Join host Nick Rouley and a slew of guests as they drink drinks, smoke smokes and listening to full albums and while BSing about the music or whatever. Often fairly inaccurate.
Ahoy hoy, black-clad youth and kinky goblins! Welcome to another spooktacular episode of Jam Sandwich. On today's installment I'm once again joined by my old friend Luca Cimarusti. As was the case the last time he was on the show, we over served ourselves a bit and things got loose. Some questionable opinions are definitely shared. The original plan was to listen to a couple of Ozzy albums, but instead we played a random assortment of songs that get us stoked for the season. We set a fire to our loins and our blood boils like lava. This episode is so hot your ears might experience turd degree burns. BOO! See, it's even frightening on the eyes! Somehow we didn't listen to Joy Division so maybe we'll do an entire episode on them in the near future. No promises, licker. Luca's current band Luggage has a new album out at the end of the month on Don Giovanni Records. Go grip it. Follow him on twitter at @LucaCimarusti and on instagram at @beer_man_official for more info and also pictures of grade a scumbaggery. Hey lickers! Welcome to another installment of your favorite toilet pig show, Jam Sandwich. On this 'sode, I welcome my lovely wife back to the show to discuss one of our favorite bands, ABBA. We do a decent job talking about the band, but we also get into a tizzy and as is usually the case when CJ comes on and we both get a little nasty. She even got in on the raunch this time. We're breaking her shyness and the freak is coming out. So if you're a diehard ABBA fan that somehow stumbled across this show, be prepared to hear about my b's* okay? If you're a frequent listener then rejoice, because I once again talk about my b's! Tuck in your bib cause this one gets messy. If you enjoyed this episode and would like an additional serving, I've laid virtual breadcrumbs around the web at these various locations: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast *Not what you're thinking, probably.
Hot dang, it's another installment of Jam Sandwich, babies! We've gotsa real juicy one for youse guys today. In the world of podcasting there's dream guests and then there's Josh Androsky. What can I say, I love to butter this beautiful man up! I've known this sweet prince for several years now and whenever our paths cross both laughs and consensual kisses are shared. He wanted to listen to Brian Eno's 1973 masterpiece Here Come The Warm Jets and I couldn't have been more on board. Surprisingly enough, we manage to stay pretty much on topic for a majority of the episode, aside from getting off track almost immediately. It does end up turning into a discussion of "great morning songs" towards the end. I also talk about my wife's gazungas. Look, I could go on and on but just know that Josh is one of my spiritual brothers and our energies are synced up which makes for great conversation. Dig in! For more Josh goodness, follow him on twitter and instagram at @shutupandrosky. If you're in LA and would like to get involved with DSA Los Angeles (of which Josh is a co-chair) follow them on twitter at @DSA_LosAngeles, gather some more information and make change happen. Greetings curbs dogs, ramp rats and skate betty's alike and welcome to another installment of Jam Sandwich. Much like JS053, this one is more of a radio show than a podcast. No guests, just your horned up stoner host to guide you through a magical journey of curated tunes. This episode is all about skate videos and the music that lies within their sacred walls. Any long time listener won't be surprised to hear this one as I mention skateboarding all the gosh darn time. Growing up I dedicated countless hours to playing with the useless wooden toys and consuming as many VHS tapes as possible. It was on these videos that I first heard The Minutemen, Souls of Mischief, John Coltrane and so many more. It really shaped my warped, sick mind. On JS060, I'm playing nothing but tracks that have appeared in videos of the years, along with assorted clips you might find amongst the ripping. If you miss out on my yappin', don't fret as I've got another new episode dropping on it's regularly scheduled time (haha, get it, cause I haven't regularly scheduled sh!t in a hot minute) this Tuesday. If you'd like to really indulge yourself, grab some more Jam Sandwiches that I've sprankled around the web at these various locations: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Ahoy hoy mateys and welcome back aboard the good sub that is Jam Sandwich! On today's episode, we're joined once again by good friend of the show Mike Conway! If you're a long time licker of the sammich, you're already familiar with Mr. Conway and what to expect during his visits. For example, we managed to bring up Skankin' Pickle within the first few minutes. Usually when Mike visits we tend to trail off topic, but today we're speaking about one of our all time favorite bands, The B-52's, so we kinda keep it on point in order to pay proper respects to the greatest group to ever emerge from the south. Also, Mike has been drawing again, despite the bad carpal tunnel syndrome that has been plaguing his 2017. In addition to being one of my best friends, he's one of my favorite artists and I suggest you check out the new "break room doodles" series he's been posting lately. Check out his instagram at @michaelfinnconway for da goods. Well shoot, Joe McAdam makes a quick return to the Palace of Sin for another hot steamy Jam Sandwich. This episode was recorded on May 18th, which also happened to be the same day Chris Cornell of Soundgarden passed away. Joe suggested we listen to Badmotorfinger to memorialize the fallen singer, but if I'm being perfectly honest I was never really much of a Soundgarden fan and I didn't wanna have the episode come off as a half assed eulogy. Instead I decided we should start with Gregg Allman's I'm No Angel and we give Gregg some lite ribbing. Then that dude had to go and die before I could release this episode, thusly completely