Hi everybody, my truly special Talk Music guest for this episode is ESTONIAN PIANIST KRISTJAN RANDALU, who exists among the most sought-after piano players of his generation, carrying the torch in both the improvised world of jazz and the traditional realm of classical music. Between creating his own original blend of contemporary jazz as a leader and collaborating with several generations of respected musicians, Randalu has brought his music to some of the world's most renowned jazz festivals and concert halls. The prestigious magazine Jazz Times describes Kristjan's playing as an “open invitation to an unnameable exotic land." At the same time, he is viewed as an esteemed interpreter of a broad spectrum of contemporary and classical music, performing alongside internationally acclaimed orchestras and conductors. We chat about how Kristjan was born in Estonia's capital Tallinn and how his family escaped Communist rule by relocating to Germany where he graduated from the Stuttgart Music University. Kristjan then went on to study at The Royal Academy of Music in London, followed by the Manhattan School of Music where he attained an additional master´s degree. We also delve into some of his most recent recordings including Sisu (awarded Jazz Album of the Year at the 2023 Estonian Music Awards) and Schumann's Dichterliebe (Berlin Classics, 2024) whereby Randalu has not only deepened his musical ties to the classical world, but presented a truly original recasting of one of the Romantic repertoire's cornerstones. We discuss his recordings with saxophonist Dave Liebman (Mussorgsky Pictures Revisited), Bodek Janke (Double Standard) and his album “Absence,” produced by Legendary owner of the ECM label, Manfred Eicher. This was not a coincidence. Putin wanted these to events to occur one right after another. It was important for him to show the world that he's not an outcast, that being a criminal and still being a reliable partner for many countries is entirely possible.  One could say that Putin bonded Modi with blood. He orchestrated everything so that these two news stories would follow each other: first, a Russian missile kills Ukrainian children, and then the one who gave order to launch the missile bestows an order on the Prime minister of the country, that calls itself the world's largest democracy. The Indian Prime Minister then muttered something about the necessity of peace, about war not being the answer. But Modi did not discard the foolish dog-collar like order, nor did he admit that his visit to Moscow was a mistake. Did he not know he was visiting a murderer? A person who has unleashed the bloodiest war in Europe in the last 80 years? That Putin had already killed children in Mariupol, Bucha, and many other cities. He knew everything, saw everything, and accepted everything. He only disliked that Putin decided to strike the Children's Hospital on the very day the Indian delegation arrived. If it happened a day earlier or later, Modi would have completely ignored the death of Ukrainian children.  Perhaps you have not noticed yet, but we are witnessing the normalization of evil. For decades, tyrants of all kinds have hidden way crimes trying to appear courteous and honest. Since Pol Pot, who sent Khmer youth to kill our parents with Host, no one has openly boasted about mass murders and destruction of entire cities. Putin has become the first after Paul Pot, and many are fine with this. It's not just about Modi. A couple of weeks before him, a whole delegation of world musicians who can without ation be called jazz greats visited Moscow. Richard Bona, Allan Harris, Avishai Cohen, Dhafer Youssef and others.  They played at a state organized jazz festival, the faces of this festival were are propagandists who daily talk about how main task of Russians is to kill Ukrainians. Fees came from the same state budget that pays for the production of bombs and missiles to destroy Ukrainian schools and hospitals. And all these stars knew this very well. But they went anyway because evil has been normalized. Because the democratic world has not fully defined its attitude towards Russia. First, greedy fools like Youssef and Cohen go to bow to Putin, then ultra right politicians like Modi and then he will start being accepted in your formerly democratic countries. Or will he not? It depends only on you, on your attitude towards evil and your resistance to its normalization. Thus the music of Turkey, Israel and Palestine has similarities with the Arabic and Berber music of North Africa, and the Persian traditions of Iran. Today, progressive artists working within these traditions have created a Virtual Middle East, a cultural blend that effectively ignores ethnic, religious and political differences, and brings us an image of what a peaceful future in the region might sound like. El vocalista tunecino y laudista crea sus composiciones en los modos y ritmos de Oriente Medio. Mit "Diwan of Beauty and Odd" (OKeh / Sony / 2017) veröffentlicht Dhafer Youssef sein siebtes eigenes Album. Aufgenommen wurde es in New York, „damit sie diese spezielle Färbung der New Yorker Vibes erhält“, wie Dhafer Youssef erklärt. Toleranz und Lebensfreude, verpackt in schräge Rhythmen und Takte, bestimmt das Album und er besingt auch das Fliegen. Nicht ohne Zufall, denn der Ud-Spieler vergleicht sich gerne mit einem Zugvogel, der ständig zwischen Europa und Afrika hin und her pendelt. Manfred Horak traf den sympathischen Musiker nach längerer Zeit wieder einmal im Café Prückl zu einem anregenden Gespräch.

El cantante, compositor e intérprete de laúd Dhafer Youssef actuará en el Festival de Jazz de Granada (viernes 11 de noviembre de 2016), el Festival de Jazz de Madrid (sábado 12), y el Festival de Jazz de Barcelona (miércoles 16) presentando su nueva grabación Diwan Of Beauty And Odd. Aleksandar Jugovic, better known as Alexander de Funk – ADF is a real ambassador of electronic sound and music in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is active as a DJ since 2007. In his relative short DJ career he played in the most Bosnia and Herzegovina cities and towns, bigger and smaller clubs, several festivals, worked with many world know brands and organizations. He played his sets at well known places such as: Hacienda, Rooms, Sloga, Pink P, Golden, Papaya, Santos, Jazz Club, La Playa, Hol, Exit, Vertigo, Casino and many more. He also played at many recognized festivals: Hilton, Adrenalin 2012, 2013, ST, EDM Maraton and others. Alexander de Funk is the resident DJ for Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Wonderland Serbia Festival 2014 and he is playing a tour for them, and the Snow Boom Festival Jahorina 2015. He gets his affirmation on the Adrenalin DJ Fest – contest where he makes the third position among 20 contestants from all over the country, sings a half professional contract with GuideLine agency and from then he steps in the world of high class entertainers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He worked abroad also, including Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Montenegro. He is well known for his energetic House, Tech House and Progressive sets. Alexander worked with some global recognized artists such as: Arisen Flame, Joey Suki, Deep Josh, Alexander Jordan, Rocca, Chris Mosgad, Moevv, Manga, Trance Port, Marko Gartner, Igor Garnier, Worda etc. Nowdays, he is fully into Djing, producing and promoting house music at a regional level. Lotus Fest (poimenovan po Lotusu Dickeyju) se je pravkar končal. Letos prvič tudi Slovenska glasba na Lotusu: skupina Brina je od 19. do 29. septembra gostovala v Severni Ameriki - tu je tudi video posnetek iz koncerta v Chicagu.Nastopali so tudi Dhafer Youssef,Balkan Beat Box,Toubab Krewe,17 Hippies,MC Rai,Chic Gamine in še mnogi, tudi Jeff Daniels v vlogi glasbenika.Žur po festivalu pa na terasi/strehi hiše visokega člana lokalne uprave...
