Weirdos! For August's BONUS EPISODE we are focusing on an entity that has MANY faces and wears MANY hats: The bogeyman! For as long as people have been telling stories, these supernatural beings have been lurking in the woods, or in the dark alleys, or under the bed. They might look different depending on the culture they come from, or be called by another name, but their function in society is consistent: to invoke fear! References Briggs, Katharine. 1978. SSO or It's a No-Go: The Deal-Breakers One School Leader Won't Negotiate On

Marketing and Education

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 28, 2026 47:44 Transcription Available

Most EdTech companies pitch schools before they understand how decisions get made inside them. School budgets are tight, sales cycles are long, and trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. In a market this crowded, the vendors who succeed are rarely the loudest ones. They are the ones who understand what a school leader is weighing before they ever pick up the phone.Smita Kolhatkar has sat on both sides of that equation. She spent 15 years in high tech before becoming an educator, and today she is Assistant Head for Innovation, Responsible AI and EdTech at Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto. She evaluates new products constantly, built her school's AI Tinkery program to teach AI literacy from kindergarten up, and has a clear, specific list of what earns her trust and what ends a conversation before it starts. In this conversation, Smita walks through her actual buying process: the no-gos that end a pitch immediately, why conference expo halls still outperform months of email outreach, and why a single "no" from her can quietly close the door at several other schools too. It's a clear look at what that decision-making looks like from the other side of the table, for anyone marketing or selling into K-12.What You'll LearnThe specific deal-breakers that end a vendor conversation immediately, including SSO integration and cross-platform compatibilityThe buying signals that earn her attention, and the outreach habits that shut a conversation down fastWhy a single school leader's "no" often reaches ten other schools through her professional networkWhy conference expo halls remain one of her most valuable discovery channels, even in a digital-first marketWhy AI literacy needs to start at age five, and how her school's AI Tinkery program puts that into practiceHer take on the no-screens debate, and why treating EdTech as all-or-nothing misses the real question schools are askingWhy It MattersEdTech companies are working in one of the toughest sales environments in years: tighter budgets, longer sales cycles, and a market flooded with AI tools faster than schools can evaluate them. What Smita describes is not just one school's experience, it is a window into how school leaders across the country are making these calls right now. She is not only a buyer, she is a connector: when something works, it moves through her professional network, and when something falls flat, that travels just as fast. For EdTech marketers and sales teams, the lesson is that a sale is never just to one person. The trust built or lost in a single conversation compounds across an entire network of schools.Resources Mentioned in this Episode:Gideon Hausner Jewish Day SchoolThe K-8 school where Smita serves as Educational Technology and Innovation Director.AI Tinkery at HausnerThe maker-style AI lab Smita built for students to experiment hands-on with AI tools and concepts.AI Tinkery at Stanford GSEThe Stanford Graduate School of Education program that inspired Smita's AI Tinkery model, credited to Dr. Karin Forssell.Stanford Accelerator for LearningAn overview of the Stanford initiative behind the AI Tinkery framework.AI Quests and Day of AIA resource Smita references for structured AI literacy activities.Hour of AI A companion resource to Hour of Code, focused specifically on AI literacy."The Learning Frontier"Hausner's AI in Education confererence for educators.Smita Kolhatkar on LinkedIn

Here's a number that should change how you think about retirement: 12. That's about how long a healthy 60-year-old has before mobility, energy, and independence begin to decline. Let that sink in. Too many financial plans are built around steady, flat income over 25–30 years. But real life doesn't work that way. As Peter Richon with Richon Planning explains to Erin Kennedy, spending tends to follow a pattern:  "Go-Go" years: Travel, experiences, living fully  "Slow-Go" years: Less activity, more time at home  "No-Go" years: Healthcare and essentials take priority In fact, research shows spending on travel and leisure often peaks around age 75, then declines… not because the money is gone, but because the ability to enjoy it changes. And here's the challenge: Most people are wired to save and be cautious… so they underspend in the years that matter most.  The takeaway: Retirement planning isn't just about how much you save… …it's about when you spend it. To create a retirement plan and spending plan that supports the life you actually want to live, please give Peter a call at 919-300-5886 or visit www.

Was soll dieser Schwachsinn? Bitte: Sei nett. Wer sagt denn so etwas? Was hast du für Mitarbeiter? Begeistere deine Kunden. Tschüss, bye-bye, dein Ernst. #Kundenservice #Service #Servicequalität #Mitarbeiter #AMitarbeiter #Kundenzufriedenheit #Kundenbegeisterung #Unternehmertum #Führung #Dienstleistung #Gastronomie #Respekt #Höflichkeit #Erfolg #Podcast #Ergebnisorientiert #ErnstCrameri Hier findest du eine Übersicht aller aktuellen Seminare  https://crameri.de/Seminare Bild: 8. With many schools using "No-Go lists" linked to attendance and behavior to decide who gets a ticket, we ask: is this a fair accountability tool, or does it unfairly penalize our most vulnerable students? Join the conversation, share your staffroom experiences, and call in to tell us where you stand! On the panel: Lucy Trimnell, JP, Rae Whitehouse and Carl Smith.

Die Hormone… to be continued. Du möchtest mehr über unsere Werbepartner erfahren? Cat & Cloud Podcast  Cat & Cloud Coffee www.catandcloud.com/ On-Stage, Off-Stage: Why Owners Stand in Line (And Other Hospitality Go's & No-Go's) – Ep #439 Summary In this episode, Jared, Chris, and Casey riff on authenticity and then dig into hospitality as “on-stage vs off-stage” work—treating a café like a live performance where everything guests see, hear, and feel (cleanliness, order, smell, noise, staff energy) shapes the experience before they even taste the coffee. They unpack “clubhousing” as a major no-go—when staff get lost in their own conversations or tasks and fail to include guests—and argue that the goal isn't robotic service but a shared framework that helps people be more present and human. A key leadership practice is cafe/restaurant owners standing in line and experiencing the business like a guest to spot friction and keep perspective. Chris closes with his biggest hospitality deal-breakers: letting the register conversation drag while a line builds, ignoring “hovering” guests who need help, and creating perceived unavailability—because being seen and acknowledged is often the difference between a tense room and a great one.
