Not surprisingly, Anna graduated from The University of Victoria, with a Degree in both English and Gender Studies, fuelling her eventual mission to put the power of words back into the hands of women. Despite multiple other certifications along the way, including one with world-renowned author and personal transformation pioneer, Deepak Chopra, it was ultimately her personal battle with post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety that became the catalyst for the work she does now, as she helps pave the way for others to live with vulnerability and courage whether they are online, offline or on stage. At the age of 21, Brandi was living in a women's shelter where she created the concept for a cosmetics brand and lets just say, the rest is history! Not only has she secured a spot as an alumni member of the esteemed Sephora Accelerate program in 2018, but she was also selected as one of Chatelaine Magazine's 2018 women of the year. Brandi believes change can happen through small, conscious, and consistent actions and Evio continues to show their dedication to this through their numerous charitable initiatives and actions, including the Break Things podcast and the “Did I Make Myself Clear” campaign. Brandi was also recognized as one of 2020's top 25 women of influence. In this episode, Brandi will open up about living in a shelter, the origins of Evio, and how she found herself in a male-dominated beauty industry almost a decade ago. Brandi will also talk about the shift she sees in an industry that is not necessarily geared toward men in power and women consuming anymore, especially given the multitude of men's products and genderless products coming out nowadays. She will also discuss the challenges of trauma, PTSD, and stress, including the importance of exercising your mind just as much as your body. Last but not least, Brandi will reflect on the harmful ways in which we define people, often based on physical appearance. Keep listening to hear how Brandi is using her beauty company and podcast to break stigmas, provide “kind luxury,” and to start the conversation of reallocating funds from domestic violence police units to support organizations keeping our communities safe.EVIO WebsiteInstagram:@eviobeauty @brandileifso

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for Chatelaine, leading Canadian women's magazine from Toronto, Ontario, on October 17, 2007. Having seen a then-recent article about Mark Henkel in another Canadian magazine (MacLean's), the writer Chris Dafoss (correct spelling not known) wanted to do an article (due to be published in the following Spring) from the angle of polygamy's growing acceptance. Mark Henkel differentiated the Mormon-based group in Bountiful, Canada, from other forms of polygamy, such as Christian polygamy and Secular polygamy. When the writer first guessed that Christian polygamy was "Old Testament based," Mark Henkel provided the clarity to her that that was definitely not the case, that Christian polygamy is "New Covenant based Christianity" based on all the Bible. This 50-minute interview is a comprehensive interview, providing several answers to many frequently asked questions about polygamy. http://www.NationalPolygamyAdvocate.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nationalpolygamyadvocate/support

In this episode of the Own Your Intuitive podcast, my mind was blown. If you want to completely shift your relationship with not only your kids, but also everyone in your life, this episode is a MUST listen. Jennifer Kolari is a brilliant parenting expert and genuinely cares about changing how we communicate with others. In this episode we learn how Jennifer came into her specific method of supporting kids and parents, and also how to use it. Through connected parenting, Jennifer changes the way we connect with our spirited children. As gifted parents, we often have little mini us’s who test our limits and create discomfort as our mirrors. Through role playing, we share an exact conversation that happens to every parent at some point in their child’s lives, and how to shift the conversation to meet the child’s needs. In all seriousness, I couldn’t believe the difference that I felt acting as my child. The emotions were so big it brought me to tears. I’m so grateful to have experienced this first hand, and will absolutely be bringing Jennifer back on the show. This is such an important conversation to be having and Jennifer’s CALM method can change every parent/child relationship. We want to make our next episode about YOU!! What is happening in your household that you want to know how to address? Please send questions that you have for Jennifer to tamara@tamaraarnold.ca and we will do a Q&A podcast episode to make sure your specific parent/child questions get answered. ***if you LOVE role playing as much as I do, in Jennifer’s course, you get to experience these conversations first hand and feel the significant shift that happens when you do. ***Using this method of communicating is hard. It’s something you have never done before. The key is to practice and not to give up! I’ve been working on using it since we recorded this episode and can say first hand, I’m still in the infant stage of learning and have no intention of giving up. More about Jennifer: Please add in your Bio: Jennifer Kolari, Child and Family Therapist is one of the nation’s leading parenting experts and the founder of Connected Parenting. In other vandal news two teenagers were also caught slashing over 100 tires over Thanksgiving weekend, the guys reminisce about dumb childhood vandalism they did back in the day (03:38). Congratulations to all of us for making it to legalization! But unfortunately with legalization also comes rules (06:30). A concerned mother wrote in to Chatelaine Magazine to ask if it's ok for her non black son to wear a Black Panther costume for Halloween 2018 (12:32). Apparently it's an election year and who better to break down the Mayoral field than three guys who don't know shit about politics! We pretty much just roast the candidates for twenty minutes so enjoy "The Roast of Vancouver's Mayoral Candidates". Maybe don't use this as a guide on who to vote for but be sure to exercise your right to vote this weekend! #VoteOrDie (14:20). More great news this week just in time for legalization 7-11 now delivers (29:38). In Ravi's hero of the week the guys talk about the story of the BC man who jumped into a Toronto aquariums shark tank (32:10).