going against my original intentions. Oy vey! Furthermore, the formatting is a little different on this one. It was done in a bit of a rush, so we don't focus on a full album or even singular artist. We play a bunch of random songs that we thought of in the moment, so you get a bunch of little insights on a whole slew of artists. It's kind of similar to our old show Revolutions Per Minute, so you get a taste of the past. Put a napkin in your collar and dig in!! Joe recently dropped a new video with Butt, so go check out Butt on it's youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1RAfouK5SOTiz1v7U8OpCQ Subscribe to Joe's analog twitter feed, which is delivered to you via snail mail, here: https://www.patreon.com/joemcadam Last, and in the case actually the least, get more Jam Sandwiches at these various world wide web locations: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Today's episode is a real doozey. Our old friend Farout returns to airwaves, bringing along with him his tourmate of the moment, Coolzey. We recorded this bad bish a while ago, but you're just getting it now because thats the way things go. My sincere apologies to Farout and Coolzey for not being timely. Coolzey specifically plugs a bunch of shows for the end of April, so thats fun to hear in June. As a new guest, Coolzey was given the reigns on what we'd be jammin' and to my delight he picked the Butthole Surfers. We discuss the history of the band and what made them such freaks. (Hint: drugs played a heavy role.) At this point the Goldschläger and weed were really flowing, so to keep things going we play everything from Britney Spears to the Angry Samoans. The conversation gets loose and butt stuff inevitably comes up, natch. Good fun! I guess that's it. Oh yeah, subscribe to the show why don'tcha? Hey lickers, I'm back! Sorry for the vacation; had a get little getaway. Just kidding, I got an HBO GO password from my parents, so I finally got to see The Wire. Now, 45 days later, the show has returned. I'm stoked to help reinstate the show with a fresh guest that I've wanted on since the beginning, Joe McAdam. Joe and I used to do a different podcast, Revolutions Per Minute, which was pretty similar to this one, until he moved out west. Mr. McAdam was in town for a brief spell and we squeezed in this recording at 2 AM, just a few hours before I had to drive him to the airport so he could return home to his beautiful wife. Spoiler alert: we're drunk and / or stoned. Since I love my sweet, dear friend, I let him pick the album we'd dig into this go around. He went with one of his favorites, Touchdown by Bob James. I was surprised to find I already knew his music way more than I'd anticipated. It legitimately caught me off guard, which you can hear from the first few notes. Anyway, it's good fun and it captures the vibe I seek to spread. Dig it! I mention that Joe is a Butt man, so go check out Butt on their youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1RAfouK5SOTiz1v7U8OpCQ Subscribe to Joe's analog twitter feed, which is delivered to you via snail mail, here: https://www.patreon.com/joemcadam Last, and in the case actually the least, get more Jam Sandwiches at these various world wide web locations: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
On today's installment of the show, I'm joined by my good friend Adam "Squirtzel" Hirzel. We're close friends in due thanks to the fact that we like a lot of the same music. We worked together in a record store and he's damn fine at that job. We discuss Link Wray's Three Track Shack period and how it's some of the finest American music ever recorded. Double damn fine! I also pick his brain over what its like to sling vinyl for a living and the many misconceptions that come with the job. One might describe this episode as being "highly informational" with a twinge of "stoner logic" and "secretly horny." If you'd be so kind, please SUBSCRIBE and give the show a good rating on itunes. Whoa, it's a bonus episode! You might be asking yourself "But Nick, sometimes you take a whole week off for no reason what so ever. Wouldn't it make sense to bank roll this thing over till next week, in case you get lazy again?" While that actually makes the most sense, no, I will not be doing that. I play by my own rules, babies. This is a very special episode without any guests. In fact, I barely talk on it. As a direct response to some recent feedback, I present you with an "All Last Songs" episode. Since so many of you seem to really enjoy that particular segment, I figured why not do it for an entire show? It's kind of like going to a fancy buffet and heading straight to the dessert table. Sure I want an omelette, but gimme dat cream puff swan first! I jump around through a bunch of genres, so if you don't like something, just fast forward a few minutes and see what's next. Or sit in it and suffer the joy! If you'd be so kind, please SUBSCRIBE and give the show a good rating on itunes. That would be just swell of you. Tell your friends about it. Sharing is caring! My, what a long strange trip this episode turned out to be! On today's show I'm joined by my old friend Luca Cimarusti. An accomplished musician (Luggage, Heavy Times, Catburglars) and music journalist, this proud Italian is one of my favorite people to discuss and argue the merits of our favorite albums. It's kind of crazy it took me so long to get him on the show because we go way back. We not only grew up in the same home town, but he's been roommates with my wife and I on numerous occasions. Tight bros from way back, to say the least. Over the course of the last year or two, each of us have found ourselves drawn in by the magnetism of the Grateful Dead after a lifetime of refusing to get on board. We both explain what finally broke through, how deep we've gone down the rabbit hole and what still hasn't managed to click. Who knows, maybe it'll change your perception of things too. If you'd be so kind to subscribe and give us a good rating on itunes, that would be just well of you. Ahoy, maties! Settle in and get ready for another large serving