What a year... I’m Susan Schwartz, your drinking companion, and this is Lush Life Podcast, every week we are inspired to live life one cocktail at a time. I keep thinking of something that my past guest Johnny Livanos told me  - his grandfather picked the restaurant business because he knew that everyone would always need somewhere to eat.   Unfortunately, he had no idea that we would have a pandemic to contend with, with most of us in some kind of lockdown, making it impossible to visit our favorite bars and restaurants.  During this impossibly difficult time, this industry that I love so much has pulled together and supported each other, and we cocktail lovers have bought cocktails to go, had cocktails delivered, and donated to the fundraising pages of our favorite bars.  Next Tuesday, I bring you Season 5, I can’t believe it, of Lush Life - introducing you to more folks in our industry you might not know, sipping spirits that are new and savoring one that are old friends, plus as always, making our cocktail of the week for you to try at home. Although I had made it a rule always to interview my guests face to face, I now am at the mercy of the interweb. This means, though, that I can interview more people from around the world!!  So join me next week when the fun really begins. The Tom Collins is our cocktail of the week! Here’s the Ithaca Minute from 14850 Today for September 5th. The City of Ithaca made on-street parking and the first three hours in city-owned garages free this March, and resumed charging parking fees at reduced rates in June. Next Tuesday, September 8, the City says they’re returning to standard on-street parking rates and eliminating the temporary free first hour of parking in City-owned garages. The hourly parking rate is $1.50 for parking at paystations or the remaining coin-only “lollipop” style parking meters in a few parts of town. Parking in the City-owned garages costs $1 per hour, with a daily maximum of $10 at downtown garages and $15 in Collegetown. Each spring, students and others leaving town leave behind tons of items they don’t need, and volunteers collect it for resale every August to raise money for local charities and keep reusable items out of the waste stream. Most years, Cornell hosts an annual Dump & Run Sale in August, but this year due to COVID concerns, the sale is being handled off campus by Finger Lakes ReUse. But let me try to keep it simple... Naomi is a founder and head of Fab Five Tokyo, a creative consulting company. She is also simply awesome. Long time listeners will recognize Brooklyn Terry as a previous guest of the podcast. With his crew, Elite Force, he is a pioneer in the global house music dance community and highly formative in Japans exposure to the Black dance music culture in general. Also a ton of other things that we mention during the recording. For this episode we focus on their newest project, Japan For Black Lives. Which is a non-profit cross cultural endeavor to discuss racism and Black culture with the Japanese community. Inspired by recent events and decades of conversations with Japanese people, they hope to creative more awareness and context for the experiences Black people face in Japan and abroad. So we get into that but it also the MEGA LATE SHOW, so ridiculousness ensues. Joining in as guest co-host is our homegirl, Afrodyty. Singer, songwriter, musician extraordinaire. Next Tuesday the second half of the podcast that focuses on music. We have a long discussion about WAP and share some gems. Stay plugged in. Thanks for listening. Welcome! Good morning, everybody. I was on with Jim Polito and we discussed the reality of business security problems today, how they are getting worse and why we have to fix them.  Here we go with Jim. For more tech tips, news, and updates visit - CraigPeterson.com ---  Automated Machine Generated Transcript: Craig Peterson: The way you do that type of cyber attack in this day and age is you don't come out and say, Hey, it's time. [00:00:11] Hi everybody. Craig Peterson here. That's S O N you'll find me online@craigpeterson.com. That was me with Mr. Jim Polito we talked about how things are much worse than we may realize. I got into real-world stuff what's happening right now to our businesses and to our homes. This is, this is something I think everybody needs to be really aware of. And maybe trying to something about it. [00:00:47]Jim Polito:  He is the man. He is the myth. He is the legend. I'm talking about our good friend and tech talk guru. Craig Peterson. Good morning, Craig. [00:01:01] Hey, next Tuesday will be our Canada day Eve edition of our visit with the tech talk guru. Oh, you didn't think I would forget Canada day. Did you? [00:01:16] Craig Peterson: No Canada got its independence kind of in 1967. I remember that when I was in elementary school and, you know, they taught us the communist song. You know, This land is your land. [00:01:28] Okay. Canadian version. And we all stood there singing it and, you know, heralding the, our fellow comrades. but yeah, comrades. Yeah. [00:01:41] Jim Polito: No, that was a Canada day. Yeah, I know. No, believe me. I, I know. Well, speaking of comrades, our comrade, the little guy, rocket man. Has assembled a shall we say an army of 7,000 highly trained, highly skilled individuals. [00:02:02] Now people may say 7,000. What, what could they do? How about bringing about an Armageddon close to what a nuclear weapon could do. Am I correct that Kim Jong-UN now has a force that