The vice president sat down with USA TODAY White House Correspondent Francesca Chambers to share his thoughts on issues both controversial (the firing of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, the deployment of National Guard troops to American cities, the contentious White House meeting with President Vladimir Zelenskky back in February) and mundane (President Donald Trump's new White House décor and the engagement of Travis Kelce to superstar Taylor Swift) in this wide-ranging conversation. Francesca joins The Excerpt to share her takeaways and a few choice clips from the vice president. You can watch the full interview with Vice President JD Vance here. Please let us know what you think of this episode by sending a note to podcasts@usatoday.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

You may not have ever heard the name of a man who was among the most profound intellectuals of the modern conservative movement in America. Frank S. Meyer was the man who came up with the idea of fusionism, an alliance between traditionalists and libertarians that underpinned the anti-communist bloc that composed the American Right for the latter half of the 20th century. Ironically enough, Meyer first came up with the idea of fusionism when he was an out-and-proud Communist, though he initially used the term as a unification of the American Founding and communist ideas a la Howard Zinn's “A People's History of the United States.” Daniel Flynn, a Hoover Institute fellow and senior editor of “The American Spectator,” has spent the last few years writing a new biography of Meyer called “The Man Who Invented Conservatism.” His book brings to light new documents and information about Meyer's life previously unknown, and he joined “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss the man-turned-missing-link in the conservative movement. Subscribe to The Signal Sitdown wherever you get your podcasts: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL2026390376 It's Andrew Breitbart's world, we're all just living in it. Tragically, Breitbart himself is not. He died suddenly on March 1, 2012 at just 43 years of age. In his life, Breitbart was always a pioneer, pushing media and politics to the edges of the map only to open a completely new frontier. There's something fitting to him exploring the frontier of eternity just a little before the rest of us in his earthly death. Breitbart spent most of his career at the confluence of Hollywood, media, and politics. He was one of the first men on the right to clearly see the complete picture. “Celebrity is everything in this country,” Breitbart once said. “Media is everything. It's everything.” After listening to a radio interview with Breitbart, Larry O'Connor, then a show manager for Broadway productions, contacted Breitbart and wanted to write for his blog Big Hollywood. O'Connor found Breitbart, but Breitbart also found O'Connor. Now a radio host with Washington, D.C.'s WMAL, probably the most influential political radio station in the country, and author of a new book titled “Shameless Liars,” O'Connor joined "The Signal Sitdown" to discuss how Andrew Breitbart saw the rise of Trump, and the efforts to take him down like the Russiagate hoax, coming. "A Tongan that goes crazy every play." It's hard to top Jacob Rich Kongaika's self-description, but you should also add "multiplier." After crossing rivalry lines by transferring from Arizona to ASU last year, Kongaika quickly became a key contributor at defensive tackle, as well as a loud and jovial voice in the locker room for the Sun Devils. He's back in 2025 to provide more big hits, big laughs, and some big songs. On this episode we discuss crossing Territorial Cup lines, his football journey, planting the pitchfork in Tucson, his love of singing, the impact of the Poly pipeline and much more.
Games—and championships—are won in the trenches. For the Sun Devils, the offensive line took significant steps forward last year, paving the way to Cam Skattebo's run to history and the passing game's breakout. With four starters back in 2025, plus a host of talented younger linemen and newcomers, position coach Saga Tuitele is primed to field another formidable unit. On this episode, we breakdown the makeup of the O-line, the battles to watch in fall camp, lessons from the title run, the value of culture and leadership, and more.
