Interview with Jerid O'Connell of The Rousers. The Rousers were formed in 1977 in New York CIty by Jeff Buckland (vocals), Bill Dickson (rhythm guitar), John Hannah (bass), Tom Milmore (lead guitar) and Jerid O'Connell (drums). They auditioned at CBGB, where they were noticed by famed Max's Kansas City booker Peter Crowley. The Rousers genial "Rhythm and Twang" sound soon earned them a following, and the band performed all around the New York area, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Boston. The Rousers released a single in 1981 on Jimboco Records of "Party Boy" and "Don't Let the Band Stop Playing" produced by MC5 legend Wayne Kramer. (An early limited edition included a red FlexiDisc of "Christmas Party".) In 1982 Sal Capozucca and Brett Wilder respectively took over on drums and bass. This lineup continued until 1984. Jeff Buckland left music and went on to a successful career in animation. The other members went on to various other bands (Bill and Brett joined The Backbones, Tom and Sal to Syntax Error, Treasure Head, etc.) and continued to play and record in the New York area. Around 1986, the Praise Jockeys were formed with Bill, Brett, Tom and Sal. The band featured a heavier, riff happy sound. Their "Look at My Face" CD was released in 2021. Bill, Tom and Sal next formed The Mockingbirds with keyboard player Chris Pondish. The Mockingbirds released the CD "Broken Times" in 2021. That band transformed into The Shambles (Bill, Tom, Sal and Rob Noname). Brett continued to play in several bands, including The Vacant Lot. Around 1995 The Rousers began playing as a quartet with Bill on vocals and guitar, Brett on bass, Tom on guitar and Sal on drums. This lineup recorded several songs at Purple Light Studio in Brooklyn which was released as "All the King's Men" in 2021. Brett left to pursue his musical muse, sometimes rejoining The Rousers, but mainly going his own way. The Rousers continued with Bill now on bass and vocals. Henry Kandel was added on saxophone from about 2000-2002. After that, the Rousers recorded and performed as a trio. The band released a CD ("Playing the Rock and Roll For You") in 2012, and an EP in 2018 ("Kickin'"). Matt's back in New York, he's somehow regained his secret identity—don't ask him how, he's very cagey about it—and he's traded the bright red suit for a slicker, darker black one. On top of that, he's now working as a prosecutor for the DA's office. So Daredevil by night, ADA by day… because nothing says “healthy work-life balance” like doubling down on stress.  And for reasons only Matt understands, he decides this is the perfect time to take on a protégé. Enter Blindspot—a kid genius with an invisibility suit, an undocumented immigrant background, and all the ambition (and naïveté) Matt had at his age. Matt trains him, pushes him, and absolutely refuses to admit to anyone that he might be in way over his head as a mentor.  The first big arc is the Tenfingers saga, centered around a cult leader in Chinatown who—yes—literally has ten fingers on each hand. He's stolen power from The Hand, his followers think he's some kind of holy savior, and Blindspot's mother is deep in the cult, which drags the kid into the conflict whether he wants it or not. The whole thing spirals into a massive church showdown that ends with The Hand (and then a giant beast on behalf of the hand) showing up to wipe Tenfingers off the map. Blindspot is injured, but he gets a harsh lesson in what Daredevil's world really looks like.  Following that we get a two-issue story “Elektric Connections” with the return of Elektra. First she shows up in Matt's courtroom during trial, then asks to meet Daredevil. When she does, she attacks him. Blindspot jumps in to try to save Daredevil, but Elektra breaks his arm. Elektra's convinced she has a daughter who's gone missing and that Daredevil is involved. Turns out it was a trick and after finally convincing her the “evidence” she was given wasn't real, she approaches the man who gave it to her. He breaks the planted memories with the phrase “The tangled web we weave!”. Elektra is relieved she won't be corrupting a child but very angry at the person who deceived her.   Then we get the “Blind Man's Bluff” story arc that feature's a team up with Spider-Man. Matt is posing as a Frenchman, playing Texas Hold 'em in a tournament and intends to rob someone at a Casino in Macau, which is as fun a story as it sounds. This will be our spotlight story for the week.   