Get tickets to QuakeCon, August 8th to the 10th, 2024: https://quakecon.bethesda.net/en/ This is Kenneth Vigue and I just want to say, I miss you….we all miss you. I wanted to give everyone a positive update on our life situation. As many of you longtime listeners know, our financial situation these past several years has not been great. Like many of you, we have been no strangers to struggle, living paycheck to paycheck and I've been working 7 days a week trying to keep us afloat, crushed by debt that began with long term mental healthcare for my husband Travis for a debilitating condition called C-PTSD and co-occurring conditions. So many of you have reached out, no strangers to either suffering through no fault of your own with mental health or who serve as caregivers for someone does. Everyone's support over the years has meant the world to us and finally we have hope. Next month we finish a cross country move after finally selling our house, eliminating our debt completely and putting us in a much better living situation. We'll be living in Texas, and after just getting back from there after signing on a new house for us I do have to say I have never eaten so well. Once this move is completed by July 16th, I'll be free both mentally and financially to be far more consistent with writing and editing. More of my free time spent in panic mode drumming up work will be mine again, and I can't wait to get back to telling stories in Fallout 76 and beyond. So don't worry…I'm not stopping. I also want to share something exciting: I'll be at QuakeCon in August, from the 8th to the 11th in Grapevine Texas and I would love to see any of you who may be going. It's a truly spectacular event, panels, a truly epic LAN party in the BYOC. Though the convention may have started being all about Quake, today it is the largest yearly convention run by ZeniMax Media, and a celebration of all its studios and games. If you're nearby or are planning to attend, it's well worth a visit, and even if you can't, Bethesda usually has a series of live streams from the event at Twitch.TV/Bethesda. Tickets start at just $16.50 for a day pass or if you want to bring your own computer and grab a spot in the LAN BYOC, you can grab those tickets for $75. Again, I really miss you…I miss this. I'm so excited and frankly relieved for the next chapter in our personal life, but also the brighter horizons of my creative one. Care for yourself, take time to get out and see the world this summer. Unplugging for a while is chicken soup for the soul, it broadens the mind, declutters our thinking and allows less of the shadows to gain purchase. I'll be back in a few months, but I hope to see you in the Wasteland.

Welcome to the seventy-second episode of the Lessons from the Cockpit show! I'm your host Mark Hasara, former KC-135 pilot and aviation geek! My wife Valerie and I attended Air Mobility Command's Airlift Tanker Association 2023 Symposium at the Gaylord Texan resort in Grapevine Texas. The A/TA Convention aero and cyberspace Industry Exposition was fantastic and I wanted to mention a few things I experienced while walking the Industry Floor... like the Remote Vision System 2.0 now being retrofitted in the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus tanker. General Mike Minihan, commander of Air Moility Command gavve an incredile speech on the status of the Mobility Air Forces or MAF. Did you know airlifters now have the capaility to become strike aircraft with new palletized weapons systems? The Lessons from the Cockpit show is supported by the ook Tanker Pilot, now on Genneral Mike Minihan's Leadership Library reading list. Tanker Pilot gives you a behind the scenes look at the planning and execution of air refueling operations during four wars and numerous other global evvents. Thirty-two pictures taken are included, taken during the events descibed in the book. Our show is also supported by Wall Pilot, custom aviation art for the walls of your home, office, or hanger. There are 138 Ready-to-Print extremely detailed and exhaustively researched aircraft profiles of famous aircraft from World War II to modern fifth generation fighters and bombers. Wall Pilot creates custom aircraft profile drawings of your favorite aircraft with your name, tail number, flying unit, and weapons load in four, six, and eight foot long vinyl prints you can peel off and stick on any flat purpose. One of the aircraft profiles auctioned off for the A/TA Scholarship fund was this 60th Air Mobility Wing KC-10A Extender from Travis Air Force Base. Aircrews, maintainers, and loaders signed a copy of this print for auction which was sold to a collector of custom aviation art. The other aircraft profile auctioned off for the A/TA Scholarship fund was the 437th Airlift Wing C-17A Globemaster III named "Spirit of the Candy Bomber" in memorial of Colonel Gail Halvorsen, the Berlin Candy Bomber who passed away at the age of 101 last year. General Mike Minihan attended the memorial service for Colonel Halvorsen last summer to rename C-17A tail 87-7178 "Spirit of the Candy Bomber". General Mike Minihan was the previous commander of the 19th Airlift Wing located at Little Rock Air Force Base Arkansas. This C-130J is assigned to the Air Force Reserve Component based at Little Rock AFB. The best assignement of my Air Force career was flying with the 909th Air Refueling Squadron out of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa Japan. The 909th flew both KC-135A and -135R Models while I was assigned to the unit for five years in 1990 through 1995. Attending Tailhook 23 this past August I brought this F-14D Tomcat print of BANDWAGON 101, the VF-31 Squadron Skipper Commander Paul Haas personal jet he flew during Operation Iraqi Freedom's Shock and Awe air campaign. My very good friend Captain Steve "Moose" Laukaitis was the Deputy Carrier Air Wing Commander of CAG Eight during the Shock and Awe air campaign and this was the VFA-87 War Party F-18C+ Hornet in his Air Wing on USS Theodore Roosevelt. This has been the toughest video I've ever had to make. We wanted to share why I've decided to resign from my job as Director of Evangelization and Catechesis at our church and what's next for us. If you've been following along, thank you so much for the support and encouragement along the way. What started as a fun creative outlet has taken on a much bigger role in how our family feels called to live as missionary disciples in our city, Grapevine TX. The patreon has evolved over the years as the mission and focus has evolved. First it was to support producing a video-podcast, then it was to get into a studio, and now it's getting even