Jerrad Wallman was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the court and course. The thing he loves most about high school sports is how it brings people together. The social connections he makes throughout the winter are a fun part of basketball. Whether he is having a winning season or a challenging season, people come together to cheer him and his team on and support them. He has made many good friends that he guards on the court, but once the game is over, they are laughing and talking about things they have in common. Jerrad competes in basketball and golf. In his free time, he participates in 4-H, youth group, and various activities at his church such as running the sound booth, VBS crew leader, and service projects. As part of the National Honor Society, Jerrad has helped with the Salvation Army Food Distribution events. As part of band and choir, he has participated in the Salvation Army Christmas Basket fundraiser to sing and play while raising donations to help support the community. At James Valley, he does an annual clean-a-thon where he helps walk to pick up trash in over 50 miles of ditches. Agriculture is Jerrad's connection to his family and community. He has been working alongside his father and brother on their farm for as long as he can remember. With his family being involved in agriculture, he has been able to spend time with multiple generations of his family. Every day is different on the farm, and he enjoys the variety of work and challenges it brings. Jerrad plans to attend college and ultimately return to his farm. In a recent episode of MC Fireside Chats, hosted by Brian Searl, an insightful discussion unfolded featuring Greg Wallman, Owner and President of Space Craft; Devon Wilson, CEO and Founder of RV SnapPad; and Jeff Wertz, Product Business Manager at Spartan RV. The conversation provided a deep dive into the evolving RV and campground industries, touching on various technological advancements, market trends, and the challenges these sectors face in keeping up with rapid growth and innovation. Greg Wallman began by highlighting the importance of technological integration in RVs and campgrounds. He emphasized the growing demand for reliable Wi-Fi and electrical infrastructure to support remote work and leisure activities. Wallman noted that many of their customers now live and work full-time in their RVs, which necessitates advanced networking capabilities. This trend is pushing manufacturers to innovate and adapt quickly to meet the evolving needs of RV users. Jeff Wertz from Spartan RV echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the critical role of information technology in the RV industry. He pointed out that even families are increasingly using RVs for extended travel while maintaining their work commitments. Wertz also discussed the growing interest in electric vehicles (EVs) and the integration of lithium batteries to extend boondocking capabilities. This shift towards more sustainable and efficient power solutions is a significant focus for manufacturers and chassis providers like Spartan RV. Devon Wilson of RV SnapPad added that the market is indeed getting younger, with more people embracing the flexibility of remote work. This demographic shift is driving demand for RVs equipped with modern conveniences and smart technologies. Wilson also shared his company's experience with artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in customer service. He described how RV SnapPad is leveraging AI to handle standard queries and improve customer interactions, though they remain cautious about over-reliance on technology, ensuring the human element remains a core part of their service. The conversation delved into specific innovations in RV design, with Wallman sharing some cutting-edge developments. He mentioned water makers that extract water from the air, advanced blackwater processing systems, and recycling showers designed for long-term sustainability. These innovations are particularly beneficial for boondocking, allowing RV users to stay off-grid for extended periods without sacrificing comfort or convenience. Jeff Wertz elaborated on the role of Spartan RV in supporting these technological advancements. He explained how the company is involved in integrating larger alternators and advanced power systems to support the increased electrical demands of modern RVs. Wertz also touched on the potential future integration of electric vehicle technology into RVs, noting the challenges and opportunities this presents, especially in balancing the need for large water tanks and other amenities with the space and weight constraints of EVs. Brian Searl, the host, steered the conversation towards future-proofing campgrounds. He inquired about the steps campground owners could take to stay ahead of the curve. Wallman and Wertz both agreed that investing in robust electrical infrastructure and reliable information technology is crucial. They emphasized that campers increasingly expect high-quality internet access and ample power for their devices, making these elements essential for attracting and retaining customers. The discussion also touched on the potential impact of AI and robotics on the RV and campground industries. Searl posed a thought-provoking question about the hypothetical scenario of employing robots if they could perform tasks perfectly tailored to the business's needs. Wallman and Wertz were open to the idea but highlighted the importance of validating the capabilities of such technology. Wilson, on the other hand, expressed a...

