It's Friday, it's Kick Point, you know the drill. Thanks for downloading this week's episode. We really do appreciate you supporting and enjoying the show! As always, there's plenty of waffle to start this week, including Joe's Easter adventures in a renovated bus, Dan's trip to HobbyCraft and some of your correspondence on which golf equipment best suits which brand of car.  Onto the actual equipment chat, we've got a review of the latest mini driver to hit shelves, the TaylorMade R7 Quad mini. Does it do much to move the category on from last year's Brnr Copper Mini or is it just a nice excuse for TaylorMade to wheel out some good old-fashioned nostalgia?  We're also introducing a shiny new segment to the show, the Cool Board. Those of you who watched Top Gear may recognise what we've done here, but we must stress that the Cool Board is an entirely different and unrelated premise to Top Gear's Cool Wall. Each week, we'll place a few pieces of golf equipment and brands into one of five categories on our newly designed Cool Board. You'll hear the full rules on the show, but we want you as involved as possible in this, so listen out for how you can get involved.  Finally, we get stuck into the Grand Slam-winning bag of Rory McIlroy. The story this year has been more about what hasn't changed in Rory's bag than what has, so we dive into why he hasn't switched into Qi35 woods and how the chance decision to change golf balls may have been the key to his stunning 2025 so far.  Get in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.com Sign up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter  Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint    Watch us in full on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolf Chapters: 0:00:00 Intro, waffling and your correspondence  0:13:55 TaylorMade R7 Quad mini driver review 0:23:40 Introducing 'The Cool Board' 0:30:55 The Cool Board: L.A.B. putters, Malbon and more... 0:54:13 Rory McIlroy What's In The Bag

SEIZOEN 4 VAN PodcastGemist - We zitten alweer in seizoen 4! - Mogelijkheid voor pop-up optredens in kleine podia (zoals Trefpunt in Gent of Rockcafé in Rotterdam). In this episode, Danny is joined by writer and comedian Paul Kerensa. Paul has written extensively for TV, including Miranda, Top Gear and Not Going Out and has published a number of highly popular books, including several children´s books. He claims to be the only stand-up comic without a naval and has performed in numerous countries. Paul is also the host of The Great British Broadcasting Century podcast, which is all about BBC history. Naturally, because Paul is a bit of a BBC history nerd, this episode is peppered with fascinating insights into the subject. They also discuss the 3 types of gigs Paul does, including lots of church gigs, and his insights into how he adapts his act for these venues include several funny anecdotal stories. If you can´t get enough of these podcasts, head to https://www.patreon.com/DannyHurst to access my exclusive, member-only, fun-filled and fact-packed history-related videos. KEY TAKEAWAYS The BBC has had a strong influence on British culture e.g. The London-centric, Victorian/Dickensian feel of a traditional Christmas is partly down to them. Bush House, which became the BBC´s home in 1940 was the most expensive building in the world. Comedy is a great way of getting people to think, including about religion. Most churches and cathedrals are better venues than comedy clubs. The BBC was not behind the first radio broadcast in the UK. The birthplace of the microphone is now a Chinese supermarket. What people will laugh at has changed drastically, making modern audiences trickier. The BBC once hosted an evening of mass telepathy. BEST MOMENTS “It´s one of those tours that never ends.” “I couldn’t find a way of saying “oh by the way I go to church” without it killing the room.” “He thought he had to speak the language of comedians to us, which he thought was just swearing.” “People aren’t going to laugh if they feel unsettled.” “There´s a community in Sussex that’s a little bit Amish.” “It´s the only building outside of Israel that has been a church, a synagogue and a mosque.” “I can’t sell one-liners like they do.” “Guildford cathedral is still selling itself for film locations for spiritual battles.” “You go from amateur questioner to procrastinator.” “I´ve got no belly button…I once did a gig where there were three of us, quite rare.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.paulkerensa.com HOST BIO Historian, performer, and mentor Danny Hurst has been engaging audiences for many years, whether as a lecturer, stand-up comic or intervention teacher with young offenders and excluded secondary students. Having worked with some of the most difficult people in the UK, he is a natural storyteller and entertainer, whilst purveying the most fascinating information that you didn't know you didn't know. A writer and host of pub quizzes across London, he has travelled extensively and speaks several languages. He has been a consultant for exhibitions at the Imperial War Museum and Natural History Museum in London as well as presenting accelerated learning seminars across the UK. With a wide range of knowledge ranging from motor mechanics to opera to breeding carnivorous plants, he believes learning is the most effective when it's fun. Who were his inspirations? What is the essence of VW? And did he play as hard as he worked?Jeremy tells all and more.We found out how two creative teams independently came up with same Polo Cops idea. And how, for the same brief, King Kong was also in the mix and the client was persuaded to run it a year later. The Polo Ice Car was another fascinating story … a press ad that became national news, involving a life sized car carved from 9.5 tonnes of ice. In this episode, co-host Scott Rosenbaum sits down with Vishal Patel, CEO of James Gin, one of the fastest-growing and most unconventional spirits brands on the market. Founded in the UK by Top Gear's James May and master distiller Hugh Anderson, James Gin has already surpassed $2 million in revenue, with 50% of sales coming from the U.S. — a market not traditionally known for embracing gin.Vishal shares how the brand is flipping the traditional playbook on its head, building a media-first business with over 1 million followers across social platforms, and driving sales through digital-first, DTC strategies (!!). His insights are essential for any drinks entrepreneur navigating today's saturated and highly competitive landscape. In this episode, Vishal shares:How James Gin scaled past $2M in revenue while launching in both the UK and U.S. markets within its first four years. Why the team operates more like a content studio than a traditional spirits brand — and how its "anti-celebrity" tone sets it apart. The data-driven rationale behind going DTC-first in the U.S., and how James Gin expanded from 15 to nearly 40 Total Wine stores in California. The importance of conversion metrics, and how improving the site's 0.75% conversion rate is central to doubling the business. How the brand's flavor innovation and storytelling — with SKUs like Asian Parsnip, London Drizzle, and California Dreamgin' — create buzz and drive sales. Why 95% of James Gin's social media followers are male, but 40% of purchasers are women — and what they're doing to bridge that gap.Why Vishal believes founders must be clear about their end goal before taking investment, and how overextending can derail brand building.Last Call: We discuss the DISCUS 2024 Annual Economic Briefing report — quiz style!
