Episode SummaryOriginally planned for a direct-to-video release, Toy Story 2 (1999) was deemed too good for the small screen and instead enjoyed a theatrical release that was met with rave reviews. The addition of a plucky heroine with a tragic backstory mitigates some of the toxic masculinity from the first installment, but ableism and fatphobia manage to sneak in. Franziska Gonder is a Somatic Leadership Coach and Founder of Leadership That Heals The World and Bravespace. She has experience advising startups, VC investors, and Fortune 500 companies on operations, culture, HR, and leadership. For 15 years, Franziska has combined entrepreneurial problem-solving, collaborative technology, and human-centered design to help individuals and teams discover and achieve their potential. Her work has been featured in Forbes, TheNextWeb, Philanthropy, and HuffPost. After losing her father in 2013, Franziska began leading with belonging, safety, and dignity — and now she helps others do the same. In this episode… Traditional Western cultures glamorize the hustling lifestyle, where entrepreneurs and leaders work continuously while disregarding their emotions. But childhood and other traumas shape leadership styles greatly. Today's guest empowers entrepreneurs to create a healthy balance between work and life while cultivating impactful leadership. Franziska Gonder advocates for a sense of belonging, safety, and dignity. These feelings can become disrupted due to physical, emotional, or mental stressors, consequently putting the nervous system into overdrive and compromising your leadership. Through a combination of neuro-linguistic programming, self-inquiry, and somatic coaching, Franziska helps leaders reflect on their traumas and take accountability for their actions. When you give yourself grace, you can support others in their journeys. In this episode of the Lead Like a Woman Show, Andrea Heuston chats with Franziska Gonder, Somatic Leadership Coach and Founder of Leadership That Heals The World and Bravespace, about leading with compassion and accountability. Franziska also discusses why she transitioned into somatic leadership, how to utilize neuro-linguistic programming, and the negative influence of “up and to the right” mindsets.
Welcome to another episode of Action & Ambition with your host, Andrew Medal. Today’s guest is Dmitry Dragilev, CEO and founder of JustReachOut.io, a SaaS tool that helps you pitch journalists to be featured in the press without an expensive PR firm. He started his career working for a startup that Google purchased after he scaled from 0 to 40M pageviews per month. He has written more than 1500 articles spanning the last 10 years for Forbes, Wired, Business Insider, Entrepreneur, Mashable, TechCrunch, TheNextWeb among many other publications. But, this episode is more about failure, lifestyle, and how he's done all of this without a modern smartphone. You’re going to love this episode. Let’s get to it!
Dmitry Dragilev is the founder of JustReachOut.io - a SaaS which has helped 5000+ startups and businesses pitch journalists and get featured in press all on their own. In his not so distant past he did PR and got acquired by Google all while publishing 1,500+ articles. Dmitry is a contributor at Entrepreneur, Forbes, TheNextWeb, SmallBizTrends and Business.com as well as Moz Blog, Ahrefs Blog and many others. Dmitry loves working with customers looking to independently control their PR and is so proud of the entrepreneurs he’s taught to speak to journalists and focus on relationship building. When he’s not at his standing desk working beside his business partner and wife Corey, Dmitry can be found picking heavy things up and putting them down again at Crossfit or running alongside his toddlers scooting through the park. “The key is not to create unique content for all of these different places. The key is to create one really good, deep piece of content that’s going to work for your brand.” Brad Smith is the founder and CEO of Codeless, a content production company for the best SaaS sites on the planet. Their articles have been featured in The New York Times, Business Insider, TheNextWeb, and more. At Codeless, content is not simply created, it is produced, and that makes all the difference. We discussed what this means on this week's show. About Brad Smith Brad Smith is the founder and CEO of Codeless, a content production company who’s content has been highlighted by The New York Times, Business Insider, The Next Web, and thousands more. He is also the co- founder of uSERP, a digital PR company that helps connect its clients with leading SaaS, eCommerce, SEO, tech, business, and marketing sites to boost brand authority. Brad has been an in-the-trenches marketer for over a decade, rolling his sleeves up and doing all the dirty work from copywriting to SEO to marketing automation to site redesigns and more. All while working in-house, freelancing, consulting, and providing agency services to almost every industry that crosses your mind. Companies don’t need more content today. They need better content that actually performs. His companies fix that by producing & ranking SERP-topping content in the most competitive spaces -- tech, cybersecurity, finance, etc. — on the Internet. Episode Highlights Content curation vs. content production. “There’s a subtle difference that needs to be called out.” Simply put, there’s too much content today. It’s not just about creating the most content, it’s about producing the very best content. What form of content are Brad and the team at Codeless producing the most of these days? “It’s a lot of the meat and potatoes—articles—as a lot is driven by SEO.” However, he went on to note how several are missing key SEO steps in their video and podcast production, such as transcripts. When to outsource your content production. Brad began by impressing that this is not a binary choice—either outsourcing content or not. Rather, it depends on the project. Some pieces may be better handled internally. How to outsource content production. “The