A winter heavy in snowfall has slowed the start to the wildfire season across parts of the West, although the return of the El Niño weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean could reverse that start and contribute to another smoky summer in the National Park System west of the Continental Divide. Climate change, coupled with the departure of the La Niña weather pattern over the Pacific Ocean and the arrival of the El Niño pattern, are making it more challenging to predict fire seasons and fire behavior from year to year.   Last year when we talked with James Wallman, a meteorologist in the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, he said fire managers don't know what the “new normal” in wildfire seasons and behavior is because “everything is still changing." With a somewhat slow start to the 2023 fire season in the Southwest, and drier weather patterns over the Northwest, what can we expect from this year's fire season across the National Park System? We'll be back in a minute with Mr. Wallman to see.

Discover how you can find more to life by having less. How often do we associate happiness with material possessions? Okay, maybe most of us understand that money can’t buy us happiness, but does that still deter us from wanting the latest model of that cool car, or the bigger house in the nicer neighborhood, or the latest television or cell phone? Our society has become ingrained into thinking that we need the newest models, some of us even believe success comes in the possessions that we hold. This has led to a destructive way of life which author James Wallman calls Stuffocation. As we accumulate material goods, we clutter our houses damaging our mental health and putting our lives in danger. Luckily, society is largely moving away from the consumerism of our past, but how can we become happier while still boosting our economy? Wallman has the solution to cure us of stuffocation while simultaneously contributing to the economy. Keep reading to find out how stuffocation can lead to serious mental illness, how we became so materialistic in the first place, and lastly, how to cure yourself and find a lifetime of peace and happiness. No matter what business you are in, the best way to connect with your customers is through the experience you provide them. However, connecting requires knowing what customers want, and today, that isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. The Experience Economy dictates that people value experiences over material things these days.  In addition to knowing what customers want, wouldn't it also be great to know what works in Customer Experience Management? Wouldn't it be even better to know what doesn't work before you waste your time and energy (and budget) trying it yourself? These ideas are the concept behind Customer Experience expert James Wallman, founder of the World Experience Organization (WXO). The WXO is a Customer Experience organization that encourages worldwide collaboration and debate on what is—and what isn't—critical to Customer Experiences.    Key Ideas to Improve your Customer Experience   Among other things, Wallman says the bid idea behind the WXO is to separate the useful CX concepts from the ones that are merely hot air. He hopes that the WXO will further legitimize the Experience Economic and CX movement, allow all the members to learn from each other, and see new ways to achieve customer engagement. Here are some highlights from our discussion.  03:28 Wallman explains the idea behind founding the WXO and why he did it.  05:08 Wallman describes the Experience Economy and how the WXO will help move it forward. 11:55 Wallman talks about how not having an organized and defined effort can delegitimize the CX movement.  18:06 Wallman discusses the reasons behind choosing CX pioneers to establish the WXO. 21:03 Colin explains how the human being is always at the center of the experience, no matter what type of experience it is. 23:49 Wallman shares his idea that we are all on a “Hero's Journey” and how those should look in a journey map.  30:50 We give the information on how what to do if you are interested in joining the WXO.  Please tell us how we are doing! She's also going to give us a glimpse into what's coming up in her writing, family, and dealing with it all in today's turbulent times.  Lake City Ninja Girl: Driven mad by poverty, the death of her father, and the ruthless streets of North Seattle’s Lake City, twelve-year-old Gabriela Urieta puts on her ski-mask at night and becomes Ninja Girl. In her own mind, she’s a superhero—the only hope for cleaning up her neighborhood. In reality, she’s a sixth-grader who drugs her little brother to sleep so she can sneak out at night and rob criminals.Using money taken from her victims, Gaby hires a transient as her sidekick, naming him “Wallman.” Together they get lost in her comic-book fantasy. But before long, Ninja Girl and her family find themselves in all sorts of danger. She’s small, she’s angry, she’s trained in mixed martial arts—and she’s only twelve.  Cait Moore, studied commerce and law in Australia and pursued her career in the capital markets in London.  Since she was knee high to a kangaroo, she’s harboured a deep love for the written word.  Her fervent belief in the “one” has led her to explore in her fiction, what binds two hearts and souls.   Hers, belongs to her husband, author, Michael J Moore.   Follow her at www.facebook.com/cait.moore.5477 and caitmoorewriting.wixsite.com/website. Social Mediacaitmoorewriting@gmail.comcaitmoorewriting.wixsite.com/websitehttps://www.facebook.com/cait.moore.5477  https://twitter.com/CaitMoore7https://instagram.com/caitmoorewriting Link to Book:https://www.amazon.com/Lake-City-Way-Ninja-Girl-ebook/dp/B085QPDN4R/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=cait+moore&qid=1591534210&sr=8-1https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53157674-lake-city-way-ninja-girl?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=igqpsvudem&rank=1

