On Episode 150 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis kicks off a celebration of the 45th Anniversary of the premiere of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE! This film is a 1979 American science fiction drama directed by Robert Wise. It is based on and stars the cast of the 1966–1969 television series Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry, who serves as producer. In the film, set in the 2270s, a mysterious and powerful alien cloud known as V'Ger approaches Earth, destroying everything in its path. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) assumes command of the recently refitted Starship Enterprise to lead it on a mission to determine V'Ger's origins and save the planet. Assisting Curtis in this endeavor in an exclusive interview is DAVID GAUTREAUX, the actor perhaps best known for work he never did – the role of Vulcan science officer Xon in the proposed Star Trek: Phase II television series. When the series was aborted, he was given the role of Commander Branch in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. David has also guest-starred in numerous television series including Man From Atlantis, Search for Tomorrow, One Life to Live, T. J. Hooker, L.A. Law, ER, Rules of Engagement, Boston Legal, and The Beast. He played recurring roles on Franklin & Bash, Damages, and the latest incarnation of S.W.A.T. In this interview, David discusses with Curtis about his career in and out of Star Trek, complete with several nuggets of minutia and obscurity which you'll only hear right here on RetroZest! Tread Perilously enters Ampersand Month: five shows with a stylized "and" in the middle of the title. And it all begins with an episode of Franklin & Bash called "Control." When Franklin & Bash are brought in to find a legal remedy for a heckler at a minor league baseball field, they soon discover there is more to this than a bad comedian getting his kicks at a would-be star pitcher. Meanwhile, Damien signs up to be a retiring judge's partner at a golf tournament in hopes of replacing him on the bench and Rachel tries a bull semen case for her brother. Justin declares Franklin & Bash "shockingly not terrible" as Erik attempts to place it in a context of easy TV viewing. Both have a hard time recalling details of the A-plot. Justin evaluates stars Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. A surprise Reed Diamond appears. Heather Locklear proves to be a trooper. The presence of Malcolm McDowell and Buck Henry prove to be both welcome and, unlike the main plot, memorable. Erik recalls his best time at a baseball stadium. Geography Corner centers on the supposed office of Franklin & Bash. The word "loquat" becomes distracting and the resolution to the A-plot leads to another possible Tread Perilously room character.
We had a great conversation with Actress Colleen Foy on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about so many things from family, acting, sacrifices, she told some amazing stories especially about her first moving to LA. This episode got a little emotional and you will see. Colleen was amazing!Actress Colleen Foy is featured opposite Ana de Armas, Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody and Julianne Nicholson in the Netflix, 2022 feature film Blonde, writer/director Andrew Dominik's fictionalized chronicle of the life of Marilyn Monroe. In this eagerly awaited film, produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, she plays a psychiatric nurse who takes care of Marilyn's mother. Colleen is perhaps best known for her multi-season arc as Inara, on the Shondaland / ABC series Station 19, who survived a violent marriage and began a relationship with the firefighter who rescued her. Colleen grew up in a family of social workers in Milwaukee and loved hearing stories about her paternal great grandparents, who were touring vaudevillians. She graduated from Dominican High School, where she performed in every play and musical the school produced. Her personal highlight was the female lead in a production of The Little Shop of Horrors. She earned her degree in Theatre Studies at Marquette University, in her hometown. A seminal moment for Colleen occurred at Marquette when a friend – the first Deaf student at the university – wrote Quid Pro Quo, a play that is totally performed in American Sign Language and voiced by off-stage actors. The show won the prestigious American College Theatre festival and Colleen performed it at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Newly proficient in ASL, Colleen's first professional acting job post-college was a year long tour with the National Theatre of the Deaf. The only hearing actor in the company, Colleen played Alice in their adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Their performance caught the attention of the producers of Sesame Street, who hired Colleen and her castmates to film multiple segments teaching the “Sign Language Word of the Day” for their huge national audience. Within the first year of moving to Los Angeles, Colleen made her feature film debut in director Paul Thomas Anderson's acclaimed drama There Will Be Blood, in which she played the adult Mary Sunday opposite Daniel Day Lewis's Daniel Plainview character. In television animation, Colleen co-starred in the Ever After High series, playing Holly O'Hair, the daughter of Rapunzel. Additional television series credits include 9-1-1: Lonestar, Bones, Castle, Franklin & Bash, Code Black, Cold Case, The Client List, Criminal Minds, Tacoma FD, and she has recurred on The Bold and the Beautiful, Sundance's This Close, and CBS All Access' Strange Angel.

