With major announcements across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and VisionOS, the group dives into what these updates mean for users, developers, and Apple's broader ecosystem strategy. The episode opens with panel introductions before jumping straight into VisionOS 26, where the team highlights Apple's focus on spatial computing. Features like interactive 3D widgets, refined Personas, and improved collaboration tools on Vision Pro generate both excitement and critical commentary. Marty and Eric share real-world experiences with spatial widgets, emphasizing their value in immersive environments. The panel acknowledges Apple's ambitious direction for Vision Pro as it evolves from a tech demo to a productivity and creative powerhouse. Next, the conversation moves into iOS 26, spotlighting the redesigned lock screen with dynamic wallpapers and a streamlined interface for messages and phone calls. Jeff praises the new call screening and RCS group chat support, both of which significantly improve communication experiences. Updates to the Camera app and accessibility tools also reinforce Apple's commitment to a more inclusive user experience. iPadOS 26 draws praise for finally bridging the productivity gap with macOS. The introduction of a new windowing system allows for desktop-like multitasking, and panelists are enthusiastic about the debut of the Preview app on iPad. The improved Files app and richer audio input options are celebrated as productivity boosters, making the iPad an even stronger contender as a primary computing device. Turning to macOS 15, the conversation continues around convergence — with iPad and Mac experiences growing closer than ever. Chuck and David discuss how feature parity is leading to more seamless transitions between devices, particularly for multitasking and app continuity. The panel also briefly touches on watchOS 11 and tvOS 18, noting updates in health, fitness, and media experience. While these updates were more iterative, they reflect Apple's steady enhancement of its peripheral platforms. One of the standout segments is a look at Apple Intelligence, Apple's new generative AI initiative. The group discusses how Apple's privacy-first approach to AI, combined with on-device and cloud-assisted processing, could change the way users interact with Siri, productivity apps, and automation. The discussion also covers how this impacts developers and third-party integrations moving forward. In the final stretch, the team speculates on the future of the iPad and Mac. Will they fully converge or continue to serve distinct roles? With the iPad gaining more macOS features and the Mac embracing touch-like elements, the lines continue to blur. The episode closes with a few announcements and community highlights, including a plug for Macstock 2024 — inviting listeners to connect in person and keep the Apple discussion going. When a Split Braille view is active, your Braille display is split into two halves, or regions. Additionally, two vertical lines are displayed between the two regions to show the separation. The use of the Split Braille feature is not restricted to displays of a certain size. It will work with Braille displays of any length though using it with smaller displays may be less beneficial. An interesting approach to exploring the universe by    The The Audio Universe webpage   https://www.audiouniverse.org/home   JAWS 2023, Fusion 2023 and ZoomText 2023 were Released on October 25 US Time   Three areas in JAWS I've noted are: The new ‘at a glance' feature; More work refining ‘notifications history'; JAWS now runs on ARM 64 processors.   A Chat about my New Apple Watch Ultra   It is not just an Apple Watch for me, but a fully functional workout watch.   Here are My Review Notes   Watch OS 9 Software Implications on Ultra   Larger screen allowing better view by people with low vision, and much easier to see in bright light. Larger 49mm diagonal screen does make it easier for VoiceOver gestures, particularly for the VoiceOver rotor: two finger rotate clockwise or counter clockwise. 3 finger gestures for speech and screen curtain no longer need to be done diagonally across screen, but side by side which is usual on iPhone. Access to the online QWERTY keyboard is easier with export by touch rather than having to use the flick left or right gesture to navigate the keyboard quickly.   Hardware Implications Ultra Titanium adds better strength for wear and tare on physical unit as against stainless stell or aluminium.   Cased raised above glass for side protection as knocking against objects such as walls etc. Having a flat glass surface surrounded by the case rather than curved glass edges, does make it easier to directly access complications using the actual case as a guideline for Voiceover users: very much like with the iPhone. Dedicated action button on right between speakers allowing specific apps to be executed: eg workout app with a specific routine which some people make find slow es[especially when trying to use the watch as a training tool. A personal siren can be activated via the actions button alerting people around that person needs help or assistance. Dual speakers produce loud and clear voiceOver speech or speech output via Siri, particularly important when navigating with Maps or asking where you are or using apps in noisy environments. Speakers are not as distorted when wet by being in a shower, in the rain, going for a Wim etc. Speech is software, but not distorted. 3 microphone array in conjunction with dual speakers allow clear two way phone calls to be conducted. Better microphone array means better responses from Siri in response to requests: no more “can you repeat that” due to noise. Raised panel on left edge of watch makes it easy to find the Side button with the Digital Crown protruding slightly above for easy location whilst being protected from the side by accidental Digital Crown touch's. As only one model, cellular and GPS, user can add mobile phone/data when ever desired without having to purchase another watch. 