2020 American comedy web television series
POPULARITY
"Brews Brothers" is a Netflix sitcom that premiered on April 2020. The series follows the exploits of two estranged brothers, Wilhelm and Adam Rodman, who reunite to run a brewery. The central theme revolves around sibling rivalry and the challenges of running a business with family. The show also delves into the inner workings of craft beer culture, which over the last decade has been on a constant rise. The show also takes advantage of its straight to streaming home by using a lot of language that wouldn't fly on network television. The show received mixed to negative reviews from critics, which likely played a significant role in its short lifespan. Many felt that the humor relied heavily on crude jokes and lacked creative writing. Despite centering around a passionate hobby such as craft beer there didn't seem to be enough substance in the scripts to lure in the show's targeted fanbase Will the S1E1 guys who are known to also have a somewhat crude humor enjoy this one? Listen as they deep dive Brews Brothers pilot episode, "The Brothers Rodman". The pilot episode in what promises to be one of the most influential podcasts of your lifetime. Most people only explore the selections that Netflix lays out for you. We get it. We're lazy too. However, that is why we are here. Turns out most streaming services have a virtual "Library of Congress" of untapped proportions, and we're ready to check out. This week we discuss the @NETFLIX offerings, Brew Brothers, Hardcore Henry, and Blaze. Reach out to us on Twitter: @going_streaming
On this week's episode, we spoke with Greg Schaffer, who is the creator of the hilarious Netflix show "Brews Brothers." Our conversation covers the making of the show, behind-the-scenes stories and info, and industry insight that Greg has gained from working on other shows such as "The League" on FX. We also talk about his Michigan Wolverines, Dallas Cowboys, and Cleveland Indians, plus how and why he's forgiven LeBron James for leaving the Cavaliers the first time.
This week on Business Over Beer, we welcome big time Hollywood (Assistant) Director, Jason C. Brown. He shares with us how he went from a Zoology degree at Miami University of Ohio to working on some of the biggest shows in Hollywood. Most notably, Jason has been the First Assistant Director on Drunk History and has directed the short films Panic Button, Imaginary Friends and soon to be released Meet Cute. Other credits include Brews Brothers, The Mindy Project, NCIS LA, Awkward and Medium, among many others. We get a little sneak peek into what it's actually like working in Hollywood, the actual "work", not the perceived glitz and glam. Prost! In this episode: Jason talks about the "Midwest work ethic", and how that helped him stand out when he was getting started. Preparation is key to success in any industry; Nothing ever goes as planned, so everyone on set, on a team, in a business, has to have some element of thinking outside the box. Plan for all contingencies, see it before it happens and respond. Networking. Do it (That's it, that's the whole bullet point). Don't say "No" to any job that might help you learn your craft or industry. There's learning to be had from all situations; Learn from the good AND the bad directors/managers/business owners you work with. Don't be afraid to tell people what you want and go for it. Guest Beer: Boulevard Brewing - Kansas City, MO Jam Band Berry Ale, 5.9% ABV, 6 IBU "Accompanying a simple malt base, blueberry, raspberry and tart cherry play in perfect harmony to create a slightly tart ale that sings with ripe, bursting fruit flavor. Aromas of dark berries, citrus and melon open the show, bridging to zippy fruit flavors that meld into an easy-drinking summer beer worthy of an encore." Angie's Mystery Beer: Stone Brewing - Escondido, CA Enjoy By 07.04.20 IPA, 9.4% ABV, 90 IBU "For this version of Stone Enjoy By IPA we thought: “We don’t always have a filter, so why should our beer?” By skipping a step and letting this devastatingly fresh, golden-hued double IPA go unfiltered, the beer takes on a hazy appearance and its peach and tropical fruit hop aroma are intensified. So though it may sound like it, this missed step was no misstep." Episode Links: Jason C. Brown IMDB Panic Button - Short Film Directed by Jason C. Episodes 5-6 of Netflix's "Brews Brothers" and the review of the go to frat boy special Natty Light.
Writer, director and producer Jeff Schaffer worked on some of the biggest TV shows of all-time. He was a writer on Seinfeld and is a writer, director and producer on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well as one of the co-creators of The League. During our wide ranging interview, he talks about his new Netflix show that he made with his brother called Brews Brothers, working with Lil Dicky on the FXX show Dave and how he came up with the idea of the Festivus pole.
It's the end of an era as Hop Nation USA wraps up the beating of the dead horse known as Netflix's Brews Brothers with a cavalcade of guest stars including Jason Cercone of the After Poured Youtube show, Dennis of FirstSipBrewBox.com; Nikki, Eric, and Tom of ALittleTasting.com, Sean on In Poor Taste Podcast, and returning guest host Kelsey. We review ep. 3-4 of Brews Brothers, Fall into the rabbit hole with Trappist Monks, and review Bad Sons Beer Co. "Veruca's Demise", a Gose Ale brewed with cranberries.
This week we stream a bunch of Netflix pilots, including Midnight Gospel, Brews Brothers, and I Am Not Okay With This. We also talk not-so-briefly about The Last Dance, a sports documentary about the '90s Chicago Bulls that will be coming to Netflix this summer. Man, Netflix produces a lot of content.
