As we continue along the path of our forefathers in faith, Fr. Mike reminds us that we live in the same era as the Apostles and have the same Holy Spirit. Just like St. Paul stood out by imitating Jesus and sharing the Gospel, we are called to do the same. Fr. Mike also discusses our duality as both body and soul as it relates to Christ's resurrection. Today's readings are Acts 17, 1 Corinthians 15, and Proverbs 28:16-18. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. From the moment Kimberly's mother, the head of her coven, used her sister in rituals and marked Kimberly for spiritual destruction, her life became a battleground of witchcraft, demonic assignments, and generational curses designed to stop her from ever discovering her identity in Christ. Decades later, witches still target her family, from spell-casters burning voodoo dolls in their own hands to a coven sending entities to infiltrate her home, even possessing a cat on her doorstep. But every attack collapses the same way: Kimberly fights back with authority, binding witchcraft, exposing demons, and watching their curses detonate right in front of them. When the coven tried to claim her prophetic son, she prayed a single prayer that sent him running out of their house in terror, eyes opened to the demonic spirits he'd been deceived by. Despite witches stalking her family, manipulating relationships, and attempting to kill her husband, Kimberly walks in bold victory, proving that the witchcraft that tried to destroy her… failed. Long before Christmas lists, shopping carts, and wrapping paper, there were gifts given for one reason alone: worship. Sophia Bricker opens this devotional with the story of Saint Nicholas—a man whose quiet, selfless generosity became the seed of a much later legend. His life reflects the heart of someone whose giving flowed out of devotion to Christ, not cultural expectation. But even before Nicholas, Scripture gives us another unforgettable picture of joyful generosity: the wise men. The Magi traveled far, guided by a star and propelled by hope. When they finally reached the child Jesus, they didn’t debate whether the gifts were too costly or wonder if He “needed” them. They simply bowed in awe and opened their treasures. Their gifts were symbolic—and sincere: Gold for His kingship. Frankincense for His priesthood. Myrrh for His sacrificial death. But more than symbolism, their offering revealed their hearts. They gave because they loved. They gave because they believed. They gave because worship compelled them. Jesus later taught, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).Our spending, our giving, our serving—they all reveal what we value most. For the follower of Christ, generosity is not an obligation. It is an overflow. Like Saint Nicholas, we feel convicted when our resources center on ourselves. Like the wise men, we long to lay what we have at Jesus’ feet. Like those early givers, our generosity flows from beholding the Savior for who He truly is. And the way generosity looks will be unique for each of us. Not everyone gives gold or frankincense. Not everyone tosses gifts through windows. But every believer has something to offer—time, talent, resources, compassion, presence, or encouragement. Generosity begins with worship.Worship leads to open hands.Open hands lead to lives that honor Christ. Bible Reading:“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” – Matthew 2:10–11 (NIV) Takeaway Truths The wise men’s gifts were rooted in joyful worship, not duty. Generosity reveals what we treasure most. Followers of Christ give from abundance, not scarcity. True generosity begins with beholding Jesus. Let’s Pray Great Savior, I stand in awe of Your majesty and grace. How incredible it is that You, the King of all creation, entered this world as a humble child and chose to identify Yourself with us. The wise men saw what so many missed—Your worth, Your glory, and Your identity as the promised Messiah. They bowed in worship and gave freely, not from pressure, but from overflowing joy. Lord, develop in me this same heart of generosity. Help me to use my time, my resources, and my gifts to honor You. Guide my giving so that it reflects trust, gratitude, and devotion. Everything I have is from You. Make me courageous and joyful in sharing my life with others, so that my generosity points back to You, the Giver of salvation and life. Amen. This week, we’ll hear from Melissa Ferguson, a mother of five whose love for stories and the countryside has inspired her creative life. From her family’s Tennessee farmhouse by the mountains, she writes heartwarming romantic comedies for television and children’s books. Melissa reflects on the lessons she’s learned from farm life, family rhythms, and faith—and why at the end of the day, it all comes down to keeping what’s most important at the top of the to-do list. Later in the episode, we’ll hear from worship artist Natalie Runion. Natalie grew up as a pastor’s kid watching her parents serve their church, but found herself needing to forgive certain toxic elements that had shaped her upbringing. Today, through her ministry Raised to Stay and her writing, Natalie gives us a glimpse into how she’s helping others reconcile their love for Jesus with the realities of a sometimes imperfect church culture. It’s been an adventure along the way, and I think it’s been really healthy for our children and for ourselves.” - Melissa Ferguson “It’s important to step back, especially when something feels off. I broke it down by the hours that each activity in that priority order would take, and I realized this is why I’m stressed. I’m stressed because I’ve swapped the extras, the least important priorities in my life, with the things that are.” - Melissa Ferguson “I have allowed myself to be too busy doing other things and that was a choice not to spend time in the Word or pray because I thought, Oh, well, it doesn’t matter that much. I’m too busy. I’d rather go do this. And I’ve experienced the