There are a handful of books which have genuinely inspired me to live a better life. I've always thought that the measure of a good book is not how many times it is read or even recommended, but how many times you gift it and share the wisdom with others. My guest on the podcast today is James Wallman, author of the groundbreaking book Stuffocation: Living More With Less. Stuffocation is one of those rare books that makes a lasting impact, is regularly re-read, and I'm pleased to gift to my friends. James is a journalist, trend forecaster, speaker, and author. He has written for GQ, the New York Times, the FT, and advised clients such as Absolut, BMW, Burberry, and Nike. James wrote the futurology column in T3 magazine and was editor of The Future Laboratory's forecasting publication. In Stuffocation, James shares intriguing insights on psychology, economics and culture, resulting in a vital manifesto for change. The book has inspired those who have read it to be happier and healthier, and to live more, with less. In today’s episode of Informed Choice Radio, I speak to James about defining Stuffocation, the mental and physical health consequences of having too much stuff, some of the barriers preventing people from experientialism, buying things to facilitate experiences, whether the tide is turning for consumerism, and much more. Welcome to Stuffocation with James Wallman, in episode 165 of Informed Choice Radio. Some questions I ask: -How would you define Stuffocation? -What was the inspiration behind writing this book? -Are there mental and physical health consequences from having too much stuff? -What are some of the main barriers preventing people from experientialism? -Is the tide turning for consumerism? -What are some of the future trends that most excite you? Minimalism, as James Wallman, author of Stuffocation, states is a practice. It's a conscious way of living that positively reinforces that you don't have to be rich to be an experimentalist. With James Wallman as our guest here on GluckRadio, we discuss the importance of having the right people in our lives as opposed to materialistic goods because after all, experience with the people who matter is what stays with us. Material goods are replaceable but people are, in essence, not. To find out more about how to de-clutter, check out James Wallmans book at www.stuffocation.org.

For those of us who spend a great deal of time outdoors it's hard to believe that there are many of those who don't. Especially when it comes to our national parks there is an entire segment of the United States population, natural born citizens who seldom if ever visit. This is particularly true among people of color. African-Americans, Hispanics and other ethnic minorities spend far less time in nature than their white counterparts. And in a shifting demographic where minorities will soon become the majority there's rising concern throughout the conservation movement that one day in the not so distant future most U.S. citizens will have no personal relationship with or affinity for the natural world. This concern is expressed most eloquently by National Park Ranger Shelton Johnson. The only permanent African-American ranger at Yosemite National Park his mission is to share with audiences, black and white, lessons of stewardship that illustrate the bond with nature that is every U.S. citizen's birth rite. An interpretive ranger that tells the story of the Buffalo Soldiers, African-American cavalrymen who projected Yosemite at the turn of last century, Johnson puts into context the importance of wilderness not merely as a point of national pride but an intrinsic value of what it mean to be human. At the biannual meeting of the Conservation Alliance at the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City Utah, Shelton Johnson was the keynote speaker. Best known for his prominent role in the Ken Burns documentary "The National Parks, America's Best Idea," he was also instrumental in bringing Yosemite Valley to the attention of leading black talk show host Oprah Winfrey. In a nationally televised visit to the park in 2010 Winfrey used her media clout to invite millions of minorities across the country to explore the great outdoors. In this unabridged audio recording Johnson is welcomed to the podium by Conservation Alliance executive director John Sterling. For 40 minutes Ranger Johnson inspired a rapt crowd with a message to encourage all people, regardless of race, to embrace the wonders of nature and to claim their inheritance of our national treasures  Music this week by the band Hot Buttered Rum The Joy Trip Project is brought with the support of our sponsor Patagonia.   Coverage of the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market was supported by Knupp, Watson & Wallman
