In June 2018, Tristan Beaudette and his brother-in-law Scott McCurdy had left their wives in Orange County to embark on a final camping trip together before Tristan and his wife Erica relocated to the Bay Area. Their home for the night …Malibu Creek State Park, near beautiful Malibu Beach. After a night by the campfire, Beaudette and McCurdy went to their respective tents and settled in for bed. Already asleep inside the separate tents were their most treasured possessions: Scott's two boys, ages 3 and 5 and Tristan's daughters, 2 and 4. Sometime after 1 in the morning on June 22, 2018, Scott was awakened by what he thought were fireworks. Then he heard Tristan's daughters crying. Scott told his boys to stay put while he went to Tristan's tent to investigate. There, he saw Tristan lying face down in the center of the tent and his daughters huddled together, crying. Tristan's face was covered in blood. Given Malibu's reputation as a safe beach town, nobody believed Tristan's murder was a random act of violence. The community was shocked after an arrest was made and law enforcement alleged there was a monster in the Malibu Hills killing indiscriminately. Tonight's guests are Harold Dunnigan and Duncan Smith. Harold was born on Oct. 11, 1930, in Fall River, Massachusetts, and was raised in Santa Monica, California. He enjoyed surfing at Malibu Beach alongside surfing heroes Buzzy Trent, Matt Kivlin, and Peter Cole, then later became Santa Monica Lifeguard. In 1950, he joined the Navy and graduated from UDTR/A class 6 — for you young bucks, that's BUD/S class 6. Harold would serve during the Korean War with UDT-1 and after the war enrolled in the UDT/SEAL reserve program. He would remain there for many years, including being recalled to active duty as an elderly SEAL during the Gulf War in the 1990s. He used to crush guys in PT and even participated in two water training jumps at the age of 60. Harold is also an avid reader and felt it was important to be well-read. He's mentored many children and young adults as a school administrator and lifeguard. Some of Harold's students went on to create the famous Baywatch series as well as the movie Predator. Duncan served more than 30 years in the SEAL Teams before retiring as a captain. Duncan is instrumental in bringing Harold's story to this podcast as it took much convincing to get Harold to open up about his time in the Navy. While we mostly focus on Harold's life story, Duncan adds great points throughout the conversation, including discussing an interesting book tradition that's developed into a prized memento. At the end of the show, Duncan shares his important work with the SEAL Family Foundation and what they do to support SEALs and their families. Here is Episode 29 with Harold Dunnigan and Duncan Smith.

