Hello and thank you for downloading another episode of The Flixters Podcast! On this week's episode we discuss the latest release from hitmakers, A24. This is the studio that brought us Oscar winning Everything, Everywhere All At Once, or horror classic Hereditary. These guys know a thing or two about being off kilter, and dare we say it, edgy? Sometimes the mix is hard to get right but if a film studio can do it, it's them. Opus, their latest offering, starring the wonderful Ayo Edibiri (The Bear) and Hollywood veteran John Malkovich, comes across as a comedy but beneath the veneer lies a dark psychological twist. Does that twist pay off? Check out the show for more deets! And if you've seen the film hit us up on our YouTube channel and let us know your thoughts. On Anniversary Corner we look back at Colonia (2015)And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. Mac & Joe are back to recap the Oscars the success that is Everything, Everywhere All At Once. Plus, do major blockbusters like Top Gun : Maverick deserve more respect at the Oscars, or are they only there to draw in viewers? Disney makes several cuts to some films & shows, but the studio also drops the first trailer for The Little Mermaid. Mac reviews Shazam : Fury of the Gods & the Disneyland Hotel finally completes its fourth tower.
In our own heads, we're on time with this one. Look. We're not really fans of the Oscars but because our listeners are, we had to watch these things and found that subconsciously, even WE felt it was important to cover! In this episode, two out of the three of us completed the assignment and watched "Tár", "To Leslie", "Triangle of Sadness", "Women Talking" and the three of us cover "Everything, Everywhere All At Once."
Wynter and Karen are back with season 6 to ask each other, “what did I miss?” as they cover some of the notable pop culture moments that went down during their holiday hiatus. Before they get into Spare, The Last of Us and M3GAN, the two debrief about the 2023 Oscars, as Wynter goes against the tide of criticism around The Whale, while Karen considers the significance of Everything, Everywhere All At Once's sweep of the top prizes. The two also catch up about their recent travels (KT went to Sydney for World Pride, and Wynter went to the backwoods of Washington as well as Philly with Wanda Sykes). Plus, us a nuo-lingo to ICK about and songs of the week!

This episode is mostly a review of the Oscars and the low prediction score from Sterling due to lack of research as he explains how he usually makes his predictions and how he made his guesses this year. Lots of wins for Everything, Everywhere All At Once, and why he's not as upset about Angela Bassett not winning as everyone else seems to be. Later, Kortney's bread obsession rises.
We discuss the winners and snubs of the 2023 Oscars along with the movies themselves. We touch on Everything, Everywhere All At Once, All Quiet on the Western Front, Top Gun: Maverick, The Fablemans, The Whale, Little Mermaid, Black Panther and other. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/john-viscardo/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-viscardo/support