of Jam Sandwich. On today's show I'm joined by Drug Factory Press kingpin Ryan Duggan. As a former room/bandmate, we've spent a lot of time together and on this episode we get to catch up. We listen to Black Flag and the Minutemen while discussing Ryan's work, our shared histories and french kissing. Even though he's only in his early 30s Ryan has created a heavy body of work. If you're familiar with it, this is your chance to take a look at the man behind "all those dog's taking dumps." I highly encourage you to go buy some of Ryan's beautiful prints. Find it at ryanduggan.com, drugfactorypress.bigcartel.com and instagram.com/drugfactorypress/. If you'd be so kind to subscribe and give us a good rating on itunes, that would be just well of you. Hold onto your balls, it's an all new episode of Jam Sandwich! My good friend Brad VandenBerg returns so we could get down to 1981 Rick James classic Street Songs. He's a very kinky guest, the kinda that makes you call him dad-dah! He also created the Jam Sandwich corporate logo, so you know the man has good taste. We spent the afternoon at a brewery and I want to the good times going, so I picked up a Mary Jane single, he got some more suds puppies and what proceeded next is what you have before you. This is a pretty accurate capsule of me hanging out with one of my best buds. For the full experience: put on some jammy pants, warm up some pizza rolls and get comfy in a beanbag chair. The lava lamp just started to move... This episode is dedicated to /CURB DOGS everywhere. Holy schlitts, Jam Sandwich is now 50 deep. I've now been recording episodes of this show for a year, give or take a few weeks when I took a sabbatical. On this episode I'm joined once again by my good friend Kevin Goggin. He's the show's composer and he delivered an extra special treat for the special occasion. Today we listen to Devo's Duty Now For The Future, along with some other classic singles and deep cuts. Anyway, we discuss the band and the importance of recognizing Devolution as it takes places before our very eyes. Also Kevin's grandmother. So put on your power dome, plug in and get ready to understand my potato. Also, in the excitement of tings, I completely spaced on thanking Producer Dan in my big ups segment. The show wouldn't exist today had it not been for his kindness and inspiration, so go tweet at him at @friesenpoint and tell him you love him. He deserves it. Lastly, THANK YOU for listening! Be sure to tell all your friends about all the naughty fun we have here. For real, that'd be nice of you. Today's episode is all about redemption. Redemption podcast. Way back on JS005, I attempted to do a reggae episode, but I not only did massive bong rips, clouding my fragile mind, but my guests didn't know squat or even care for the genre. It's one of the best worst episodes. It took me a while, but I invited my good friend Ethan D'Ercole to join me for a proper discussion of Rock Steady. We spin one of his favorite albums, Alton Ellis's Sunday Coming along with a slew of classic singles. This is the second episode in a row were my guest and I actually talk about the music at length, so maybe the tide is turning. Ethan is a brilliant artist, having been in a ton of great bands while also being one of my favorite print artists in Chicago right now. I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to go to his website (http://www.ethandercole.com/) and pick up a print or two. That sh!t is absolutely gorgeous and will look lovely on your walls. Yeah mon! Close your eyes and make a wish, for there's much to celebrate! Today's VERY SPECIAL episode Jam Sandwich marks two wonderful occasions. I'm joined once again by my lovely wife Claire, but there's a bit of a twist. This was recorded at the Palace of Sin on Valentine's Day 2017 and as a romantic gesture, I promised my love that I wouldn't be overly pervy this time around as that's usually the case when she makes an appearance. Secondly, today is her birthday so I figured I'd drop a deuce on all y'all with two episodes this week. I feel kinda bad for taking last week off, so now you've got double the jam to double your fun. The queen was at the controls and she selected Fleetwood Mac's self titled album from 1975. I actually go into length about some of the band's history, while we also recount our personal take on the band and what they've meant to our relationship. Towards the end I kind of slip up and it get's a tad dirty. Oopsie! Be sure to share this episode with someone you love. Or just share it. Spreading your love of the show is like the fourth most fun thing you can do with your mouth. Subscribe and give us a good rating on itunes while you're at it. It would make my heart go a flutter. Thank you, my sweet lickers. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Friend of the show Marty DeRosa returns to the Palace of Sin for another thrilling installment of Jam Sandwich. Marty's pick of the week was N.W.A.'s 1988 debut classic, Straight Outta Compton. Along the way, we discuss the effect gangsta rap had on us as kids, particularly in regards to women's hygiene. It was educational to say the least. We were having such a good time that we kept chatting for a little bit even after the album wrapped. Some fun bonus stuff at the end too. HINT: It involves Daddy's!! Also, since there wasn't an episode last week (for no good reason this time) I'm gonna try to drop a deuce on all y'all this week, so be on the lookout for that. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
