During my recent conversation with Niko Stratis about her new book, The Dad Rock That Made Me a Woman, she described her affection for Jason Lytle's band Grandaddy, and I mentioned I'd interviewed Jason before. Well, this got me looking for that talk and here it is! This phoner between Jason and I took place on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 11 AM ET and was focused on his solo album Dept. of Disappearance, and we covered other things too, including whether or not Grandaddy might ever make music or play shows again. As it happens, Grandaddy will be on tour soon!To hear this entire conversation, subscribe to Kreative Kontrol on Patreon at the $6 tier or higher (a reminder that an annual subscription includes a discount compared to a monthly one).Related episodes/links:Ep. #974: Niko StratisEp. #924: Lance Bangs and Bob Nastanovich on ‘Pavements'Ep. #803: The Replacements' ‘Tim: Let it Bleed Edition' with Bob Mehr, Jason Jones & Ed StasiumEp. #717: No AgeEp. #704: Sam Prekop and John McEntireEp. #694: David CrossSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/kreative-kontrol. Your guide to a good morning: start off cosmic, with electronic experiments and soul-jazz explorations for the new new age. Let things come into focus through patient post-rock crescendos. Then the day begins with psych-pop, indie rock, and other eclectic jams. If it's working, don't change the formula. Hope you enjoy it, and see you again in February.Playlist: Memory Pearl, featuring Sam Prekop and Mortiz Fasbender - Music Travel IIIMoon Apple - Pillar IV - Mantra Major ForceDissolve in Sepia - Heart of the OceanPrepared - Modul Vier IIIPeace Flag Ensemble - Hot MicAlabaster DePlume - Oh My Actual DaysJustin Walter - StepsWayne Patrick Garrett - Something About UsYasu Cub - Cold, Cold NightApplesauce Tears - A Celebration with GeneverRich Aucoin - MoogAvi C. Die Hall of Fame des Track17-Podcasts erhält mit dem neuen Avantgarde-Pop-Theater der Kolumbianerin Lucrecia Dalt ein neues Mitglied. On September 7, NPR dropped an episode of All Songs Considered about an enormous new compilation album called "For The Birds: The Birdsong Project." It's a massive collection of original songs and poems about birds and inspired by birdsong. Artists range from Alice Coltrane, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson, and The Flaming Lips to Sam Prekop, Devendra Banhart, Yo Yo Ma, and of course Andrew Bird & Jeff Tweedy. Here's a link to the episode - https://www.npr.org/2022/09/06/1121237661/this-episode-is-for-the-birds As I listened to the collection for a few days at work, my ambient brain thought of using some of the instrumental tracks in a mix. So for this mix all the tracks come from The Birdsong Project. Most of the cuts have worked bird sounds in with the music. Unfortunately this collection is not available on Bandcamp. So it's very expensive to buy the full compilation, with the vinyl box set selling for $400 and the mp3 downloads going for $38 per volume. So I would suggest listening to the collection on Spotify which you can find here - https://www.audubon.org/news/the-birdsong-project-box-set Here's one more link to check out - https://www.thebirdsongproject.com/ Cheers! This week's show covers new music from London's Hot Chip, Brighton's Wax Machine, a collaboration between Chicago's Sam Prekop and John McEntire, and the team-up of Paris's Biche with the LA band Pearl & The Oysters. For the archive track this week, Brendan goes back to 1992 for some mutant hardcore punk on the melodic side of that scene. This band was signed to Sub Pop Records at the time, which was about the best indie label on the scene in those days. The track in question is by the Tacoma, Washington band Seaweed, and it's called “Recall.” Of course, there are six more bonus tracks, but you have to sign up for our email newsletter to get those. (Great music is included there, too, ladies and gentlemen.) It's pretty easy to do, if you just click this link. (And do so without fear. We won't misuse your email address, as this show is run by two guys, Mark and Brendan; Not some faceless corporation.) Lastly, don't miss our fabulous Spotify playlists. We make one for each episode of the show, so grab the latest if you are up to date, and dig into previous episodes if you are new here, or just curious. Have a terrific week!