With no guest joining Avery on this episode, she takes the time to talk about a very important subject — digital security. In today’s show, she shares practical advice that anyone can use in a more convenience-based lifestyle. She covers everything from things to watch out for, to how differences devices might be affected, as well as sharing some tips and resources to improve your digital security practices. Key Takeaways: [2:05] Many small businesses don’t always have their own dedicated IT department; in addition to installing software and getting email set-up, they also have to worry about security. There are things that could go wrong, and it’s important to have your security properly configured, to protect yourself and your information. [4:31] The number one threat seems to be people getting Malware. Malware is an umbrella term that covers all sorts of bad things that could happen to your computer. This might happen if someone is trying to control your computer, or trying to spread something else around. People are also getting into the “Malware scene” for money (Ransomware). The average ransom demand is $649, and 43% of Ransomware victims are employees within organizations. [8:29] Digital security should be practiced daily; it should become a habit just as your physical safety is. [9:27] Setup: computers, smartphones, websites. Websites have security issues, and if you are the owner of a website, you need to make sure you’re thinking about security for your website. For computers, Macs tend to be a little more secure than PC’s, but they are still susceptible to viruses, etc. Owners of both computers need to configure their computers correctly. As with computers, if you have a smartphone there are safety and security vulnerabilities (Android phones more so than iPhones or other iOS devices). [11:53] Once you have things setup, it will become a day-to-day practice of digital security. The two biggest vulnerabilities of digital security today are phishing emails and data breaches. [12:36] Phishing emails are spam emails that come in, but they are getting much better. They may look like they’re coming from people or a company you know, and the messages are starting to look legitimate and professional. If you follow the links provided, your computer may get infected with a virus, or you might be tricked into sharing some kind of secure information you wouldn’t want to share. Be very careful when you’re checking your email — check out the link destinations and the file names to discern legitimacy before you click it. [15:27] With so many digital accounts, it is (unfortunately) highly possible that platforms will have a data breach. Password management — and having a different password for different logins — is very important. If, for some reason, your password gets shared in a data breach, and you only have one password, someone could easily access several of your accounts with one password. Avery suggests using a password manager. [20:51] Keep everything updated, especially on your phone. Updating the apps and the operating system on your phone is one of the number one ways to block security vulnerabilities. Many times when there is an update, it is for a security patch. [21:54] If you use your phone to message people, some messaging apps aren’t totally secure. The most secure app Avery recommends is Signal, which offers end-to-end encryption. [23:30] If a program offers you two-step authentication, use it! This system allows you to log in with your password, and then provides a second verification on another device before logging you in. [24:42] VPN: Virtual Private Network. A VPN makes sure that whatever you’re doing online is encrypted. Whenever you’re on an open wifi source, you definitely need to turn on a VPN. They should work on any number of devices. [26:52] Anti-virus software is generally not very effective — it’s not fast enough to keep up, and it can give you a false sense of security. Avery doesn’t recommend running anti-virus software, but rather encourages best practices of digital security on a routine basis. This includes blocking advertisements from your web browser. [29:43] Avery talks about security of email — they are about as secure as sending a postcard in the mail. Be very careful about the amount and type of information you are sending or attaching into an email. Good alternatives to email: fax machine, cloud-computing solutions, or a unique sharing tool: One Time Secret. Nutritionist