bigger - sharing our journey of building a mission-driven space and community. If you thought I was making lots of crap for the internet before, just you wait to experience full time freelancer Edmund. It's gonna get weird. And good. It was scheduled to take place along the historic Main Street in Grapevine September 17-20th. 45 Texas wineries would have been on hand for the festival that attracts more than 260,000 visitors. You can just imagine the economic impact that this cancellation has on the businesses that usually participate.Although I just live about 20 miles away to Grapevine, I go wine tasting in the Texas Hill Country more frequently than I go to Grapevine. I suspect I’m not the only one.I thought the cancellation of GrapeFest was a good reason to take a fresh look the Texas wine culture in Grapevine. After all, Grapevine’s Convention and Visitors Bureau says Grapevine has been a hub for wineries and wine culture for 25 years.I found some bright spots that I’m excited to share with you. And I’ve got a feeling Grapevine might be a place to watch in the years to come.Although its population is only 54,000 residents, Grapevine lives like a bigger city. Grapevine’s proximity to DFW airport, 21 hotels and 11,000 hotels rooms makes Grapevine a popular spot for conventions. Tourism is huge here. There are plenty of activities for families including Nash Farm, SEA LIFE Grapevine, and Great Wolf Lodge. There’s a lot of development on the horizon for Grapevine. This summer, a huge public-private partnership will be completed downtown. It includes a commuter rail line that will connect to DFW airport and downtown Fort Worth. On September 3, the Hotel Vin will open its doors. That’s a 120-bed boutique hotel that’s part of the Marriott family. It will brings with it new dining options including a signature fine dining restaurant and a food hall that features 7 kitchens and 2 bars.Hotel VinSo big things are happening in Grapevine, but where does the Texas wine fit in? Do they even grow grapes in Grapevine? Surely with a name like Grapevine, there’s wine to be had! Well indeed there is!The town got its name from the wild mustang grapes that grew rampant in the area. Now the main vineyard of note is the 10-acre vineyard owned by Delaney Vineyards. It was planted in 1993 to Cynthiana grapes, otherwise known as Norton, the hybrid variety that’s the cornerstone of the Missouri wine industry. I visited last week, and I’ll tell you more about that shortly.Did you know that Grapevine is the home of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association?“The city of Grapevine and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau have always been extremely supportive of the Texas wine industry AND the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. There are several times throughout the year in which they fundraise for us and support the industry with non-monetary resources.Grapefest is the largest purchaser and reseller of Texas wine! There are some synergies that occur because our office is in the same market as that event.” - TWGGA Executive Director Dacota HaselwoodTexas Wine & Grape Growers AssociationWhile you're on the TWGGA website, submit your wines for entry in the Lone Star International Wine Competition. It will take place in late October in Grapevine.Today I’m going to give you a couple of your best bests for visiting Grapevine. Attending a festival may be what has brought you to Grapevine before, but Grapevine also has winery tasting rooms, restaurants with Texas wines on the lists, and a wine shop a solid Texas wine selection. I’ll touch on your best bests in each of these categories and comment on where Grapevine gets it right and how Grapevine can improve to convert even more Texas wine lovers.Grapevine is all about wine festivals. GrapeFest is the largest, but it’s just one of many. In fact, there’s another big wine festival coming up in October. It is currently still on the calendar. It’s the 28th annual New Vintage Wine & Gallery Trail & Blessing of the Vines. It was originally in April and has been pushed back.Find out more here: New Vintage Wine & Gallery TrailTasting Rooms:FACT: The first winery tasting room to open up in Grapevine was La Buena Vida Vineyards in 1995. Delaney Vineyards followed in 1996.Once you’re able to visit tasting rooms again, you’ll be happy to know that my top two recommendations in Grapevine are both on Main Street. While you’re downtown, be sure to check out the bronze grapevine sculptures outside the Convention and Visitors Bureau. This public art display shows the life cycle of a grapevine and was purchased with donations secured by the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society. My first tasting room recommendation is Bingham Family Vineyards. Bingham is first and foremost a farming family. They’re a multi-generational family that’s all about 100% Texas grown and produced estate wines from the Texas High Plains. They’ve got a tasting room in Fredericksburg and one in Meadow in addition to the one in Grapevine. You won’t find their wines in distribution because they barely make enough wine to keep their own wine club satisfied. If you want Bingham made wines, get them through the tasting rooms or online. The Binghams own or manage around 250 acres of grapes in the Texas High Plains, and they’ve been growing grapes since 2003. They also grow grapes for over 20 other Texas wineries. In addition to grapes, the Binghams grow around 2000 acres of other organic crops including cotton and peanuts. The fact that they’re an estate winery is pretty unique among Texas wineries. They decided to start making some of their own wines in 2014 and opened the Grapevine tasting room in 2015. Production is approximately 5000 cases. If you live within 10 miles of the tasting room, they’ll deliver your order and waive the $10 fee if you spend over $50.Betty Bingham keeps an active blog with great recipes, wine pairings, and updates from the farm. I found an entry from back in May that gives the Bingham family’s impressions on the 2020 harvest. Betty writes, “It doesn’t look good for the 2020 grape crop at Bingham Family Vineyards. We are estimating 170 tons rather than our original expectation of 900 tons.” She has photos of several different varieties and how they fared. She writes, “they show that we are concerned not only this year’s crop, but also for the vines themselves. We will be spending extra time training many of the vines to prepare for fruit next year or in some blocks for fruit two years from now. On the whole it appears that the older the vines, the less fruit. The younger vines, except for some of those