The Psychology of Self-Injury: Exploring Self-Harm & Mental Health
In this episode, Ellie from the United Kingdom and National Health Service (NHS) shares her lived experience of atypical severe self-injury while participating in a psychiatric inpatient stay for an acute increase in severity of eating disorder symptoms. She discusses how she has used her experiences as a patient and recipient of mental healthcare in the UK to bring about systemic change, participate as a co-producer and research, and advocate for those with lived experience of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and self-harm. While participating in our interview while in inpatient care, we invite her live-in care provider (i.e., carer), Shami, to join our conversation and offer her own insights.Connect with Ellie on LinkedIn here and on Twitter/X @EllieWildbore or @elliewildbore.bsky.social. "Family Office" recruiting is one of the most difficult subsets of wealth management. Loaded with mystery and allure, many wealthy families want to "have" a family office. It's a different story when the family has to determine the ROI of the project, lay out the costs and, ultimately, staff one. This is actual work. Family offices are expensive and require deep strategic thought and long term purpose and budgeting by the family. As we will learn here, family offices call for the identification, acquisition, and support of talent that is not readily available. This new talent can also be risky. A new structure with new people subjects large amounts of personal wealth to the domain of outsiders and public risk. Failure is often embarrassing (and expensive). https://open.spotify.com/episode/5IBc5iTzMNHHSoQqp8Ufhe?si=PUFi51DIR361WrnlEoJyRQ I went to a source with a unique viewpoint. BRIAN C. Today, it is my pleasure to speak with Ned Rollhaus and Luke Jernagan of Matter Family Office, a purpose-driven multi-family office firm serving multigenerational families of wealth. Ned is a Partner at Matter and sees himself as a thought partner, coach, and facilitator for families at every stage of their wealth journey, dedicated to helping them navigate the complexities and responsibilities of wealth over multiple generations. Luke is the Director of Family Learning at Matter, and in that capacity, he works with families to strengthen their relationships, communicate effectively, and identify what matters most to them, so they can thrive as individuals and together. In their work with families, especially as they evolve from being G1- or founder-led to involving broader groups of owners across generations, Ned and Luke have seen an emerging trend toward what they refer to as “hybrid” family offices – as in a hybrid between a single-family office (SFO) and a multi-family office (MFO). They share their definition of a hybrid FO, describe how this emerging model works, and go over the benefits of a Hybrid FO and the reasons why families are increasingly gravitating toward this model. Ned and Luke then offer some practical considerations and tips for family principals and leaders who are considering a hybrid FO, highlighting the situations in which owners should consider this structure and the factors they should be aware of and/or watch out for. They also offer suggestions and recommendations for FO executives who may have to evaluate this hybrid FO model, select the external MFO partners, and determine what services should be provided on which side of the hybrid divide, as well as what role they should play as FO executives in this model. Don't miss this instructive conversation with two of the foremost thinkers and practitioners in the MFO space and the purposeful planning movement.
Wooded properties are common in the Highlands, but I bet many people don't know a lot about what's growing on their land or how to care for it. To be fair, we don't have many opportunities to learn, and ecological blind spots are common. When I moved to a forested site 14 years ago, after living for decades in cities, I couldn't identify more than a few grasses and flowers. Wanting to be a responsible steward, I became a Master Gardener volunteer through Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County. In 2021, I also completed CCE's Master Forest Owner training. The point of the MFO program is for volunteers to visit woodland owners and point them to resources to meet whatever goals they have for the land, says Shane Stevens, the CCE regional director for our area. It started in 1991 because Cornell University recognized that private landowners have a huge impact on the environment. Of the 20 million acres of forest in New York state, 75 percent is privately owned. "The decisions made about those acres are key to sustaining biodiversity and keeping forests healthy and resilient to natural disasters and pests," Stevens says. There are 140 Master Forest Owner volunteers across the state, and they have joined for many reasons. Angela Attia, who lives in Philipstown, completed the training in 2022. "I was interested in gardening and started learning about native plants," she says. "Then I wanted to understand how to better support the forest on our land. Through volunteering, I can disseminate the information and help others." Greg Clarke, who lives near Pawling and has been a volunteer for 15 years, says that peer-to-peer learning is a key to the program's success. "When you go out into the field, there's credibility in meeting with someone who is dealing with the same challenges." Clarke primarily visits sites in Dutchess County, where woodland owners tend to have larger tracts of land than people do in Putnam and logging is a source of income. Janis Butler, who has been a volunteer since 2018 and lives in Mahopac, said that in her experience, people are concerned about making their properties beneficial for wildlife and habitat. She also came to the program from a personal