This week Sean from the In Poor Taste Podcast leaves his pocket dimension of torture to drink some beers and be tortured in a different way by Steve and Adam. Sean learns about wet and dry hopping, the discuss the Black is Beautiful beer initiative, and touch on the little news available about Fresh Fest going digital. Then Sean offers a unique perspective on the final episode of Brews Brothers, while Steve maintains his general hatred for the show, and Adam is just relieved it's over. Tom, Pittsburgh area homebrewer and co-coordinator of the Little Beer Tasting Group, joins Adam and Steve to talk mostly about homebrewing in the time of quarantine. We highlight the Terrestrial Brewing Company's donation to their local homebrewing group, what Tom's been brewing and where he's been getting his ingredients, and the plans for the online Homebrew Con. We also talk about the possible coming replacement for Brews Brothers, then new Amazon series Poured in PA based off the movie. We also go in depth into the Untappd Beer Festival and the Great American Beer Festival shifting to online solutions. Is the virtual beerfest the latest craze waiting to happen? Is $90 worth the price of having a Stay at Home tasting of beers you wouldn't normally have access to? Jason Cercone of BreakingBrews.com returns and finally isn't forced to talk wrestling with Adam and Steve. He is however forced to talk about Episode 5 of Brews Brothers. But first, they talk about the hot (cool? cold?) new trend in PA of alcoholic slush machines in beer distributors. The latest is a 20 tap wall at Shangy's. Then they discuss City Brew Tours pivoting their business model to include virtual beer & cheese pairings and homebrewing classes. Insurrection is getting a new taproom. Americans take their freedom for granted, again, as South Africa is plunged into chaos over total prohibition of beer and cigarette sales. Then it's time to review the fifth episode of Netflix's 20th biggest regret, Brews Brothers. Things have changed though. In every dark cloud, there is a silver lining or some crap. This week's silver lining to the quarantine is we were actual able to get First Sip's Dennis and Sam on the same episode for the first time... even if they've never been in a room together. Steve and Adam are also present to drink beer, and they all talk about the emergence of the virtual beerfest. The first one they've heard of is being put on by Gathering Place brewery for their 2nd Annual Lager & Friends. Then they go down a rabbit hole of discussing how to improve beerfests for a corona world. Parades, pick up trucks, uber drivers, and drink at home concerts all get involved. Then it's on to reviewing Episode 4 of Brews Brothers. Dennis has only seen this episode and Sam has seen every episode. Both come to the same conclusion. However slight improvements in the show maybe slowly eroding Steve's hardened exterior and hatred for the show. Find out more on this episode of Hop Nation USA! Like you, we've been inside for weeks now but somehow we're still watching movies and shows to let you know what's worth your time. We start with "Robert the Bruce" which continues the story told in "Braveheart." You liked that movie, right? But will you like this one? We also look at the Netflix series "Giri/Haji," which translates to "Duty/Shame" and is about a Japanese detective searching for his Yakuza connected brother in London. Neil talks about "Better Call Saul" and "Ozark." While Bill McCuddy talks about the new HBO movie "Bad Education" which premieres this weekend and stars Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney. Bill Bregoli looks at the Netflix comedy series "Brews Brothers." But there's so much more including the recent "One World Together" benefit show. So give us a listen!
This week on the Broken Speaker Podcast we are taking a look at the latest 30-minute sitcom from Netflix, Brews Brothers. Join Brian and Greg as they discuss some of the latest news in the internet streaming or quarantine movie-marathon world, then go over what they enjoyed... or didn't... about Brews Brothers!

Was gibt es neues? Die Auswirkungen der Corona Krise flachen nicht ab und so müssen wir uns von einem baldigen Release von „The Last of Us 2“ verabschieden. Gregg Schaffer is our guest today on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras. Gregg Schaffer and his brother Jeff are the creators of Brews Brothers, a new comedy series starring Alan Aisenberg and Mike Castle, that debuts on Netflix this coming April 10. The show is about a couple of brothers who own a craft beer taproom. Here is all the information about the show and the official trailer, on the Netflix site. You can also check out the Brews Brothers trailer on YouTube, here. There are 8 episodes coming out all at once, on April 10. Herlinda tells how Gregg and Jeff really are brothers who love beer and who have a long pedigree in the TV business. Gregg did research up the west coast, visiting places like Lagunitas and Anderson Valley. Jeff has been a writer on numerous successful TV shows. Brews Brothers is a funny show and they will be doing promotions in a fun way. Gregg Schaffer joins the conversation on the phone. "I've been doing research all my life," as he states his credentials for a show about beer. The show is about two estranged brothers who get together to open a brewery. Each is a different kind of beer genius. They know lots about beer and "absolutely nothing about anything else." Gregg tells that there are plenty of goofy personalities around brewing to inspire the script, including themselves. The field is ripe for comedy. One brother, Will, loves any type of beer but is horrible with business. The other brother is the beer snob. Steve adds that he has interviewed practically everyone in brewing in northern California and speaks from experience, "they're funny." The 8 episodes of the first season of Brews Brothers premiers on Netflix on Friday, April 10.

Alcohol can be an amazing thing. Over many years it has seen its ups and downs with the general public, but after enough women were beat up by their drunken husbands and fortunes were lost, the United States tried prohibition. It didn't last. But did it work? Couple of friends hanging out on Skype talking about shit that makes them think and makes them laugh. Don't forget to subscribe on your way out.
