Peter Doggers is an award-winning chess journalist who is currently the director of News and Events at Chess.com. His role has given him a ringside seat to modern chess history, as he has attended many of the world's top events, and interviewed the likes of GM Garry Kasparov, Hikaru Nakamura, and countless others. Peter's new book, The Chess Revolution: From the Ancient World to the Digital Age covers everything from the beginnings of chess, to its many representations in pop culture, to the explosion in popularity the game has experienced in the internet age. Peter's excellent book covers chess from all angles, so we zeroed in on a few of my favorite topics from the book including: the history of chess and computers, recent stories around chess cheating, and their implications for the future of chess, the rise of Chess.com, and the story behind the making of Peter's book. This week's guest is renowned author and 2-time Massachusets state champion, FM Charles Hertan. Charles' new book, The Real Paul Morphy takes an all encompassing look at the complex legacy of Paul Morphy. Morphy is widely regarded as the best player of the 19th century, yet still might be underappreciated. What made Morphy's play so special?  Why isn't he mentioned more often in the chess G.O.A.T. conversations? What led to his unexpected mental health struggles? In addition to discussing Paul Morphy, we talk about why Charles retired at OTB chess near a peak rating of 2500 USCF, and Charles shares advice from his classic tactics manual, Forcing Chess Moves and offers some chess improvement advice. Tonight, we'll read the opening to “The Exploits and Triumphs, In Europe, of Paul Morphy, The Chess Champion.” It was published in 1859 and written by Frederick Milnes Edge, who was Morphy's secretary.  Paul Morphy, born in New Orleans in 1837, was considered the greatest chess player of his era. He was a child prodigy who learned to play chess simply by watching family members play. When he was only 9 years old, he was hailed as the best chess player in his city. This book describes Morphy's trip to Europe in 1858. After his triumphs in Europe, he was considered the unofficial World Chess Champion, as official championship tournaments were only held starting in 1886, almost thirty years later. — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Transhumanism! In 1957 scientist Julian Huxley introduced A philosophical and scientific movement that advocates crypnics, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering and nanotechnology to reverse the aging process, help humans evolve and help our organisms reach a higher level of existence. Refining the human species and the human condition has been an addictive practice by scientist world wide and funded by satanic elites to manipulate its usage. The invention of computers and space travel only created a hub for investors and scientists to overlap the natural ideas of evolution with a perverse notion of control, depopulation and destruction. With it, grew ext-ropy and an agresiva academic discipline. And ….. It is now an unethical practice when exposed to the general public.

Chess Books Recaptured is back for another monthly book review/recap. This month I am joined by UX designer and recently-minted chess enthusiast, Jessi Shakarian to discuss the 1921 classic, Chess Fundamentals by former World Champion, Jose Raoul Capablanca. Jessi provides the perspective of someone new to chess who was looking to learn some basics from one of the all time greats of the game. Today's Episode with Damen Fletcher:Damen Fletcher is the founder of Train of Thought, a program that gives every child access to the wonderful game of Chess. The purpose of Train of Thought is to give children the tools they need to make the right decisions in chess, but also in life. Growing up in Compton, Damen lived in a place of frequent violence and drug use. He wanted to bring a positive influence to Compton and other cities so that kids and adults can find their own path. Damen's goal is to teach Chess all over the world and make it accessible to anyone, no matter their background. When you build something that is valuable and that people need, it will sell itself. If people see value in what you are offering, you won't need to pitch it so hard to others.Social media hasn't been something that Damen uses often to grow the business. Instead, he always makes an effort to have conversations with new people, creating connections and sharing what he does. In terms of hiring and advertising, they post on platforms like Indeed and use word of mouth. In the interview process, there is rarely conversation about chess itself, but rather