The world's finest guest returns as I once again sit down with my lovely wife for another thrilling installment of Jam Sandwich. It wasn't really planned, but I had a guest cancel so I figured why not bring in this sexy, educated woman once again? We listen to It's All Around You by Chicago's very own Tortoise, while I bombard her with nothing but cheeky innuendo. Who am I kidding, it's straight forward filth at times. We both throw out a few new knuckle tattoo ideas and discuss whether or not we did it on the futon that used to be in her mom's basement. SPECIAL NOTE: There's a weird echo on my vocals throughout this episode and I can't figure out why in the heck that happened. Neither could my friends that actually know what the f they're doing. It's really not that big of a deal and you can really only notice it when the music isn't playing. Kinda. It kind of comes and goes. WEIRD! Anyway, you should come to expect this kind of a thing at this point, right? It's free and still better than the audio on some more well known shows. Just sayin'. Grab an Old Style and a steamed dog, as my dear friend Meg MacDuff joins us for today's episode. Meg is an absolute ripper who's been shredding Chicago and beyond for well over a decade now. Our old bands used to play shows together, but these she's currently doing her thing in Bleach Party and Montrose Man, which I highly recommend you check out. We listen to the Jesus Lizard and the Exploding Hearts while discussing road pickles, meeting your heroes, and getting arrested for visiting the most haunted cemetery in Illinois. Meg rules and is such a funny person that it's upsetting it took this long to get her on the show. The wait is finally over, so dig in and savor it's tasty goodness. Holy smokies, Goodrich Gevaart is back in the Palace of Sin for another installment of Happy Hour Sam'mich Time. We had so much fun on last week's episode that I convinced Goody to keep the party going!! Hey... you party? That's good cause you're in the right place. Today we listen to the self titled, 1973 debut release from Betty Davis, which gets tings turned up real quick. I love this album and I think you will too. We're already kind of pervs, but that beacon of sexual empowerment really turns our cranks up to 11, if you catch my drift. Do I need to spell it out for you? Look, we get horny, okay? You have heard this show before right? No? Well, what a great place to start! Go ahead and subscribe, give the show a good rating on itunes and tell your friends. Thanks for that, I appreciate it. Now we can just focus on the horniness of it all. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Friend of the show Goodrich Gevaart returns to jam yer airwaves once again on this episode of THE 'WICH. We were supposed to focus on glam rock, but instead we both ended up grazing in the grass too long and Goody's inner chav came out. Then that chav wouldn't go away. This episode might as well be called CHAV TALK, which makes for a great knuckle tattoo now that I think about it. Anyhoo, we listen to mega creep Gary Glitter and the always bad ass Suzi Quatro. Slade sneaks a song in cause those dudes are sneaky buggers. Sweet little Ricky Wilde shows us how teenagers do it too. If nothing else, you get to hear two close friends reconnect after not seeing each other for several months and if this show is about anything, it's FRIENDSHIP. And dirty sex stuff. After a brief holiday break, my dear friend Mike Conway returns to the show to help me usher in a new year. In 2016, I really embraced the 7" so I figured we'd start 2017 with a bunch of classic punk 45s cause thats my sheee-it. As is tradition, Mike makes some incredibly outlandish statements and I react accordingly. On this episode we discuss George Michael's music videos, as well as the merits of record collecting and also waxing your scrotum. SUBSCRIBE and tell your lovely friends. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Jah humbug, lickers! On today's episode, I welcome back my lovely wife Claire to discuss some Christmas classics. It was also done in candle light, wrapped in blankets while drinking beers in our dining room. We talk about "wet slappies" and embracing snug season. This one is fun because it gets sexual. It'll warm your bones quicker than a big cup of hot cocoa! Put a marshmallow in it and throw on some baby powder cause it's time to stay in. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: jamsandwichpodcast.com || manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
I'm tickled pink to have my good friend Tommy McNamara on today's show. He's one of those folks who you can tell really loves music by hearing him talk about it. His very presence is straight up angelic. I love Tommy and I think you will too. Mr. Mac frequently does his "Unplugged" show in New York and I highly encourage you to go check him out. We listen to Dusty In Memphis and Pleased To Meet Me. It's good. You know what's not good? Cheap coffee. As I'm writing this, I'm drinking the worst coffee of my life, and it's seriously bumming me out. Tastes like dirt. One of my coworkers bought the cheap stuff even though it was on the company dime. Why would you do that, Adam? Seriously, what were you possibly thinking dude? Some people! Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Sure the whole world is on fire and all I can do is think about the impending apocalypse, but for today's episode I simply needed to blow off some steam by getting stoned to the bone and giggling like a wee little sex pig. As is becoming a reoccurring theme, I had a guest cancel last minute so I went back to Friesen Point Studios so that super producer Dan could join me AND do all the post work editting for me. Ain't I a lil' stinker? We listen to Devo's Duty Now For The Future and discuss Scott Bakula's massive crank. This topic leads me to discover a new sexual fantasy, which I hope my wife hears and then tries to make a reality. Also, Dan quit Facebook and talks about how the site practically begs you not to leave. F U FB!! Anyway, it's another episode and I hope this one makes you laugh cause we could all use a good laugh right now. Thanks for listening and remember to be kind to one another! Welcome back, lickers! On today's episode I'm joined by my good friend Brad VandenBerg. I've mentioned him on the show before and he created the Jam Sandwich logo, so know that it looks good because of this sweet man. On today's show, we dig into the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City because it's probably the best video game soundtrack ever. We barely scratch the surface, but then again it would be an 8 hour long episode if we crammed it all in. I mostly grill Brad about being a gamer because it's a world that intrigues and fascinates me. Throughout the episode we talk about some of our favorite video games, living off pizza & beer and coin the term "big tinies." If that doesn't work for you then I suggest you take it out and blow on it. FUN FACT: I was having tech issues for a solid hour before I was able to start recording, so I power smoked a bowl right before to chill out and ended up starting the whole thing off by saying "Did you miss me next show?" Sweet Jesus, this show will never not be amateur hour. Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Phew, we've finally made it to the end of Skatoberfest! I'm not gonna lie, it was somewhat exhausting doing all these extra episodes and I did it in the name of ska. Can't say I saw that coming when I started the show. Given that Marty started the series, we had to wrap things up with super producer Dan. I ventured back to Friesen Point Studios and let Dan pick out his favorite Mighty Mighty Bosstones album. Dude grew up LOVING this band and it's pretty clear as we get into it their history. We're gonna get back to regular programming again next week and fret not, I'm not gonna follow through with Dan's suggestion to do OurLadyPeacevember. No way in hell. Trick or treat, pound my meat, your dink is something good to beat! With Halloween just around the corner I felt like dropping a special treat in your goody bags, so I'm reissuing an early, Halloween themed episode of my old show Revolutions Per Minute. Prior to hosting Jam Sandwich, I did a similar show with my dear friend Joe McAdam (@joemcadam on twitter) and quite frankly I don't think many people heard it the first time around. I loved doing this show and I've mentioned it on the Sammy before. Well, this here is your chance to see what all the fuss is about. Its kind of cool to look back at this show now since the modern day Jam Sandwich rose from it's ashes. I recorded a new intro and stuff, so you can hear all about it once you get it going. In fact, quit reading this and go do that. Have a happy Halloween! Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: manontop69.com || jamsandwichpodcast.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
On this episode we're skanking right along with the third installment of Skatoberfest! My good friend Sara Bassick (Johnny & The Limelights, Summer Girlfriends) joins me as we visit Berkeley's own Operation Ivy's Energy, considered by many to be the very first ska-core album. We discussed our early punk roots, what the Boston scene was like for a young punk girl and how they've played a role in our values as adults. I also plug the hell out of my current favorite soda and rant on my hatred of suburban chain restaurants. This ones for the punks!! Jam Sandwiches can also be found at: manontop69.com || Twitter: @jamsandwichpod || Instagram: @jamsandwichpodcast
Trick or treat! This episode is kinda both? Welcome to a seasonal spread from Jam Sandwich. On today's episode you're given a crash course in history of the Misfits. Think of it as Cliff Burton's Notes, if you will. 'Fits 101, dudeguy. I've been sick as a dog this past week so I wasn't able to bring over a guest, but I figured now would be a good time to fully geek out on one of my favorite bands. I love them not just for their music, but their story is also so, so good. This episode was also recorded in the middle of the night and, due to my many illnesses, it's influenced by a real life pill cocktail. Congratulations, you've found the dumbest podcast ever made! It's a quickie (at 49 minutes), which is the perfect amount of time for you to make a scary jack-o-lantern. So find the biggest knife for the biggest pumpkin and get carving! Nope, you're not skallucinating, Jam Sandwich is back with part two of our Skatober festivities. As soon as I committed to this themed batch of episodes, I knew I had to invite Mike Conway back to the studio. After discussing 60s ska last week, we dive into the late 70s with the all time classic One Step Beyond from London's very own Madness. This album rules but since I know Mr. Conway is a skannoisseur I also asked him to bring in an assortment of his old ska 7"s. Given the choices, you better believe we jump straight into some Skankin' Pickle. So roll up the cuffs of your baggy trousers and move to the beat cause this episode is sure to skamuse your wildest fantasies! Editors note: Make sure yer ears are nice 'n' clean before listening to this episode, cause your auditory senses are about to get filled to the brim with all kinds of jam! My good friend (and, I swear to Jah, one of the greatest stand up comedians ever) Mike Lebovitz joins me as we listen to the Silver Jews American Water LP. Mike's got great taste, so I was pleased as punch to get him on the show to BS, as we do. We stay on topic and talk 90s indie nuggets. I then proceed to play some assorted 90s hits at the end to fill things out. Last, but certainly now least, the show closes with the newest Rocket From The Crypt song, which I don't think is available on the internet at the time of the original air date. Go listen to that sucker in all it's glory cause RFTC fahking rules. Plug in, then when you're done, take the plug out. Just be safe when dealing with plugging. Glückliche Skatoberfest! Back in August I complained on air about the frequency in which ska is brought up on the show. Friend and frequent guest Marty DeRosa suggested I embrace the phenomenon and dedicate a full month to the genre, thus Skatoberfest was born. All October long, I'll be releasing a special Skatoberfest themed episode, each and every Thursday, along with the usual Tuesday drops. I'm really gonna try my best to play some brilliant ska music because it's out there and it doesn't deserve the wrath it so commonly receives, but to be fair, there's gonna be some crap too. We gotta get around to the 90s at some point. In this first installment, Marty joins me as we dig into the music of Prince Buster and Jamaican super group The Wailers. Pull up your lederhosen braces and skank to the beat! PROST!!