just planted last year, are actually faring better.”Bingham Family VineyardNext, just down the street you’ll find Messina Hof - Grapevine. This is one of Messina Hof’s three locations. The others are in Bryan/College Station and Fredericksburg. The fourth location is under development in the greater Houston area.Messina Hof was the 4th winery established in TX (1977) by the Bonarrigio family. It’s is a large Texas winery with about 84,000 cases produced. You’ll find the wines in wide distribution. They’ve got over 70 wines in distribution to 40 states. They work with over 20 growers statewide to produce their Texas wines.Messina Hof Opened the Grapevine location in 2014 in the old Wallis Hotel which was built in 1891. At Messina Hof - Grapevine you’ll find multiple tasting areas, and many, many styles of wine. In fact, Messina Hof makes wines from over 25 grape varieties. There’s something for everyone here: wine on tap, wine in cans, wines by the glass, shopping, premium flights of wines that are only available at this location and more. They host lots of events too. If you’re looking for something special for a group or special event, there’s an opportunity for a private seated tasting that food.Messina Hof - GrapevineUmbra sells Texas wine and in fact grows grapes at the sister property in Springtown. The Grapevine tasting room has made some changes to better meet the demands of current business environment. Right now Umbra is focused on a lot of gourmet food items, gift baskets, wine glasses and prepared food to go. There’s not as much seating for tastings as there used to be.If you stop in, be sure to check out the Estrella de Vida, named for the late Dr Bobby Smith, the previous owner of La Buena Vida Vineyards, The owners of Umbra bought La Buena Vida from Dr. Smith, and he was their mentor until his death earlier this year. The wine is a Texas orange muscat, and it has a photo of Dr. Bobby on the label. The back label pays tribute to their mentor and friend and invites us to join in celebrating his life with the commemorative wine.NOTE: Just after this recording was complete, Umbra Winery announced the consolidation of its operations to its vineyard in Springtown. The Umbra tasting room in Grapevine is closing.Umbra WineryCross Timbers Winery is about half a mile off Main Street. It has a lovely outdoor patio space where you’ll often find live music. A two-story barn can be rented for parties. They only make a few hundred cases of wine, just enough to use for events at the barn and to pour in the tasting room and at the various events that happen throughout the year in Grapevine. They don’t ship wine or operate a wine club. Kim McPherson makes the wine.Grapevine’s sister city is Parras de la Fuente, Mexico. That’s the site of Casa Madero, the oldest winery in the Americans. The late founder of Cross Timbers was friends with the folks at Casa Madero. That’s why you can taste 4 Casa Madero wines at Cross Timbers. If you go, plan to sit outside on a nice day when there’s live music. I haven’t tasted the wine, but the outdoor space could definitely be fun.Cross Timbers WineryJerry Delaney owns the 10 acre vineyard and winery in Grapevine, and also a 115 acre vineyard in Lamesa which is in the Texas High Plains AVA. The winery in Grapevine is an 8,000 square foot French chateau inspired building. It was completed in 1996, and the first bottling production was in the summer of 1997. The vineyard of Norton grapes was planted in 1993.Delaney calls the wine produced from the Grapevine vineyard Cynthiana which is a synonym for Norton according to UC Davis Grape Registry. Norton is a hybrid variety, and it’s also the cornerstone of the Missouri wine industry. Grapevine is outside of any of the 8 AVAs in Texas, so this wine is just labeled Texas. The Texoma AVA starts well north of Grapevine.Delaney VineyardsRestaurants:When you’re ready for a meal, perhaps you want to try a nearby restaurant where you can try other Texas wines.Sloan & Williams is a winery but also has a large tapas menu. Stop in there for lunch and the Texas tasting. They’ve got 5 Texas wines that they bottle under their own Sloan and Williams label from grapes grown on the Texas High Plains. Try the Texas wine flight!Sloan & Williams WineryIf you’re craving seafood, Big Fish Seafood Grill & Bar has several Texas wines on the menu both by the bottle and by the glass.Big Fish Seafood Grill & BarThe couple that owns Main Street Bakery, Chez Fabien, and the newer Piaf Kitchen and Wine Bar have done a good job at putting Texas wines on those wines lists. The Mediterranean themed Piaf has the most Texas wines of any restaurants in Grapevine according to my research. If you know of others that have more, please let me know! Piaf has 4 Texas wines by the glass and 6 by the bottles. They’re from the Texas wine producers that you’d expect to see: Messina Hof, McPherson, and Duchman. Piaf has a good looking upstairs patio and a wine room for private events.Piaf KitchenThe new Hotel Vin will also bring a new fine dining option to Grapevine. It’s called Bacchus Kitchen and Bar. Of course Bacchus is the Roman God of wine. The big question is, will they have Texas wine on their list? The website talks more about handcrafted cocktails and craft beer, but I’m still hopeful. I hope they’ll take a page from the Pyramid Room playbook and have not just a nice selection of Texas wines, but dedicate a little space to some Texas wine education too. I bet a lot of out of town business travelers who will likely dine here don’t even know Texas grows grapes but would be interested in trying Texas wine.Hotel Vin's Bacchus KitchenWine Shop:There’s an independent Wine shop on Main Street that’s worth a mention too. Off the Vine has been around for 27 years and has featured Texas wines with in store tastings. Owner Holly Donnelly has definitely seen a lot of changes in the Texas wine industry in her long tenure on Main Street. She currently features wines from Lost Draw, Reddy Vineyards, Kuhlman Cellars and several other top Texas producers. Pick up something from there and head to one of Grapevine’s BYOB spots. The one I’ve visited and loved is Café Italia. Holly also suggests Amore’s or Mason & Dixie.Off the VineThings to Do:A lot of the things to do in Grapevine center around wine. One is the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. The railroad runs several special events each year that are adults only and focus on wine. There are Jazz Wine Trains, Halloween Wine Trains and more. The Grapevine tasting rooms supply the wine. Members of the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society pour the wine. This society