interest in managing her forest. "There are global consequences to the choices we make about our lands," she says, adding that she's developed a greater appreciation through her site visits for the incredible amount of beautiful property in our area. All agree, and I concur, that invasive-species management is the topic that every landowner brings up during visits. These are tough plants and pests to deal with and they are impacting forest health in every way. Deer are another big part of the picture. Their presence determines what grows and if trees can regenerate. Unless you know what is missing in a forest ecosystem, you might not even know what role it plays. For anyone interested in becoming a Master Forest Owner volunteer, the application deadline for the next training is March 19. See blogs.cornell.edu. It includes topics such as understanding what makes a healthy woodland, earning income from trees through timber harvesting or food production, and how to access state and regional resources. The training can be completed online. Volunteers can also attend field training and webinars and workshops that cover the latest research on tree diseases, invasive species and the safe use of chain saws, for example. I get a steady stream of emails from CCE. To request a site visit from a MFO volunteer, visit blogs.cornell.edu/ccemfo.
The CORPORATE TRANSPARENCY ACT is less than a month away from going live and the wealth management industry doesn't seem to be too worried about it. That worries me because it affects at least 32 million entities according to FinCen- including most small businesses in this country. States like New York may be enacting laws to mirror the disclosure requirements at the state level. Non-compliance is expensive and could lead to jail. How to manage these reporting responsibilities is going to be a big issue in the wealth space. I covered the general framework in June with attorney Stephen Liss here: EPISODE 134. Today, we're going to speak with friend of the podcast, JOHN WILLIAMS on the CTA and 2024. He is the President of the Williams Law Firm in Delaware and President of INCNOW.COM, a corporate formation firm. We're going to talk about taking on this responsibility as an advisor and what businesses (big and small) might expect in 2024 and beyond with this new mandate. Corporate Transparency Act- A Quick Review 1) Whom does it apply to and how big is this lift? 2) What needs to be reported? Do we know how at this point?3) By whom exactly? Client? Advisor? Paralegal?4) What is the timing for reporting? How long do you have to report changes? Can you correct mistakes?5) What are the penalties for getting this wrong? For Advisers, RIA's, Lawyers, CPA's and MFO's 6) How much time should compliance take? Who is responsible? Simple ownership (90min) vs complex ownership Change in ownership If something goes wrong, who is liable (i.e. who goes to jail)? Paralegal liability 7) What are best practices for compliance? For clients? For advisors suggesting entities? For Administrators? 8) Who should be in this business? Headcount? Is there liability insurance for advisors/admins? Are Law firms ready for this? RIA's and MFO's? CPA's looking to "help"? 9) What is a realistic cost for this? Especially given ongoing service and liability? Will clients understand what they are paying for and why? Can this be AI'ed away? 10) How are you thinking about it (for your business)? Is it a profit center? Is this for the "Faint of heart" or the tourist? Is there a danger in treating this as an accommodation? 11) Practical questions- Who is a control officer? senior officers / directors / others (trustees)? An incorporator? Series LLC's = multiple reports? Information sharing between FINCEN, IRS, DOJ others? Is Privacy over? Should everyone get a FINCEN number? Are we entering a new era of corporate governance and record keeping for clients and their businesses? (I.e. is corporate governance going to be a "real thing" going forward?) In this episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Leslie Voth, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer & President of Pitcairn. Leslie has been with Pitcairn for 30 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles, and is the first chairman of the board who is not part of the Pitcairn family. She is a prominent senior executive and thought leader in the multifamily-office (MFO) industry. Leslie shares the story of Pitcairn, which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary, and its evolution from a firm initially established to serve the needs of one family to its status today as a premier player in the fast-evolving MFO space. We discuss the factors that enabled Pitcairn's continued presence and enduring relevance as a top MFO, and Leslie offers her thoughts on the on the formula for MFO longevity and enduring success. As the MFO model continues to gain popularity among private wealth clients and companies in this space experience growing interest from families, Leslie offers her perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by many firms established in this segment as well as those that are transitioning into the MFO model. We talk about growing and developing scarce human capital, building a sustainable and profitable business model and pricing structures, and nurturing an ecosystem of specialized and reputable partners to meet the increasingly complex and niche needs of enterprise families. Leslie and I also discuss what families need to know and what parameters to evaluate as many of them consider whether to build their own single-family office or outsource their service needs to an established and capable MFO. Please enjoy this illuminating conversation with one of the most distinguished CEOs in our industry, who is successfully leading one of the most storied MFO brands into its second century of success and prominence.