Welcome back to Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions, with your host Jason P. Woodbury. This week on the show, we're joined by Andrew Khedoori and Mark Gowing of Longform Editions. Home to extended experimental works by previous Transmissions guests like William Tyler, Carlos Nino, and Angel Bat Dawid—plus, many more avant composers and music makers—it's tempting to think of Longform Editions as a “record label,” but Andrew and Mark consider it an online gallery for musical works. Every two months, they upload four new entries. On June 15th, the same day this podcast is released, they offer up a new batch, featuring Sam Prekop of Sea and Cake, Foodman, Megan Alice Clune, and Nailah Hunter. Mark and Andrew have a long history in the music industry and are lifelong record collectors. They joined us to discuss the way Longform works, how they crafted it as a sustainable project for both artists who contribute and themselves, the process of deep listening, and much more. Thanks for listening to Aquarium Drunkard's Transmissions. You can support this podcast by checking out our Patreon page. Help support independent media. And of course, rate, review, subscribe, and spread the word if you dig Transmissions, which is part of the Talkhouse Podcast Network.
La majoria dels músics no tenen un sol talent com a creadors i així ho demostren: també són artistes visuals i plàstics que creen les portades per als seus discos. A TЯATЯ

Incoming transmission from...Sam Prekop. For more than 25 years, he's released music with the Sea and Cake and on his own. With the band, he's responsible for guitarwork and providing signature vocals, cool, aloof, and melodically clear. But his last few solo albums have found him focusing less on pop song craft and more on analog synthesizers and ambient textures. His latest for Thrill Jockey records is called Comma and on it he blends serene soundscapes with twitching electronic rhythms. Transmissions host Jason P. Woodbury reached him in Chicago to talk about hunkering down, synths, and how he and his Sea and Cake bandmates continue their remarkable work together. If you enjoy this talk, please share it with a friend. They can listen wherever they get podcasts or head directly to Aquarium Drunkard, where they'll find all our shows, plus 15 years of great music writing, interviews, reviews, radio playlists, features, and more. On today's episode I talk to musician Sam Prekop. Sam grew up in Chicago and while he went to art school, forming the band Shrimp Boat sent him off in a completely different direction. When the band broke up in the early '90s, he formed The Sea and Cake with Archer Prewitt of The Coctails and Tortoise's John McEntire, and over the last two and a half decades, they've released 11 albums, the most recent being 2018's Any Day. As a solo artist, Sam has released four albums, all on Thrill Jockey, and his latest Comma will be out this September! This week, Nancy is featuring an episode of Radiolab Presents: Gonads. A lot of us understand biological sex with a pretty fateful underpinning: if you’re born with XX chromosomes, you’re female; if you’re born with XY chromosomes, you’re male. But it turns out, our relationship to the opposite sex is more complicated than we think. This episode was reported by Molly Webster, and produced by Matt Kielty. With scoring, original composition and mixing by Matt Kielty and Alex Overington. Additional production by Rachael Cusick, and editing by Pat Walters. The “Ballad of Daniel Webster” and “Gonads” was written, performed and produced by Majel Connery and Alex Overington. Special thanks to Erica Todd, Andrew Sinclair, Robin Lovell-Badge, and Sarah S. Richardson. Plus, a big thank you to the musicians who gave us permission to use their work in this episode—composer Erik Friedlander, for "Frail as a Breeze, Part II," and musician Sam Prekop, whose work "A Geometric," from his album The Republic, is out on Thrill Jockey. Radiolab is supported in part by Science Sandbox, a Simons Foundation initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science. And the Alfred P. Best known as founding members of the long-running Chicago band the Sea & Cake, Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt trade in tightly constructed, jazz-flecked pop songs for sprawling instrumental synthesis. Touring in support of Prekop's recent LP of modular synthesizer compositions The Republic, Prekop and Prewitt play a new, untitled composition built from Prekop's modulating melodic patterns and layered with Prewitt's lithe, soaring guitar lines. We talk with Prekop about his history with this style of instrumental music and its connections to his better-known work with the Sea & Cake. Recorded live at KDHX in St. Louis, Missouri on May 19, 2015. Engineered by Andy Coco.