could bring about Armageddon. [00:02:23] Craig Peterson: Oh, you are dead on there. Jim, this is a scary thing, frankly, you know, we think of North Korea and we, we think about all of these people who are in everything are in concentration camps, through the cities, many people out in the rural areas, infected with all kinds of diseases. [00:02:43] And I don't want to get too gross about this, but if we think of it as really a. Third or maybe fourth world country and in many ways it is. But what has been going on in North Korea is apparently they've been receiving training in China or in Russia to build this massive cyber army. When you talk about bringing about a kind of an Armageddon, it is absolutely the case. [00:03:16] Look at what's happened with the Wuhan virus shutdown that we have right now. Right. Nobody wants to get Covid-19, which makes a whole lot of sense. Right. But now what these guys and gals could potentially do is go after our power systems and other infrastructure.  If they got to the right place at the right time, they could bring our electric grid back to the 18 hundreds. [00:03:48]It could take months in order to recover. That would have. [00:03:54] Jim Polito: Yeah, no, it's bad. It's bad. [00:03:56] Craig Peterson: So, Kim Jung Un, rocket man, the little guy, while he can't develop the expertise to put together an Intercontinental ballistic missile and, he may have a bomb. Well, he's definitely got a bomb. You know, we can't put all that technology together. [00:04:17] He can go to his big brother in China. And say, teach me how to do all of this stuff. and we know that he's already really been successful. Remember, what was it? The Sony films hack after that movie, the interview came out. That was a spoof on him. And, to get even he set his dogs on a Hollywood and boy, they, they, they were effective. [00:04:44] Well, you might remember too, that the White House blamed North Korea for unleashing the Wanna Cry cyberattack back in 2017, three years ago. It was absolutely massive. It caused devastation worldwide. Now here's part of the problem with this, obviously. We don't want North Korea to be getting in and taking over systems or bringing various systems down, but they're a way you do this type of cyber attack in this day and age is you don't come out and say, Hey, it's like black lives matter. You've got people in the street who really are there, their hearts are in it. It's really because they care about black lives and, and who doesn't. Right. Behind all of these people are the Marxists who are throwing the firebombs. So we're doing various things to really stir up and foment all kinds of turmoil. [00:05:46] That's what we're seeing with North Korea because they can hop onto a computer. That's been taken over, let's say in wherever Eastern Europe, somewhere and from that computer, they hop onto a computer here in the United States. Somebody's own computer for instance and the person whose home computer they're using has no clue any of this is going on. [00:06:11] Even if they're on their computer at the time. And then they'll hop from that computer to another computer, to another computer. They'll use our computers as what are called botnets to attack our military, to attack our infrastructure. And in reality, Jim, we don't really know where it's coming from. [00:06:32] Jim Polito: Yeah. [00:06:33] Craig Peterson: Big because it's very difficult to trace. [00:06:35] Now we're talking with our tech talk guru friend, Craig, Peterson. and at the end of this segment, we'll give you a number that you can text my name to and get other information from Craig. Don't think that I'm the genius doing great show prep. He sent me the stuff about Kim Jong-UN and, and I've been reading through it and been and been quite concerned. Okay. I do sometimes hear from people. [00:06:57] Oh my God, Jim, when you and Craig talk about this stuff, you get me very concerned. Now I'm not talking about like a, business's being hacked. I'm talking about this kind of stuff, shutting down our power grid and things like that. [00:07:11] Jim Polito: Now, Craig, we have to assume that our government has a counter to this. Is it reasonable for me to assume that [00:07:24] Craig Peterson: Yeah, it absolutely is. We have first strike offensive capabilities in the cyber world and all branches of our military have Cyber teams that put the 7,000 North Korea have to shame. So we have both defensive capabilities, which frankly we're not using as much as we should because incompetence runs rampant in every field, but we also have both defensive capabilities. [00:07:57] Jim Polito: God. it's just so the real war in the future, remember that Star Trek episode where the computers. You know, there was war between the computers and the, and the enterprise was attacked and X amount of, members of their crew were supposed to walk off to be executed because, in this war games where there's no, the actual firing of weapons, the computers had determined that they had lost that the enterprise had been hit well in the room. [00:08:31] Well, I mean here with us, we're not too far away from it. [00:08:34] Craig Peterson: Yeah. That's one of my favorite episodes is called a taste of Armageddon, the original Star Trek series. And we are not in some ways very far away from that, because most countries don't want to lob a nuclear weapon. Pretty easy to tell where it came from, especially now that almost everybody can look down from space to see where it