meets regularly for wine education and fellowship. They’re wine ambassadors for the town of Grapevine and some of the friendliest folks you will meet. I enjoyed being a guest at their meeting in 2017 when I wrote an article about the wine pouring society for Texas Wine Lover website. My article on the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society for Texas Wine LoverPassengers on the wine trains travel on authentic 1920's-era Victorian train coaches along the historic Cotton Belt Route. I haven’t been on a wine train ride myself, so I don’t have a personal recommendation.Grapevine Vintage RailroadAnother option Grapevine offers is a guided winery tours. Contact Grapevine Wine Tours for an outing that also includes lunch or dinner. If you want to make sure you get nothing but Texas wine, schedule a private tour for your party. The regularly scheduled tours may also include stops at a couple of the wineries I’ve mentioned, but the private tours will also include Bingham and Off the Vine which are not on the public tours.Grapevine Wine ToursThe 8 wineries on the Urban Winery trail are part of many holiday events throughout the year. Tickets always go quickly! Grapevine is also known as the Christmas Capital of Texas, so that’s a fun time to go wine tasting, shopping and dining around the historic main street. Some of the wrap around events planned for GrapeFest are still happening. The tennis classic and the Texas Wine Tribute, a black-tie event that recognizes leaders in Texas wine, are still on the calendar, at least for now. Check the website for more details.GrapeFest 2020In Summary:So, yes, there is good Texas wine in Grapevine, you just need to know where to find it. The Texas wine culture isn’t as prevalent in Grapevine as it should be. Considering the number of visitors that come to Grapevine, both from in-state, from other states, and from around the world, showcasing Texas wine should be a priority here.I would love to see more wineries on Main Street, and I wish they all sold Texas wine. I wish every Grapevine restaurant had a section of its wine list dedicated to Texas wine, and I wish there was more variety in the wines on wine lists.Grapevine has the perfect infrastructure for creating more Texas wine lovers, and the city has already done so much for the industry.A huge thank you to those Texas wineries, restaurants, wine shops, TWGGA, and other businesses that support Texas wine in Grapevine. I support you and encourage all my listeners to get to Grapevine to check out the new developments, dine in the new restaurants, and buy some Texas wine! When Texas tasting rooms reopen, don’t forget about the ones in Grapevine. Cheers! What I'm Drinking2018 Bingham Family Vineyards Cloudburst

Coach Larry Clay Lonis is back and in this episode he talks about his experiences and journey with churches and especially mega churches. He says that people walk around condemned because of their history and focus on the negative. He says he felt freedom because he survived so much and now feels that he can survive anything. In most cases fear holds us back from doing things. He tells us that the martial arts business is very melodramatic. and that people have tried to use his history against him. In 2004 he opened another location of his Krav Maga facility in Grapevine Texas, but his business partner didn't want to pay him and started all kinds of rumors about him on public online forums. He tore apart his reputation so nobody would want anything to do with him. Clay made a big name in the industry and people either loved him or hated him. He teaches us what Krav Maga is. We learn that he was part of the Powerteam a church ministry team that travels around the globe ripping phone books, bend iron bars with their teeth, break huge ice boulders etc. This would get people's attention and then they would share their testimony. They were doing all these inspirational things but were never allowed to use God's name in schools. We then find out that Clay was put on a "WATCHLIST" at one of the megachurches because he got into a facebook discussion with a church pastor. He had posted about his personal feelings about mega churches because he had found out how poorly they had treated a former employee. The mega church held a staff meeting about Clay and wanted everyone to watch him, who he was talking to, interacting etc. He was truly blacklisted. Clay started studying etymology and was reading a book called "REORIENT" by Kevin Weave that everyone should read. He believes that we have the right definition but the perception of the way churches operate is completely off and done completely wrong. He knows that it is controversial but he believes it is important. He then gives us history about Constantine the pagan priest that established all the churches.Clay wants to coach and help people and make a positive impact.theemailaddressyouaskedfor@gmail.comQuestion of the Day:Your S/O wakes up every morning in a bad mood that lasts a couple of hours. Hello and Welcome to Warrior DIVAS | Real Talk for Real Women. This is your host Angie Leigh Monroe and I am ecstatic to get started today. We are going to be talking about one of my favorite historical women today just because she has taught me so much throughout my life. So, before we get started, I do want to remind you that we have our UnMasked Conference coming up in October, October 11 and 12th. In Grapevine Texas, you can go to DIVASImpact.com/unmasked and find out more details there. As we start putting all the information and getting us ready to go for this conference. We are putting together a phenomenal lineup of amazing women to come and speak at that event. We're going to have special booths for you to be able to come in and be a guest on a podcast, or maybe do a quick video blurbs and photo shoots. We're going to have just a ton of ways to not only just encourage and inspire you but to help activate you as well. So, we look forward to having you join us October 11 and 12th in Grapevine Texas, at the Divas Impact | UnMasked Conference, and then if you have not seen it yet, we have just recently released our DIVAS Impact magazine. So, it is live online with subscription options if you want the print edition as well. We are just burnin’ and turnin’ right now with in the DIVAS Impact world and super stoked about all the things that we've got coming up over the next few weeks. So, I think told you about my girlfriend, Abigail, right? Abigail is a historical person, you find her in First Samuel 25 of the Bible. The reason I'm referring to Abigail is because Abigail is the girl that helped me find my voice again, help me find