Despite no shocking onstage slap, it was still an Oscar night to remember. However, many are wondering if Angela Bassett went home miserable. She was up for best supporting actress and lost to Jamie Lee Curtis. And, while the whole crowd stood for Curtis, Bassett stayed seated. And there were quite a few moments that may have had you reaching for a tissue. From John Travolta remembering his Grease co-star, Olivia Newton John, to the historic wins for the stars of the night's biggest winner ‘Everything, Everywhere All At Once.' There was no shortage of raw emotion. And the Oscar fashion police have plenty to talk about. Lots of stars dazzled in white, but one little problem with the traditional red carpet being champagne colored this year. Some stars ended up blending right in - literally! Plus, two New York police officers met their match when they tried to subdue a strapping 6 foot - 182 pound former college lacrosse player. And as Steven Fabian reports, it didn't help that bystanders were cheering the suspect on.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Original broadcast date March 2, 2023. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2023/03/binary-system-podcast-351-umbrella-academy-season-2-finale-and-oscar-opinions/ Since we've still got a few days till the return of Lore Olympus (and you better believe we're going into withdrawal aaaaaaa) this week Kathryn finished up season 2 of Umbrella Academy and boy howdy do we have some things to discuss. This is less of a recap than a deep dive into everything we loved about the finale, with frequent pauses to wonder if they're playing fast and loose with Five's time-traveling powers, and whether or not the "new" Ben is going to be a jerk. (Elizabeth, who's watched season three, isn't saying a word, nuh uh.) After that Elizabeth admits that season two of The Hunters is better than season one so she'll stop hate-watching it and start actually watching it. And they both approve of using The Last Bookstore as a filming location. Finally they wrap up with a quick look at the distressingly few Oscar-nominated films they've seen: Wakanda Forever (cried within the first six minutes), Everything, Everywhere All At Once (anybody calling it "Oscar Bait" has clearly missed the weaponized butt-plugs) and Blonde (Ana de Armas does a good job, but seriously, eff that movie.) This week's outro is a clip from Drive by Alex Productions. Apologies for the background hum in some sections, Elizabeth's house-sitting this week and hadn't realized how very loud their freezer is. Correction: Lila in Umbrella Academy doesn't really absorb or counter people's powers, she mimics them, but yes, only one at a time. Correction #2 - Unbreakable didn't film at The House Of Secrets in Burbank (it was actually Ontario Street Comic Book shop in Pennsylvania) and Leland says most of the movies that shoot in the comic shop annex are student films, but the comic shop you see in BIg Bang Theory was based on House of Secrets. Ted Lasso season 3 starts March 15. (Hurry up, Kathryn! - Elizabeth) (I'm going I'm going! - Kathryn) Here's links to the Saga #62 review and the Red Letter Media Best of the Worst episode. After watching director, Ti West's first Pearl movie "X", which alongside Pearl was regarded as 2022's high points in horror, I didn't really get it, but I wasn't prepared for the gulf in class between that good-but-rote standard horror and the masterpiece that is Pearl. Mia Goth is, I think, alongside Anya Taylor Joy, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, one of the four hottest properties in acting right now. Here she gives a performance for the ages in one of the most complete portrayals of a psychopath since Psycho itself. Hyperbolically I give it a 9.5/10 - same as The Northman and Everything, Everywhere All At Once - my top two films of last year.
THE WINNER IS... Our invite must have been lost in the post. Again. Again. We'll get one, one day, I hope. Anyway, time for our yearly run through of the Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards. The nominees are: "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, "Applause" from Tell It Like A Woman, "This is a Life" from Everything, Everywhere All At Once, "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick & "Naatu Naatu" from RRR. Once we've broken down the songs, we enlist some friends to decide our winner. Alex guesses the birthday, Ben is DMing some random guy on Reddit for a secret video and Dietrich has broken knees. Ciao.

In this July edition of our new monthly catch-ups on recent film releases, we delve into the controversial sexual politics of Paul Thomas Anderson's latest Licorice Pizza, try to untangle (without spoiling) Nicholas Cage's very unusual The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, get into bed (eh?) for Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, briefly discuss Spiderhead and take a further dive into more Everything, Everywhere All At Once as well as Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. In our TV series section we discuss our final thoughts on the recent Disney Plus Star Wars show, Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as the third season of The Boys (Amazon Prime). And, if that isn't enough, in our new Look Back section we also review director Lasse Halstrom's The Cider House Rules (1999) and Ken Russell's barmy 1975 musical documentary, Tommy. Enjoy!

The common themes, archetypes, symbols, and images, present in popular culture seem to either be cheap ways of scoring energetic points with the subconscious or they are intentionally utilized to hijack the same as part of a larger collective ceremony. Ancient mythology, gods, goddesses, and rituals are reenacted through both the entertainment industry and in news reports in order to conjure up certain feelings and reactions. From the ritual burning of an altar in Britain for pandemic victims to the projection of dimensional rifts onto landmarks around the world in promotion of the new season of Stranger Things, magic is by no means dead in the modern age. Dr Stranger Things is present Everywhere All At Once.

