Fr. Mike points out the results of what happened to the kings who built idols, and what happened to the kings who tore them down. He encourages us to tear down the idols we've built up in our own lives by trusting God with our first fruits. Today's readings are 1 Kings 14, 2 Chronicles 14-15, and Song of Solomon 3. How does the gospel affect your work? We're in a series where we're asking, “What happens when you take the gospel, the basic message of Jesus Christ, out of the church and into the world?” One of the things that happens is it affects the way in which you do your work. And there's no way to see the Christian understanding of work without going to Genesis 1, 2, and 3. I'd like to show you three things Genesis tells us about your work: 1) it gives you a vision for work, 2) it gives you guardrails for your work, and 3) it gives you a power to do your work. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 10, 2010. Series: The Gospel and the World. Scripture: Genesis 1:26-28; 2:2-17. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Did you know there is more than one liturgical rite in the Catholic Church? Fr. Mike reviews the different liturgical Traditions that are part of the Catholic Church. All of the different rites are rooted in the same mission of Christ, reminding us that the diversity of liturgical Traditions does not take away from the unity of the Faith. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 1200-1203. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. We often ask God to give us strength, but if we're in Christ, we already have power. In this message, Dr. Tony Evans explains how believers are strengthened through the Spirit to live out their calling with confidence.

And he was transfigured before them, [3] and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. [4] And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. [5] And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” [6] For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. [7] And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” [8] And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. [9] And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. [10] So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. Loneliness is real and loneliness is really difficult. How do I handle feeling alone and what does my loneliness mean? Fr. Mike speaks into the deep and painful experience of loneliness, especially in the Christian life. He reminds us that loneliness is not a sign of failure or weakness, but a reflection of our God-given longing for love and communion. While God is always near, Fr. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar discuss the controversial topic of capital punishment, highlighting its complexity and the wide spectrum of beliefs among Christians. While some believers stand firmly for the death penalty, others oppose it with equal conviction. Christians are called to seek biblical truth with humility, not pride, even in secondary issues where disagreement is allowed. Jesus often responded to difficult questions with another question, inviting deeper thought rather than debate. Ray supports the death penalty in principle but recognizes the flaws in the justice system, pointing out how false witnesses in Scripture and in history have led to unjust executions. The guys agree that capital punishment must be handled with care, remembering that each life involved—perpetrator or victim—bears the image of God.Genesis 9:6 and Romans 13:1-4 are cited as the strongest scriptural support for the death penalty, with God affirming the sanctity of life by requiring justice for the shedding of innocent blood. E.Z. emphasizes that those in authority are placed by God, whether as a blessing or judgment, and voters must be mindful of this truth. Still, the group stresses that decisions involving life and death should never be made flippantly. Oscar approaches the issue with humility, offering three lenses of hesitation: spiritual, philosophical, and practical. He references Augustine's concern that executing someone may mar the image of God, though Augustine wasn't completely opposed to it. Yet others in the group argue that removing someone who claims lives is actually honoring life and protecting society. The guys discuss the tension between grace and justice. Some argue capital punishment is mercy to the victims and society, preventing re-offense. Others say prolonging life on death row offers more time for repentance. This tension surfaces often: should mercy delay justice, or should justice be swift for the sake of the victims? There's also the question of honoring the victim's dignity and preventing additional harm to their families.Throughout, the group warns against personal retribution, reminding listeners that Scripture differentiates between personal responsibility and the role of government. They caution against cherry-picking verses and advocate for reading Scripture in context, letting Scripture interpret Scripture. True wisdom is found in seeking the Lord, studying His Word, and engaging in fellowship. While opinions may vary, the guys agree on one thing: may the Lord help us think deeply and biblically, with both compassion and conviction.Send us a textThanks for listening! In our pursuit of greatness in God's eyes, we tend to imagine following Jesus into ever-increasing, upward levels of maturity. In this program, Chip poses the fascinating premise that we actually follow Jesus, descending into greatness. How do we measure greatness?Power = Who and what we controlPossessions = What and how much we ownPosition = Our rank in the pecking orderPrestige = Who and how many “look up” to usProductivity = What and how much we accomplishHow do we obtain greatness? Two pathways to greatness: Ascending and descendingTrue greatness defined = Philippians 2:3-4How do you experience true greatness? One word = Humility (Humility is the channel through which the supernatural power of God's love flows to heal our deepest hurts and restore our most important relationships.)How to be authentically humble:Humility flows from a specific “mindset”. -Philippians 2:5We achieve true greatness when we embrace Christ's “mindset” toward power and possessions. -Philippians 2:6We become truly great when we embrace Christ's “mindset” toward position and prestige. -Philippians 2:7We become truly great when we embrace Christ's “mindset” toward productivity. -Philippians 2:8We experience the reward of true greatness when we follow Christ's example of servanthood. -Philippians 2:9-11Broadcast ResourceDownload Free MP3Message NotesAdditional Resource Mentions"I Choose Joy" Book"I Choose Joy" Home Church StudyMid Year MatchMid Year MatchConnect888-333-6003WebsiteChip Ingram AppInstagramFacebookTwitterPartner With UsDonate Online888-333-6003
Daily Meditation Forgiveness can be one of the hardest steps to take, especially when it involves the deep wounds left by a father’s shortcomings. In this heartfelt devotional, Lynette Kittle explores how unforgiveness can become a barrier, not just in our relationships with our fathers, but in our walk with God. Rooted in Ephesians 6:4 and the truth of God’s character, this reflection invites us to consider the healing that comes from releasing bitterness and embracing the love of our Heavenly Father. In forgiving our fathers, we don’t excuse their failures—we open our hands to receive the perfect love and guidance of our true Father in Heaven.

It's our Father's Day episode!! Allen is a little rattled from being forced out of his podcast office and his itchy head, but it leads to a story that he wants to add to the list of Kellie's Ailments. She doesn't think it qualifies. Allen is highly disturbed by the use of AI to recreate biblical figures — especially our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With Emma Kelly heading off to college, Kellie and Allen contemplate what life will be like as they get closer to their empty nest phase of life. While dreaming of future travels, it lead to a trip down memory lane and an unfortunate event — or two — that happened that one time they went to wine country. It's official! Allen and Bad Influence Jeff are going to Mexico and you're invited! This is NOT an official podcast family vacation and there are NO special podcast family packages. But! If you'd like to go hang out, Allen will give you all the details, which you can also find on the podcast's Instagram page @asandwichandsomelovin. Thank you to our podcast sponsors! It's safe to say that our society deals with more distractions than any previous society in history. Most of us feel like we are constantly pulled in different directions. Today, Pastor J.D. talks about being a distracted people who need focus—mostly away from our phones. He's going to help us distinguish between good and bad distractions by looking to how Jesus seemed to be entirely in-distractible on the one hand but imminently interruptible on the other!
