Dan Champoux shares the journey of GEKOT Robotics and how what started as an idea from the kids' robotics team he coached turned into multiple patents, a partnership with Razor, and the development of a solution for light electric vehicle safety. We talk about the challenges of fundraising and the importance of finding a path to revenue, and Dan reflects on the mistakes and lessons learned along the way (including the value of attracting smart people and finding free resources). Dan emphasizes the combination of hard work and luck in building a successful company and discusses his motivation to support and uplift his team. He shares his plans for an upcoming event to celebrate his team's hard work and hopes to announce their first paying customer later this summer. Dan also talks about the evolution of product development, from focusing on collision avoidance for electric scooters to expanding into other areas of transportation. He highlights the challenges of staying focused and managing a remote team with limited resources and reflects on the difficulties of entrepreneurship and the need for more transparency about the risks involved. Takeaways Building a successful company requires a combination of hard work and luck. Finding a path to revenue is crucial as investors are less likely to invest in pre-revenue companies. Surrounding yourself with smart people and leveraging free resources can be valuable in the entrepreneurial journey. Mistakes and failures are part of the process and can lead to valuable lessons. The landscape of fundraising has changed, and storytelling and go-to-market strategies are important in attracting investors. The journey of building a business involves personal growth and self-discovery. The motivation to pay and support your staff is a hallmark of a good leader. Product development often evolves as customer discovery reveals new opportunities. Staying focused and managing a remote team with limited resources can be challenging. Entrepreneurship is hard and requires a strong why and a willingness to accept failure.

In this episode of PivotMe, April discusses the metaphor of life as a peloton in cycling, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and perseverance. She shares insights from a mastermind teammate, highlighting that everyone has their ups and downs. April uses the peloton analogy to illustrate how leading and drafting can apply to life and business.   Key points:   1. Peloton Analogy: Life has its challenges, much like a cycling peloton, where sometimes you lead and other times you struggle at the back. 2. Strength in Numbers: Just as cyclists reduce wind resistance for each other, in life, you can rely on your team to support you during tough times. 3. Drafting is Okay: It's acceptable to slow down and take a break, but giving up is not an option. Staying in motion, even slowly, is crucial. 4. Continuous Effort: Keep moving forward, using various tools and team support to stay motivated and maintain momentum. 5. Refocus and Reenergize: With the right team, you can push ahead and overcome both external and internal challenges. Success is a team effort.   April concludes with a powerful message: keep pedaling, find your team, and remember that success is not a solo journey.   ___________ Would you like to know more about being coached by April? Say hello to Justin, well known for being one of the funniest copywriters out there. Post-divorce and some serious business evolution, he realized cracking jokes every minute didn't feel quite right. What's a funny guy to do when jokes have become part of the brand? Justin's here to school us on the art of rolling with punches, and embracing the fact that, like fine wine, we humans grow, change, and get better with time… Listen now!  Can't-Miss Moments From This Episode:If you've been donning the disguise of the 'professionally accepted' you to lure in clients and earn respect… Justin and I are here to snatch that mask off. We're deep-diving into why, in a crowded ocean of competition, embracing your unique self is not just a power move but the ultimate marketing strategy... Plot Twist: forget creating something 100% unique – it's overrated (and doesn't really exist anymore). If that's been stopping you from getting yourself out there, Justin and I have some perspective that'll get you unstuck and moving forward with confidence…  How often do we speak our minds versus crafting responses based on what we think others want from us? (If you claim to be 100% honest 100% of the time, I'd like to point out that your pants are on fire.) My story from my days waiting tables will open your eyes to what people REALLY want to hear…  Mosh pit marketing: how a story I kept hidden for more than six years spilled out in a professional setting (hint: alcohol was involved), and changed everything about the way I do business... To be vulnerable, or not to be vulnerable? Where's the 'sweet spot' in opening up? Justin and I reveal how to find the fine line (and when to keep things close to the vest vs baring it all to the world)...This one is jam-packed full of advice. Don't miss out - listen now!Justin's Bio:Justin Blackman is a brand voice expert who's written for more than 429 people and managed to sound like every one of them. Robert is a serial entrepreneur and investor in the technology and oil and gas sectors. He founded TeamSupport in 2008 and led the company to be one of the strongest players in the multi-billion dollar customer support technology market. Focusing on the B2B segment of the market, TeamSupport has customers spanning the globe and operations in both the United States and Cape Town, South Africa. Two years after completing a private equity translation with New York City based Level Equity, Robert stepped away from the day to day operations of the company and transitioned into an oversight on the company's board. Prior to TeamSupport, Robert and a partner consolidated oil and gas production leases in East Texas to create a strong regional oil producer. That company was sold to a Canadian public entity and Robert served on their board for a number of years. Directly out of Colgate University, Robert was thrust into the CEO role of a small and floundering software company called Sundance Digital. Over the next 10 years, Robert and a team he cultivated built Sundance into one of the dominant software providers to the global television market. In 2006 he led a transaction to sell the company to Avid Technology (NASDAQ:AVID). Robert currently sits on the board of Blossom Street Ventures, a Dallas based venture capital firm and also serves as a Trustee for Colgate University.

What does it mean to be a master of marketing? For some, it's about sales and numbers. For others, it's about creativity and self-expression. And for others still, it's about making a difference in the world. At its core, marketing is about understanding people and what they want or need. It's about finding a way to connect with them and give them what they're looking for. And it's about doing all of this in a way that is ethical and responsible. That is what today's guest, Craig Handley, talks about.    As an entrepreneur, speaker, musician, and philanthropist, Craig lives life like extreme sports. An expert in Hispanic Marketing, Direct Response Marketing, and Sales and Brand expansion, Handley is the CEO and founder of the hugely successful "Listen Up Espanol," which was named #1 in Business Products and Service (#27 overall) on Inc. Magazine's 500/5000 list. Handley's businesses employ over 1,000 employees and have cumulatively done over 500 million in sales within the last five years to Hispanics in the USA.   Tune in to learn about Craig's marketing techniques and how he creates authentic connections with people quickly and seamlessly.