my purpose again. If you don't know the story of Abigail, I'm going to paraphrase it and give it kind of the diva version of it today. You know, a friend of mine, Michael Jr, who's a comedian, he does the whole homeboy version of reading the Bible. I do the diva version of reading the Bible. So, one of the things that I loved about Abigail is she is a woman who is married to a not very nice, man, all right? Now, I know that I've got a lot of girlfriends out there that are, are struggling in their marriages. Maybe their husband is verbally or emotionally abusive. Hopefully he's not physically abusive, and you're still in the relationship, but even so, Abigail was married to a man named Nebal. All right, and Nebal was a foolish man, he was just a downright mean, ugly, and liked to party and drink all the time. Any my girlfriend's out there can relate to that having a husband like that, never grew up type personality, right. So, he just was very harsh and rude, and his dealings, never really was fair, even though he'd been given a lot of grace and a lot of blessings in his life. He didn't feel the need to pass on or pay forward those blessings at all right? So in walks, David - now, I use this story because a lot of my girlfriends are like, “man, I have a prayer that if I could just get out of this bad marriage, there's a true man, a king, a somebody waiting to ride up on this white horse and whisk me off my feet”, you know, just like the Disney fairy tales, right? But I started calling this the Abigail prayer, like the prayer of Jabez in the Bible, they have the prayer of Abigail, “Lord, if you would just smite my husband down and bring me a king and his presence”, right? Well, that's a little bit about what I'm going to talk about today, and I hope you have a sense of humor and are going to join me in this thing. But I'm going to challenge you that the prayer of Abigail never turns out the way you want it to turn out. So, hold on to your seats, we're going to get in this pretty deep, pretty fast. So, there's this guy named David. Anybody heard of David in the Bible? He kind of wrote the song Psalms, he's kind of known for being a little foolish himself at times, but he was a musician. He had God's heart; he even sent a guy to be killed so he can marry his wife. He had some good days, he had some bad days, let's just be real with it. But the thing about David was, he was a ferocious fighter and he was an honorable man for most parts. He had been protecting the land that Nebal had for many years and kept all of his sheep and his men safe and all of that stuff. So, now they're out there wandering and David and his men are starting to get a little hungry, right? So they send word to Nebal, send some messengers to Nebal, that says, “Hey, dude, you know, while we've been camped out here, you know, your lands not been taken over by the enemy, you know, you've had great protection for your crops, your sheep, all of that stuff. So hey, could you do us a solid and send us over some food to feed us because we're, we're hungry here.” And Nebal just kind of got rude. You know? He said, “uh, who's this David guy? I don't know who he is. Nobody's protected me but me. I didn't need him. I don't need to send him food. I don't need to do any of that stuff.” So, when the messengers took that word back to David, David threw a fit. He had anger in his mind. He had anger in his heart, and he was ready to just annihilate everybody on Nebal's property, right? So, what had happened? I know I've talked about Nebal and David, what had happened was one of the messengers that got word from one of the guys that gotten word from the messengers, went to Abigail, Nebal’s wife, and said, “Ma'am, you know, these guys have really protected us, they've been kind to us, they've kept us safe when war was so close, and our master has just basically hurled insults at them and turned a blind eye to them, slammed the door in their face, so to speak. And I fear that going up against a man, the strongest, David is going to lead to all of our demise by morning. We will all be dead by morning.” So Abigail - these are the things that I love about Abigail says, Abigail went to her pantry. Now, all of us have a little pantry in our house, it may be a closet, it may be a shelf, it may be something but we have a place where we keep things that we've got ready to make a meal at any time. But what I love about this is it says she took 200 loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five dress sheep’s, five sheaths of roasted grain, 100 cakes of raisins, 200 cakes of pressed figs and loaded them onto donkeys. Okay, so this woman had been having or had been preparing or had been having prepared for a while, these things that she loaded onto this donkey. She went out and she pulled out of a store place thing that she'd been preparing for a long time. So today, I want to ask you and challenge you on something, what is it that you've been working towards or hoping towards and storing away for a long time? Maybe you've been writing in a journal, maybe you've been writing, writing a blog that's never been published, maybe you've been writing a screen written play that's never seen the light of day or a novel. Maybe you've been making little things at home for yourself that you enjoy, but all of your friends’ compliment on you, but you've never sold them or given them away to anybody else. Maybe you've been studying everything there is about anatomy and, all that stuff but never gone and taken the classes to be a nurse. There's something in your pantry, something in your life that you've kind of been pulling aside and setting aside for that rainy day, and I want you to be challenged with. That rainy day is here. It is time for you to start pulling those things out of your pantry. Now one of the other things that Abigail did is she loaded those onto the donkey, and she rode out to meet David. Now, David, David again, he was upset. But when he saw Abigail - Abigail quickly got off her donkey. She bowed down to David with her face to the ground, falling at his feet, and then she gave the longest recorded speech by a woman in the Bible. Now how many of y'all have sat there and heard that women in the church cannot speak, they're not to be heard, all that stuff? Yes, that's over in the New Testament on that. But this woman is standing before the future king of Israel, and throwing herself at his mercy in speaking on behalf of her husband and all his land, right? She had a voice and she was empowered to use it at a certain time. And she says “pardon your servant, my lord. And let me speak to you, hear what your servant has to