Mowa bowiem o eksporcie polskiej stolarki do Stanów Zjednoczonych, a ten w sezonie 2022 wręcz eksplodował!
To oczywiście w ramach cyklu Stoll Street.

Walter Zornek & Vicki Kormesch

Exercise and caloric restriction are a proven combination to reduce scale weight. The real key, however, is to reduce excess body fat - subcutaneous (under the skin), visceral (around vital organs), and ectopic (within the organs). From an exercise perspective, it's all about frequency, intensity, and time - the "fit principle." Of the three variables, the appropriate intensity to optimize fat max - maximal fat burning - requires testing or the use of heart rate percentages that estimate fat max. When exercising, the primary energy sources are derived from a percentage of fat and carbohydrate - depending on the intensity of exercise. The higher intensity the less fat is used and vice versa. The fat max zone can be determined via a VO2 Max test correlated to a percentage of maximum heart rate. The V stands for volume, and the O2 is the chemical formula for oxygen we breathe. Your VO2 at the stage of maximal exertion is called your maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). The test is usually performed in a laboratory by a trained medical professional. The VO2 Max test measures milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight (1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds) used per minute. By measuring VO2 max relative to body weight, we are able to determine endurance and stamina levels. Then, we can relate this to a heart rate at any point during the test. For max heart rate (HRmax) determination, the age-predicted HRmax formula used by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is 220-age.According to research - "Fat Oxidation Rate As a Function of Plasma Lipid and Hormone Response in Endurance Athletes" - which appeared in the January 2020 issue of theJournal of Strength and Conditioning Research, "the regulation of adipose (fat) tissue lipolysis (breakdown) and the release of FFAs (free fatty acids) from adipose tissue to the muscle is an important route of control for fat oxidation (burning)."Researchers from Spain sought to investigate, "the relationship among fat oxidation rate, plasma lipids (total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL good cholesterol, and LDL bad cholesterol), and hormone concentrations (adrenaline, noradrenaline, catecholamine, insulin) in well-trained athletes."The Spanish investigators recruited twenty-six trained triathletes, who completed a graded stationary cycle test to exhaustion - increasing the intensity every 10 minutes. Fat oxidation rates were determined using the indirect calorimetry method. Each individual's maximal fat oxidation (MFO) rate - the intensity at which MFO occurred (fat max), and the intensity at which fat oxidation became minimal (fat min) were determined. Blood samples for lipid and hormone analysis were collected at the end of each stage of the graded exercise test.It was determined that the fat oxidation rate became significant at 60% of VO2 max or 75% of HRmax, while maximizing at 70% of VO2 max or roughly 80% HRmax. As an individual reaches their VO2 max, they approach their HRmax. From a lipid and hormone perspective, the researchers determined that, "low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) decreased and showed lowest levels at 60%VO2max and reaching significant increases after 80%VO2max. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) reached significant increase at 60%VO2max. Adrenaline and noradrenaline increased until the end of the incremental exercise, and significant differences were from 50%VO2max."The take-away message is that fat burns in the flame of oxygen at roughly 70-80% HRmax. From my experience, I have found the lower end of the range starts at 55% of HRmax.Subtract your age from 220. Then take 55 and 80% for your lower and upper fat max training zone - ideally staying closer 70%, as the higher number. To read the rest, and for more information and research-based nutritional products made in the USA, visit maxwellnutrition.com.