was. [00:08:55] Jim Polito: Yeah. [00:08:56]Craig Peterson: It's, it's very hard to trace, these attacks that are going on. Now, part of what Kim Jong loon apparently had done, he was able to break into some South Korean defense contractors stole about 40,000 of these things, including information on F 16 fighters and drones. Now, I, I hate to say this next part. [00:09:22] Because, you know, what I do for a living is I help businesses put their security together. [00:09:28] Jim Polito: Okay. [00:09:29] Craig Peterson: So we get calls from businesses every week and saying, Hey, you know, we've got these new CMMC regulations, which are part of the department of defense. You know, ITAR, DFARS, all these different things. we, can you come in and help us out with this and the part I don't want it to say is [00:09:50] I'm not going to say this is every time we go in but we're seeing nowadays not only a lot of attacks against these extremely small defense contractors, but I'm also not talking about the Raytheon's of the world. I'm talking about the local business that makes an assembly. That sold to a defense contractor that is sold maybe to another defense contractor and sold to the department of defense. [00:10:17] I'm not going to say that I go into these businesses and every time, but over the last, basically, since at least the beginning of the year, we have found it Chinese back doors wide open. And what's that mean? Is, yes, our defense contractors. You look at this, right. And then, apparently, North Korea bought these plans for the F 16 fighters and drones. [00:10:45] Well, how do they do that? Well, they get these back doors installed and then. Every case we have where we found these things. And in fact, we found a very small defense contractor that I had the worst infection ever seen by the Boston FBI office. And they all had antivirus software. They all had walls. They all thought the word safe. [00:11:16] Jim Polito: And they're not. Wow. [00:11:18] Craig Peterson: So you didn't hear from me, but that's the real skinny on what we're seeing out there on the streets right now. [00:11:26] Jim Polito: Okay. Yeah. this is not good. This is not good, but what you need to do. Is to protect yourself by getting the latest information. And that's by listening to the segment with Craig Peterson, but that is also getting on his list, his good list where he will not try to sell you stuff or hack you. [00:11:44] And all that you have to do is tax my name to this number (855) 385-5553. [00:11:53] Craig Peterson: So you can text Jim to (855) 385-5553. And I also answer questions. It may take me a few days. We're pretty busy, but just send an email to me@craigpeterson.com about any questions, whether you're a defense contractor or you're a home user, right. I'm helping people in their eighties every day as well. Jim. [00:12:16] Jim Polito: All right. And standard data and tax rates apply Craig. An excellent segment as usual, and we look forward to talking with you on Canada day Eve. Next Tuesday. [00:12:30] Craig Peterson: Thanks, Jim. I'll buy the Molson. [00:12:32] Jim Polito: Thanks, buddy. Bye-bye. All right. When we return a final word. [00:12:36] Craig Peterson: Awesome. All right, everybody, we'll be having a great week. We have some amazing stuff planned. this Karen and I were sitting down. Trying to figure out how can we help the most people, what's the most important thing for us to do. And we are going to be teaching that we've got all of the basics put together. [00:12:56] It's going to take us probably a couple more weeks. I know it's always a couple of weeks, right. And we're going to show you exactly. How to tell if your computer needs a little bit more security or maybe a lot more security. So keep an ear to the ground. This is going to be absolutely free training and it's coming up. [00:13:18] I Got you guys. [00:13:20] Take care. I'll be back tomorrow. With the new filter that makes adults look like children, is Snapchat part of the massive corporations taking control of the internet to facilitate pedophilia?! Interesting, is it not? Here's my opinion on the subject of Snapchat applying this filter to their platform. Apologies for the "news" promotion and into an angry rant but I will improve the format in the future and bring to you an actual breaking news episode. I pretty much just came up with the idea as I rendered the file. PLEASE NOTE that the podcast WILL REMAIN the same. Next Tuesday the Supreme Court of Western Australia (March 5) hears a crucial issue concerning the right of an Environment Minister to sanction the extinction of a species. It's a complex legal issue, though, not argued on the intrinsic value of the species, or matters of biodiversity, but a legal technicality. That's the way all legal appeals funded by the community on environmental issues must work, until our state Labor government introduces an evidenced-based environment court. At a recent public forum, speakers from the Conservation Council of WA, the Environmental Defenders' Office, and the Australian Conservation Foundation wrestled with Yeelirrie's legal concerns, finding at least three issues: the limitations of the existing environmental protection laws; the issues of extinction they raise; and the role of the minister’s personal discretion in the environmental law process. At stake is the fate of stygofauna near a proposed uranium mine; the role of science in decisions affecting the environment, and the workings of our own democracy.

