Welcome to Episode 37! This week, Nathan reviews the 2025 Subaru WRX RS — or TR, if you're tuning in from the good ol' US of A. Depending on what you want out of a sporty small car, this may very well be the best bang for your buck. Plus, Nick recaps how his week is going so far with the 2024 Vinfast VF8. After a rocky launch — and that's putting it mildly — VinFast has done a good job righting many of the wrongs in the early cars. But some software bits still need some time in the oven. And finally, Imran's back in the studio! Fresh off driving the refreshed 2024 Range Rover Velar, he has proclaimed himself DoubleClutch.ca's resident Premium Dude. Enjoy the show?
Benjamin talks about his first impressions of the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Korean automaker's mainstream EV which rides on an entirely EV-oriented platform. He discusses the vehicle's unique and approachable styling, the range and charging performance and touches on the driver assistance features before delivering his verdict on whether this is an EV worth checking out. Then Sami finds himself in the driver's seat of a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar, an SUV that used to look stylish, modern and fresh, but is now feeling a bit unrefined and out of sorts following the latest updates elsewhere in the Range Rover lineup. Hear his thoughts on the dizzying technology within the Velar, the start-stop system and the luxurious appointments of the cabin, before sharing his fears of being carjacked. Finally, Sami and Benjamin discuss the latest news in the industry, including the reports of a new Thunderbird, a huge 8-seater Land Rover Defender and a funny looking rally Juke.

A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein and I am your host for this show. Last week, I wrote about how to be more productive on my blog and it elicited a lot of questions related to that question: How can we become more productive. The reality is, it's not rocket science. More of than not what causes out difficulties with productivity are the tools we are using. For some it's that they are not using any tools, for others it's they are using the wrong tools altogether. This week, I will explain all so you too can begin down the road of improving your overall productivity. Now before we get to the answer, as I mentioned last week, October is the best time to begin planning the coming year. And, well, 2020 has not turned out exactly as many of us planned. In order to help as many people as I can to develop an achievable plan to really help you dive deep into your dreams and goals and bring them forward so you can begin making progress on them. I know it is difficult to maintain focus on these goals and dreams, but while it may be difficult it is not impossible, and I devised a course a few years ago that helps you to uncover those goals and dreams and to show you how to build them into your everyday life so you can start making progress on them. Time And Life Mastery is my premium course and it is packed full of ideas, methods and strategies that will help you to turn dreams into actionable goals. So for the next few days, you can buy this course, which is normally $99.00 for just $74.99. That's a 25% saving and it's a course that will not only show you how to build a life you want, it will also inspire you to take action. I do hope you will join me on the course. I put my heart and soul into this because I know it works. I know because I took delivery of my Range Rover Velar two weeks ago, and that is the start for my wife and me to begin building the lifestyle we want for our long-term future. (Those of you who have taken the course will understand that reference to the Range Rover) I hope you will join me in this course and turn 2021 into the year you wanted for 2020. Okay, it's time for me now to hand you over to the mystery podcast voice for this week's question. This week's question comes from Laura. Laura asks, Hi Carl, I've been trying to find ways of getting my work done. I've tried all the apps, and read blog posts, books and watched videos, yet I still find I cannot get all my work done. I always feel overwhelmed. Can you tell me how someone can become more productive and better with their time management? Is there some secret? Hi Laura, thank you for your question and thank you to everyone else who wrote to me about this very topic. Now, As I wrote in my blog post, to become more productive you need to become very aware of how you spend your time. Now when I. Say become aware of how you are spending your time, I mean from a bigger picture point of view. Let me explain. The bigger picture view is where you can see how much time you are spending on doing the work—work that matters, and how much time you spend not doing the work that matters. Now, of course, this means identifying what “work that matters” means. Work that matters is work you have decided needs doing. It is the tasks and your task list and it is the meetings and obligations you have on your calendar. You also need to be very aware of how much time you are spending inside your productivity apps. Now let's get something straight here. While planning and knowing what you need to do is important, I do not deny that time spent planning, processing and reorganising your lists of work is not doing the work. In the COD system that is the “O” - organising. Organising is not doing. Doing is doing. I remember when I was first introduced to Notion. I had seen the videos on YouTube, I had read their website and I was so excited. Finally, I thought, here was an app that would help my planning better than any app that had come before it. I hurriedly installed it on my computer and began setting it up. Six hours later, I was still not quite happy with my set up, so I skipped dinner and carried on. A further two hours later, I was tired. I stopped. I then opened up Todoist to see what work needed doing. I had begun the day with ten tasks. And there, in my today view, were still ten tasks. I had done none of my work. I had spent over eight hours trying to set up Notion how I wanted