36HR battery life (will give security for people using the watch during the day or over two days where the watch may not be able to be charged. I.e. with cellar access, a person always has the means of being able to contact someone if they need help for assistance: no dead battery leaving a person without the means of contacting people. Dual frequency GPS (l1 plus L5) more precise GPS positioning (especially of L5 with tall buildings or signal reflection), of particular concern to people who are blind or low vision. All previously existing Apple Watch bands will work with the Ultra.   A Sort of Review of the Pixel Watch with accessibility on Double Tap   Not a positive review, but have a listen. By the way, it's 32 mins in to the episode.   https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/double-tap/id1309267346?i=1000584243393   iOS 16.1 Major bug with Mail Preview on, VoiceOver reads Preview of Wrong msg   Fix for the moment, turn Preview of messages off in settings, Mail.   https://applevis.com/blog/apple-releases-ios-161-ipados-161-bringing-many-fixes-voiceover-users   Using Your iPhone as a WebCam for You're Mac   You'll need 2 things, iPhone XR and above running iOS 16, and a Mac running Mac OS 13. My poor iPhone X missed out, got very excited to have a dedicated iPhone-WebCam on my Mac mini, o'well, I'll keep using my iPhone 12 Pro. Just bring your iPhone near you're Mac, have it locked, and you'll be in webCam mode with the Mac.   https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213244   Rediscovering the Usefulness of my iPad Pro 12.9 (original) and my Smart Keyboard   Having the keyboard as part of the folding case makes very convenient for just popping it open and start typing. The layout of the Settings screen, Mail etc, with the main items on the left, and on the right the expanded screen for that item. Split View, where you can have one app on the left and the other on the right: I'm back to using Twitter on the Left and Notes on the right when doing research for Talking Tech etc. It is just a bit more than I can do on the iPhone.Support this Vision Australia Radio program: https://www.visionaustralia.org/donate?src=radio&type=0&_ga=2.182040610.46191917.1644183916-1718358749.1627963141See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

OpenSpace launches ‘Google Street View' for construction projects

Stellenbosch-based Agile Business Technology (ABT) has partnered with US group OpenSpace to launch its 360° capture and artificial intelligence (AI) platform for construction projects in South Africa. By using the 360° images generated in OpenSpace to document an evolving jobsite, teams can radically improve their collaboration, says ABT architecture, engineering and construction solutions director Jaco Barnard. The software also makes it easier do quality control, note progress, and do inspections to help identify safety hazards. The technology can even be leveraged as a point of reference following project completion to assist owners and facilities teams to resolve any outstanding issues, adds Barnard. Founded in 2017, OpenSpace is an AI technology company that aims to bring “new levels of transparency and efficiency to construction and real estate projects”. Every construction project (big or small) has many role players who need to see the site and know what is happening. Until now, the only options open to these role players were to look at hundreds of pictures with little context of location, or video calling someone from the site. The Covid-19 pandemic has also made actual site visits very difficult over the last two-and-a-half years. “To date, our customers have used OpenSpace to capture more than seven-billion square feet of imagery from active construction projects across thousands of sites in over 75 countries,” explains the US company. “Imagine checking in on your site from the comfort of your office or even your home. No need to catch red-eye flights or live in expensive hotels — simply ask someone to take a walk and you can virtually visit the site that same day.” Construction companies also use the platform to “automatically capture a complete visual record of the jobsite, providing a single source of truth that increases coordination, drives accountability, and simplifies dispute resolution”. How it Works Anyone on site can put on the helmet with the camera attached, connect their phone, start recording, and upload the footage to Openspace.ai after they have walked the site. From there, OpenSpace promises to do the heavy lifting. Using AI, computer vision, three-dimensional reconstruction and machine learning, the user's position is plotted on the floor plan and the 360° images are generated. By clicking on the dots on the screen, viewers can move around as they please and see the site with a 360˚ view. Additional features such as Split View and Field Notes allow viewers to compare the site to previous walkthroughs, and to also download a pdf report with the location and time of any field notes taken. This processing happens in less than an hour. Barnard says ABT sells a subscription, with clients then able to use the software on as many projects as they like for a 12-month period. “We are targeting construction companies, as well as construction companies' clients.” Barnard says OpenSpace can work equally well on anything from a simple building project to more complicated industrial and underground projects. “All you need is adequate light. The camera, mounted on a hard hat, has its own WiFi. “What really stands out about this product is that it is so easy to use,” notes Barnard. “You put on the camera, you press play and you start walking.”