consequences of what became a growing sense of restlessness or a lack of peace.” - Melissa Ferguson “The older I get, the more aware I am that we live in a very broken and hurting world. So I absolutely need to spiritually set aside time in my day. Otherwise, I can’t fight those feelings that come at me that try to cause chaos and unrest.” - Melissa Ferguson “I think how good God is that even when our plans change because of people, that His plan for us can’t be changed.” - Natalie Runion “It shouldn’t come as a surprise when we walk into situations where we think that we’re going to just tell the gospel without getting wounded, because throughout Scripture, we’re being warned this is going to happen. For me, it has been really separating imperfect people from a perfect gospel, imperfect people from my perfect Jesus, saying the standard has been set, but we won’t reach that standard until we get to heaven, and we’re all made perfect in the sight of the Lord.” - Natalie Runion “God has promised me that He will never leave me and He will never forsake me. And though people are going to fail me, institutions and organizations are going to fail me, He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.” - Natalie Runion “This is why I love our Father so much—He knows what we need in the season that we need it.” - Natalie Runion “I do believe that as we as women begin to like ourselves and then we start to love ourselves, that then we will begin to like and love other women and become that force that we are reckoned to be in the church, when we unify as God’s daughters and stop competing and comparing and start collaborating.” - Natalie Runion “I wanted women to see that not only are they worthy of friendship, every woman is worthy of being loved, wanted, invited, seen. They’re worthy of giving their opinions. They’re worthy of collaboration. I also wanted them to reconnect to their friendship with God, to see from the garden that God made us unique as women.” - Natalie Runion ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Thank you for taking a few minutes to listen. If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)YouTube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comRevelation 1Revelation consists of highly symbolic writings by the apostle John, with all revelation coming from Jesus Christ, given to show His servants what must soon happen. John receives the message while exiled on the island of Patmos and is told to write down what he sees. He describes Jesus in majestic and symbolic terms: dressed in a long robe, with white hair, eyes like fire, and a voice like rushing waters. Jesus holds seven stars and walks among seven golden lampstands, which represent the seven angels and the seven churches of Asia. Jesus identifies Himself as the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, who was dead but now lives forever. This imagery sets the tone for the rest of the book, emphasizing Christ's glory, authority, and victory. Jesus Christ, the faithful witness and the firstborn from the dead, holds all authority and power. When we face fear, suffering, or uncertainty, we can find comfort in knowing that the risen Christ stands among His people and speaks with strength and purpose. We are not alone in our trials. Jesus is the First and the Last, meaning He is present at the beginning and end of every situation we encounter. His presence among the lampstands shows that He walks with His church and cares deeply for us. Christ's power to protect and destroy is infinite, and we honor Him with great reverence and awe. We are called to listen to His voice, trust in His power, and remain faithful. Glorious Father, You have revealed to us the risen Christ in His glory, shining like the sun and speaking with a voice like rushing waters. We worship You for His power, His victory over death, and His presence among the churches. Help us to see Jesus as John saw Him: full of holiness, strength, and eternal life. When we are weak or afraid, remind us that He holds the keys to death and the grave. Let His words give us courage, and His presence bring us peace. Teach us to listen, trust, and follow Him faithfully, respecting His absolute authority. Thought Questions: Revelation contains events “which must soon take place” as “the time is near.” Why is that important to understand as you study it? Jesus has saved us by His blood and made us a kingdom of priests to God. How do those truths shape the entire purpose of your life? The description of Jesus in this chapter is incredible. As you read it, how does it make you feel about “the living One” whom you serve?

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

In the late nineteenth century, few people had access to the great sequoia groves in the US, and many didn’t believe the reports of the massive trees. In 1892, however, four lumberjacks ventured into the Big Stump Forest in California and spent thirteen days felling the grand tree named Mark Twain. Twain was 1,341 years old, three hundred feet tall, and fifty feet in circumference. One observer described Twain as a tree “of magnificent proportions, one of the most perfect trees in the grove.” They shipped part of this remarkable beauty, now destroyed, to the American Museum of Natural History where everyone could see a sequoia. The reality, though, is that we can’t prove every truth with our eyes alone. Hebrews describes faith as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith isn’t irrational or a fit of fancy, because the whole story is grounded in a person—Jesus—who has entered human history. Faith includes human senses and reason, but it’s not limited to them. Faith requires more. “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command,” Hebrews says, “so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible” (v. 3). It’s often difficult to trust what we can’t touch or see or completely comprehend. But our faith in Christ, made possible by the Spirit, helps us to believe more than we can see.