Like Iggy Pop in the 1980's, this episode is a real wild child. I'm FINALLY joined by one of my best friends in the world, Chris "Irish Eyes Are Smiling" Moran. I spelled his name differently in the title because A. he's a teacher and quite frankly I don't want any of his students to discover this naughty show and B. he sometimes calls himself Curtis Morgan. I'm not sure why, but it pleases me so. But wait, that's not all. My lovely wife Claire once again joins us in the studio because she not only lives here at the Palace of Sin, but she's also super tight with Mr. Morgan. He actually lives in the apartment above ours so we all hang out constantly, often spinning wax. This episode is the closest I can possibly get to capture shooting the sh*t at my place on a Friday night, cause that's when we laid this bad motha down. Best of all, we listen to Morrissey! FINALLY!! So many personal Jam Sandwich fantasies are being fulfilled in dis bish. We spin Viva Hate and Vauxhall & I, which would've likely happened had the microphones been on or not. Our love of Steven Patrick is apparent and maybe we'll seduce you into joining us and opening your heart to the mysterious Moz. JS030: laughing to stop yourself crying.
Hello friends and possible enemies! Welcome to another thrilling installment of Jam Sandwich. Today's show is so fresh it hasn't had time to cool, as it was recorded at the last possible minute. I'm joined by the ever so lovely Sarah Shockey as we dig into Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual and some assorted 45s I had laying around by the turntable. Her positive energy adds a touch of elegance to a show that is usually made for and by disgusting pigs. Go check out her show Marty & Sarah Love Wrestling, which is easily the best wrestling podcast in all the land. She's doing some fine work over there with that lovable horny boy Marty DeRosa. Quit horsing around and just listen to the dang episode already, mmmk? Oh wait, we're also on twitter now at @jamsandwichpod and instagram at @jamsandwichpodcast. Like us on facebook, subscribe to the show and pawn your grandma's jewelry for hookers. I'm okay with you only doing two of the three. It's not ideal, but I can handle it because I'm an understanding gentleman. On with the show...
EDITOR'S NOTE: If you downloaded this episode before 9/22/16, go ahead and get it again as I pumped up the volume. Sorry for the trouble! My good friend (and the composer of our theme song) Kevin Goggin returns to the ultra high frequencies of Jam Sandwich! This episode was recorded at 1 AM so we may or may not have already had a few. We dig into some power pop classics, spinning both the Raspberries and the Vapors, while discussing Chicago's best hot dog stands, our OG AOL screen names and the merits of taking your young lover to an empty baseball dugout. We present some actual facts about the records for a change. Also, the show is now on Instagram, so go follow the us at @jamsandwichpodcast for some heavy visuals. In the meantime, subscribe to the show not because I told you to, but because it's what you desire. La-di-da-di-da.
After several technical hiccups, Jam Sandwich is finally broadcasting from my new studio, the Palace of Sin. I say "hiccups" because I recorded an episode with our good friend Goodrich Gevaart, but then I fudged something in post and lost the audio. Durr... So, in a tight jam, I invited my beautiful wife to get up off the couch and join me for another session, despite the fact that she was just on the show. No Super Producer Dan this time around, but his spiritual presence helped guide us towards the light. This episode also marks a new edition to the show, as I'm able to plug my turn table in so we can listen to vinyl. This means guests can bring over their favorite records and we'll blast it on air. I'm stoked to say the least! To break in this momentous occasion, we give Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 a spin while I may or may not get a little too sexual with my better half sitting across the table. Since it's just the two of us, sitting in our home, having drinks on a Sunday evening, you get a real sincere portrait of domestic bliss. I also push the boundaries of acceptable dialogue and at one point my wife is literally just screaming the word "DIVORCE" over and over again. If at any point you feel like things get uncomfortable, just know that after the show we totally made up. Sexually. Join us won't you?
After taking an unplanned holiday last week, Jam Sandwich returns in classic form. On today's episode, Super Producer Dan and I break in the all new Friesen Point Studios after I botched my first attempt with home recordings. We listen to The Cure and Joy Division, talk about our sexual awakenings, and briefly contemplate time. There's a few little glitches in this one, but you probably won't even notice. If anything, it just goes to show whatta scrappy lil' show I run for you, the people. If there's one thing I want everyone to take away from this one it's "Respect the space of others, you stupid licker." Oh and go 'like' the facebook page cause I found a scan of the page from Madonna's sex book (mentioned in the episode) which I will include in the posting. You'll dig it.