it and had done nothing important all afternoon. What a complete waste of time. I gave up with Notion, deleted the app snd swore I would never again make that mistake. What you need to realise is when an app developer creates an app, one of the metrics used to convince investors to invest in their startup is the amount of time a user spends using the app every day. So, it is in the best interests of the app developer to encourage you to spend time inside the app. Now, I am not suggesting that is Notion's intention, I do not know their intentions. But you look at almost any pitch an app startup gives and somewhere in their pitch will be that metric. Now if your goal is to become more productive, spending more time inside a, so-called, “productivity” app is not being more productive. Being more productive is getting your work done to the highest possible standard in the least amount of time. So how do you do that? Well, firstly make sure you are spending enough time each day doing your work. Of course, that is much easier to say than do. But once you become very aware of how you are spending your time it does become easier. For instance, I use my calendar app to block time out each day to work on my core work. The work that really matters. Blocking time on my calendar takes around thirty-seconds. I do it the night before and I only block time out for the next day. I look for the gaps and if I feel I need an hour or two to do some specific work, I will block that time out. Let's say, for example, I want to write a blog post. I know I need ninety minutes for that task. I look at my calendar and see that between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm my calendar is clear of meetings. So I will block it. At 1:15 pm the next day I get an alert on my computer to say “writing time in 15 minutes”. So, I will start to finish off whatever I was doing. Take a quick five or ten-minute break and then start writing. I did not need to go to my to-do list manager. I know already my plan was to write the blog post, so my calendar alerted me and I begin. Now, here's the thing. It's great to say “I have to do my work”, but how serious are you about your work if you allow distractions to get in your way? I've heard all the excuses. I have to be available for my customers, my boss, my colleagues and on and on that list goes. Okay, that may be true. So, what's more important? Doing your important work or being available 24/7 for your boss, customers, colleagues etc? You can't really do both. You need to make a decision. Here's the thing though, you customers, boss and colleagues will never ever be upset or angry with you if you are not available for an hour or so because you are doing the work that matters. Seriously, if you want to become more productive you do need to make those decisions. Yes, they are difficult decisions, but again, what's important here? Now, what do you do about all those meeting invitations? There's a lot of those and somehow you need to get control of them. If you find you are attending meetings five to six hours a day you are going to need to have a conversation with your boss. Let's say three out of the five days you spend five hours in meetings. That leaves you will just three hours to get your work done. If you struggle to finish your work because you are attending so many meetings, then you need to develop a different strategy. One way that can help is to make sure you plan out your week. Planning out your week is not something you can do in five or ten minutes. It takes a little longer than that. When you plan out the week what you are doing is deciding what needs to be done that week. Now what I have found is when I have a set of outcomes for the week—work that I want to get completed by the end of the week—I can create a preliminary plan and if I cannot complete something one day, I can move it forward to another day that week. The goal is to achieve my outcomes by the end of the week not try and do everything in one day. This means if I am flooded with meetings, I can designate Thursday or Friday as a no meetings day and make my excuses or ask for the meeting to rearranged. If you have some control over your schedule you could create a permanent day as a no-meetings day. I do this on Tuesdays. I don't allow any meetings or calls to be scheduled on a Tuesday. This means I can use Tuesdays as a focus day to do those bigger tasks that require more than two or three hours to work on. Ultimately, you need to set some boundaries. I know if you are low down in the command chain this can be difficult, but having that conversation with the powers that be can help here. What's the worst that can happen? The key really is having a plan and a set of outcomes for the week. If you have these written down and you remind yourself each day of your outcomes for the week, you will be surprised how much you actually get done each week. This is a far better strategy than having no plan and not knowing what you need to do each day. I can assure you if you don't have a plan, you will end up working on someone else's plan and that is never ever a good strategy for you. That way you end up helping other people to do their work and find yourself in meaningless meetings wasting your valuable time. So, if you want to get serious about becoming more productive, then monitor how you currently spend your time. How much time are you doing work that matters? How much time are you planning and organising (or as we used to call it shuffling paper)? If you are spending more than 5% of your time planning and processing then your system is far too complex. Simplify it. Do you really need all those sub-projects and tasks? Do you need all those tags and labels? Maybe you do, but perhaps you do not. If you are not ever searching or using tags then don't use them. I hope that has helped, Laura. Thank you for your question Don't forget if you have a question you would like answering, then all you need do is email me at carl@carlpullein.com or DM me on Twitter or Facebook. It just remains for me now to wish you all a very very productive week.