Skylines, the CityMetric podcast

Two interviews this week, which are both about the future of our cities but are otherwise unrelated except for allowing me to come up with a sort of pun on the word “high”.First up: drones, the remote-operated buzzy flying things that recently managed to shut down several of London’s airports. The innovation charity NESTA has produced a report looking at what drones will do for our society, how we need to regulate them, and what role local government is likely to play in that. I spoke to the report’s author Kathy Notstine about all those things and asked: is it worth it?In the back half, I talk to Skylines regular Paul Swinney of the Centre for Cities about the future of the high street – that, for non British listeners, is what towns generally call their central retail area (the name is roughly analogous to “Main Street”). Paul tells me how cities can regenerate their high streets in the age of Amazon.Next Tuesday, incidentally, I’ll be recording the second live edition of Skylines at the New Local Government Network’s annual conference in London. If you’re a local government professional, why not pop along?Skylines is the podcast from the New Statesman’s cities site, CityMetric. It’s hosted by Jonn Elledge and produced by Nick Hilton. The time is finally here!  Are you as pumped as we are for this episode?  The first ever Reel Film Nerds Poindexter Awards!  It also happens to be our 1-year anniversary by the way.  Wow a whole year of us chatting about movies, beer, and life.  How is that possible?  Here is your warning, this is our longest podcast ever!  It is an hour and 45 minutes!  The guys really had a blast recording it well eventually recording it.  Mike Talent gave up on trying to get is POS laptop working after 2 hours and grabbed an old desktop to record on.  Lots of beers were consumed in the interim which probably helped with the pod. Here is the run down.  There are 25 total categories for the Poindexter Awards.  The first part of the podcast your host’s fight it out over their picks in 13 different categories and there can only be one winner per category!  Next there are 2 Listeners’ Award categories that all of you voted for well hopefully you voted for.  Batting third are the Individual Awards.  These categories are more personal, fun, and even zany!  Each host gets a pick for each category with some discussion and laughs. Batting cleanup, the boys really get into it on their pick for the first Poindexter Award for Best Movie of the Year.  Whew I know that is a lot to process.  Don’t feel pressured to listen to the whole pod if you prefer not to.  Of course, we would prefer it if you did.  Next Tuesday kicks off year 2 of the RFN Podcast.  Matt and Mike are going to do their best to catch a movie twice in theaters, Alita: Battle Angel for Tuesday and Fighting With My Family for Thursday. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for listening to our podcast this past year.  If it wasn’t for you, our listeners, we would not be here doing this great podcast.  Again, thank you and get ready for an even better second year of talking about film, beer, and God knows what else.  Talk at you Tuesday and Happy Valentine’s Day!                 Thanks for tuning in for another episode of two nerds talking about movies.  Please do us a favor and tell your friends about the RFN podcast.  Don’t forget to subscribe and listen to our sister podcasts The Blue Milk Podcast, Code 3 Podcast, and The Mile High Show. Gabe Brown is a clear, collected, and inspired voice for regenerative agriculture, having implemented and seen great changes on his family's ranch in North Dakota over time. In fact, Gabe’s A-Horizon (topsoil) is 27 in, and the soils on surrounding farms only have 4-6 in of topsoil! Gabe is the author of the recently published and highly-acclaimed book, Dirt To Soil, from Chelsea Green. I highly recommend reading this truly inspiring and informative book. Speaking and teaching about the practical steps for soil regeneration and farm profitability for more than 15 years, Gabe is also a partner with Soil Health Consultants LLC, an all-star group of ag thinkers and doers engaged in challenging the status-quo of agriculture. In this episode Gabe and I speak about: The time when Dr. Norman put a 4 ft long probe into the ground and the soil would collapse with only 2 ft in the probe because of tremendous pore space. The reception of his book and the increased adoption of regenerative agriculture he’s observed. How to drive wholesale change in agriculture: the role of producers (most), consumers (a lot), processors (plenty) and government (not much!). His desire to educate consumers regarding their role as potential Regenerative Ag advocates who leverage their food purchasing power. The need for growers to focus on photosynthesis, carbon cycling, and support of  biological systems. The relative value of soil testing, which test is most valuable, and what to measure. The idea that Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium are abundant enough in soils and the atmosphere to supply all NPK needed for crop and livestock production, and can be made available through cover cropping and biological cycling. Dr. Norman's research on Gabe’s farm documenting soils with up to 70% pore space. The real potential to increase nutrient density, environmental conditions, and farm livelihood in the near-term. And the one thing he wishes every farmer in the country would do. This is Gabe's second time on the show and I am pleased to welcome him back. Listen to Gabe's and my previous episode, which received great feedback, here. Hope you Enjoy! John   P.S. Gordon Hayward’s last year has not been easy. Next Tuesday, Oct. 17, is the one-year anniversary of his unlucky fall in Cleveland that resulted in a broken left tibia and dislocated ankle. Jason Smeathers is Hayward’s friend and skills trainer, and has been with him for most of the last year. In Boston. In Miami. In Indianapolis. In San Diego. Smeathers picked Hayward up for workouts each day, put him through on-court workouts and served as part-time motivator and full-time friend. As part of “The Return” documentary published on The Athletic, I sat down with Smeathers to take you inside their work over the last year, the days where they just weren’t feeling it to the little things that kept them motivated. “Another one down. Great job. We’ll go back after it tomorrow,” Smeathers would often repeat to Hayward. They chose to focus on daily improvement rather than working with the big picture in mind. Improve every day became a motto for Hayward, who is 28 and in the second year of his contract with the Boston Celtics. Episode four of the five-part series focuses on his time spent back home again in Indiana. Subscribe to the Pacers Podcast on Apple Podcasts. I welcome your questions and comments @ScottAgness on Twitter or via email. Topics Discussed: His daily role in working with Gordon and how they were all in it together How Hayward’s family was prioritized and helped keep him get through it Their daily routine in Boston and San Diego, which began very early Focusing on each session rather than a timeline to return Gordon’s passion for gaming Gordon’s Grand Gauntlet