Today's guest is my best one yet because after the show was finished, I got to go home and fornicate with them. For the 25th episode I asked my wife Claire to join me at Friesen Point Studios to discuss our favorite shared band, Belle and Sebastian, along with the two songs that played during our wedding and some other crap. I have to wonder if I sound different considering my better half is on the show. Early on Claire suggests that listeners might get exposed to my "more sensitive side" but I'm not sure how true that is given my bride's natural gift for toying with my libido. Either way, she's an absolute sweetheart and I love her with all that I got. In fact, from now on, I'm gonna be sensitive as fcuk. All feelings, all the time, from here on out. This episode of Jam Sandwich is best enjoyed with a saucer full of milk, so lick it up kitties.
Today's guest has many titles. If you've seen him perform stand up comedy, you might know him as Sammy Arechar. Perhaps you know him by his work on the ones and twos as Yung Zucchini. His mother calls him her "sweet prince." The Milwaukee native joins us today and he brought with him I Need A Haircut by Biz Markie. Such a solid album. Thanks Yung ZUCCH! When that wraps up we play the 1999 EP A2G by Blackalicious. We also drink A LOT of beers on this one. Count the can cracks and guess who went the hardest. The odd turn with this episode is Sammy is such a nice young man and it's probably the dirtiest episode yet. I apologize in advance for the fact that I keep talking about that one thing. Ugh, I'm so ashamed I'm trying to be discreet here in the details. I should change the name from Jam Sandwich to The Greasy Toilet Pig Fcuk Show. Anyway, to see the video Sammy mentions, go check out our page on Facebook (search 'Jam Sandwich Podcast') and throw it a like while you're there. Feel free to subscribe and give us a good review on iTunes too cause it helps more people find the show. I'd do it for you. Throw some cheese on that betch.
Before you read further, make sure that your listening device isn't bugged. Ever since Wikileaks exposed what a chill show this is, we've been monitored by several world leaders, in addition to other top secret organizations. Today's episode really ups the ante too, as we've got a crossover program with That's What They Want You To Think. Conspiracy theorists / curious little boy toys, Dan Friesen and Marty DeRosa join me for a frank discussion regarding several well known conspiracies that revolve around the music industry. Life and death hoaxes, secret societies, reptilian lizard overlords, phony impostors and more. I fear that I've already said too much and exposed you to the truth. If it's at all possible, I would suggest listening to this episode a good 500 yards below sea level. It's the only way to know that they're not watching and listening... The flavor of jam this Tuesday is raspberry. I repeat, the flavor of jam this Tuesday is raspberry. If you are still reading this: send help! I truly believe I'm being watched and the world is being run by evil beings, who are brainwashing us into destroying each other. This is not a dream.
Holy fkcinug siht, today's Jam Sandwich is gonna take you sweet babies straight to the top! For numero duece duece we're bringing y'all our first ever split episode. A real twofer Tuesday, if you will. Up first, friend of the show Goodrich Gevaart returns after having relocated to sunny Los Angeles and he brings with him a smattering of his favorite LA punk classics. We start to have a real intimate moment until super producer Dan steps in and essentially takes a dump in my mouth. Up next, we welcome to the show Boston Hardcore LEGEND Tommy Crowbar of the band Street Justice. We hear about Tommy's bucket list of murder and the merits of throwing a boot party. We also listen to the Gorilla Biscuits self titled 7" because it rules. You're gonna like the way this episode makes you feel, I guarantee it. For another serving of jam sammies dig through the digital crate that is our back catalog, subscribe and like us on facebook, even though its worse than anything found on the dark web. Warning: This show contains super naughty ideas and listening almost 100% assures your eternal damnation in the fiery pits of hell.
Prepare yourself, as you're likely to catch a second hand Rocky Mountain High on today's episode of Jam Sandwich! My guest today is Denver comedian Zach Reinert and he's tastier than ice cream edibles found within his hometown's finer dispensaries. I've known Zach for a number of years now and his one liner game is stronger than Magnús Ver Magnússon flipping giant tires. Take a peek behind the curtain of his madness as we discuss things like horror films and how root beer gets made (hint: it's with your feet.) We groove to the sonic sounds of Radioactivity and Jay Reatard, while I explain to super producer Dan why three actually is the magic number. Put the metaphorical needle down on this one and let 'er rip!
Boy howdy, have we gotta dinger of an episode in store for you! On today's Jam Sandwich, I'm once again joined by super producer Dan Friesen and I pass him the reins as we listen to one of his favorite albums: Blood, Sweat and Tears self titled album. Over the course of the long player, we discuss the first 20 episodes of the show and what the future might hold, which might involve more cassette tapes. I tell a story about enjoying a random pair of found poopy underpants in Milwaukee this past weekend. I seriously can't wait for you to hear how much I loved these stained whitey tighties! We wrap things up with a hatred of punks. This one not uncool. Bring on the roaring 20s!! Subscribe, submit, and order squid!!