say,” She's letting him know that she's submitting to him and his power in his strength. “Please pay no attention, my Lord to what that wicked man named Nebal, he is just like his name. His name means fool and folly goes with him.” So, she dished on her husband, she got a little jab in there we all do it from time to time, right? “And as for me, your servant, I did not see the men My Lord sent and now my lord is surely as your God lives. And as you live, since the Lord has kept you from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, may your enemies and all who are intent on harming My Lord be like Nebal, and let this gift which your servant has brought to my Lord, be given to the men who follow you.” So, she gave everything off her donkey to David to feed his men, and to really just stand strong, to let David know that she was she was on his side and she meant no harm or no foul to him. But the other thing that I like the next part of this the whole like it says, “please forgive your servants presumption. The LORD your God will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my Lord”, when she says My Lord, she's talking about David, “because you fight the Lord's battle and no wrongdoing will be found in you as long as you live, even though someone that is pursuing you to take your life, the life of the Lord will be bound securely in the bundle of the living God but the lives of your enemies, he will be hurled away as from the pocket of a sling.” Hmm, remember David, “Use this sling before and when the Lord is fulfilled for my Lord, everything he promised concerning him is appointed him ruler over Israel, my Lord will not have one thing on his conscience, the staggering burning of needless bloodshed, or having a bench himself and when the Lord your God has brought my lord success, remember your servant?” Okay, there was a lot of Lord their God, and my Lord, and all that stuff. It almost sounded like a southern Christmas, you know, my lord. But here's the thing she's saying here is don't go out and react the way Nebal reacted. I'm here, I'm offering peace. And I'm not only trying to save you from hunger, I'm trying to save you from making a foolish choice and avenging something that is not even your battle to avenge. Right? She was trying to keep David holy and pure, so that he would be the rightful owner and the rightful king, heir to the throne of Israel, right? So, she did something that I used to train my admin assistants all the time, I used to tell them all the time, you are there to protect your pastor, from everybody, including himself. So being that gatekeeper, whether you're an admin assistant for a fortune 500 company, a small mom and pop company, a church, whatever it is, being that gatekeeper is knowing what could bring harm to them and seeing that even when they can't see it when they're blinded by foolishness or rage or, or whatever's coming up against them, helping them to curb their appetite for revenge, right. And that's exactly what Abigail did that day. She stood before David, dropped to her face, and pled with him to save not only her husband's life and the lives of the men, but his own. That is powerful, people. When you realize that you have a voice to make an impact and how you go out tomorrow, making that impact is so significant. Now, this next part is the part that I really relate to. Yes, I loved the part about the pantry because it reminded me that no matter what circumstance of life, I'm in, I still have the opportunity to do the work that I'm called for. I was telling somebody the other day they were asking me about all the speaking topics I have. I'm like, Oh, I have hundreds of them. Some of them have seen light of day, some of them have not. But I literally have file drawers full of things that I've written, because even when I didn't feel like I had a voice, I put it down on paper. I was preparing for a season for when I would have a voice because I knew that was my calling and the purpose that was on me for all long. So, David was thankful to Abigail. He took the food, he let her know that Nebal and his men were not going to be harmed at all and stuff like that. And when Abigail returned that night, her husband was throwing another one of his shindigs. Right? Had all the people out, they were partying, and he was drunk. And Abigail did something out of her pure wisdom, that it took my mom and several other people reminding me many, many years not to do. She saw how drunk he was, and she went to bed. She didn't tell him what at all what all it happened and how she had saved she didn't go in there and go, now listen, here you fool. You don't realize what you just about brought on to us. You didn't, you don't realize the danger you almost brought to us. And I, I, being the upright wife and The Good Wife that I am, I saved ourselves from virtual destruction. No, she went to bed. Now, I like to thank Abigail's human. I bet you she stewed in that bed for a little bit or maybe she was just relieved that what she had done, worked and just took a deep breath before she drifted off to sleep. The next morning, it says she woke up and her husband was sober, and she got to have a talk with him and tell him what it happened. See, calmer, cooler minds prevail, right? That was one of the things my mom used to tell me when my husband was drinking all the time, is don't talk to him when he's drunk. It just gets worse. It just gets worse, and she's right, it would always escalate in something that it didn't need to be. Thank goodness, he's not that man anymore. But at the time, it was just a vicious vicious circle, because I am a toe to toe fighter. Okay, my husband's one of those, they'll throw his hands up, he'll walk away for a little while. But if I keep toe to toe toe fighting and pushing and pushing and pushing, it's going to get ugly. And I'm not talking about physical, but it's going to get vicious with the words that are being slung like stones out of a sling, right? So, she sits down, and she has this conversation with Nibal. And it says that he fell into like a stone like state and few days later, he died. Basically, what that means is he had a stroke, and he passed away, but when he passed away, David heard about it. And he sent for Abigail to be one of his wives. Now here's one of the things I want to talk to all my single girls out there about, because I've got some single girlfriends that are in their late 20s going into their 30s, some even reaching into their 40s. And they've never been married. And they keep saying, I'm just waiting for my king to come. Are you being the Queen that he needs to see? Because see, David wasn’t the king