Abstract: Knowing protein function is crucial to advance molecular and medical biology, yet experimental function annotations through the Gene Ontology (GO) exist for fewer than 0.5% of all known proteins. Computational methods bridge this sequence-annotation gap typically through homology-based annotation transfer by identifying sequence-similar proteins with known function or through prediction methods using evolutionary information. Here, we proposed predicting GO terms through annotation transfer based on proximity of proteins in the SeqVec embedding rather than in sequence space. These embeddings originated from deep learned language models (LMs) for protein sequences (SeqVec) transferring the knowledge gained from predicting the next amino acid in 250 million protein sequences. Replicating the conditions of CAFA3, our method reached an Fmax of 37{+/-} 2%, 50{+/-} 3%, and 57{+/-} 2% for BPO, MFO, and CCO, respectively. This was numerically close to the top ten methods that had participated in CAFA3. Restricting the annotation transfer to proteins with

Hey look, the boys are back! We've got a few little topics to cover and one big one! We've got postponed Dreamhack events, Godzilla lands, Hasbro making face shields for medical personnel, an unfortunate young MFO player, and a teaser about the new Historic Anthology for Arena. But the BIG news this week come from the innocently-named article, Sunsetting Planeswalker Points. What this article says is that you have until just before the end of May to check out your match history on the Planeswalker Points website before it DISAPPEARS FOREVER. So that's nice, just deleting the entire paper history of Magic forever. We'll go into more of the nuances of this whole thing in the episode of course. But needless to say, this is a really crappy way to handle this sort of thing. Detailing standard tiers and what to play in the MFO this weekend
Come join us as we launch our first ever MFO radio station. Unlike the Sports podcast this platform is more about music and less talking, and the talking we do have is about music or entertainment with 5 min breaks in between music. So if you miss the days of feeling excited about listening to the radio this is the place for you. Every episode we have underground unsigned artist from CT and across the country as well as hip hop from the south west coast and mid west. No bias here, you will here nothing but heat from every region. Come join us while your at home, I promise you wont be disappinted. Today we highlight NYC rap and do a No Limit vs Cashmoney battle in honor of my New Orleans Co host Shawn Mac. We have some banging R&B and like we said some dope local artist. Lets get this thing started.
Richard C. Wison speaks on setting up a virtual family office and what you should be thinking instead of: "Do I need an SFO or and MFO well, I'm only worth 15 million or 25 million. I'm not a family office type individual, so I can't really consider that path." The option is to create a virtual family office. What alot of people overlook is that many people who are very experienced in dealing with $100 million+ families will still work with you at 15 to 25 million on a carved-out basis/ an ad hoc basis. When you need their help or on a unique basis, it's different than becoming a full-fledged client with him. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you want to leverage the tens of millions and overhead that private banks for wealth management firms have. You can access some of their managers that have been fully due diligence to access some of their strategies and connections by the thousands of employees and do so on an ad hoc basis.
On December 12, 2019, a new Gander Memorial was dedicated at Fort Campbell on the 34th anniversary of the Gander crash. It was the worst loss of life in a single day in the Division's history. In this episode, Dr. O'Brien and CPT Herbster discuss the historical background of the 256 Gander fallen and the significance of the new memorial next to the Pratt Museum. Show notes: -The name of the Canadian teenager who raised money for memorial trees is Janice Nikkel. -The US contingent for the MFO is now provided by National Guard units.