One of my favorite aspects of running this show is it often presents the opportunity for me to kick it with good friends that I don't get to see very often. Such is the case today as I'm joined by thee ever so handsome Derek Smith. Derek is one of my favorite comedians to watch live and we used to run a show together at the Hideout Inn. There's history here folks! On today's episode, my ADHD is at an all time high and we don't really get all that into the music even though we listen to heavy hitters like the Kinks and the Pixies. Instead, we tell stories about how much fun it is to be scared / frighten others, even if it means physical retaliation from our victims. Once again, Goldfinger is somehow brought up. That's gotta be an all time podcast record and we're not even 20 episodes deep. Listen, subscribe, and rate the dickens out of it on iTunes. Real talk, this show is free, so help a brother out. You're the best!
Reunited and it feels so good. I often wonder if the listeners of this show miss me as much as I miss them when we're apart. The world may never know. Anyway, we're joined today by a man with too many credits, Zach Peterson. We get into one of Zach's favorite artists Neil Young and discuss his infamous ditch trilogy, the current state of "classic rock" radio and the merits of fishing. Need more? Well, we've also got more listener questions and arguing with super producer Dan. You know the deal with this audio finger food. Lastly, of Zach's many titles, it's worth mentioning that he's one of the producers of The Comedy Exposition, a delightful Chicago comedy festival taking place once again this year, July 21st through the 24th. It's only a few weeks away, so get down on it. Lick up it like a saucer full of milk. Do summer right and take a nap outside. Don't wear a shirt. Get a weird tan. Just live your life, goshdarnit.
Fresher than a strong mimosa, I've got a naked Marty DeRosa! Real talk though, Marty is back on Jam Sandwich and this time he's extra nude. If you don't believe me and want visual proof, hit me up on twitter (@slingernick) for the outtakes. Things heat up fast and inevitably we all get horny. It's kind of our "thing." On a horniness scale of "limp wiener" to "rocket ride" this episode is ready for take off. Additionally, we take listener question's live on air and continue to expose dark secrets from producer Dan's mysterious past. Episodes with these two dudes are always the most fun. It's so much fun that you'll want to subscribe and tell all your friends. Or at least your therapist. Actually, do that instead. I would love it if I built up a huge shrink fan base. Please help me achieve my dream. NOTE FROM JamSam: This episode initially went up with some glitches. It's now been fixed, so if you subscribe or have issues with your download, delete the old one and get it again now that it's been fixed. We deserve nice things. EXTRA FAT: If you enjoyed this one and wanna keep the party going, Dan and I recorded an episode of Friesen Point (Episode 316) immediately after this one wrapped and we're clearly much looser than we were here. It gets messy, but in the best way possible. Go on, git it!
Take off your shirt. Now take off your shoes and socks. Next, remove your bottoms. Throw on some shades. Pour yourself a tequila. Sit in the breeze or in front of an oscillating fan. Kick your feet up. Now that we're good and cozy, get down with comedian Stephanie Hasz on an all new episode of Jam Sandwich. Steph is one of my best friends in the whole wide world and she means a lot to me, but that certainly doesn't stops us from bickering with each other, as heard here. Today we get into some bossa nova, revisiting Marcos Valle and his mentor Antonio Carlos Jobim. Super producer Dan and Stephanie do a great job proving that I don't always know what I'm talking about; probably cause of the drugs (prescription and recreational.) We also have our very first sponsor! I'm not even gonna say that this episode is "good," it's straight up HISTORIC! Tell your friends and family. Or call your parents, just to say hello. Ask how they're doing and actually listen to them. Be nice. Then get back into the tequila. You deserve it.
Send up a smoke signal and gather your heady friends; it's an all new episode of Jam Sandwich! Today I'm joined by Indyground artist Farout, who also just so happens to be an old friend of our producer, Dan Friesen. We literally met minutes before recording the show, but through our mutual love of the devil's lettuce and solid funk jams, we were shooting the shit like old friends in no time. On this episode we spin George Clinton's Computer Games and guzzle a ton of beer I stole from my dad. Put it in, leave it in and chug something cold cause now is the time to get choogled!!
Today's episode is brought to you by supreme love. I'm joined by super producer Dan Friesen (Friesen Point / That's What They Want You To Think) as we dig into one of my all time favorite albums, Blue Train || BLP 1577. St. John Coltrane's divine sound has always perked my ears towards the heavens; shining light on the dark, confusing path which we call life. I tried to capture a little bit of that vibe with JS014. Turn off all your lights expect for that one dim lamp, open the windows and feel the cool breeze kiss your cheeks as you settle in with another cozy episode of Jam Sandwich.
On today's episode I'm joined by my good friend Conor Sullivan. We don't always see eye on eye in regards of personal taste, but no one plays from their heart quite like Conor. He's so genuine in everything that he loves, that you can't help but admire him for it. Luckily, we both have a very sincere affection for Jonathan Richman, which we dig into today; which leads us down a nostalgia rabbit hole. Bring a carrot and join us, won't you?