David Lloyd Glover, a former newspaper illustrator who has worked as a full-time artist since 1969, created the auto museum artwork in the showrooms of vehicles and architecture in the Newport Car Museum. A week after Gunther Buerman, visionary and founder of the museum was our guest on The Weekly Driver Podcast, Lloyd Glover joined the podcast to discuss his collaborations with the auto museum. A long-time vintage car collector, Lloyd Glover works often with translucent watercolors using the classic British technique. His work has been featured in numerous galleries in the United States and internationally. He works in a studio in Pacific Palisades in Southern California overlooking Malibu Beach. David Lloyd Glover is known for his oversized creations including many examples on display at the Newport Auto Museum. With the museum's specialty of mixing automobiles with architecture and art, Lloyd Glover was the ideal artist to add his creativity as a complement to the 85 vehicles on display. Auto museum in Rhode Island features cars and art Co-host Bruce Aldrich is on vacation this week, so I interview the artist about his long career, his interest in vintage cars and his work with the Newport Car Museum. "People who love automotive art generally are people who can't afford the real thing," says Lloyd Glover. "The car I have created as a piece of art, say it's a Cobra or a Ferrari, or whatever, it's certainly out of everyone's grasp, especially these days." Often described as a “vivid impressionist painter,” Lloyd Glover's work at the auto museum helps better tell the story of eight decades of automotive design and history. David Lloyd Glover has many examples of auto museum artwork at the Newport Car Museum in Rhode Island. "I started being a car nut back in the 1960s," he says. "In those days, a decent sports car was actually very affordable. I started collecting when I was very young. I got in with another collector friend of mine who happened to have a full auto shop, so that helped. Auto Museum: What was once cheap, now isn't "We would buy sports cars inexpensively, which would include Mustangs and Chevelles, cars that were performance cars and muscle cars. They were inexpensive in those days; they are not anymore." Lloyd Glover, who was contacted by Buerman, is known for his oversized works, some as large as 10' X 20'. Additional examples at the Newport Car Museum, include the Fin Car Gallery's “Marilyn (Monroe) and Joe (DiMaggio)” placed behind a bright-red 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible located in the Corvette Gallery's powerful C6-R in race mode." Please join me for an entertaining podcast episode as the renowned artist details his art career, including one of his combined passions of automobiles and automotive art offered in the famous auto museum located just outside of Newport, R.I. I've been a choir boy and a lawyer, a construction labourer and house designer, a recidivist husband and a single time father. But it was another state in life that brought me notoriety – and wealth – a prisoner. At 17 in 1969, I was arrested for selling hash and LSD to cops dressed up like hippies. And forty years later, I was arrested again for co-founding and operating a business that, the year I was arrested, was tracking to transfer over $14billion dollars, mostly American, between online gamblers and internet bookies and casinos. For the first notorious experience, I was immersed in a world-changing culture, on the cusp between respecting all authority, all elders on the one hand, and only respecting who we thought deserved it on the other, between taking things for granted and finding out for oneself. We had sock hopped to the Beach Boys and wound up raging around the fire to “Ooh a storm is threatening my very life today” showing our elders they had a new batch of young to respect. For the second, I was sinking dishearteningly in meaningless legal files, struggling to get to some peaceful shore and to get back to net-worth zero, when the material pearly gates busted wide open for me. When we went public, I owned about a quarter of a company whose market capital went up to $2 billion. I was buying private jets and Malibu Beach houses without having to check my balance. I would get up in the morning, decide to fly to Ireland in my jet to see my daughter, and was flying through the aurora borealis over Iceland by nightfall. I was introduced to David Suzuki and the rapidly mounting climate emergency by my friend Jim Hoggan, and to His Holiness the Dalai Lama by my friend Victor Chan. Jim and I co-founded the DeSmog group of blogs, “Cleaning up the PR pollution that clouds climate science.” I remain a committee member of the David Suzuki Foundation and a founding director of the David Suzuki Institute. I was founding funder of the Dalai Lama centre for Peace And Education in Vancouver. And I decided to devote the remainder of my time here on Earth to encouraging environmental awareness, consciousness generally, and to the appreciation of the boundless miracle that has befallen all of us humans but, that toward which, so few of us barely even glance while immersed in our “world” of acquisition for the main purpose of self-indulgent leisure.

Lance originally from a Malibu adjacent area was part of a small crew of youngsters in the late 80's into the 90's that perhaps due to their geographical location were influenced by a crew of older longboarders that never quit longboarding during the decline of the use of longboard surfboards and the style of surfing that comes with it.That small elite crew of new longboarders from Malibu Beach took upon themselves the continuing of the longboarding discipline art form of surfing and integrating aspects of the modern approach of surfing and board design. This episode is full of great memories, anecdotes, perspectives and surfing history dating back to the 80's.I hope you longboard heads enjoy!Hablamos Broki!Tupi Cabrera

Also kameratechnisch.

Malibu Beach was the last EM bingo that Bally produced, and the final Magic Screen game. This game has exactly the same feature set as Laguna Beach (produced twenty years earlier!). Rumor has it that Nevada asked for a rerun of Laguna Beach to put in the casinos in 1980, and Bally would not agree to reproduce the earlier title. Instead, they agreed to make an entirely new title with the same features. Nevada changed their mind after Bally went to the trouble of producing the games... and as such, "somehow", the games got out into the world. It seems to be a fairly common game for home collectors, as I've seen several. Backglass: Cabinet: Playfield: http://bingo.cdyn.com/machines/bally/malibu_beach/resources/pf-malibu_beach-1.jpg