when he met Abigail, but Abigail had role two qualities. She knew what was required of her and how to speak, and speak eloquently, and how to be prepared and how to run a home. And how to know when to speak and when to be quiet. See a lot of times, the girls that are saying they're just waiting for their king to come. They're just waiting for somebody to accept them as they are, and they've stopped growing and evolving and doing all that they're called to be. And they're just waiting for some man to come and complete them. A man's not looking for a woman that needs to be completed. A man's looking for a strong, independent woman who knows the calling on her life and is not intimidated by the outside factors. So, which one do you want? A lot of times, neither one of you are kings nor queens when you get married. Your prince and princesses, and we all know how bratty some of them can be right? We've all watched the Disney fairy tales. My daughter and her kids just got back from Disneyland last week. I'm just telling you, after the kids had been around some of the princesses and stuff, they were a little bratty too, it rubs off. So have the women in your life that when you say something that you shouldn't say, and you know you shouldn't say it, or kind of hold you accountable, and be strong in your life and push back and tell you now, you can do better, you can be better. See, because Abigail did get her king, he wasn't a king when he married her. He was still, he was still an heir to the throne, wasn't even a prince. But as they were married, he became a king. So, my question to you is, are you willing to look for the man to lay your life down for a man in a way that will lift him up and also elevate you? See, a lot of times, I'm running into women nowadays that come in and go well my man needs to, or my man needs to do this, or my man... He jumps when I speak. My husband jumps to, but I'll tell you what, he jumps because of a love, not because of an intimidation and there's a difference. And we have to know what that difference is. He jumps because he knows how much it means to me. He also knows that I'm not asking him to do something just because I want to see him move. I'm asking him to do something that is purposeful and intentional for where I want to be and where I want us to be as a relationship. Now, how many of you out there right now some of this may have stung y'all a little bit today? I'm right there with you. When I first started hearing the story of Abigail, I was like, what do you mean, she went to bed, she needed to go in there and tell him, give him a word, tell him how to act and that sums it up. Remember, I'm the one that stood over my husband at our seven-year wedding anniversary and told him I made it last out of spite. I can be a little vindictive, I can be a little in your face. Okay, I can be a lot in your face, but that's not the point. The point is that we need to find a way to love ourselves and be passionate for those that we walk alongside with. My husband when I look at the fact that Abigail served David and I do the same thing for my husband. But you know what he does it for me too. It's a reciprocal thing. It's not an Old Testament fall on your face in the woman's below the man thing. We are partners, we are helped. When my husband calls and he has a problem, I 99.9% time answer unless I'm in here recording a podcast and then he has to be on Do Not Disturb, but I answer the phone, because I know he's needing something from me at that time. When I call him, he answers the phone, because he knows I'm needing something from him. Sometimes it's just to hear each other's voice. If we can stop looking at people as to what they can give us, and what they, how they will elevate us in society. Then we can start realizing that we have everything we need right here at our fingertips. We just have to dig deep. Look at the things we've been collecting over the years. What's in your pantry? What is it you're seeking? How is it that you want to make an impact on the world? Now this is going to bring me to this week's EVERYDAY DIVA, and the reason it brings me to this week's EVERYDAY DIVA is because this EVERYDAY DIVA would tell me consistently. “Don't talk to him when he's drunk, just walk away. Behave.” And that's my mom, Ginny Davis. She is the one that was there. When things would happen, my mom is the one that also prayed a prayer over me, ‘Lord, whatever it takes, bring her closer to you.’ Let me just tell you, if you're in a place right now to pray that over your child, your husband, yourself, whatever it is, be prepared for the whatever it takes, because it will send you through some challenging places in life. And it did. And I remember my mom sitting there with me one day and saying, I know I prayed that prayer. But I didn't mean all this. And I could, at peace, look at her and say, but this is what we needed to have the breakthrough. Because Have you ever watched somebody get a trophy for being the last place team and I'm not going to get on any political things here. But they show up to the baseball field, they haven't won a game, they can't throw a ball, they can't run. They can't hit a ball at the end of the season. But they've got a trophy because they participated. And then Have you watched a team that is played all the way up to the Little League World Series and won the whole series. There is a much different sense of accomplishment from the ones that won at the World Series level than the ones that just showed up and had fun. Because in those times, you're tried, you're tested, you're pushed beyond your limits. You're exhausted, you're worn out, you're battered, you're bruised, you're injured, but you still completed the task ahead of you. When you have a mom like I had that said, Lord, whatever it takes, and she prayed that in earnest. That's what it took me through. It took me through a whole bunch of bull Kaka to get me where I needed to be and caused that breakthrough. And let me just tell you that breakthrough was so much sweeter because of that. So like I said, today's EVERYDAY DIVA is my mom, Ginny Davis, maybe you want to call your mom today and thank her for saying the prayers that she said for you and pushed you and challenged you in ways that you didn't like at the time but you needed, but whatever that looks like for you. I hope that you will stand strong today, know that your voice matters, know that it has an impact, but you have to use your voice wisely. So, it will be at its most impactful. So that's going to do it for today, until next time. This is your host Angie Leigh Monroe, and remember to be a DIVA and make an Impact.