James Pearse Connelly (@jpconnelly, Instagram: @jpconnelly) is an Emmy-Award-winning television set designer. He's designed sets for shows like Bill Nye Saves the World, Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party, The Voice, and Top Chef. I wanted to have James on the show to learn how he does creativity on a large scale, with literally moving parts, and an unforgiving production schedule. I figured that to do what James does, which is express the feel of a show through architecture and materials and fabrics and furniture, and to deliver on-time, James must really know his creative process. And you can tell from this conversation, he really does. Even if you aren't a designer, chances are you work on creative projects all of the time that have lots of unknowns in the beginning. The work James does just puts a magnifying glass on what it takes to make creative work come with less pain, no matter what medium you're working in. In this show, you'll learn: How do you create a design that supports an idea and serves the client, rather than one that just follows trends. How does James manage his creative vision across a whole staff? We'll really get inside James's head for some of his best set designs. How does he integrate a subtle design language into his concepts? This was a really fun part of the conversation because you'll see how designers "talk" using subtle cues in their work. In this case, I think you'll be surprised all you can glean from a spiral staircase. Hit the Mic with The Stacey Harris

Welcome to episode 359 of Hit the Mic with The Stacey Harris. I'm really excited to talk about e-mail marketing today because inside of Hit the Mic Backstage right now, you'll find a full version of best practices, tips, tools, all of that stuff to grow your e-mail list and to actually use your e-mail list. Because as we're gonna talk about, it's not just about growth, it's about using it. And so you can check that out at HittheMicBackstage.com. Let's jump in on today. So, we're gonna talk about four things today. The first being goals, and the reason we're gonna talk about goals is because literally everything else we're gonna talk about ... In fact, growing your e-mail list at all doesn't matter if you're not clear on this part. I want you to really think about why you need an e-mail list, and we talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but really, like what is the purpose of your e-mail list? Now, I don't want you to tell me or yourself or whoever you're talking to about this because quote the money's in the list. Yes, you can monetize your list, but you still need to know how and who and why and with what and all of that stuff, and so you need to know your goals. My e-mail list absolutely has multiple goals. Ultimately, it's about getting clients, but it's not about getting one kind of client, and so ... And we're gonna talk about this a little bit later, then we have to look at things like segmentation, but that comes down to, again, knowing my goals. I am building new e-mail funnels all the time. Great, those only work if I know the goal. Think about what the purpose of your e-mail list is, it may have multiple purposes, it probably does as far as selling different things, but you have to know what those are. I had a client recently, and we talked about this a couple weeks ago, but I had a client recently and we were having this conversation and she was talking about just growing her list, and I was like, "Great. Why?" You know, maybe you want to run a live event. Okay, and obviously you want to have people to sell that live event to, but you need to know the timeline. There's your goal. Okay, so I know I want to have this event in January and it's June right now, it's gonna be July in just a few days, I want to build the list to increase interest in that. Awesome, now we have a goal and a timeline. We can absolutely start funneling an e-mail list towards that goal ultimately because we're providing them value. However, if it's, "I want to build an e-mail list because some day I want to do a group mastermind, a small group, high dollar, super VIP mastermind someday." Awesome, start building your list, keep building your list, and keep building your list, but now the people who joined your list let's say a year ago aren't necessarily in the same space. First of all, a lot of them might not still be in your list, but you're just building for the sake of building, and that's really where we get to our second point, which is the idea of quality over quantity. We talked about this in probably every scenario, in fact I know for a fact we've talked about it about this, a list of 10,000 people is only valuable if they're 10,000 people who give a crap about what you're talking about. This is why we don't buy e-mail lists, this is why we don't trick people into being on our list, this is why we don't break spam laws, this is why we deliver value and we keep engaging them because we want them to be quality leads. I would hands down rather have 1,000 quality leads or 100 quality leads than 10,000 names and e-mail addresses that mean nothing, that do nothing, to send an e-mail address and get no response, to send an e-mail broadcast and nobody even opens it much less clicks it. What is the purpose of that? That is not longer a business investment, it is now a business expense and that's not giving you any value and it's not allowing you to give anybody value. So, this is why we go back to point number one and we have goals. We know why we're