Best known to audiences as T-Dog in the world of The Walking Dead and as the menacing thug Alton in the 2010 Academy® Award-nominated film The Blind Side, IronE Singleton's ability to play strong, multidimensional characters has made him a memorable actor in both film and television. Singleton most recently appeared on the big screen alongside Bow Wow and Ice Cube in Lottery Ticket. In 2011, he will be seen alongside Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce and January Jones in the feature film The Hungry Rabbit Jumps. Singleton's talent has been on display recently in several television pilots, including ABC's “Detroit 1-8-7,” VH1′s “Single Ladies,” and TNT's “Franklin & Bash.” Among his other television credits are CW's “One Tree Hill” and BET's “Somebodies.” Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Singleton's story embodies everything we have come to understand about the lives of many inner city youth growing up in low-income housing projects. Having lost his mother to HIV/AIDS when he was a senior in high school, and watching his brother spend most of his life in Georgia's prison system, IronE fought to have a life far different from the one he knew growing up. The “irony” of his story is that, while all the odds were stacked against him, IronE Singleton still overcame his troubled childhood to attend the University of Georgia on academic and football scholarships, where he completed a double major in Theater and Speech Communications. Prior to breaking into film and television, Singleton put on a one-man theater show entitled IronE… The Resurrected, which garnered rave reviews. In this episode, I am lucky enough to get to chat with the very talented director/producer Jason Ensler. As a kid, Jason thought about becoming a rabbi or a dentist, but luckily for those of us who are big fans of his work, he found his way into entertainment. Jason has an impressive roster of credits:"The West Wing," "Franklin and Bash," Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl," "Chuck," "Andy Barker PI," "Scrubs," "My Name Is Earl," "Martha Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart," just to name a few. We talk about everything from his extensive knowledge of "Three's Company" to working with Donald Sutherland to how "The Conformist" inspired his work on "Gossip Girl." JASON ENSLER'S BIO Jason Ensler (born July 21, 1970) is an American film {and} television director and producer. He directed and executive produced the pilots for "Cult," "Hart of Dixie," "Franklin & Bash," and served as Executive Producer and Director for the first two seasons of "Franklin & Bash." He also directed the CBS pilot, "The Eastmans," with Donald Sutherland and Jacqueline Bisset. And the pilots for "Southbeach," "Man of Your Dreams," and "Kath & Kim." He directed and produced the pilot and all six episodes of the critically acclaimed and short-lived series "Andy Barker, P.I." starring Andy Richter and Tony Hale, and created by Conan O'Brien and Jonathan Groff. He has directed episodes of "The West Wing," "Chuck," "Gossip Girl," "Psych," "Ed," "Scrubs" and "My Name Is Earl." He also directed the NBC television films "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three's Company" and "Martha, Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart" starring Cybill Shepherd as Martha Stewart. In 2007, Ensler produced and directed the short documentary, Farewell My Subaru, a study of author Doug Fine's adventures becoming Carbon Neutral in rural New Mexico. Ensler studied Politics and Theater at Brandeis University and Film/Television at USC Film School.
In this episode, I get to chat with one of my favorite friends and a super talented and funny actress, Mircea Monroe. Mircea currently can be seen on the small screen on EPISODES on Showtime with Matt LeBlanc and on the big screen in MAGIC MIKE. Mircea shares her story of breaking into acting and talks about everything from being eaten by a Pterodactyl to pantsless Skype meetings to working with legendary comedy writer Bill Lawrence. MIRCEA MONROE'S BIO You would never guess, but this whitey was raised in the Solomon Islands and Fiji (she’s exotic you guys). Monroe has quickly become one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars and has done it without sleeping around! Mircea first showcased her acting skills in the theatre, but quickly moved on to the big and small screens where she has proven to be as versatile as she is beautiful (blah blah), having earned starring roles in comedies, dramas, action, and genre pictures. She prefers comedy, but loves a good cry as well. Monroe is just as recognizable on the small screen, having starred on Fox’s high-octane series “Drive.” She has also starred in eight other pilots that were not picked up, which sucked because she was ready for stability and fame in the midwest. In addition are a kazillion guest-star appearances including “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Scrubs,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Without a Trace,” “Rules of Engagement,” “Chuck,” “Franklin & Bash” and numerous sketches on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and now “Conan.” These were great because they pay well (with the exception of “Conan”). Monroe is currently a series regular on Showtime’s critically acclaimed comedy series “EPISODES” created by David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik, starring opposite Matt LeBlanc. David created “Friends” so if he and Jeffrey hired her, then she’s validated as a human being. She also recurs on the CW's super cute show "Hart of Dixie." It's awesome except because it's AFTRA, it doesn't contribute to her health insurance plan which means you may see her at the free clinic from time to time. Monroe currently lives in Los Angeles but hopes to move as soon as she can. Her twitter name is @missmircea. Please don't send her pics of your penis (you know who you are).
