Molly Malone is one of the most famous cultural figures in Ireland and in Dublin city, her legend stemming from the 19th-century ballad “Cockles and Mussels.” Described as a beautiful young fishwife, Molly is said to have roamed the cobbled streets of Dublin by day, crying “cockles and mussels, alive, alive-o!” For Further Reading: Tourists’ groping of Irish statue prompts ‘Leave Molly mAlone’ campaign The Legend of Molly Malone A Brief History of Dublin’s Mysterious Molly Malone. This summer, while I continue to heal from surgery and dream up Season 6, I am re-airing our most popular series: Creative Archetypes! If you are unfamiliar with the Enneagram, you can listen to the intro episode from the original 2023 series here. And if you are familiar and know your number, might I suggest you listen to each episode (even those that aren't about your number) to develop empathy and understanding of those who see the world differently. The Enneagram is a powerful tool for personal and relationship transformation, for artists and everyone! If you have episode ideas, dream guest suggestions, or other feedback for me, drop me an email hello@artistsforjoy.org Original show notes: This week in the Creative Archetypes Series, we hear from Enneagram 3s. Merideth chats with Ashley Hall-Tighe, trumpet player and certified life coach, Nii Codjoe, product researcher and career coach, and Tombo Hite, attorney, whose biggest claim to fame is that he's Merideth's older brother. :) They explore the 3's secret weapon for getting things done, how to calm the chaos when you're going 100 mph, plus how to find your true worthiness outside of your achievements. Invitation: 3's Super Power—The To-do List Before you start your day or a creative session, make a list of things that you'd like to accomplish. Imagine what you'd like to say you've done by the end of the day. Hold the list loosely. Check in with yourself as you work. Let the list push you forward when you are feeling uninspired or unsure of what to do next. And if you get to the end of the day and your list is unfinished, take a deep breath and try again tomorrow. Remember: you are not defined by all you get done or don't. This week marks a year of Keir Starmer's government. But if Labour was expecting to celebrate the anniversary – it didn't pan out that way. Despite claiming a narrow victory with the contentious welfare bill, the government appeared to have one of its roughest weeks on record. Host George Parker is joined by Stephen Bush, Miranda Green and Robert Shrimsley to discuss how Labour got here, and where it can go next. The most famous North Face in the United States... a terrible accident... a daring helicopter rescue... and some important lessons learned about risk and what it means to move on from chasing your dream. In this next episode of The Fine Line, climber Jim Dahle explains how a fall on the North Face of the Grand Teton left him unconscious, with severe head, neck, and facial trauma. His partner, Christian Feinhauer, was left to treat his longtime friend and call for help from the Jenny Lake Rangers. Ken Kreis, a year-round Jenny Lake Ranger, discusses how the rescue unfolded into a helicopter mission, where the blades of the ship were just feet from the cliff face. The pilot that day was Jon Bourke, from Teton County Search & Rescue, underscoring the critical partnership between TCSAR and the Jenny Lake Rangers. As Dahle says, “Not all heroes were capes. Some of them wear harnesses.” You can learn more about the Jenny Lake Rangers and how you can support them at www.gtnpf.org/jenny-lake-rangers. Story and interview by Matt Hansen. VIBES & VERSES: A Night of Laughs and Lyrics.
President Trump's “big, beautiful bill” is a bad piece of legislation. It includes trillions of dollars in tax cuts that are very much tilted toward the rich, along with savage cuts to Medicaid, nutrition assistance and green energy. And on Tuesday, July 1, the Senate passed it in a 51-50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance as the tiebreaker. But bad policy only matters if people know about it, and a lot of people don't — partly because there are an overwhelming number of provisions, and partly because the Trump administration is already flooding the zone with so many other major policy fights. So I asked Matt Yglesias, the author of the Slow Boring newsletter, back on the show to go through what is in this bill and why it has been so hard to build momentum for pushback. Our media, higher education, and, of course, governments tell us that our social and economic problems are due to capitalism. Yet, what we see are governments bringing us inflation, chaos, and the horror of war. It's time we abandon the fiction that governments "serve the people."Original article: https://mises.org/mises-wire/free-market-would-preclude-todays-headlines

“The four of us are on a one-way bullet train to Stupid City” - Andrew on covering this movie for the show On this week's episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza does indeed head to Stupid City as we're talking about the really silly, really short, sci-fi thriller, Lucy! How totally great is Choi Min-sik in this movie? Precisely how many seconds is Morgan Freeman standing on-screen? When Lucy gets so smart, why is she still unable to understand and speak multiple languages? With the action and fight choreography being as fun as they are, couldn't we have gotten more of that and less of Morgan Freeman giving that lecture? And do people at the front desk of a Westin care if you're going to eat at the hotel restaurant? PLUS: Lucy visits all the best Times Square chain restaurants and attractions! Lucy stars Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Amr Waked, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Pilou Asbaek, Lio Tipton, and Choi Min-sik as Mr. Jang; directed by Luc Besson. From the Producer of Days of Thunder (Jerry Bruckheimer) and the Director of Tom Gun Maverick (Joseph Kosinski) comes a new ORIGINAL summer epic combining elements of both films and even headlined by an major movie star comparable to Tom Cruise.. That would be Oscar-winner Brad Pitt who stars as Sonny, a veteran racer on the verge of retirement who returns to his original sport of passion, Formula One racing. He has been courted back by his his old teammate (Javier Bardem) who now owns a racing team and is being paired with a hot shot rookie racer named Joshua played by British up-and-comer Damson Idris (Snowfall). In the middle of a tumultuous season, they compete together - or against each other - in an increasingly high-stakes series of races, with guidance and assistance from their Team Leader/Designer Kate played by Oscar-nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin). And what results is a pulse-pounding, high-speed racing spectacle.....but is it as good as those other films which clearly inspired it?Host & Editor: Geoff GershonEditor: Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