With the multiverse a trending topic right now, content creator and writer Ore stepped into the Post Credit Scene HQ. 'Everything, Everywhere All At Once' has been a huge global hit and is suspected to clean up once award season comes back around, but what did the crew think about it?
Ni hör Thomas exhalterade recension i avsnittet. We have a need for speed!
In Episode 106, the Marvelous Friends catch vibes left and right! From talking about some Kevin Feige Okie-Dokes, the state of the MCU in the Disney + era, and what exactly "kid-friendly" means. After losing 200,000 subscribers and their stock falling over 25%, Netflix might finally be realizing that they aren't the top dog in the streaming business. Meanwhile, there are a lot of new movies to talk about, such as The Northman, The Bad Guys, and Everything, Everywhere All At Once. The group...
The best movie I have seen in years is called Everything, Everywhere All At Once and it was written and directed by Daniels. Daniels? Yes, Daniels. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, to be specific. Two brilliant artists who met in college and began stitching together short films before working on music videos like Turn Down For What by DJ Snake and Lil John (over a billion views), Simple Song by The Shins, and Tongues by Joywave. Watch those to see their energy and magic. Daniels made their feature-length debut at Sundance in 2016 with Swiss Army Man also known as the “Daniel Radcliffe farting corpse movie” and then followed it up with this twisting multiverse action flick Everything Everywhere All At Once starring Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, and Jamie Lee Curtis. And how's this arthouse flick (with a paltry $25 million dollar budget!) doing? Well, it is the highest rated film of the decade on Rotten Tomatoes. It's being credited with bringing back multiplex crowds post-pandemic. And the people who see it and love it (like I did) end up going back to see it again and again. (You'll pick up so much more on the second time through and now I'm just itching for a third!) Daniels create art for art's sake — that David Foster Wallace Nature of the Fun ethos we've talked about before — and the result is this incredibly provocative and non-conformist stuff that just squeezes your mind until the smiles and tears start rushing out. Let's flip the page into Chapter 101 now… What You'll Learn: What is the greatest compliment for a film-maker? Why should you journal about a project before sharing it with an audience? What is the alpha-verse? Why is kindness a power? How can we evaluate our own projects? What is the tension between listening and hubris? How do the greats deal with imposter syndrome? What is it like to grow up with ADHD? How do people diagnosed with ADHD view the world? How can we learn to appreciate discomfort in art? How do we create visceral emotion in others? How do we supercharge our creativity and access ideas? What are schools doing wrong? What should school curriculums emphasize? How can we cultivate creativity in our kids? Why should we talk more openly about sex? Why should we question what we've been taught about relationships and sex? How can cartoon strips help us answer big questions? Are we living in a post physical world? How does what we consume shape us? You can find show notes and more information by clicking here: https://www.3books.co/chapters/101 Leave us a voicemail. It's that time again. Time for a brand new episode of The Flickcast. The podcast about stuff nerds love. This week it's Episode 480: Surrender the Body. Some of the stuff nerds love on this episode (hand selected, once again, by our team of experts) include the latest episode of Star Trek: Picard, still more predictions for upcoming Picard plot twists, exciting casting news for season three of Picard, the latest episode of the new Marvel/Disney+ show Moon Knight, watching Predator with your kids and a whole lot more. Plus, maybe even a bit more. Picks this week include Joe's pick of the new movie Everything, Everywhere All At Once and Chris' pick of the AppleTV+ series Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman. You see a group of Podcasters, but I see a story.... of recording a podcast. But maybe in another universe we are playing Bridge or in another one we are all fighting on a hockey rink or our very own Guest Star Matt has become Emperor and makes decrees with his Cat Advisor, or maybe there's another where Jack and Korey are.... I don't even want to go there! Anyway, Everything, Everywhere All At Once is a spectacle, a science fiction mind-(bleep), a story keeping a relationship together and understanding (for a mother) what having a daughter can truly mean sometimes, and the Daniels show once again they make films like no one else. join Jack, Trash Panda Korey, Andrew and Matt (is he a Guest Star in this particular universe) as we dissect what it is about this movie that makes it...so MUCH of a movie. (spoilers come 28 minutes in) (visit Matt on his blog at https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com)
We're fighting bagels of doom on The Infinity Podcast! This week: Scott and Rachel break down Daniels' madcap and multiverse-al EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE, going deep on its non-winking meta-texture, it's affection for queer existence, and the empathetic frame it offers last night's Oscars. Plus: that deleted Batman scene and more on EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE: HAZEL NUTS!
We're back with a look at Robert Pattinson in The Batman and Tyler Perry's latest A Madea Homecoming. We'll also let you know if some of the latest streamers (Severance, Ozark & Peacemaker) are worth your time. The JSS Movie Minute will be back later this month with reviews of The Lost City and Everything, Everywhere All At Once but in the meantime find more reviews and free movie passes at JulieSaysSo.com.