Julie Daniluk hosts Healthy Gourmet on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), a reality cooking show that highlights the ongoing battle between taste and nutrition as unique groups – bikers, dragon boat racers, ballroom dancers – challenge their taste buds with nutritious foods. Julie is a health expert for The Marilyn Denis Show (CTV) and has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows, including The Dr Oz Show, CTV’s Breakfast TV, CP24‘s Wylde on Health and LisaLive Radio. Television viewers will also recognize Julie from her Busted segments on The Right Fit (OWN) where, acting as a nutrition encyclopedia, she examines the foods people need to stay healthy. Her fun and engaging style comes in handy creating recipes for Chatelaine Magazine that are packed with health tips. After four years of rigorous theatre arts training, Julie found herself reading more about nutrition than about Shakespeare. She had an insatiable appetite for figuring out how and why food affects us so profoundly. She returned to school to become a nutritionist, graduating from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, and becoming a cooperative owner of one of Canada’s largest health food stores, The Big Carrot Natural Food Market, as well as health editor for Viva Magazine, a natural health publication with a circulation over 120,000 coast-to-coast. Julie’s food activism has led her to speak to Parliament about the potential health risks of genetically modified food, and in order to bring food advocacy issues to a wider audience, Julie has been the event producer for Bio-Diversity with David Suzuki and FoodShare’s Field to Table Festival. Julie’s search for nutritional understanding has taken her around the world and provided her one of her greatest joys to-date – cooking on Greenpeace’s tall sailing ship, Rainbow Warrior, during its GE-free New Zealand tour.

Chatelaine Magazine recently named Athena Reich the “World’s Top Lady Gaga Impersonator.” But to label her an impersonator would tell only a fraction of the story. Reich, a talented artist in her own right, subverts Gaga with her own unique brand of feminist and queer music and drama – going so far as to incorporate her own pregnancy into a show called #ARTBIRTH, where Gaga delivers a baby live on stage. How Gaga is Reich? Billboard Magazine once printed a photo of her, mistakenly thinking it was Gaga. Then there’s the fact that Gaga herself tweeted in support of Reich’s work. In 2015 she starred as Lady Gaga in #ARTBIRTH at the Laurie Beechman Theater in NYC, which received multiple run extensions and a Time Out Critic's pick. Reich is hardly limited to her impersonator role. As a singer/songwriter, she has released 5 full-length albums and numerous singles. Her music videos have charted #1 on MTV LOGO and her song "Love is Love" won Best Pop Song at the Outmusic Awards. As an actress, her credits include While Collar, The Perfect Murder, "An Evening with Donald Kempinski" (Little Fella Films), "Hush: Inside the Waiting Womb" (LA / NY). Her music can be bought on iTunes or streamed on Spotify.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gloria and her husband Ricardo at the Starting Point Entrepreneurship Conference at Saint Mary's University in Halifax this February. Gloria is a remarkable young woman who has done all of the things that you are "supposed to" do to notch success in this life. Then finding that unfulfilling struck out to spread her message and carve her own path. Gloria earned her B.A. at McGill University and an M.A. in International Affairs from The University of Toronto. She speaks four languages fluently, is a regular Huffington Post columnist and a HuffPost LIVE commentator. You’ll see her in the media too, from Rogers TV to Chatelaine Magazine, Glow Magazine and CTV. Her first book BYOB: The Unapologetic Guide to Being Your Own Boss became an Amazon.ca best seller in entrepreneurship and self-esteem in October 2013, less than one month after publication. In this episode we talk about playing with the possibilities. We talk about desire mapping vs. goal setting and growth through experimentation. Gloria shares some of her habits for success. We also discuss how to overcome that negative noise in your head when you set out on a new adventure. We talked a lot about philosophy and left enough room to have Gloria back on a future episode to talk more tactical strategies. I really enjoyed this one and I hope you do too.