problem in starting is that many don’t have it written down,” says Brad. What’s needed for a good content handoff? Brand guidelines usually have info on the logo and font type but there are no guidelines for writing.” Brad encouraged brands to consider things like how formal or informal the writing should be, the use of contractions, and references to humor and pop culture. Including examples is also helpful. He also shared a simple tip: Voice Memos. Using this app on your phone to talk as the brand can be useful background info for your outsourced team. What brand has made Brad smile recently? Brad shared the story of Stone Brewing out of San Diego, known for their signature beer Arrogant Bastard (a favorite of mine when I’m in that neck of the woods). Brad talked about how the brand is bold in both taste and vernacular. To learn more, go to GetCodeless.com and connect with Brad on LinkedIn. Just a few short months ago, social networks were coming under intense fire for, among other things, data privacy, toxicity and their negative impact on mental health. The reputations of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter were at an all-time low. But recently, things have changed. Since the middle of March user behaviour has become more positive, and the likes of Facebook and Twitter have become more supportive places to hang out and connect with friends. So could COVID-19 actually provide somewhat of a reboot for social media? A lot could depend on how the social networks are seen to be helping the world over the next few months. It's a golden opportunity to rebuild those ailing reputations. This episode of the Digital Download podcast looks at the evolution of social media both during and after the COVID-19 crisis. It investigates how the networks are handling misinformation, addresses the thorny issue of data privacy, looks at the current wave of innovation, and discusses where social media technology may go in the next couple of years and what brands should look out for in 2021. My special guest on this show is Matt Navarra, well-known social media industry commentator and strategist. Matt was previously Director of Social at TheNextWeb after managing the government's social media channels.

MongoDB Issues New Server Side Public License for MongoDB Community Server (https://www.mongodb.com/press/mongodb-issues-new-server-side-public-license-for-mongodb-community-server) MongoDB not in RHEL 8.0 (https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8-beta/html/8.0_beta_release_notes/new-features#web_servers_databases_dynamic_languages_2) MongoDB "open-source" Server Side Public License rejected (https://www.zdnet.com/article/mongodb-open-source-server-side-public-license-rejected/) AWS vs. open source: DocumentDB is the latest battlefront (https://www.infoworld.com/article/3331903/database/aws-vs-open-source-documentdb-is-the-latest-battlefront.html) AWS gives open source the middle finger (https://techcrunch.com/2019/01/09/aws-gives-open-source-the-middle-finger/) AWS, MongoDB, and the Economic Realities of Open Source (https://stratechery.com/2019/aws-mongodb-and-the-economic-realities-of-open-source/) (Ben Thompson) Fine, fine…but music companies didn’t “sell” CDs, they sold music. Authors don’t “sell” printed books, they sell stories. They sell IP. The medium isn’t the product. “This trade-off is inescapable, and it is fair to wonder if the golden age of VC-funded open source companies will start to fade (although not open source generally). The monetization model depends on the friction of on-premise software; once cloud computing is dominant, the economic model is much more challenging.” There’s some ponderous gyrating between public cloud being good at managed hosting/services (they run the stuff well) vs. software (their features are unique/good). Ben’s follow-up (https://stratechery.com/2019/mongodb-follow-up-aws-incentives-batteries-the-iphones-missing-miss/#memberful_done) (subscription required): “ Atlas was only 8% of total revenue last year, which grew 57% year-over-year; that means that Atlas itself grew 330% year-over-year, from $3.3 million to $14.3 million. Of course cost of revenue grew 68% as well, thanks to a $4.1 million increase in hosting costs (AWS wins either way), but particularly given the addition of a free Atlas offering, those costs aren’t out of line.” So, with this “SSPL” thing, AWS would have to open source all of itself, or just the DocumentDB part? Here (https://www.zdnet.com/article/mongodb-open-source-server-side-public-license-rejected/): “The specific objection is that SSPL requires, if you offer services licensed under it, that you must open-source all programs that you use to make the software available as a service. From Mongo’s press release on SSPL, Oct. 2018 (https://www.mongodb.com/press/mongodb-issues-new-server-side-public-license-for-mongodb-community-server): “The only substantive change is an explicit condition that any organization attempting to exploit MongoDB as a service must open source the software that it uses to offer such service.” What would happen if AWS was all open source? Given that few companies could use OpenStack or make their own clouds (even with cloud.com and such), just having the code matters little to a successful cloud business, right? Or, maybe it doesn’t mean all of AWS, just the DocumentDB part. Which is, really, the in the spirit of the GPL. The competitive tactic of forcing competitors to open source their stuff is weird.

Daar gaan we, veel plezier! ===== We praten onder andere over: - Hoe is TNW ontstaan? - Voor wie is TNW? - Waarin onderscheiden jullie je van andere conferenties? - Wat kan men verwachten? Sprekers? - Welke spreker(s) verheug jij je op? - Jullie starten met TNW Academy? What’s that about? Gamification expert Gabe Zichermann was in the Netherlands to give a talk at TheNextWeb conference in April. We managed to tackle him for an interview, and he put the Gamification hype into perspective for us with some compelling examples and a lot of theoretical background.
