The Quick Save Club is a spin off of the Cartridge Club that focuses on PC Games. Every month we choose a retro, classic, or indie PC game to play. We play it together as a community, then record a podcast talking about our experiences with the Game! Welcome to Episode 16! This month we talked about the well recieved Action RPG - Torchlight 2! Hosting this month we got Kevin @Buried_On_Mars, and Ryan @Retrogamerrantn! Leave feedback on twitter @QuickSaveClub or on the Cartridge Club forums! Thanks for listening.
Ryan unfortunately did not enjoy his time with Torchlight III, but has some tips for securing years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at a minimal cost. Jocelyn takes up medieval cemetery management with Graveyard Keeper. Ryan is ready to pick up a PlayStation 5, but are electronic stores ready? We go a little long in What We're Playing, but take some time to discuss the latest news out of Blizzard, with Vicarious Visions merging with Team 3 to work on a Diablo II remake.

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We dive into the Water Temple (see what I did there?) as well as elaborating more about some topics we touched on last time. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Through the Water Temple Issues covered: what Tim means when he talks about Hyrule Field, lack of prior art for 3D hub and spoke, the beginnings of an open world, sight lines for blocking and enticing, breaking the prior structures, physically representing the choice space of macro decisions, looking at a level in a tool to get a sense of scale, getting different perspectives, seeing the DNA of 3D Zelda, getting a sense of a space, a return to Goron City, revisiting areas with new tools, stealing object-oriented quest design, filling in the slots and a sense of accomplishment, gaining levels or using an economy for reward, hybrid systems, allowing for player choice, renting tools in later versions, getting to Breath of the Wild and having all tools fairly early, not caring about remaining progression stuff, what happened to Jabbu-Jabbu?, dabbling with buoyancy and friction on the ice, having a tool that's only useful in one dungeon/Domain, having to give up something in a bottle, having a need for that analog stick, having to make decisions about how you'll use a container, concretizing the abstract, an area of effect key, how they devised their rules, Navi's... cryptic hint, using stores as a clue mechanism, a usability feature, replacing lost items, how many hearts Dark Link have, a camera problem with the Forest Temple boss, taking off the boots as soon as you get in the temple, the water level as a state you can change many times, the floating platforms as an item of interest, hookshot anchors, the potential influence of Tomb Raider and The Cistern, a quick aside on which versions we're playing, the creepy reveal of Dark Link, how we each defeated that boss, the evolution of wearables as also bindable in the future, upgrading a tool instead, making it clearer that you need another means of solving a puzzle, the cold hard truth about fishing games, variant gameplay should be easy, a preference for Tim's explanation for all the Legends of Zelda. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, Super Mario 64, Disney World, LucasArts, N64, Shadows of the Empire, Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron, DOOM (1993), TIE Fighter, World of Warcraft, Republic Commando, Dave Collins, Jesse Harlin, GTA III, Metroid, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Troy Mashburn, Arkham (series), Link Between Worlds, Skyward Sword, Kingdom Hearts, Diablo, Path of Exile, Torchlight II, Tomb Raider, 3DS, Chrono Trigger, Milo Kent, Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, Okami, Jak and Daxter, Ben "from Iowa" Zaugg, Link to the Past, Switch, Dungeons & Dragons, Sam Thomas, Brian David Gilbert, Polygon, Halo, Vlad, Kirk Hamilton, Strong Songs, Ultima Underworld, Final Fantasy, Aaron Evers. In Netflix's American Vandal, a dick plays dick to reveal a dick (who doesn't know dick) being railroaded by dicks for drawing dicks -- dickishness ensues! Also, you're the first, last, and only line of defense against weed overgrowth, waning produces, and the inhumanity of a looming corporate agricultural enterprise in Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch. And then, no mechanical-glove means no mechanical-love in the action-adventure game Hob, from the team that brought you Torchlight and Torchlight II. On top of that, Need For Speed Payback struggles in the qualifying round. We've got the highs, lows, and dizzying middles!

Hello! My media consumption is used primarily as an escape from reality so why not escape as far as possible into the realm of Fantasy!? The games are: Torchlight II, Dragon's Dogma, and Spellforce - Platinum Edition.
Mark and Noah's grand plans of playing SWTOR are foiled by a patch, but that doesn't mean they didn't play that and more Torchlight II.
Mark and Noah venture into Torchlight II for one week and come out enthralled. Plus: details on our upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic tour.
Matt Uelmen shares his music for Torchlight II on Top Score from Classical MPR.
On this week's episode, Lisa eviscerates EA's Theme Park iOS and tells us how far the game has fallen since its Bullfrog heyday. (Spoiler alert: Pretty far.) Dave plays Clash of The Clans on iOS, though no one seems to be impressed. Joel finally gets to play Assassins Creed III on PC, and Eric picks up Darksiders 2 at 50% off in the Steam Autumn Sale. Speaking of which, we highlight some of the deals from the recent Steam Autumn Sale and help you, dear listener, to get your credit cards primed and ready for the main event: the Steam Winter Sale. WAH, STEAM AH! All this and more on Episode 8 of Staring at Screens! PS. As of writing this post, the final day of the Autumn sale is underway. Our thoughts, very briefly: 25 Nov Dishonored; 50%; $29.99 — Excellent game. Great price for a new release. Civilization V GOTY Edition; 75% $12.49 — Pretty cheap, but die-hard fans of the series will prefer IV in favor of V. (Die-hard fans of the series will probably already own this anyway.) Orcs Must Die 2; 75%; $3.74 — At this price, why the hell not? Much better with friends to play it with, so buy a few copies and gift them! Arkham City GOTY Edition; 75%; $7.49 — Why haven't you played this yet?!? BUY. Torchlight II; 50%; $9.99 — At this price, We'd buy multiple copies for friends. Even friends on Mac, because the Mac playable version is inevitable. Sonic Generations; 75&; $7.49 — We're drawing a blank with this one. Never played it. Maybe if you really like Sonic? 26 Nov Counter Srike GO; 50%; $7.49 — Are people still playing Counter Strike these days? Maybe if you owned a LANshop… Call of Duty MW3; 50%; $29.99 — This is the first time MW3 has been on sale, we think. It is what it is, for half the price. Alan Wake franchise; 75%; $9.99 — Everything Alan Wake is 75% off! Which is good, because you're going to need money to buy adult diapers because Alan Wake is piss-your-pants scary (if you are like Joel!) Castle Crashers; 67%; $4.99 — Only if you've never played this on XBLA, and even then try to get a bunch of friends to purchase this because it's $5 and it's an online multiplayer beat 'em up and you really get bang for your buck if you play this with buddies. Legend of Grimrock; 75%; $3.74 — Old-school RPG dungeon crawl. At full price, this game isn't for everyone, but at $3.74, why the hell not? BUY. The Witcher 2; 75%; $7.49 — A bit of a niche fantasy IP, but this is well worth your time at this price. (Another game we need to get around to finishing.) Send questions and comments to hello@staringatscreens.org! Just because there's a sale doesn't mean you can forget about writing to us.
