The sacrament of the Eucharist has many different names, and "each name evokes certain aspects of it." Fr. Mike explains the meaning behind this sacrament's various titles, including; thanksgiving to God, the Lord's Supper, Breaking of Bread, the Holy Sacrifice, Holy Mass, and others. All the names of this sacrament ultimately remind us that the Eucharist is both a noun and a verb. It is the Son's great sacrifice to the Father and Jesus Christ himself. SHOWNOTES Have you ever stood at a crossroads where you knew what God was calling you to, but everything in you wanted to retreat to the safer, more comfortable path? Candace and Jason Jackson Jr. open the episode answering a listener question from Ashley, a newer Christian working her way through the Bible. Jason describes how he started reading from the perspective of the sinner rather than the savior, putting himself in the shoes of the people Jesus is speaking to instead of in Jesus' shoes. That way, he says, the message comes through and not just the miracle. The episode picks up Jason's story where last week left off. From being woken up at 9 years old to provide a clean drug test for family members, to choosing at 11 to move in with friends so his mom would have one less mouth to feed, to walking away from an NFL career at 21 years old, Jason traces a path shaped by one conviction: a job is what you get paid to do, and work is what you were created to do. Ministry, he says, is work. Jason then talks about the Kidron Valley, the Valley of Decisions, the space between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives where Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He talks through what it means to be caught between peace and pressure, and why he believes the response in that valley is prayer. The episode also includes a second listener question from Gracie, who just turned 18 and asks for one piece of advice as a new adult. Jason tells her to serve as many people as she can, and Candace encourages her to stay honest, with herself, with others, and with God. Isaiah 53:3–7 Our culture lionizes the powerful, the aggressive, and the bold. Meekness is mistaken for weakness, and silence under pressure is seen as defeat. But centuries before the cross, Isaiah described a Servant who would be despised, rejected, and silent—and through whose wounds we would be healed. Pastor Chuck Swindoll opens Isaiah 53:3–7 to show how Jesus fulfilled the portrait of the suffering Servant—the Lamb who went to slaughter in silence, bearing our griefs and carrying our sorrows as our substitute. Find your hope in the Lamb who was slain for you. True strength is not the absence of suffering but the willingness to bear it for others.

Inheriting Margie's Outdoor Store, James has collected over 300 reports of strange phenomena, including sightings of Sasquatch, UFOs, and a mysterious black panther creature. Notably, there are accounts of an 11-foot-tall Sasquatch-like being. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to James's story. With a military background that endowed him with extraordinary physical and cognitive abilities, he navigates the rugged terrain with ease, almost as if her were a real life Captain America. His adventures include a personal experience of spatial displacement in Brokeleg Burrows, an area notorious for strange occurrences and disappearances, like that of Chris Zitzowitz. Welcome to another episode of LDS Discussions! Today we are joined by Brian Buchanan to discuss the William Clayton Diaries. For decades, the William Clayton Diaries have occupied a near-mythical place in Mormon history. Hidden away in the First Presidency vault, copied in secret, fought over in court, leaked to researchers, and cited in some of the most controversial debates surrounding Joseph Smith and plural marriage, these journals have one of the most fascinating histories of any historical document in the Latter-day Saint tradition. In this episode, we trace the remarkable journey of William Clatyon's Nauvoo journals from the 1840s to the present day. We explore how historians such as James Allen, Dean Jessee, Leonard Arrington, Thomas Alexander, Andrew Ehat, Scott Faulring, and others gained access to these records, why the Church restricted them for so many years, and how copies eventually found their way into the hands of independent researchers and critics. We also examine the legal battle surrounding the journals, the role of Jerald and Sandra Tanner in publishing portions of them, the impact of the Mark Hofmann era, and the ongoing debates over access, transparency, and historical scholarship within Mormonism. With Yale University Press preparing the first complete scholarly edition of the William Clayton Diaries, this is the perfect time to revisit one of the most important archival stories in Mormon history. We discuss the discovery and preservation of Clayton's journals, the First Presidency vault and restricted documents, specific transcripts that were created for the Clayton diaries, how those transcriptions leaked out into the public and the lawsuit on these leaked transcripts. We also lightly discuss the recent news that additional parts of Clayton's diaries have been released to the public and the debate around whether Joseph Smith was actually a polygamist. Whether you're interested in Mormon history, archival controversies, historiography, or the debate over Joseph Smith's polygamy, this episode provides the essential backstory behind one of the most important historical sources from Nauvoo. Be sure to join us for the next episode where we share some of the most controversial and exciting entries from William Clayton's journals!