Listen without ads on patreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on Dopey! We open the show with a deep dive into Lou Reed's classic junkie anthem "Waiting for the Man" before reading incredible listener stories involving MDMA-assisted therapy, smashing open a safe with an axe for OxyContin, smoking crack in an airplane bathroom, a horrific flesh-eating abscess, and surviving Antabuse mixed with opioids. Then legendary author Jerry Stahl returns for one of the funniest and deepest conversations Dopey has ever had. Jerry shares never-before-heard stories about writing for Twin Peaks, working with David Lynch and Ben Stiller, learning from Hubert Selby Jr., meeting William Burroughs' son, Oprah admitting she loved crack, surviving heroin addiction, and why kindness matters more than bitterness. The conversation ends with Dave pitching Jerry his outrageous action movie idea: Die Hard... at Katz's Delicatessen. The lore of the games from Remedy and how the two series Alan Wake and Control are linked is the topic of this week's Lore Watch Podcast. Both games are about events that shift from what the main characters know to be true, into something which couldn't possibly be true, if what they already knew to be true was real. Both games have a sense of wrongness and eerieness — Alan Wake's is more weird, like Twin Peaks, while Control's veers into horror.Joe and Matt unpack the plots of both series as individual works, and then delve into the mysteries and themes that connect them. We're headed to the surreal post-apocalyptic (?) wasteland of Motorama, and Joey has assembled his co-host Avengers, Mike Manzi and Bob (aka Shreds), for help! After Bob talks about how he discovered this movie -- and the (maybe) genius behind it -- we talk about who the movie is for (unclear) and what it's trying to say about the American Dream (also unclear). We discuss its Twin Peaks vibes and dream logic, its long list of cameos and character actors, and our favorite scenes and moments. Mike connects this movie with a legendary Nicolas Cage movie. We discuss modern equivalents of Motorama cards. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. Jace and Denali embark on a bonus episode, reviewing the 1992 Stephen King film SLEEPWALKERS! This movie is King's first screenplay that was not adapted from one of his existing books. It stars Madchen Amick (of Twin Peaks fame) who faces a mother and son that are part of an immortal race of cat-human hybrids which travel from town to town feasting on the souls of virgins. This may be the one of the wildest movies we've reviewed for this season, so strap in.... Thanks for stopping by!

In Episode 156, we enter the unsettling, hypnotic world of David Lynch with acclaimed film scholar Todd McGowan, author of The Impossible David Lynch.Lynch is one of cinema's greatest paradoxes. He worked within Hollywood systems and budgets, yet created films that feel radically independent. From Blue Velvet to Mulholland Drive, from Twin Peaks to Wild at Heart, his cinema resists easy interpretation while remaining deeply watchable. So how did Lynch stay between mainstream cinema and art-house radicality?Todd McGowan unpacks Lynch through Kant, Freud, fantasy theory, and the unconscious — revealing why Lynch's films are not puzzles to solve, but experiences to undergo. We explore whether Lynch was more classical than we assume, how he erased the “wall” between fantasy and reality, and why feeling — not logic — structures his cinema. This episode is essential for filmmakers, theorists, and anyone fascinated by how cinema can disturb, seduce, and transform an audience.⏱️ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Introduction01:28 Kant, Freud & Lynch04:20 Erasing the wall (Blue Velvet)06:57 Staying between mainstream & art film (clip)08:15 His most “mainstream” film – Wild at Heart10:01 Godard & Lynch (clip)11:30 Cinema of feeling vs cinema of reason12:20 On Godard's passing (clip)15:57 Lynch as a traditional Hollywood director? You love math, right? We presume that you do, and that's precisely why we're reviewing Darren Aronofsky's debut feature Pi, from 1998. That's Pi, like the number (not PI, like the detective, nor pie, like the dessert). But don't worry, even if you hate math, the movie's got plenty of self-mutilation and phantom traincars. But before that! Parker and Sean break down the release calendar and chat about every single movie coming out in theaters in July of 2026. So #DonloydNow and enjoy this bite-sized Junk Food Supper. We got all this plus Twin Peaks jokes, residual smoke damage, rooting for a full-on Blade Runner situation (atmospherically), proximity to sea lions, an in-depth exploration of the direct-to-cruise-ship film sales marketplace, shout out Barone's Pizza (Valley Glen), points on the backend, occasional World Cup fireworks in the distant background, don't droppy that floppy (diskettes), semi-checked nosedrips, crocodile tears, blank stares, squeeky chairs, phantom gleeks and so much more!! In this episode, we're joined by Dr. Mario Baghos, who is Senior Lecturer in Theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia. He's the owner of the YouTube channel, TERRA SYMBOLICA, and the author of a recent peer-reviewed essay on Orphic legends and Descent into Hades themes in the hit TV show, Twin Peaks. In our conversation, Dr. Baghos brilliantly and breathlessly surveys the full swath of Twin Peaks and the way it coheres with so many iterations of the Descent into Hades motif. It's a fascinating conversation full of nerdy Twin Peaks insights on religious and mythological imagery germane to the show. Team members on the episode from The Two Cities includes: Dr. John Anthony Dunne and Dr. Kris Song. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hello! And welcome to The Dana Gould Hour podcast. Fasten your fun belts, we are blasting off, yet again. We are joined today by legends. You heard me. Mark Frost is a legendary writer, first in television. He started out on The Six Million Dollar Man, moved on to Hill Street Blues, co-created Twin Peaks with David Lynch. In motion pictures, he wrote and directed the film Storyville, he wrote the 2005 The Fantastic Fourand its sequel Rise Of The Silver Surfer and he has a new book out entitled Yankee Sphinx, which tells the story of FDR from just before America's involvement in World War II up through his death. It's told through the eyes of FDR's Great Uncle, Will Hasset, who worked as FDR's speech writer and press attaché, one might say. We cover a lot of topics and a lot of ground and I am super happy that Mr. Frost sat down and gave me his time. Gary Rhodes is a writer and film historian who has written, among many other titles, a multi-volume set on the strange life and career of Bela Lugosi. He's written about Ed Wood, he wrote the book Horror At The Drive In, Essays In Popular Americana and he has an excellent new book out entitled Weirdumentary: Ancient Aliens, Fallacious Prophecies and Mysterious Monsters from 1970's Documentaries. Before streaming, before cable, before the History Channel and Ancient Aliens, these topics were explored in documentaries at your local Cineplex. Many were produced by the late great, Sunn Classic Pictures. UFOs, Elvis, Bigfoot, they're all here, in the pages of Weirdumentary, and we're a-gonna talk about it. And now, it's on, to our filthy business.
This week, Da7e and Neil are surrendering immediately as Rhaenyra finally makes her way to toward that big spikey chair on House of the Dragon. In The Calm [04:40], they analyze the show's shaky relationship with the concept of honor, discuss this episode's original purpose as a season 2 finale, and throw their support behind the Emmy campaign for Emma D'Arcy. Then in The Storm [01:06:04], they look ahead to what happens now that the Iron Throne has changed hands. And they engage in debate about Daeron, who still may be useful in the weeks to come.Next week, House of the Dragon continues with a third episode that may also be more of a season premiere. Either way, there will be more polygons to discuss on Monday. To interact with the show, send your comments and questions to stormofspoilers@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter/X and Bluesky @Da7eandNeil.You can also support Da7e and Neil and get all kinds of bonus content (from the Game of Thrones era to the LOST rewatch to our Twin Peaks rewatch project to our current Adventure Pod and Dark watch project) by subscribing to our Patreon here: patreon.com/Da7eandNeil

In this special edition of Isaac & Joel's Kwarter Kwell, Isaac Weishaupt and Joel Thomas dive into one of the strangest ideas ever connected to UFO disclosure:Are human beings merely containers?Inspired by Bob Lazar's claim that aliens view humanity as "containers," the conversation expands into occult philosophy, Kabbalistic golems, alchemical homunculi, Crowley's Moonchild rituals, Michael Aquino, consciousness transfer, and the possibility that modern transhumanist dreams are simply ancient occult ideas dressed in new technological clothing.Could artificial life be created as a vessel for another intelligence? Are stories of golems, homunculi, and magical children primitive versions of the same concepts now being explored through AI, genetics, and consciousness research? And why do so many occult traditions revolve around the movement, manipulation, and containment of the soul?Along the way, Isaac and Joel explore Jack Parsons, Marjorie Cameron, the Babylon Working, Kenneth Grant, UFO religions, Epstein's occult interests, Michael Aquino, the Temple of Set, and the increasingly blurred line between ancient magic and modern science. This is one of the deepest—and strangest—Kwarter Kwells yet.Isaac Weishaupt: Website | YouTubeNew Kwarter Kwell T-Shirts: PurchaseFree The Rabbits:Merchandise: https://freetherabbits.myshopify.comBuy Me A Coffee: DonateFollow: Website | Instagram | X | FacebookWatch: YouTube | RumbleMusic: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Music Films: https://merkelfilms.com Email: freetherabbitspodcast@gmail.comDistributed by: merkel.mediaIntro Music:Joel Thomas – Free The RabbitsYouTube | Spotify | Apple MusicOutro Music:Joel Thomas – GreyYouTube | Spotify | Apple MusicTopics Discussed:Bob Lazar, Soul Containers, Erika Kirk, Michael Aquino, JD Vance Theory, Jack Parsons, Babylon Working, Marjorie Cameron, Moon Child, Aleister Crowley, Kenneth Grant, Lam, Aiwass, Golems, Homunculus, Paracelsus, Kabbalah, Sefer Yetzirah, Artificial Life, Consciousness Transfer, Soul Fragments, World Soul, Anima Mundi, Temple of Set, Thelema, UFO Religions, Disclosure, Twin Peaks, Epstein, Occult Technology, AI, Transhumanism, Alien Hybrids, Spiritual Vessels, Occult Symbolism

John Carpenter explained it best. We're all seated around a campfire. The storyteller says, the evil is. . .out there and points into the darkness. That's external horror. Think Jaws, The Birds, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now same scenario but the storyteller says the evil is. . .in here and points to us, our own hearts. That's internal horror. Think Black Swan, Psycho, Twin Peaks etc. Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill talks about the interesting differences and rhymes between external and internal horror movies. And how, ultimately, most great horror movies are a combination of both.