Your worship team isn't just playing music. You're teaching theology and shaping hearts. So why are we settling for cover versions of songs when the church should be leading the world in creativity?  For centuries, the church birthed the world's greatest art: Bach's masterpieces, Handel's Messiah, hymns that shaped nations. But somewhere along the way, we stopped creating and started copying. Steele Croswhite, who toured with Foo Fighters and Maroon 5 before Jesus transformed his life, believes it's time to reclaim our creative calling.  After 20 years of ministry, Steele has built something revolutionary: a church where worship teams don't just play songs, they craft theological experiences that connect hearts to truth.   In this episode, discover:  Why worship leaders are actually theology teachers (and how your arrangements matter)  How the church went from creative pioneer to cultural follower and how to reverse it  The "Love God, Bless Saints, Win Lost" framework that transforms both music and hearts  The practical steps to help your musicians find their God-given voice  Listen now to hear what happens when creativity meets theology.   "The best bands in the world should come from the local church, because we're not just making music. We're making disciples." - Steele Croswhite  Worship Online is your new secret weapon for preparing each week. Friday of the First Week of Advent - Healing Blindness

    Catholic Daily Reflections

Read OnlineAs Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!” Matthew 9:27Picture these two men for a moment. Just before this passage, Jesus had cured a leper, healed a Roman centurion's servant, restored Peter's mother-in-law to health, made a paralytic walk, and stopped a woman's years-long hemorrhages. He had cast out demons, freeing people from their oppression, and even raised a twelve-year-old girl from the dead. This context is crucial as we imagine these two blind men crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!”Word was spreading rapidly about Jesus and His miracles. In that time and culture, blindness often led to a life of begging unless family could provide. These men suffered greatly, from both their physical blindness and from the marginalization that accompanied it. Then they began to hear stories—one after another—about this new rabbi, a prophet from David's line, possibly the Messiah everyone awaited. They heard of His miracles and immediately hoped He could heal them too. So when Jesus was passing by, they didn't hesitate.Although physical healings were not Jesus' primary mission, these acts were powerful expressions of His compassion and divine authority. By healing, He brought peace and joy to troubled hearts, but more importantly, He demonstrated that His words carried divine authority. The Gospel of Matthew is arranged so that Jesus' Sermon on the Mount—a summary of His teachings—comes first. Then follows a series of miracles. While these miracles were acts of love for those He cured, they also serve to convince us today to listen to and obey His word.We are called to emulate the faith of these two blind men. We must believe that Jesus is the answer to all our needs, the only one who can heal our souls. We can see their physical blindness as a metaphor for our own spiritual blindness. Just as they cried out for physical healing, we must cry out for spiritual healing.Reflect today on the disposition of these two blind men. Though we know little about them, we do know they cried out to Jesus for mercy and healing. Their prayer must become our prayer; their hope, our hope; their passionate cry, our plea for mercy. The healing they sought is mirrored in the healing we seek today, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is in this sacrament that we find Jesus passing by, where we cry out for mercy and where we are spiritually healed. Let us long for healing from our spiritual blindness and cry out to Jesus with persistence, following Him relentlessly in prayer. He will hear and answer us. My healing Lord, though Your many miracles show Your divine power over nature, demons, and every illness—even death—the greatest healing You offer is the healing of my soul from sin. Please have pity on me, Lord. Heal the spiritual blindness I have so that I may come to know You, follow You, and live according to Your will. This week's meditation explores the Rosary as the quiet heartbeat of a Christian's day, the steady rhythm that keeps us close to Christ the way jazz uses syncopation to hold a song together. The Eucharist anchors a life of prayer, but the Rosary gives it pulse. Far from mindless repetition, it becomes a slow, loving walk through the mysteries of Jesus with Mary as our guide. Its simplicity, even its boredom, creates the space where grace can move. It steadies the mind, sanctifies ordinary moments, and helps us see God's patterns in our own lives. Whether prayed in a chapel, on a sidewalk, or during a late evening walk, the Rosary trains the heart to persevere and rest in God. In this episode, we talk about how to begin, how to pray it faithfully in the middle of the world, and how its gentle rhythm becomes the spiritual heartbeat that carries you through the day.