The year ends with the start of a terrifying “Dark Art” story that starts with the discovery of a full wall mural made from human blood. STORY 2: Suwanee’s new ‘Bookshelf’: A mural that lets you judge a wall by its cover A bold new mural now greets visitors at Suwanee’s Town Center on Main, and it’s a stunner. Titled “Bookshelf,” the piece was created by renowned artist Pat Perry, whose jaw-dropping, photorealistic murals have popped up all over the globe. Back in early 2025, Suwanee put out a call for artists, and nearly 90 submissions poured in. Perry’s work stood out—his knack for blending realism with thoughtful, site-specific designs won over the Suwanee Public Arts Commission (with a little help from the Gwinnett Creativity Fund). Over two and a half weeks, Perry turned the walls outside the Suwanee branch of the Gwinnett Public Library into a vibrant tribute to storytelling. The mural’s placement—right by the pedestrian bridge—was no accident. It ties together the library, the park, and the new Town Center on Main. But here’s the cool part: “Bookshelf” isn’t just a mural. It’s a puzzle for book lovers. Break 3: Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink STORY 6: GCPS sets new calendars, but religious holiday debate lingers Gwinnett County Public Schools just rolled out its calendars for the next two school years, and, well, not everyone’s thrilled. Board member Tarece Johnson-Morgan called it “disappointing” and “non-inclusive,” pointing out that the calendar still leans heavily on Christian holidays while leaving out major ones from other faiths, like Ramadan or Rosh Hashanah. The district says they surveyed families, and most prioritized longer breaks and fewer digital learning days over adding religious holidays. But Johnson-Morgan argues there’s room for a “Yes/And” approach—keeping the current structure while recognizing key non-Christian holidays. It’s a debate that’s not going away anytime soon in one of the nation’s most diverse districts. STORY 7: Gwinnett schools preparing to adopt cell phone ban policy Gwinnett parents, it’s time to weigh in: should cell phones be banned in schools? The school board is considering a new policy—Policy JCDAF—that would ban personal devices like phones, smartwatches, and tablets starting in the 2026-2027 school year. Exceptions? Only for students with medical or learning plans. This isn’t just a local idea. It’s tied to Georgia’s new Distraction-Free Education Act, which requires elementary and middle schools to ban phones by 2026. Gwinnett’s proposal goes further, extending restrictions to high schools. For younger students, the ban would last all day—class, recess, assemblies, everything. High schoolers? They’d get a little more freedom, with phones allowed during lunch. The district says the goal is to cut distractions and reduce bullying, citing studies showing phone bans can lower bullying by nearly 45%. Today, we continue our series on healthy relationships, and we're talking about managing difficult relationships. There's a wonderful scene in the classic film To Kill a Mockingbird, when the attorney Atticus Finch is confronted by the father of a girl who has accused a black man of rape, the father, enraged walks up to Finch, played perfectly by Gregory Peck. He spits in Finch's face as the attorneys' children watch. You can see the anger in Finch's face, but he slowly and calmly maintains his composure. He simply walks past the man, who now looks pretty small in everyone's eyes. God has given us the power over difficult people. It's called not letting them set the rules. 1 Peter 3:9 says, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing because to this you were called, so that you may inherit a blessing.” Not always easy, definitely, but we're capable of it. Remember that. This life is very much about winning and losing. Determine that a difficult person in your life is not going to win by controlling you and getting under your skin. In wrestling terms, don't let that person pin you. Is that obnoxious person in your life really all that obnoxious, or are you a grouch, letting yourself get caught in what is really only a difference in personalities? Go home from work one evening and think about that. Make your mind up to start out the next day by being nice to that person. You'll be surprised how that can change the equation. And that's what Colossians 4:6 is talking about when it says, “Let your speech be always with grace seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.” Or maybe you're a man frustrated with the relationship between your wife and your mother. This is always a potentially difficult situation. Maybe you think your wife should be more adaptable, but you've forgotten what God told the man in Genesis 2:24. It says, “This is why a man leaves his father and mother, and is united to his wife. And they become one flesh.” Your responsibility in that situation is to your wife, not to making sure your parents' feelings come first in all situations. So, you see, often that difficult person you're dealing with is you, or at the very least a different perspective will help you see where the fault really lies. Finally, in 1 Corinthians 5, we read that Paul advises for really difficult people, a cooling-off period is legitimate. For example, the person who is causing real strife in a church should not be allowed to go on like that indefinitely; bad behavior sometimes must be confronted for the good of the community. And even for the good of the offended person, this is sound advice. So, if we stick to what the Lord has already told us and our tried and true methods for dealing with difficult people, we can get to a better place. Let's pray.Father God, a person who is angry or a troublemaker creates chaos for everyone. Help us analyze each of these situations as unique so that we know how to handle them from your Word. And most especially help us make it a habit to pray for those who are difficult so that we might see their lives changed and brought into harmony and unity.