I’m going to the Mike Ferry event in Vegas next month and I would love to connect with all of you other Mike Ferry agents out there. Hello to all of my Mike Ferry friends out there. Throughout my career, Mike has helped me not only gain the knowledge, but the professionalism and ability to list a $7.5 million home here on the oceanfront. If you’re going to be at the Mike Ferry event in July at the Venetian, let’s connect. I’ve been blessed to connect with MFO agents and was able to refer eight clients. I’m looking to send more and get more referrals, have more accountability, and build more relationships. What are you excited about learning at the event? I would love for you to reach out and let me know. Just give me a call or send me an email today. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Your mind knows no difference between Focused Imagination and reality. I can prove it right now. Join me!When I was in the 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Sinai Egypt for the Multination Forces and Observers (MFO) mission, I was one of four team captains from the 3-504th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), 82nd ABN DIV, of this annual competition call the Force Skills Competition (FSC). FSC was a 3 day event that ranged from written exams to driving skills, shooting skills and a very intense obstacle course with equipment. For the last 14 years, Fiji Battalion won the competition hands down. This year, Colonel David Petraeus, our Brigade Commander at the time, was dead set on the 82nd ABD DIV winning this competition this year for the USA. So he ensure our teams had plenty of time to practice and study. But he didn't stop there. COL Petraeus and our Battalion Commander, knew the power of visualization. They new the mind knew no difference between focused imagination and reality. This has been proven in many with http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/11/mind-hacks-from-olympic-a_n_4747755.html (olympians) and other parts of our daily lives. So, our command team brought in a visualization expert. And thinking back to that week in 1996, I would like to say that man was Anthony "Tony" Robins, but I can't be sure. I do know Tony specializes in visualization technics. Anyway, this man walked us through a visualization program that put our minds in the event for the following day, or later that day. For instance, if we were going to be on the firing range after an eight mile run, he would walk us through the process from beginning to end. It would sound something like this. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="257"]https://menofabundance.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/MFO.jpg () Soldier firing weapon.[/caption]See yourself approaching the firing line with your weapon. You're breathing hard from the run and sweat is dripping in your eyes as you prepare yourself for the next event. You lay your pack down next to you and get into the prone position with your weapon. You see your target. Your goal is to get 6 shots into the center of the target. As you lay in the dirt and gravel, you feel the rocks pressing into your elbows as you ready your weapon. You wipe the sweat from your face just before you take aim through the sites of your weapon. As you take aim you focus on your breathing, trigger finger, and the target. Nothing else matters at this point. You see the front site of your rifle move up and down over the target with ever breath you take as you steady your aim. You feel the tip of your finger on the trigger. Just before you're ready to take the shot you stop breathing for just a second and squeeze the trigger until KAPLOW. You hear and feel the first shot leave the weapon and you see the first round has pierced the target exactly where you wanted it.You re-FOCUS for the next shot. All you're thinking about and paying attention to right now is your breathing, your trigger finger and your target. Take a few breaths to steady your breathing. Just 5 more shot's just like that...Wow, as I'm typing this out, my palms are sweating, my heart rate went up and my hands are shaking just slightly. I have to take a short beach break. BRB. Ah, that's better. I'm back, and I think you get the point. So what does all of this mean to you? Well, as I said in the video, you control parts of your daily activities and even your entire life with visualization rather you believe in it or not. When you wake up in the morning, you control your mood and thus your day. If you wake up in a bad mood, chances are it's because of events from the day prior or even a dream you had. Yes, your dreams can set the tone of your day. Has your wife ever woken up and asked you, have you or would you ever sleep with my sister? You're first thought might be, what the hell is wrong with you woman? But you don't say that. Well, I hope you... Support this podcast
Marcel Weber better know as MFO is a renowned German lighting and visual artist. Marcel has been creating and directing audiovisual performances, installations, and video works since 2001. His work has a very distinctive aesthetic concerned with memory and perception, it highlights the architectural elements of performance spaces with powerful experimental visual narratives juxtaposing the work of some of the world’s most renowned electronic musicians. Marcel work lays between the analog and the digital. Employing old media like projectors, film, and lenses, against digital compositions and generative software. Some of the artists he has collaborated with include Kara-Lis Coverdale, Tim Hecker (Ephemera), Ben Frost (Aurora Tour), and Kode9 (Her ghost, homage to Chris Maker's la Jeté). Last year saw light his collaboration with Rolly Porter for the latest new show Third Law, inspired by solitary iced landscapes and which culminated in a blinding strobe crescendo. During Unsound he managed to find some free time in his busy schedule to chat with us just before the weekend got crazy - he is also the lighting designer for the whole festival, something he has been doing since almost the very beginnings of the festival. Sitting outside bar Alchemia in Krakow’s lively Kazimierz Jewish quarter, we had time to go through his work and creative process and why his artistic practices take much on the crossover with technology and science. After Unsound we caught up again with Marcel in Berlin, where he told us about his many coming new projects: a collaboration with Liz Harris, aka Grouper, which took them to remote Siberian lands and they will be presenting in this year’s edition of Unsound krakow, a new our and other surprising projects...and it looks like a busy year ahead for Marcel. This podcast was produced by CLOT Magazine editorial team and Stephen Mclaughlin for Unsound Festival in Collaboration with OFF Radio Krakow.