Show #830 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 6th July 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. PSA: National Drive Electric Week, Sep 26-Oct 4, 2020, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. https://driveelectricweek.org/index 2021 HYUNDAI 45: NEW ELECTRIC CROSSOVER CAUGHT ON VIDEO "The 45, Hyundai's first bespoke electric car, has been filmed testing at the Nürburgring in preparation for an expected launch in 2021. The crossover SUV, set to rival the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E, was previewed with a bold, retro-styled concept at the Frankfurt motor show last September." reports Autocar.co.uk: "While it's still considered to be a crossover, we can also see that it remains low-slung, with far less ground clearance than a traditional SUV. The 45 concept's name references the number of years since the Korean maker’s first production car, the Pony. Hyundai also employs LEDs for the 45’s badging. Meanwhile, a charge indicator at the bottom of the doors allows the driver to quickly see how far they can drive before getting in. Technology developments showcased on the 45 concept include a camera monitoring system, which is said to leave room for “self-driving system applications”. As is common on concepts, cameras replace the side mirrors and are kept clean by a lens that rotates past a brush. Interior space is maximised by the batteries being set in a skateboard-style floor, allowing Hyundai to “create a space that feels like a living room with new pieces of furniture”. There’s lounge-style seating front and rear and the driver and front passenger get one unbroken footwell." https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2021-hyundai-45-new-electric-crossover-caught-video NIO SHARES RALLY 16% AFTER ELECTRIC-CAR COMPANY'S ABOVE-EXPECTATIONS SALES "Nio Inc. The Electric Vehicle Charing Study is available at drive.ohio.gov." according to Richland Source: In the study, a new state-wide strategy is outlined, identifying key steps that are necessary for expanding Ohio’s EV impact. The strategy identified various sites needed to build EV-friendly corridors throughout the state. A key recommendation from the strategy is to have EV charging stations available and installed at least every 50 miles at strategic locations along interstate, state and US route corridors. World Car Design of the Year 2018“.

Where, exactly, does the Land Rover Range Rover Velar fit in to the luxury sport-utility vehicle universe? That's what Benjamin and Sami try to figure out today, by comparing the gorgeous hauler to both the BMW X3 M40i and the Volvo XC60 - two very different, yet ostensibly competitive SUVs.

