It was another blowout for Nebraska which allowed the Sunday Side Session to explore a few different things with this Nebraska football team as it is a quarter of the way into the season. Brandon Vogel of Counter Read joined Mike Schaefer to discuss Nerbaska's 59-7 win over Houston Christian but the two also tackled how things look on the offensive side of the ball, why Nebraska's receivers might be deeper than we're used to and how the Huskers have played up front. Then a look at Michigan and what's in store for Nebraska, where the team's biggest strength might be headed into that game and other thoughts as we look ahead. Newly discovered bank and tax documents show that Trump and one of his inner circle Bill Pulte have been lying to a federal court that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook committed mortgage fraud by falsely claiming that she told her lender that 2 homes of hers were both “primary residences” in order to gain an economic and tax advantage. As Michael Popok reports based on Reuters expose, turns out that Cook told her lender in writing that her Atlanta property was a “vacation” or “second home” and she never declared the property as her “primary” for property tax purposes. On the other hand, Pulte's own parents committed tax fraud that has been investigated by Michigan state officials. Upgrade your sleep with Miracle Made! Following the murder of Trump ally Charlie Kirk, Christiane speaks with human rights activist Martin Luther King III, the eldest son of the late civil rights icon. The two discuss the rising political violence in America and the need to seek civility. Then, Michigan's Democratic Senator, Elissa Slotkin, speaks with Christiane about what America's foreign policy should look like, following Israel striking inside Qatar and Russian drones entering Polish airspace. Plus, freed Israeli hostage Liat Beinin Atzili & filmmaker Brandon Kramer join Christiane on set in London to discuss his new film "Holding Liat," looking at how Liat's family fought for her return from Hamas captivity while also grappling with their own moral outrage over the war in Gaza and desire for peace and reconciliation. Also, Isobel Yeung reports on the UK government's decision to designate Palestine Action a terrorist group. And twenty four years after 9/11, Christiane reflects on her own coverage in the chaotic days after the attacks, and goes back to her report from Afghanistan from December of 2001, where she and her team found evidence of Osama Bin Laden's plans, his Al-Qaeda training camp, and the last place he was known to have lived before fleeing. CannCon and Ashe in America open with raw reflections on the assassination of Charlie Kirk, describing the emotional toll, the cultural impact, and how the tragedy is resonating with their own children and communities. They debate the premature push to name Ben Shapiro as Kirk's “replacement,” the pressures around speaking critically of Israel, and the deeper narratives shaping public perception. The hosts then pivot to the stunning dismissal of charges against Michigan's alternate electors, highlighting the judge's First Amendment defense and Dana Nessel's lawfare tactics. Through sharp analysis and candid conversation, they expose the government's abuse of power, the dangers of silencing election challenges, and the manipulation of narrative by corporate media. From personal grief to constitutional battles, this episode captures the exhaustion, resilience, and faith needed to keep moving forward in the fight for truth.

In the past few years, we have witnessed a frightening spiral of political violence. We've seen the killing of Charlie Kirk; the killing of Brian Thompson, the health insurance executive; the assassination of a Minnesota House Speaker and her husband; the shooting of a Minnesota state senator and his wife; several attempted assassinations of Donald Trump; an attack on Nancy Pelosi's home and husband; a plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer; and calls to lynch Vice President Mike Pence on January 6. As The Atlantic's Adrienne LaFrance writes, this is looking to be "an age of assassinations." LaFrance, the executive editor of The Atlantic, has written tens of thousands of words, including cover stories for the magazine, on the history of political violence in the U.S. Today, we talk about media coverage of political violence before getting to the hardest question: How can America survive a period of mass delusion, deep division, and political violence without seeing the permanent dissolution of the ties that bind us? If you have questions, observations, or ideas for future episodes, email us at PlainEnglish@Spotify.com. Featured Musician: Jim Cherewick THE VIDEO: [After THE JUMP: Things discussable.] --------------------- 1. CMU Preview: Offense starts at noon They rotate a LOT. Get ready for two offensive lines, three quarterbacks, and a lot of Iowa from the former Army OL coach whose YouTube clinics have been a staple of my learning diet. Fullbacks! 2. CMU Preview: Defense starts around 15:02 MAC version of Hutch, or a poor man's Braden McGregor is Holdman, the SDE who has to play B-gaps because they don't have the size. They're in a 404 Tite and they're aggressive, so expect something like the Army 2019 game. 3. Oklahoma After Review: Offense starts around 26:10 What it looked like on first watch. Frustrating that we don't have answers for Dantonio stuff. Felt like Hoke era offense. OL was okay save for Zack Marshall; he wasn't ready and we missed Marlin Klein. RBs were not pressing gaps, Haynes missed blocks in pass pro. 4. Oklahoma After Review: Defense starts at 44:43 Couldn't fit the QB run game. A lot of that was unbalanced, and Michigan didn't use the same response to that as usual, probably because Jayden Sanders was at corner and they didn't want him to be the free safety. Some Dammit Wink but I expect Guy to chip. Weirdly bad games from Benny, Guy, Moore. A little worried that Tre Williams still thinks he's a Clemson d-tackle. Featured Artist: Jim Cherewick A local artist, writer, and musician, Jim Cherewick has been involved in a lot of projects around town—Gymsee, False Figures, Best Exes, Piner, Wicker Chairs, and Congress. I discovered him because I liked his watercolors, and then saw he's playing at the Pig with Cattywampus in October so I started checking out his stuff and have been writing to it all week. It's all indie but all sounds different—the best way I can describe it is you start with a guy and a Fender and add a My Bloody Valentine slider that goes all the way up (Congress) or down (Wicker Chairs). I chose a spread to show what I mean. I'm still in discovery mode here but hope you'll join me. Songs: "Death Wagon"—Jim Cherewick "Urgency"—Wicker Chairs "Pile of Me"—Congress Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken down, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

Steven and Ian begin with a quick conversation about living in a time of political violence and horrific videos popping up freely on social media feeds (0:00). From there, they do a hard pivot to a conversation about the recent MTV Video Music Awards (which continue to exist for some reason) and the rapid ascent of the pop-rock singer Sombr, whose recent LP I Barely Know Her dropped last month (5:45).After that, they do a "yay or nay" segment on freak folk (26:13). They also find time to finally dip into the mailbag, where they answer emails about the best "day" bands (32:02) and whether it's okay to wear a band T-shirt to that band's concert (39:33).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about emo band Algernon Cadwallader and Steven goes for the Michigan rock outfit Liquid Mike (45:30).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. This week's show takes a look at federal charges in the widely discussed Charlotte train murder case. Murder, of course, is not generally a federal crime, but because the murder happened on a train, the Feds have charged it as a violation of 18 USC § 1992, which prohibits “an act, including the use of a dangerous weapon, with the intent to cause death or serious bodily injury to any person” in various transportation-related places, including on train tracks.Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will soon weigh in on the IEEPA tariffs case — the court has set a fast briefing schedule and will hear arguments in June. Also in this episode: The Babylon Bee lawsuit that got California's anti-deepfake law thrown out as unconstitutional; FBI agents suing over their political terminations (and why they stand a better chance in the courts than the various fired commissioners); the collapse of Michigan's fake elector prosecution; another court decision upholding a judgment E. Jean Carroll won from President Trump; and the unhinged pro-se filings from would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh (filed, of course, to Judge Aileen Cannon).Visit serioustrouble.show to find a transcript of this episode. Ti is an incredibly resilient multi-crime survivor from Madagascar. She first joined a dating app in her mid-20's with the hope of finding the love of her life.
