ACOFAE Podcast Proudly Presents: Showgirls x The Life of a Showgirl: "Men are usually the villain." If you've been a long time listener then you know that getting the movie Showgirls on the pod is a WIN for Laura Marie. Pairing it with a discussion about Taylor Swift's new album release, The Life of a Showgirl, is a match made in heaven for Jessica Marie! This being Jessica Marie's very first NC-17 film is a win for everyone and ACOFAE has so much to say. Kicking off the discussion with a full breakdown of the movie Showgirls, ACOFAE is in awe of the production. Sparking discussions about shedding child star image, internalized misogyny, and sexual freedom, the movie Showgirls is a spectacle for the eyes and for the brain. Taylor's discussion focuses on how women can't do anything right in the eyes of society, and that it seems to be that pain is rewarded instead of joy - and that joy makes women talentless. Join ACOFAE as they explore all of the storylines in both the movie and the album, and come to the conclusion that women just can't be happy without criticism. Another career that spanned decades like Gene Hackman was Diane Keaton's. She was nominated for Oscars and commanding the screen from the 70s through the 2000s. Our main introduction came in Father of the Bride in 1991, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Keaton's crowning moment came with Annie Hall in 1977. With that in mind, our draft this week is movies where the whole title is the name of a character. If you enjoy the show, please rate and review us on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts app or wherever you listen. Killer toys, programmed by an older toymaker who works along with his son, are designed to kill children.Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker may be even more bizarre to watch than the last Silent, Deadly Night movie if it's possible. In a series with little to no continuity or identify, this installment features a drunken, elderly toymaker making toys programmed to kill children. A young boy appears to be the next target after the boy's father dies mysteriously from a toy left at their doorstep, and the event renders the boy mute. This movie is very fun to watch and has so many crazy storylines converging that are hard to make sense of. It all leads up to a few twists towards the end of the movie that are absolutely insane. While we have different opinions of this movie, we all agree it's very entertaining. Today on Anime Was Not A Mistake our humble little podcast is whisked away to Hong Kong in the hopes of tracking down the origin of the clow cards. In, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie (1999) this strange spellbound land houses a mysterious magic all of its own. With Sakura and co searching for a brief glimpse of insight with Clow Reeds murky past, little do they know that flowing love, rushing revenge, and dripping danger lurks behind every ornamented corner. With a plot that is vastly different between English Dub and Japanese Sub there is much discussion to be had on the story at hand. However, Dan and Jonathan certainly enjoy hearing the Nelvana dub actors and their Americanized flourishes. Please, hold hard to your flotation devices, lest ye be washed away into the tides of the past.  Rate, Review, Subscribe, and Listen to Us on Podbean/iTunes/Stitcher/Spotify Follow us on Instagram:@animewasnotamistakepodcast Or on Facebook:@animewasnotamistakepod Music Provided: “Catch You Catch Me” – GUMI – CLAMP – Cardcaptor Sakura – Cardcaptor Sakura Original Soundtrack- 1998 “Sakura's Theme” – CLAMP – Cardcaptor Sakura – Cardcaptor Sakura Original Soundtrack- 1998 Nukumori no Kioku (Warm Memories) – Seki Tomokazu – CLAMP – Cardcaptor Sakura – Cardcaptor Sakura Original Soundtrack 2- 1998

This week, we come in hot — starting with wuxia vibes, holiday chaos, and cursed Christmas remixes of “September” — before diving into music stats, Taskmaster binges, Eden's Wuxia/Baihe adventures, and Peter's latest reading spree (including Gödel, Escher, Bach). Eventually, we embark on the Most Important Cultural Work of Our Time: a fast-food and fast-casual tier list. Along the way, we crown unexpected champions, bury some long-held myths (looking directly at you, In-N-Out), and declare Waffle House the beating heart of American civilization. It's unhinged, joyful, occasionally shameful, and fully definitive.Opening ShenanigansEden opens with an incredible wuxia monologue introducing Beauty's Blade, the Baihe novel they've been reading.Peter tries (and fails) to match the energy.Thanksgiving recaps: delayed flights, Target wandering, and the absolute war crime that is “Do You Remember…the 21st Night of December” playing over store speakers.Life Updates & MediaEnd-of-year malaise, work overload, and winter dread.Apple Music Replay breakdowns:Peter: another year, another Slow Forever domination.Eden: a deeply chaotic top-albums list featuring Rebecca Black, Japanese jazz fusion, KPM library music, and Tron: Legacy.Taskmaster binges continue.Peter's current reading includes Three-Body Problem and the 900-page Gödel, Escher, Bach.Eden is deep into Where Winds Meet (“What if Assassin's Creed but Wuxia and optionally an MMO?”), and fully living in Jianghu.Manga corner: Kaiju Girl Caramelise is adorable and unhinged in equal measure.

For now, we have: MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. This is the filmed version of the Tony-winning musical revival. It was a notorious flop for Stephen Sondheim and is now considered a classic. Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez star. In theaters for a limited run. (Find out here if it's playing near you: https://www.fathomentertainment.com/releases/merrily-we-roll-along/) SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE: The great Dave White returns to help review the "Sisu" sequel after sharing his thoughts on the 2023 original. Jorma Tommila is back as a wordless badass, but now it's post-WWII, so he's killing Russians instead of Nazis. This Finnish thriller is crazy fun. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! It's been literally a month since our last movie news livestream, and there was a ton to talk about between Netflix buying Warner Bros. and all the awards season developments. #Predator #PredatorBadlands #Aliens #AvP The Predator franchise has always been consistently entertaining(Barring the 2018 Predator movie which fell short despite some moments). At any rate coming off of Prey, Killer of Killers and even Alien: Romulus & Alien: Earth, it seems like we're heading down the road towards a legit Alien vs Predator movie. But while we're on this road, enter Predator: Badlands which does a solid job of putting you into this established universe with a twist...This time we're following a young Predator who's out to prove himself to his clan. With that setup, we got a film that overall hits all the beats you expect from the Predator franchise even with the PG-13 rating. This is a must watch.