Segment 1 • Philip admits the Christian God makes the most sense but refuses to submit because he doesn't want his lifestyle to change. • He confesses he knows God's rules, knows they're real, and still chooses to live how he wants and “take his chances with death.” • Todd uses God's law (lying, lust, blasphemy) to show Philip he's not “basically good,” but a willful rebel against a God he knows exists. Segment 2 • Philip clearly says he understands hell, believes he'd go there, and is still content to keep enjoying sin “for a season.” • He admits he's weighing Jesus versus his current pleasures and, for now, deliberately chooses sin, thinking he can always reconsider later. • Todd warns that greater knowledge brings greater judgment, prays that Philip's conscience will torment him in his sin, and pleads with him to see Jesus as better than “fun” and temporary pleasure. Segment 3 • Scott, sporting royal blue hair and loving the attention, says he'll only conform to laws he personally deems just—rejecting God's laws as unfair. • He argues that if God created people with their flaws, God is responsible for their sins and has no right to punish them. • Scott calls the God of the Bible evil, citing genocides and hell as proof, and leans on Dawkins-style thinking while insisting humans aren't basically bad. Segment 4 • Todd shares the tribal-king story where the ruler takes the lashes his guilty son deserves, using it as a picture of Jesus taking God's wrath in our place. • He explains that sin against an infinitely holy God deserves infinite punishment, and that the cross is how God remains both just and merciful. • Scott still rejects eternal punishment and substitution as unjust, while Todd urges listeners to see the cross as the greatest act of kindness ever offered to a guilty sinner. ___ Thanks for listening! In this first episode of our Advent series, “Think Christianly About Advent,” Nate Wright, Dr. Joe Boot, and Dr. Michael Thiessen explore what it truly means to think Christianly about Christ as we enter the Christmas season. Starting from family and church traditions, they move into the deeper significance of the incarnation as the moment when the eternal God steps into history, confronting both ancient pagan hopes and modern political idols. Drawing on Joe’s chapter “Think Christianly About Christ” and his article "The New Political Community", they unpack the profoundly political nature of Advent—the coming of the true Priest-King whose kingdom challenges every rival rule. This episode sets the stage for the series by reminding us that Christmas is not just about nostalgia, but about the Kingdom of God breaking into the world. Read Online“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.” Matthew 7:24 & 26Jesus' words remind us that each of us will inevitably face hardships: “The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house.” He doesn't suggest that these storms might come; He assures us that they will. Just as a house must be prepared for bad weather, so must our lives be ready for suffering, hardship, and ultimately, death.Imagine someone building a house on sand. When the storms come, the foundation erodes and the house begins to crumble. All the effort spent building that house is wasted because the foundation was weak. In contrast, those who build their houses on rock can remain confident as the storm arrives, knowing their foundations are secure. The metaphor is clear. The house represents our lives, and our foundation is either Christ or sin. If we build our lives on habits of sin—such as love of money, materialism, hedonism, impurities, anger, deceptions, and selfishness—our lives will inevitably crumble when hardship strikes.Jesus' own life perfectly illustrates this teaching. He was lied about, unjustly arrested, brutally tortured, condemned to death, and nailed to a cross. Yet through it all, the perfection of charity in Jesus' soul never wavered. He had built His human life on the most solid foundation by fully embracing the Father's will without hesitation. Jesus listened to the Father's voice and acted upon it perfectly; as a result, nothing could steal His peace. Even in the face of the Cross, Jesus manifested the perfection of every human virtue, generously bestowing grace upon every repentant sinner who takes up his cross and follows Him.Reflect today on the crosses you have faced and those you might face in the future. How have you handled these struggles? Are you prepared for the storms that will come your way? Most importantly, are you ready for the day our Lord calls you home? Those who face death with a solid foundation do so with extraordinary hope. That foundation is built by listening to Jesus' words daily and acting upon them. Those whose foundation is habitual sin will despair in the midst of hardship and fail to remain firmly grounded in Christ. Build your life on Christ and His perfect will now and every day, and He will protect you, filling you with every virtue necessary to achieve the heights of holiness in this life and much glory in Heaven. My Lord and Firm Foundation, I pray that my life will be built upon You and Your will alone. Give me ears to hear You and a firm will to follow You so that my love for You and others is so strong that I can endure all things in You, and by You, be brought to the glories of Heaven. Jesus, I trust in You.Image via Adobe StockSource of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.