___________________YouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. What do you do when you've prayed and nothing has changed? You go again. In week 5 of our summer series, Christine Caine takes us to Elijah on the summit of Carmel: face between his knees, praying in the dark, sending his servant back to the horizon seven times before a cloud the size of a man's hand finally appears. Most of us go once. Maybe twice. Maybe three times. But the fourth, fifth, sixth time — that's where most people stop. That's where faith gets tested not by what we see, but by what we don't. Elijah heard the sound of rain before a single drop fell. That gap, between what you hear in the spirit and what you can see in the natural, is what Christine Caine calls the faith zone. And it's where every one of us will be asked to live. We've committed to the direction. Now comes the test: what do you do when you keep going and it's still hard? Resilience isn't the absence of exhaustion. It's the willingness to eat the bread God puts in front of you and get up one more time. ✨ If you've ever asked questions like… ✅ I've been praying for the same thing for years and nothing has changed — should I keep going? ✅ How do I pray with faith and expectation when I'm exhausted and discouraged? ✅ What do I do when God feels silent and I can't see anything happening? ✅ How do I hold onto peace without ignoring the reality of what I'm facing? ✅ What does persistent prayer actually look like in everyday life? ✅ Is it okay to feel like giving up — and what do I do when I get there? ✅ How do I keep believing for a miracle when I've seen nothing for so long? …then this is your episode.

A common and quietly damaging misconception in the Christian life is that holiness means being voiceless, that servanthood means accepting mistreatment, and that Jesus modeled silence in every situation. He did not. Yes, there were moments Jesus chose not to defend Himself. But He also corrected the Pharisees, stood up for Himself when criticized, and questioned those who treated Him wrongfully. The cross was not the story of a doormat — it was the story of the Son of God who laid down His life of His own accord, by His own authority, according to His Father's will. John 10:18 makes that unmistakably clear. There is a straight line from Jesus' example to our own: we are not bad Christians for having a voice. We are not unloving for saying "you hurt me," or "I will speak with you again when you can be respectful," or simply "no." God entrusted us with decision-making. Wisdom, dignity, and worth are not the enemies of humility. They are part of bearing the image of the One who was powerful, purposeful, and deeply worthy. Today's Bible Verse "No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."— John 10:18, NIV Ponder Today Jesus was not a doormat — and His example does not call us to be one either. He corrected, questioned, and spoke up when it was right to do so. Holiness is not the same as silence, and servanthood is not the same as accepting abuse. The cross was an act of sovereign power, not passive suffering. Jesus laid down His life of His own accord, by His own authority. That is not weakness — it is the most powerful act in human history, chosen freely out of love. Ask God for discernment about when to speak and when to be still. Jesus operated according to the Father's will, not the pressure of those around Him. That same Spirit is available to guide us in knowing when to speak a brave word and when to remain quiet. A Prayer for You Today Father, I want to thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ — the perfect example He is to me, and for the cross, which is not an endorsement of abuse but a picture of One freely laying down His life for us. It is the ultimate gateway to salvation, and we thank You for it. Teach us when to speak up and when to stay silent. Show us when to act and when to be still. Give us discernment in our knowing and going. In Jesus' name, Amen. Under the law, the people constantly toiled to become righteous through their own efforts. Any blessings they received were conditional and based on their performance; they had to work for God's approval. Under grace, everything has flipped: because of the finished works of Jesus and our faith in them, we're no longer working for righteousness but from righteousness. When the world pressures us to fall in with its principles, we must make the effort to agree with the salvation God has given us. Believers have been taken from grinding through hard work and drudgery to get closer to God to simply responding to the nearness we already have with Him. What is hidden will eventually be revealed... but God's desire in exposing sin is not condemnation, it's transformation. True freedom comes through repentance, holiness, and a life fully surrendered to the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