Friday 2nd March 2018. Coming up today we’ll talk exclusively about the Jaguar I-PACE and why it deserves the term game-changer. The global digital reveal featured Johnny Smith who shared the most interesting specs on the car, which is being assembled in Graz in Austria. So let me tell you my personal Top 10 highlights from the I-PACE launch. 10…Strong Regen – this is an essential on any car which follows the Nissan LEAF with the exceptional ePedal. I-PACE has two levels of regen and on the strongest setting is enough to mean you’ll rarely use the brake pedal. But will it also apply friction brakes like the LEAF? We’ll wait to find out. 9…Battery Preconditioning – batteries are a bit like us humans, we’re happy about 20degrees C. And when the I-PACE is plugged in it will use thermal management to ensure your precious electrons are kept at the perfect temperature. It’s thanks to a heat pump for when it’s cold. 8...The Tech – Jaguar’s recent InControl® Touch Pro Duo™ infotainment System, which we first saw on the Range Rover Velar and later on the 2018 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, plus Touch Pro Duo, which relies on a pair of innovative touchscreens which work in conjunction with capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls, It’s not all just one big screen like a Model 3, you still have a couple of buttons where Jaguar thought they were necessary. 7…Alexa – all part of the connected car. You can ask your Amazon Echo device: “Is my car locked?,” “What is the charging level?,” and “Do I have enough range to get to work?” 6…The Size – not too big, not too small. Not to tall, not too low. Short overhangs to make the most of the battery platform and get the most interior space, keeping only the room at the front needed for the crash structure. The short, low bonnet and curved rear screen make the Tesla Model X look a bit old and flabby. 5…The Range. 300 miles. 90kWh battery. CCS Combo charger for rapid charging. The charging speed is officially 100kW. 0-80% in 45 minutes. 4…I—PACE eTrophy - OK this is a bit of a cheat because it wasn’t revealed today, but it’s important to expose the cars to a new audience. These will be 30 minute races supporting FormulaE, with 20 cars on track at once. Cars will be modified for racing with extra aero and diffuser. 3…Performance - 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. That’s sports car performance. Two motors, designed by Jaguar, both and rear. Of equal size. Jaguar have a tradition of sporty, well handing cars they will want to uphold. Optional air suspension, which can actually lower the car by a full 10mm at speed, to reduce drag. The battery is all down low along the bottom of the car to lower the centre of gravity to make an SUV handle like a sports car with 50:50 weight distribution. It’s 394hp or 298kw of power. 2…Value - £63,495 for the base model, and in the UK you can take off £4,500 for the plug in grant, bringing you down to £58,995. There are three trim levels plus a First Edition model, and one drivetrain / battery size. It’s all aluminium and comes with a three year, unlimited mileage warranty on the car, and an 8-year battery warranty. There’s price parity with a Model S 75, and with the Jaguar you get a much larger battery; the same range; 394bhp vs 329 for the Tesla; almost 50% more torque; an interior that would feel at home in any Range Rover; and a similar 0-60 time to the Tesla. And Jaguar have done all that before every other major manufacturer, making significant investments. 1…Over The Air (OTA) Updates – I thought long and hard about what to make number one on my Top 10, and let me tell you why this is so important. ICE cars have had 100 years to get to where they are now: still polluting, still inefficient, still made of too many parts, still reliant on having you take it to a dealer when it has a fault who plugs it in. Whereas in a few short years, the pace of change for EVs is much faster, from batteries to drivetrains to operating systems. All of that means your car is far more like your mobile phone which, as it’s basically some commoditised hardware being made special by custom software, the same culture of OTA updates will apply. The idea of buying a car and it still being the same car in 12 months is quickly becoming old fashioned, very soon people will expect their car to be updated just like their phone, as new safety features or efficiencies are developed. The architecture of an EV, that of a battery + hardware + software lends itself to constant improvement. You only need to look at Tesla to see what I’m talking about. Well done Jaguar. Finally a couple of housekeeping points. A documentary, titled ‘Fully Charged’ aired at the end of the webcast, giving a behind the scenes insight into the creators of the Jaguar I-PACE. Watch it here on the Jaguar website. Also I chose my Top 10 articles about the I-PACE reveal which I’ve linked to in the podcast description, and also on my blog page where all the podcasts go, go to evnewdaily.com The order books are open now. I’ll be searching down the back of the sofa for some extra spare change. https://electrek.co/2018/03/01/jaguar-i-pace-all-electric-production/ https://www.whatcar.com/news/jaguar-i-pace/ https://insideevs.com/jaguar-i-pace-debuts-with-240-miles-of-range-90-kwh-battery/ http://www.evo.co.uk/geneva-motor-show/20886/production-ready-2018-jaguar-i-pace-electric-suv-revealed https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/news/jaguar-i-pace-revealed-all-electric-family-suv-front-ev-revolution/ https://www.greencarguide.co.uk/2018/03/jaguar-pace-officially-launched/ https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-geneva-motor-show/2018-jaguar-i-pace-revealed-395bhp-and-298-mile-range-pivotal http://evfleetworld.co.uk/jaguar-i-pace-pricing-range-and-final-spec-revealed/ https://plugin-magazine.com/driving/jaguar-i-pace/?utm_source=refferal&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=tweepy Thank you for listening today, I hope you've enjoyed it.
