Today, Diane is known for her experiential Keynotes, Training, and Coaching programs that go Beyond Engagement™, featuring her three-step Flow Strategy™ system, which empowers people to get into their flow state, be in their genius and love what they do. Diane asks: "When it comes to work and life, are you spending your time doing or being? Of course, we all have to do things. But how are you being when you are doing? Do you power through your day, doing the best with what you have, only to find yourself physically drained, emotionally empty, and out of flow? Are you fully in flow, deeply engaged, exceeding your potential, feeling whole, happy, and fulfilled? Or, are you somewhere in between?" "As a violinist, playing a high-precision instrument under high pressure, I've learned that when I'm deeply engaged with the music all the 'doingness' seems to disappear and my 'beingness' takes me on an amazing ride of self-actualization," Diane says. "Getting into the music is a musician's version of getting into the flow state and while the lessons of getting into flow didn't come easily, in the end, not only have I gained flow, I've gained flow mastery. Now, as a global authority on flow, I empower people in all aspects of their lives to get into their flow on purpose, and with purpose." "It's commonly known that stress narrows cognitive focus and ideation," Diane maintains. "It can also drain overall energy, and it negatively impacts mental health. What's not commonly known is that when in flow, focus broadens, thoughts expand, and learning speed increases. Work becomes rewarding to the point where it refuels you, and flow positively impacts mental health." "Flow education is like one-stop shopping to resolve many of today's issues by reconnecting people with the humanity that already exists within them so they can be engaged, unlock their genius, and love what they do," suggests Diane. "Whether you are leading yourself, or leading others, you just have to tap into your flow." Diane can show you how. I want to talk about engagement this week - according to a 2023 Gallup report, fewer than 1/3 of employees are engaged in their work. Study after study shows that employee engagement is directly linked to business performance. The secret sauce for engagement is part strength and part passion; things that we enjoy doing not just what we're good at. In this episode, I speak to Marcus Buckingham about identifying how we truly enjoy spending our time, aka "red threads", that you should weave into your daily activities in order to build your engagement. Potential to Powerhouse: Success Secrets for Women Entrepreneurs
Andréa Bendewald discovered the power of circling early on in her acting career. Upon moving from New York to Los Angeles, she attended her first circle, which was comprised of actors, singers, writers, and producers, and found out that these successful and self-empowered women had the same complex inner emotional landscape as she did. She instantly felt less alone and more supported. She is now a circle facilitator and brings that same life-changing magic into her business, The Art of Circling. In today's episode, Andréa and Tracy come together to explore how the authentic sharing of ourselves strengthens our intuition, increases our self-esteem, and enhances our overall expansiveness. Key Points: How Tracy and Andrea met. Andrea grew up in the Lower West Side of Manhattan during the 80's and this provided an incredible basis for an inspiring childhood and young adulthood. Andrea began acting at a young age and even attended a high school for performing arts. Andrea dives into what both of her parents were like and how their work ethics shaped her into who she is today. Stop forcing things and start fitting into the flow so you can begin to enjoy life and trust the process. The mindset of enjoying the process helps Andrea tremendously through her acting career, as the audition process is tedious; if you don't love and enjoy auditioning, you are in the wrong job market. LOVE WHAT YOU DO. Andrea revisits the beginning of her friendship with Jennifer Anniston. Andrea tells the story of her first acting gig on a sitcom alongside Harland Williams and Jason Bateman. Andrea explains that she wasn't in her “Zone of genius” and decided to cave into her obsession of circling. Andrea tells her story about her first circling experience in Laurel Canyon right after she moved to LA from NYC. Tracy and Andrea bond over their shared experience with talking sticks. Burning Man led Andrea to fall in love with art for art's sake again, and upon returning home from the festival, she decided to buy a teepee and create a sacred space for circles in her backyard in Beverly Hills. Today, Andrea rides on the joy of having the best of both worlds through knowing what to say yes to, and what to say no to with respect of keeping the energy flow moving. Memorable Quotes: “In a circle, we get to remember who we truly are and reconnect with who we truly are before everyone told us who we were supposed to be.” “When women