Max talks with Cole Crawford from ForeFlight about the company's latest innovation: Dynamic Procedures. Built to replace the static, legacy approach chart paradigm, Dynamic Procedures enables pilots to access IFR approach information dynamically, contextually, and interactively—right from the ForeFlight map screen. Cole explains that most pilots spend their time in ForeFlight's moving map, but approach procedures often pulled them out of that environment into static “plates.” Dynamic Procedures changes that by embedding approach information into the map itself, using a smart sidebar that adjusts to what's relevant—no more scanning through unnecessary minimums or ambiguous notes. Max and Cole walk through an ILS approach into Austin, Texas, highlighting features like: A dynamic sidebar showing stepdowns, minimums, and missed instructions Color-coded segments that reflect which part of the procedure is active Integrated 3D lighting views showing actual approach light systems Compatibility with both FAA and Jeppesen charts One-tap toggling between chart and chartless views Cole also introduces the revamped “Approach Mode” in Profile View. It declutters the horizontal profile to focus solely on the approach, making threshold crossing height, descent angles, and fix altitudes easier to interpret. The profile also includes range tick marks so pilots can visualize their distance from the runway—helpful when sequencing into an uncontrolled field or estimating when to descend. The conversation explores how this feature enhances safety—particularly by minimizing the chance of referencing incorrect minimums or missing key notes during busy phases of flight. Cole shares how the sidebar automatically selects the applicable minimum for the aircraft category, based on user input. And the system can handle complex logic, such as adjusting minimums for altimeter source changes—automatically, without the pilot having to do the math. They demonstrate several unique procedures, including RNAV approaches with course reversals and circling minimums. In circling scenarios, the system visually depicts the circling area boundary on the map, helping pilots better visualize protected airspace—especially when flying at non-standard pattern altitudes. The discussion wraps up with insights into how ForeFlight builds this feature using raw procedural data from global ANSPs (Air Navigation Service Providers). Instead of pre-composed charts, Dynamic Procedures generates visuals on-the-fly using Jeppesen data, allowing more flexibility, better legibility, and real-time filtering. The app dynamically renders labels, declutters unnecessary data, and tailors the view to your position and approach segment. Cole offers practical advice for pilots transitioning to this new paradigm. He encourages users not to discard traditional charts immediately, but to use Dynamic Procedures alongside plates at first, eventually growing comfortable with the new tool as a primary briefing method—similar to how many pilots gradually adopted ForeFlight's aeronautical map over VFR sectionals and low-altitude charts. The feature will roll out with a preview to all ForeFlight subscribers in supported regions (U.S., Canada, Pacific Islands), after which it will be available to Essential-tier and above subscribers. Wether he's being the backbone and backbeat of Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life", the backbone, backbeat and personality of Tin Machine (Hunt's band with David Bowie) or the songwriting & drumming lead singer of his newest band, The Hunt Sales Memorial, he's playing with the kind of passion that moves you. or at least, moves me. My friend Bevis (Griffin, who's been a guest on this show), texted me Saturday about havin Hunt on the show. I flipped-out and sad, YES! so, yesterday hunt came over to the apartment and we got to talk. We got to patch-up some weirdness that was lingering between from a record  we worked on over a decade ago and he told me about his journey. From being around his father, Soupy's musician friends, playing his first session at 10 years old, Todd Rundgren at 15, Iggy Pop and David Bowie, working and most of all, staying true to what you do. Brigid Bell set out on a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail just two years ago, and had the most extraordinary encounter in the Smokies. That she lived to tell the tale–and continued her thru-hike–is testament to her resilience and the calmness she gained as a 911 dispatcher. Brigid not only flourished on the trail, but she also grew a deep love for the community she found there, and wanted to give back, eventually finding her way into hostel ownership, at the excellent Weary Feet Hostel. Las dos guerras mundiales afectaron a prácticamente toda Europa. Sólo un puñado de países se mantuvieron neutrales en ambas. En la primera fueron algunos más. Noruega, muy dependiente del comercio marítimo, sufrió serías pérdidas en su flota mercante lo que generó inflación y escasez, pero consiguieron evitar la temida invasión mediante buenos oficios diplomáticos. Suecia, que había declarado la neutralidad perpetua en 1814, tuvo que padecer un bloqueo británico que restringió su comercio con Alemania. Eso le forzó a tener que claudicar ante los aliados. Dinamarca, que no llegaba a los tres millones de habitantes en 1914, experimentó un boom inicial seguido de una crisis ya que dependía mucho de Alemania y el Reino Unido. Los Países Bajos, en una posición central, actuaron como puerto de salida al Atlántico para los alemanes. Eso les costó algunas pérdidas en su marina mercante e incluso requisas de buques por parte de los aliados. Suiza, neutral desde el congreso de Viena, tuvo que lidiar con sus propias divisiones internas y una aguda escasez de alimentos, pero sirvió como refugio para innumerables refugiados, entre ellos Vladimir Lenin. España, debilitada por la guerra de Cuba, declaró su neutralidad y se benefició de un auge exportador que trajo consigo inflación y malestar social. En la segunda guerra mundial solo cinco grandes países europeos permanecieron neutrales hasta el final. Suecia adoptó una neutralidad "acomodaticia", permitió el tránsito de los alemanes por su territorio y les vendió grandes cantidades de mineral de hierro, un suministro vital para el III Reich. Sólo al final de la guerra y por presión aliada se vieron forzados a restringir los envíos. Suiza, rodeada por potencias del Eje desde 1940, dependía del carbón alemán, por lo que tuvieron que esforzarse para que la neutralidad no sólo lo fuese, sino también lo pareciese. España estaba recién salida de la guerra civil y muy debilitada. Franco se dejó querer por el Eje. Tras la derrota de Francia pasó de la neutralidad a la "no beligerancia”. Durante buena parte de la guerra se decantó por los alemanes, aunque nunca llegó a declarar la guerra a los aliados. Portugal hizo lo contrario, se mantuvo neutral, pero decantándose hacia los aliados. Irlanda aprovechó la guerra para reafirmar su independencia del Reino Unido. La neutralidad marcó la posguerra de los que se decidieron por ella. Muchos abandonaron esta postura tan pronto como terminó la guerra: Noruega, Dinamarca, Portugal y los Países Bajos se unieron a la OTAN en 1949. Suecia prefirió seguir siendo neutral hasta que con motivo de la guerra de Ucrania se unió a la OTAN. España se quedó aislada durante una década, un ostracismo europeo del que salió gracias a una serie de acuerdos con EEUU que la aproximaron a la órbita occidental, un viaje que culminó con su ingreso en la OTAN en 1982. Hoy sólo quedan dos países formalmente neutrales en Europa: Irlanda y Suiza, a los que habría que sumar a Austria que tras la guerra recobró su independencia y decidió imitar a sus vecinos de los Alpes. La neutralidad siempre ha sido un equilibrio extraordinariamente frágil, por eso pocos pueden permitírsela en Europa. Si algo se aprendió en el siglo XX, es que cuando estalla una guerra pocas cosas hay más difíciles que mantenerse neutrales.