. 1. iPadOS Abbiamo avuto modo di sfogliare il review di Viticci (https://www.macstories.net/stories/ios-and-ipados-15-the-macstories-review/) e vedere alcuni video interessanti: iPadOS 15 Walkthrough: EVERYTHING You Need To Know! The Microsoft co-founder has ditched Windows Mobile for Android. Despite getting closer to Steve Jobs before he died in 2011, Gates still has no interest in using iOS. further pressed about the possibility of using iOS instead, Gates responded, “Nope. No iPhone.”   Apple TV is finally back on Amazon buster https://www.cultofmac.com/505375/apple-tv-finally-back-amazon/ Getting your hands on the new Apple TV 4K though Amazon won’t be easy though. The page for Apple’s newest set-top box shows that there are no units in stock. It appears that Amazon is only offering the 64GB model priced at $199. Putting Apple TV back on its digital shelves is a bit unexpected but is likely related to Apple TV finally gaining an Amazon Prime Video app. The service still hasn’t launched on Apple TV yet but is expected to debut at some point this fall.   Apple's Face ID is a Triumph of Machine Learning Technology https://blog.andplus.com/apples-faceid-tech-machine-learning Data scientist Abdul Dremali is leading research & development in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data at the AndPlus Innovation Lab, and he’s very impressed with Face ID.   macOS High Sierra is now available to the public buster https://www.cultofmac.com/505135/macos-high-sierra-now-available-public/ Apple unleashed its huge update for the Mac this morning bringing a host of new features and UI changes to desktops after months of beta testing. Most of the update contains under-the-hood changes the makes machines faster and more stable, but there are plenty of new additions to love. macOS High Sierra brings support for the new Apple File System to the Mac. Apple added it to iOS devices last year. AFS’ 64-bit architecture is more secure, with built-in encryption, crash protection and simplified data backups. Safari is one of the biggest benefactors from the macOS High Sierra update. Apple claims its now the world’s fastest browser, with an 80% speed advantage over Google Chrome Mail received some improved search functions tied to the update to Spotlight. You can also use a new Split View mode too that lets you write emails while keeping tabs on your inbox. The Photos app also got some big updates. There’s now better facial recognition and some new editing tools that make it a more capable photo editor. Notes got a new pin feature to keep your most important notes to the top of the list where you’ll be able to find them easier. The app also has support for tables now. Last Thursday, six ad industry groups penned an open letter criticizing Apple's upcoming Safari feature, saying the decision to incorporate such technology into a web browser is heavy-handed and "bad for consumer choice and bad for the ad-supported online content and services."  Today, Apple responded to the missive in a statement to The Loop. "Apple believes that people have a right to privacy - Safari was the first browser to block third party cookies by default and Intelligent Tracking Prevention is a more advanced method for protecting user privacy," Apple said. "Ad tracking technology has become so pervasive that it is possible for ad tracking companies to recreate the majority of a person's web browsing history. This information is collected without permission and is used for ad re-targeting, which is how ads follow people around the Internet. The new Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature detects and eliminates cookies and other data used for this cross-site tracking, which means it helps keep a person's browsing private. The feature does not block ads or interfere with legitimate tracking on the sites that people actually click on and visit. Cookies for sites that you interact with function as designed, and ads placed by web publishers will appear normally.”   Apple’s Face ID white paper is not nearly as boring as it sounds https://images.apple.com/business/docs/FaceID_Security_Guide.pdf   Under Review Tom Bihn’s Hero’s Journey Backpack for $480 Outdoor Research Dry Payload Pack for $150 Fender Mustang GT200 for $600 Fender Mustang GT40 for $250 Otterbox Strada Folio case  Phone 7 Plus or 8 Plus for $25 iPhone 7 and 8 for $23