Today we’re going to talk about staying focused on your 20%. The 80/20 principle. Time is The Great Equalizer Q - We all know or have heard of someone who has had extraordinary success. How do they do more, achieve more, earn more, have more? A - They get to the heart of things...They go small. “Going small” is ignoring all the things you could do and doing what you should do. It’s realizing that extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus. What exactly is this 20% secret? We have found that every job or role in business, has a measurable way of tracking performance. To determine this, we ask three questions. 1. How do you gauge success in your job or business? 2. What are the things/activities that contribute to that success? 3. Out of those things/activities, which is the priority item? Meaning, if you didn't do that activity at all, you would essentially see your business fail or lose your job? This concept comes from the Italian philosopher named Vilfredo Pareto, who was born in 1848-1923. Pareto was studying the Italian economy and realized that 80 percent financial wealth in Italy was controlled by 20% of the population. Then, he looked at real estate and noticed 80 percent of the real estate was controlled by just 20 percent of the population. What’s interesting is, this shows up everywhere in our lives - it is a principle as true as the law of gravity! Pareto’s Principle, it turns out, is as real as the law of gravity, and yet most people fail to see it’s significance. It’s not just a theory—it is a provable, predictable certainty of nature and one of the greatest productivity truths ever discovered. Richard Koch, in his book The 80/20 Principle, defined it about as well as anyone: “The 80/20 Principle asserts that a minority of causes, inputs, or effort usually lead to a majority of the results, outputs, or rewards.” In other words, in the world of success, things aren’t equal. A few causes create most of the results. Is Less really more? - Pareto points us in a very clear direction: the majority of what you want will come from the minority of what you do. Extraordinary results are disproportionately created by fewer actions than most realize. Pareto’s great insight was that not everything matters equally; some things matter more than others — a lot more. What amazes me is that often, people don’t accept this like they do the law of gravity. Here’s a great example of what I am talking about. If I took you to the top of a 20 story building and asked you to step off the building - with no protective gear, would you? No. You accept the law of gravity completely. Someone people don’t live the 80/20 principle the same way. I understand Pareto isn’t a new concept to everyone. What I don’t understand is why most people don’t like it, follow it or make a point of following it. Why is this? Likely due to the fact it’s not commonly talked about, taught and trusted to work. Trusted to work? What does that mean? We have become so accustomed to living in “chaos” and sadly have (even if not consciously) accepted it as a way of life. When in fact, it doesn’t have to be the case. How do we do this? First, we have to raise our awareness. Once this is done, we can get a clear focus on what truly matters, put the blinders on and get into action doing The ONE Thing, the right thing, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary. You have only so much time and energy, so when you spread yourself out, you end up spread thin. You want your achievements to add up, but that actually takes subtraction, not addition. You need to be doing fewer things for more effect instead of doing more things with side effects! How can we practice the less is more strategy - Ask - What is your ONE Thing in business? In other words, what is your 20% activity that yields 80% of your results? Do you know what your 20% is? To figure this out, as it relates to your business, we’ll focus on your role as a Realtor, what is the ONE THING you know is the MOST important activity, that will make everything easier OR unnecessary? I would suggest this is the habit of lead generation. For a Realtor, there are many opportunities to be pulled in numerous directions. That’s the trap we must A.) be aware of and B.) consciously avoid falling into the 80% activities that, fill up our day and make us feel “busy” and yet prevent us from being “productive.” This is why so many people find themselves working hard, making a sincere effort to achieve and year after year coming up short of our goals and frustrated. Give Yourself The Gift of Leverage - Overcome, overwhelm. There’s no doubt, we all have many “things” that need to be done. Here’s the million dollar question to ask yourself “Is this in my 20%?” One common issue I find comes into play with many people I have coached/trained is they find themselves in this position because they are unwilling to let others help them. Simply put, they have some control issues to move beyond. I’ve been there myself, when I finally accepted and for that matter realized, I have a skills set that doesn’t encompass everything, and other people have stronger skills in the areas where mine we’re not as strong, I learned to trust and let go. It’s about building a team of people around you. It’s fair that anyone, that feels that everything that has to be done, must be done by themselves are going to feel overwhelmed quite often. In order to grow, you have to let go. Do what you do best, what your role calls for and delegate everything else. We can do this through the leverage of a transaction coordinator, listing coordinator, or the support of a virtual assistant. If you drink water without a water filter, then you are the waterfilter. It’s no different in business, if you don’t find people to assist you, then you are the assistant. Successful agents don’t do what assistants do, and successful assistants don’t do what successful Realtors do. I would be willing to bet, based on my experience working with 1000’s of agents across the country, you feel overwhelmed because you are doing everything yourself, working on growing your business and you can’t keep up with everything. No one could! In fact, we’re also stunning the growth of our business when we use this approach. Give yourself the gift of leverage, have more time and increase your production. Final thought - I just want to repeat this ...You have only so much time and energy, so when you spread yourself out, you end up spread thin. You want your achievements to add up, but that actually takes subtraction, not addition. You need to be doing fewer things for more effect instead of doing more things with side effects! Find your 20% activity, trust it and watch your results skyrocket! Remember, 90 day cycles! We had an amazing event a few weeks ago...I mentioned the CRLS course I was offering. We SOLD out and the agents that attended were amazing! They came ready to play all in, had great energy and it was a hugely successful event. I will be in Grapevine TX coming up on June 28/29 offering the CRLS Course - you can go to www.crlsdesignation.com to get all the details. Our venue can only hold 50, so get registered asap as this will sell out too.

Boy Scout collectors that have been in the hobby a long time know the Trade-O-Ree scene pretty well. Your typical show is long on grey haired attendees and short on walk in traffic. But there is another way. John Ryan has been thinking outside the box for going on three decades with the Lone Star TOR in Grapevine Texas. This year his show will include everything from a collections merit badge group to a youth patch auction that resembles musical chairs. On Saturday the show will be the host for an official Philmont Staff Association reunion to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Scout ranch. With an expected crowd of 150+ just for that add on piece you can bet there will be some "walk through" traffic at this show. Tonight John Ryan is my guest on Scouting Hot Finds Radio to discuss his secret sauce for having a successful TOR. If you want to hear some outside the box ideas that would really shake up the hobby listen in. You might even get an explanation for another event on the schedule called patch golf!