building our list. It's also why moving to our third thing, this is why we get specific. We do things like segmentation and using our lists or tags or however your system is set up or groups, I think is what they are called in mail chimp, to be identifying the exact needs of people on our list. Not everyone on my list, for example, is created equal. We have people who are in sales funnels geared towards Hit the Mic Backstage, we have people who are in Hit the Mic Backstage who I can ... Who maybe interested in something like Bam or one on one calls. I also have people on my list who have signed up after seeing me speak or having met me at an event and who want to know more about what I know because they're looking at hiring us for strategy or consulting or hiring our team for management or hiring me for one on one coaching or their team training for their own social media teams or digital marketing teams or whatever the case may be, so we use segmentation to target content to each of them specifically. Now, I will be absolutely, completely transparent with you, this is not something I do a good enough job at right now. Hands down, absolutely, I wish this is something I would have started doing much freaking sooner than I did it because for a long time I had one big list and that list was just that, it was a list, and it had zero segmentation, and so as the list has grown and as we have learned, we do have some segmentation, but there is absolutely so much valuable information about the people who are on my list that I straight up don't have because I waited too long to start segmenting them. I waited too long to start using things like tags to identify what people were clicking on, how people were engaging, the people that read every single e-mail and click on every single podcast, and the people who haven't looked at anything in months 'cause guess what guys? It doesn't matter how long you've been doing this or how amazing you are, there will be people that fit into both categories. Absolutely I wish I would have started doing that so much freaking sooner, but it's absolutely one of the best things I've started doing in the last ... Let's see, I started really doing it probably 18 months ago. I started really taking it seriously this year, but something I wish I would have done like four years ago. Seriously. Take that step now. The sooner you can do it, the further ahead you're gonna be, and even if it feel like it's way too late and you already have 1,000 or 5,000 people on your e-mail list and you're like "Oh, there's no way." Start segmenting the new people. Start segmenting based on how people are clicking so you can get that data, get that information. Absolutely. Okay? And all of that of course leads us to our fourth thing, which is consistency really does matter. Not just in, "Okay, I'm sending them a weekly or a bi-weekly or a monthly e-mail update about what's going on in the website." But in that initial sequence, so they signed up for something, don't just send them a welcome e-mail and the next e-mail they get is whatever your frequency of standard newsletters goes out. No, have some e-mails in that follow up sequence. Have some content, some additional value, a sales message, whatever it needs to be for you where you're at in your business. It's one of the reasons I do like challenges and things like that, and if you've signed up for either of the funnels we have going right at the moment you know how we structure this, but basically people sign up for a multi day training series where they in the initial e-mail actually get a webinar that has all the same information, and then they get a follow up sequence with the training series so they can work through it. And then they get a follow up e-mail with the sales message and on that webinar there's a sales message, there's the opportunity to get a trial backstage, and then guess what? Then they go into our regular sequence of e-mails. Instead of just going, "Okay, here you go." And then, "Here's jumping into the middle of the book. Here's our regular e-mails." No, we take that time to get people starting and moving and going with us for a little while. We give them that value. We connect. We work through the thing they initially had a frustration around, and then we through them into the e-mail pool. Okay? And again, you can be using that segmentation to be sending them e-mails that are really specific to what their needs are. Now, my general newsletter, I'll be totally honest, it's the same for everybody. I don't segment that very much right now. That may change going into the third quarter of this year, I'm really thinking about testing specific e-mail copy to specific segments of my audience. I have done that around sales opportunities or affiliate stuff, but I think we're gonna actually test in probably August segmenting the actual newsletter and seeing how that affects open rates, and it's gonna start with just testing different headlines. But I can do that because I put that segmentation into place. Because I've been consistent already, I have a ground level amount of data. Because I focus on quality over quantity, I have a gaged e-mail list who wants to hear from me and who is actually engaging. So again, I will have some data to work with, and I have all of those things and I'm able to test these things because I have very specific goals. I know exactly what kind of result we're getting to so I can tell if these things work or don't work. Do you see how all of that really comes into being able to test these things? All right. That's it. That's all I've got for you today. I want you do take action on this stuff and let me know how this goes because, again, this stuff is killer. If you want to take this a step further, be sure to join us Hit the Mic Backstage, that's where you will find the extended version of this training. The full training where we're talking about more tips, more tools, more tactical how tos on growing your list, and like I said tools, my favorites, my preferences, and a lot more. Cool? A lot of people are calling it the e-mail list killer, I prefer not to call things the killers of other things, it's just me. We'll look and see how it goes. The prize is gonna go to those people who use it correctly and use it authentically, so I know it's gonna be you. Check out that training HittheMicBackstage.com. I'll see you there.