about their values and lifestyles.Train of Thought uses tools and resources such as Asana as a project management tool, Keep for communication, and chesskid.com to manage all of their students.Damen's biggest challenge right now is getting conversations about Chess and Train of Thought to happen in places where he is not. If Damen were a chess piece, he would be a knight! Knights will always find a way to get to its destination despite the obstacles blocking it and are willing to put themselves in danger for the greater good. Find out more about Damen and Train of Thought at https://www.chesstrain.org/Hot seat answers! Apple or Android: AppleFavorite book: Morphy's Game of ChessFavorite chess player: Paul Morphy Favorite movie: 12 Angry MenApp you can't live without: Apple MusicDo you believe in aliens?: Ideal Vacation Spot: Home Best album: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Best Amazon purchase in the last 6 months: Room LightsSelf-care activity of choice: A cigarFavorite TV show: The Cosby ShowBook title written about Damen's life: Knight VisionEnjoy the show? All-star and heavy hitter Drew (@anrilefebvre) joins the Morphy boys once more to continue the saga of Aldrea for book 34. They compare aliases. Then Tyler goes into tinder stories. Then Nate brings up the girl who took Tyler's virginity. They then discuss how Cassie has a strong internal monologue. Marco loves the Phantom Menace. Nate posits that this book is The Clone Wars so it's time for mc chris. Cassie gets a ghost in her brain. Tyler derails a nice thoughtful point to talk about horns and holes. All in all this is a sad book. Nate explains what “mouth bored” is. Chili lime salt for dem ears. Nate is always one-upping Tyler. Nate interrupts Drew. Drew does an amazing shredder sound effect. The Animorphs do a crazy plan that involves dropping a whale on stuff. Drew does whale facts. No human is ten feet tall. We learn a lot about whale milk. It's intense. Tonight, we’ll read the opening to “The Exploits and Triumphs, In Europe, of Paul Morphy, The Chess Champion.” It was published in 1859 and written by Frederick Milnes Edge, who was Morphy’s secretary.Paul Morphy, born in New Orleans in 1837, was considered the greatest chess player of his era. He was a child prodigy who learned playing chess simply by watching family members play. When he was only 9 years old, he was hailed as the best chess player in his city. This book describes Morphy's trip to Europe in 1858. After his triumphs in Europe, he was considered the unofficial World Chess Champion, as official championship tournaments were only held starting in 1886, almost thirty years later.— read by 'N' —Remember to head to headspace.com/snoozecast for a free one-month trial of Headspace’s clinically proven meditation app.

Since our first interview in June of 2019, IM Cyrus Lakdawala has increased the number of books he has authored to 50! Cyrus’ newest published book is Rewire Your Chess Brain: Endgame Studies and Mating Problems to Enhance Your Tactical Abilities . I have been excited for this book because endgame studies have frequently been mentioned by guests as an effective way to improve one’s visualization abilities and pattern recognition. The book did not disappoint me! It is filled with creative, diabolical and often difficult chess problems that can stump you for hours or days. We also discuss Cyrus’ recent award-winning book  In the Zone: The Greatest Winning Streaks in Chess History. In the book, Cyrus deconstructs the magic of chess hot streaks and reveals who he thinks had the most impressive tournament performance of all time. For those interested in chess improvement, this interview is packed with useful advice. Cyrus shares his advice for how to tackle difficult chess problems, and reveals a simple formula for how one should allocate one’s chess study time. Please read on for lots more details and timestamps.   0:00-  We begin  by discussing his newest, the excellent book of endgame studies and difficult mate problems, Rewire Your Chess Brain.     Mentioned: Episode 129 With Cyrus Lakdawala: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/perpetual-chess-podcast/id1185023674?i=1000440582141 Chess Endgame Studies and Compositions Facebook Group- https://www.facebook.com/groups/544412592978833 Also Mentioned:  GM Max Illingworth, Jonathan Fry, GM Nigel Short, GM Alexei Shirov, Joseph William Abbott    “It’s not the solving that matters, it’s the combination of straining to solve… mixed with seeing an original pattern in the solution, and you are adding to your internal database a new pattern.”  13:15- This episode is brought to you in part by Chesskid.com.