When Daughn Gibson disappeared, he left brief bursts of radio transmissions.EPs would suddenly appear on Bandcamp, taken down months later. Did that album even exist? It was an easy question to ask considering the noir, mysterious tone of his previous records. Gibson, bass-baritone sprawling out like a wounded animal moaning their last breaths, made three albums in the early 2010s that were too early. The sample based, country-indebted, Twin Peaks inspired misdirection and intrigued they all held gained Gibson a cult following before he stepped into the mist.Over a decade later, he's returned with the death-haunted, darkly hilarious Lake Mary not mysterious. Gibson plays with perverse beauty, a Vietnam soldier falling madly in love on a napalm strewn battlefield, a beer bottle to the head revealing a glimpse of heaven, a murderous nurse bestowing the “day of the pillow.” There's a version of Gibson who writes Raymond Carver or Flannery O'Connor short stories, balancing biting wit and desolation in equal measure. But we're lucky he pairs it with his dark, entrancing musical world. We talked with him below.

The Post Relevant Podcast is a secret brought to Earth through the wise Owl, handed off to a cadre of Hawks, red-eyed demon dogs, an army of Deer, an Air Force of Vultures, and borne to the foot of the the mystical Blue Heron, who blesses every episode and eventually drops them beneath the Blue Moon into the ears of local Rabbits. The Rabbits leave each episodes of the show on listener's doorsteps, wrapped inside an acorn shell encased in flower petals. Its a cottage industry, but very efficient!Twin Peaks: the Return: the DECODE returns with an interpretation of episode 9! Its a 'no-bells-and-whistles' soft reboot of our show, originally recorded in January 2025 at the beginning of the LA fires. Appropriate for a Twin Peaks podcast, and strangely synchronous for our current "Year of the Fire Horse" in 2026. Hosts Phil Ristaino and Justin Epifanio recount Justin's first-hand experience surviving the Los Angeles inferno. Then they go in deep into trying to explain TP:TR episode 9. Statements are made, like "Its a fucking morgue!" And they are not wrong. Cutting questions are posed, like "When did he lose his marbles?" Insights are given, like "When the dog got his cat's eyes?" Tammy poses. Chad huffs and puffs. William Hastings yearns for scuba diving and mixed drinks. All the while, the disembodied head and decapitated body of Major Briggs looms large, holds clues, and rings like a monastery bell. We discover much!Throughout the show, Phil recounts stories of being visited by different wild animals while exploring the city of Nashville TN. Its another trippy show! Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we grab our “They Live” glasses and descend down into Kane Parson's summer blockbuster horror hit: “The Backrooms” to explore its clever symbolic use of Jungian archetypes and Eastern mysticism to create a cerebral and spooky allegory with the same narrative depth we find in masterpieces like Kubrick's The Shining, Lynch's Twin Peaks or Owaku's Silent Hill 2 but with a retrowave drip that weaponizes nostalgia in a tour of the collective unconscious with obscure doorways straight into Buddhist hell. In the free side of the show we discuss Clark and the symbolism that haunts him, the Backrooms and his shadow; breaking down what it has to do with the infinite, changing and cyclical nature of the Backrooms itself. In the extended side of the show we discuss the Capn Carl, Tarot symbolism, the shadow of the retrowave aesthetic and how the Backrooms are a perfect allegory for the Bardos of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. TV time is very important for wrestlers, especially in the big promotions stateside. If you're regularly featured on a wrestling TV show, where all the main storylines and action are happening, that means you're in the mix and making a name for yourself, as opposed to just sitting in the back doing nothing or stuck in dark matches. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Angry216 (VOW Discord) get some TV time themselves by playing theme songs to some of their favorite TV shows. Shows discussed include Twin Peaks, The Wire, BoJack Horseman, In Living Color, Veronica Mars, Scrubs, KaBlam!, Halt and Catch Fire, and many more.
