two strategic questions Sarah keeps coming back to (including the Dan Sullivan three-year question) Why listening — to words, data, body language, and energy — is a core strategic skill, not a soft one Who This Episode Is For • Executive directors staring at a blank strategic plan template wondering where to start • CEOs who feel like every new direction is being pushed uphill • Leadership teams heading into a planning retreat and wanting to walk in with better questions • Anyone who has ever committed to a bold new strategy and watched it stall out by Q2 More on the subject • Before you decide a new direction, list what's already emerging inside your team, your programs, and your data • Run the Dan Sullivan question with your leadership team: if we were meeting in three years and everything had gone really well, what would need to have happened? • Ask the One Thing question: what's the one thing that, if solved, would make everything else easier or unnecessary? • Treat listening as a strategic activity, not a management courtesy — put time on the calendar for it About Your Host, Sarah Olivieri Bold, strategic, and refreshingly human… Sarah Olivieri is the go-to expert for conversations on aligned leadership, outcome delegation, and sustainable growth. She brings wit, warmth, and real-world wisdom to mission-driven founders, visionary CEOs, and change-makers who want more clarity, more joy, and more results. Most leaders hit a wall when success depends on them holding it all together. Sarah helps them change that by redefining leadership around outcomes instead of activity, empowering teams to own results that scale and freeing leaders to focus on the vision that drives them. A former director of three nonprofits and founder of five businesses, she has a rare ability to spot opportunity where others see chaos, shift stuck patterns, and build organizations that support both legacy and life. Sarah leads with the same mindset that made her an award-winning sailor: iterate on what works, stay focused in the storm, and never forget the joy of the journey. Loading an adventure motorcycle changes far more than its weight. It affects the bike's balance, suspension, braking, maneuverability and traction—and can make familiar terrain feel completely different. Clinton Smout explains how to pack the bike properly, why weight placement matters, what changes once the motorcycle is loaded and what riders should consider before setting off.

EMOTIONALLY DRUNK ON YOU A Deeper Investigation Into Whether Insecure Attachment and Codependence Turn Love Into an Emotional Substance We Use to Escape Ourselves With Special Guest Dr. Allen Berger SYNOPSIS A lover can enter your bloodstream without ever touching your body. One text settles the panic. One unanswered call restarts it. A warm tone restores your worth. A distant look sends your identity into free fall. No chemical entered the system, yet the entire internal climate changed. What, then, have you been consuming? Human beings rarely describe romantic attachment as intoxication. Culture gives it prettier names. Passion. Loyalty. Devotion. Chemistry. Ride-or-die love. Yet beneath some of these celebrated experiences lives a dangerous emotional arrangement: another person has become responsible for producing the inner condition you cannot yet produce, tolerate, or sustain for yourself. Their attention becomes medicine. Their approval becomes evidence that you matter. Their availability becomes protection against abandonment. Their need for you becomes proof that you deserve to exist. Their obedience becomes peace. Once love carries this burden, relationship stops functioning as an encounter between two free human beings. It becomes a private emotional economy in which one person must keep paying so the other person does not collapse. Attachment theory helps explain how early bonds can shape the adult nervous system's expectations of closeness, separation, safety, and loss. Codependence adds another layer. A person may manage, rescue, fix, please, monitor, sacrifice, or overfunction in order to maintain access to emotional security. The behavior can look loving from the outside while fear quietly writes the contract. The anxious partner may call control “connection.” The avoidant partner may call emotional disappearance “freedom.” The rescuer may call indispensability “service.” The self-erasing partner may call surrender “commitment.” Every strategy attempts to solve the same unbearable problem: how can I keep another person from awakening feelings I do not know how to live with? Dr. Allen Berger's concept of emotional sobriety attacks this arrangement at its foundation. His work challenges the hidden belief that personal peace depends upon people, places, and circumstances behaving according to our private rules. “I am okay if you call.” “I am okay if you stay.” “I am okay if you understand.” “I am okay if you choose me.” These conditions turn another person's freedom into a threat. Could emotional sobriety begin when “I am okay if” finally loses authority? This does not require emotional coldness, radical isolation, or the fantasy that mature adults need nobody. Human beings require connection. The deeper question concerns governance. Who governs your inner life when someone disappoints you? Who controls your identity when affection gets withdrawn? Who becomes responsible for calming the fear that existed before the relationship began? Clinical maturity may involve learning to experience jealousy without surveillance, loneliness without self-erasure, uncertainty without interrogation, disappointment without retaliation, and grief without turning loss into proof of personal worthlessness. Philosophically, emotional sobriety confronts our understanding of love itself. Can love remain love when it demands psychological captivity? Can intimacy survive without control? Can commitment retain meaning when fear serves as the lock? A partner who cannot leave has not necessarily chosen you. A partner who must constantly regulate you has little room left to meet you. Culturally, many communities teach people to endure emotional dependence as evidence of loyalty. Men may learn to hide dependency behind authority, possession, silence, or rage. Women may receive praise for transforming self-neglect into service. Family systems can reward the person who carries everyone while quietly punishing the same person for developing a self. Under these conditions, codependence can wear the clothing of morality. Metaphysically, the topic reaches even further. What happens when consciousness seeks completion through possession? Can another person ever provide permanent shelter from an interior world you refuse to inhabit? Perhaps every attempt to make someone else the source of your emotional stability places sacred responsibility in human hands that cannot carry it. Tonight's investigation enters the space between love and dependency, support and self-abandonment, care and control, attachment and intoxication. Are you loving your partner? Or are you drinking them? And when the emotional supply runs low, who do you become?