gather, shift happens!” “Self-made people many times have children who are self-made people… they understand that there are a lot of moving parts” “I spent so much extra energy trying to force things… sometimes you force and you get it, it does move the needle, but I wish I could back and do it again, and just try and enjoy.” https://www.instagram.com/andreabendewald/ https://theartofcircling.com/ The Potential to Powerhouse podcast features conversations with experts, thought leaders, and trailblazing entrepreneurs who share their success secrets to help lift others up. Parenting often feels like we're carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders. We focus more on the things we think we have to control, rather than the things that bring us joy. Today is a continuation of last week's episode about coaching our kids instead of controlling them. Dr. Bill Stixrud is a neuropsychologist whose take on adolescent brain development could have a significant shift on how you show up and help to support your child. He discusses how the sense of autonomy—not full control, but some amount of knowing that what you do matters—can actually raise the feelings of motivation, and create resilience and hope in both us and our kids. Dustin Peterson is a leadership trainer with Proof Leadership Group and works with organizations to help develop their culture. He is also the author of Reset: How to Get Paid and Love What You Do, and coaches individuals to help them get unstuck in their careers. He has served in a stake presidency in Houston, Texas, and also on a high council and as an early morning seminary teacher, and currently serves as a branch president. In this interview, originally recorded as a Facebook Live session, Dustin talks about clarifying personal purpose to better lead in all areas of your life. Highlights 4:45 About Dustin and what he does as a leadership trainer and career coach 6:00 Where his passion for purpose came from 7:30 Research study: What makes you an effective leader? Identified the only commonality is a clear sense of purpose with a story to go with it 10:15 Transferring this knowledge into the gospel and the church 12:20 Most of us just want to help other people, but we need to get more specific 13:10 What purpose is: your intention to contribute to the well-being of other people 15:20 The concepts for individual and organizational purpose are the same 16:55 Purpose can be confused with goals or a mission; focusing internally is demotivational 18:00 Your purpose is Your Big Why: What drives you 18:35 To identify your purpose you first need to know three things Purpose is broad and ambitious: a big, bold statement It serves as an umbrella over everything It's what wakes us up in the morning It's what motivates us to move forward and pulls us through the hard things "Be anxiously engaged in a good cause" Example of hospital custodial staff who saw themselves as healers 29:20 Macro-purpose, micro-purpose, nano-purpose: everything I do should have purpose 32:00 Dissonance of having a strong purpose and having goals that drive you elsewhere: purpose is the unifying force 33:20 Purpose is short: 10 words or less Share it with other people Edit it down 36:15 Purpose comes from the ups and downs of your life Draw a journey map line Purpose lies in the past, not the future 39:00 Routines to keep your purpose top-of-mind: reading it out loud as an affirmation 40:30 Example of ward council/bishopric purposes: look at the evolution of the unit you are in Let it guide all your goals Let the goals then guide your agenda 44:30 When your calling seems to be outside your purpose: example of educator looking for a way to stop dreading cafeteria duty 48:15 A purpose can't be identified in isolation; we can help others by being a listening ear and by reflecting what we see from the outside 50:10 What has helped shape who I am today? Questions to ask yourself to help identify your purpose: What three people have most shaped who I am today, and why? What are three experiences that have most affected you and why? What are three interests that are most motivating and fulfilling? Imagine you could write the script for you life, knowing everything would go as well as it possibly could. What is the story you'd like to see unravel before you? What is a problem that you see in your family/church/community/city that really bothers you and you want to solve? What is a problem you see that you really want to get to the heart of, that's near and dear to who you are? 52:05 Two forces push against us when it comes to the choice to step up and lead: resistance from the adversary telling us not to grow (fear, lack of confidence, self-doubt) and the reaffirming voice of the Lord telling us to lift where you stand Links Leading with Your God-Given Talents | An Interview with Dustin Peterson Reset: How to Get Paid and Love What You Do, by Dustin Peterson https://thepurposeblueprint.com/training Email: dustin at proofleadership.com Read the TRANSCRIPT of this podcast Note: This transcript was machine-produced.