Click Here to Grab Your Show Notes!I am SO excited to share with you a topic that I recently shared with my Introverted Girl Boss Academy, that has my Founding Members fired UP.It hit home because they realized that this area needed serious cleaning up in their lives. And they could see the potential it had to change everything. It changed everything for me, too.You know, so many women come to me asking about how to create a successful online business as a coach. And when I say “coach”, I’m referring to any type of woman who works with anyone in a 1-on-1 capacity, whether that be as a life coach, a wellness coach, a purpose coach, a health coach, a fitness coach. What are you doing today to build your successful, future business? One of the questions I ask is what are you currently doing today in order to build your successful, future business for yourself. And sometimes, I hear an outlined plan of action. Sometimes, as in… 1 in 10.I more often hear a range of responses, from “I’m in a huge life transition right now, and started my business, but got sidetracked, and am now ready to take action, but don’t know what that is yet” to “I’ve researched a ton but don’t know where to start” to “I’m getting my website up, and don’t really know what to do after that, but know that’s important… right?”And the truth is, these are all forms of what my own mentor and business coach, Gina DeVee, calls “feminine woo-hoo-ery”. I love that term because I know it intimately - I lived in feminine woo-hoo-ery land for a long time, and it’s funny to poke fun at it because it’s a pattern that I know so many of us can fall into if we’re not careful. As feminine women, we can have trouble bridging the gap between getting shit done and still feeling free and in touch with our intuitive and feminine side. This can result in a couple of different outcomes - we can either lean towards being more masculine, and slowly moving away from our feminine nature, or leaning towards our feminine, and forsaking the masculine structures. Or, we can be balanced and know when to use the feminine and masculine sides for good. We all have both elements in us.So if this is all confusing to you, let me take a step back and talk in real life terms.A (Super) Crash Course In Femininity vs. MasculinityThe feminine is the side of us that longs to be free, in tune, aligned, in love, is passionate, blissful, joyous, light-filled. It’s our intuition, our empathy. It’s the flowing water in the river. The masculine side of us is the structure, the earth that forms around the river and makes the river… well, a river! It’s the side that is full of structure, plans, scheduling, logistics, solutions. The successful woman entrepreneur knows when to use both sides to her advantage. If she falls too much into her feminine, she has wishy-washy dreams and desires and intentions, but nothing ever happens. If she falls too much into her masculine, she has goals and plans with no soul, and she’ll eventually burn out and lose her light, her intuition. Personally, I grew up being super structured and masculine, because I related a lot more to my dad, and he has a very masculine personality. As I grew up, I started to awaken to my feminine side, and she felt so foreign and new to me, but like a breath of fresh air. Today, I bring both elements to my business. I love accomplishing things, I am ambitious and driven and I love making things happen… but I am so aware of my need to tune into my self, turn inward, and come back to myself. So, all of this to say, I’d love to propose a way for you to navigate both the masculine and the feminine sides of your personality, to bring a new level of success and fulfillment in your business and life. The ONE Thing You're Probably Not DoingAll of this can be achieved with… your calendar.Your calendar is the masculine structure that allows the river to be, to flow. Without it, the river would not be possible. But without the water (the feminine energy force), the structure would just be a ditch.Using and following your calendar properly is one of the most POWERFUL things you can do right now that will help you bring your dreams to real life. And that’s where you want them, right?!If you have resistance to this, get curious about it, and do what you need to do to clear the resistance - success lies on the other side of it.You can start off small, scheduling in pockets of times in your week to work on creating your business. Or you can go hard, and create a full schedule for yourself, calendaring out every minute of every day (which is what I do). And don’t think that I don’t calendar out free time - I have large chunks of time in there for working out, meditating, journaling, hanging out with my husband, and self-care. It’s crazy - so many of these things that I actually want to do, don’t get done if it’s not in my schedule - it remains a “one day”.Resources To Support You - A Brave, New, Calendar-ing, You!Alright, I hope by now, I’ve convinced you to get started on creating your schedule!! I have a few resources I’d love to share with you about scheduling:The first is Google Calendar - I live by my Google Calendar because my clients schedule in sessions with me directly, and I can plan everything out, hour by hour. The second resource I have for you is Wunderlist - it is a super fun way to make lists! I actually have time in my calendar that I call “Wunderlist” time, and I have a “Wunderlist” list for every day of the week. For example, Mondays and Fridays are my BIG Wunderlist days, and Tuesdays-Thursdays, I don’t always get to it, because that’s when I work with clients. The last resource I want to share with you is the Passion Planner. It’s a great hour-by-hour, written planner that has a nice, clean layout. I used it when I first started my business, and it worked until I gave my clients the ability to schedule themselves directly into my calendar. Before you calendar, I recommend you do a brain dump of absolutely everything you want to do - things that you’ve always been meaning to do, but haven’t been able to do, for whatever reason. Then, create a Wunderlist for every day of the week and write these things in for you to take action on.Your calendar allows you to live the life you WANT, and sets great boundaries for you on your time and energy. I can’t wait to hear about what this changes for you!Remember to download your show notes below for a quick reference guide to all of the great resources I shared with you today, and for a look at my own calendar. Also, leave me a comment below - what is ONE action item you were inspired to do after listening to today’s Podcast?Alright loves, that’s all I have for you today! Donald Trump to GOP establishment: 'Embrace what's happening'. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump opened the CNN debate here Thursday by calling on his party leadership to "accept" what is happening in the 2016 election. Trump, who is dominating the GOP primary season, said his campaign has spurred unprecedented enthusiasm and turnout. "The Republican establishment, or whatever you want to call it, should embrace what's happening," Trump said. A week after the last raucous Republican debate at which Trump boasted about the size of his manhood, Thursday's forum struck softer tones -- at least initially. Personal insults that dominated previous debates were largely absent, replaced instead by a policy-oriented discussion on issues including immigration and Social Security. "So far, I can't believe how civil it's been up here," Trump quipped. Trump addressed an issue that has tripped him up in the past: H-1B visas that encourage legal immigration for high-skilled workers. He called the program "very, very bad for workers," but in the same breath, acknowledged that he uses it in his hiring practices. "I know the H-1B very well. I use it. I shouldn't be allowed to use it," Trump said, adding that the program should simply not exist. Trump or Cruz? GOP leaders shake their heads, prepare to choose Trump and three other White House hopefuls at the debate are heading into a week that could alter the course of the 2016 election. Trump is at his usual spot at center stage. With a sizeable lead in the delegate race, the New York billionaire holds the best chance of clinching the Republican Party's nomination. To his left is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who -- bolstered by his recent primary victories -- is urgently pleading with the party to help him defeat Trump. Marco Rubio and John Kasich may have the most to gain or lose. Both have had a disappointing few months and badly trail in the delegate path. Next Tuesday, each man will face the voters of their respective home states of Florida and Ohio. For both candidates, losing those contests would likely be the death knell for their campaigns. The outcomes in Florida and Ohio will be critical in shaping the course of the GOP race. A Fox News poll released Wednesday showed Kasich with a narrow lead ahead of Trump in Ohio; in Florida, Trump was well ahead of Rubio. Ted Cruz's challenge: uniting Republicans against Trump If this poll bears out and Kasich is able to eke out a win in Ohio, that could suddenly make him the establishment favorite and earn him fresh support from party leaders and donors uncomfortable with the idea of Trump or Cruz becoming the nominee. If Trump, as he is predicting, wins both Florida and Ohio and picks up the 165 delegates that are at stake in the two winner-take-all states, his candidacy would turn into a runaway train.

There are more than a few of u "bozos" out there in FaceBook Land that are stinking up the joint w/this Bernie Sandwich Shit! I gotta tell u, this ain't the time or place - as of RIGHT NOW! Why? DONALD TRUMP, That's why, Turkeys! I'm a hard-assed Progressive who knows when to make a strategic retreat and when to charge hard.Trump will be the GOP nominee & he's nothing more than the Corleone family heading straight for the White House with no regard for ANY American nicety, tradition or historical landmark. This is the underworld versus the rest of us citizens. Bernie Sanders ain't the cat to take on something like this. He'll get cut to ribbons.   No, the times call for a ball-busting, domineering dominatrix - in Hillary Clinton those criteria are more than fulfilled. Hillary was born to run against someone precisely like DONALD TRUMP. Hillary will have Trump's balls by Oct. and shove them down his throat by Nov.!! Dan, cut the shit out! 1 more Bernie Sanders video and I'm gonna take out my Voodoo doll (w/ur picture on it) & start sticking pins in it, daily!  Really doesn't matter, because after this Sat., Feb. 27th & NEXT TUESDAY, SUPER TUESDAY (March 1st), It's gonna become real goddamned obvious that Madam Secretary will be kicking it into high gear. She'll be leaving Bernie in the dust. This ain't gonna be that long of a slog as the so-called clever pundits would have us believe. No way, Amigos! Starting this Sat./Feb. 27th - we have South Carolina & then March 1st - Alabama - Arkansas - Georgia - Oklahoma - Tennessee - Texas - Virginia & I'll Include Minnesota - close to Hillary's home state of Illinois! Just to pile it on even further - On March 5th you have Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana & Kentucky. By this time Hillary will have insurmountable lead (she already has close to 400 Super Delegate VOTES, alone!).

Why do they get to tell you "HOW TO PRAY" and who you can pray for"  Who is really in charge of AA. If no one is why are AA sponsors bossing you around? If no one is responsible or in charge why are they paying themsleves 400k a year to run the big fancy office in NYC on Riverside Drive?  How do priests really feel about AA?  The 9th Circut Court of Appeal has deemed AA too religious in many states including California. So why does someone get sent  50 AA meetings by a Judge in 2012? Is he breaking the law? Is he responsable and liable if she gets raped by an AA guy? How bout shot in the head?
