Roger answers viewer questions, shares his essay "Opportunist or Problem Solver?", and tells another story from the "Woulda Been Viral" files. In the essay, Roger takes on a criticism real estate investors hear all the time: that investors who buy distressed properties are opportunists—or even vultures—profiting from someone else's misfortune. But is that really what's happening? Or are investors often the people willing and able to solve problems no one else can? Then comes a story that would absolutely have gone viral if smartphones had been around. An older woman lost her house in foreclosure and appeared in court hunched over, walking with a cane. She lost the case, went home…and apparently found another gear. She proceeded to do tens of thousands of dollars in damage to the property. Windows smashed. Water heater ripped out and thrown into the driveway. The solid wood front door removed, tossed into the yard, and attacked with a crowbar. Then she got into a car the neighbors didn't even know worked—and disappeared. Two years later, a routine traffic stop caught up with her. She was arrested and ultimately convicted of felony property destruction. SSDs und Arbeitsspeicher sind weiter teuer, und wie die c't-Experten Christian Hirsch und Florian Müssig analysieren, wird das vorläufig so bleiben – und zwar nicht nur ein paar Wochen lang, sondern eher auf einige Jahre hinaus. Aber derart lange vorhandene PCs und Notebooks weiter zu nutzen und die Speicherkrise einfach auszusitzen, ist nicht für jeden praktikabel. Lässt sich ein Neukauf nicht weiter hinauszögern, sollten auch Gebrauchtgeräte in die Überlegungen einbezogen werden. In diesem Video-Podcast stellen wir Hardware-Empfehlungen zusammen und diskutieren Alternativen wie externe SSDs oder Aufrüsten. Auch warnen wir vor einigen Fallstricken, denn inzwischen ist auch der Gebrauchtmarkt ganz schön abgegrast. Die empfehlenswerten Gebrauchtgeräte sind Firmenrückläufer. Was nach drei Jahren abgeschrieben ist oder aus dem Leasing fällt, geht an Refurbisher, die sich um Details wie das Aufspielen gültiger Windows-Lizenzen kümmern. Aber weil auch die Firmen unter den gestiegenen Neupreisen leiden, nutzen viele die Geräte fünf Jahre und länger. Entsprechend ältere Geräte dominieren nun den Gebrauchtmarkt. In vieler Hinsicht ist das kein Risiko, weil wichtige Techniken wie schnelle Prozessoren, vollwertige USB-C-Ports und auch die Windows-11-Tauglichkeit seit vielen Jahren üblich sind. Aber Vorsicht ist dennoch geboten, da einige Händler nun auch die verstaubtesten Ladenhüter auf den Markt bringen. Und einige Details wie gute Mikrofone und Webcams kamen teils erst deutlich nach Corona in Mode und in die Firmengeräte. Christian und Florian geben weitere Tipps und erklären, warum auch die Gebrauchtpreise mit den Speicherpreisen steigen. Im Windows-Bereich sollte man Intel- oder AMD-Geräte kaufen. ARM/Qualcomm holt zwar auf, aber die guten Prozessoren sind im Gebrauchtmarkt noch nicht zu finden. Genau anders herum bei macOS: Für Intel geht die Unterstützung absehbar zurück, also sollte man gebrauchte Apple-Hardware nur mit M-Prozessoren kaufen – der M1 ist für vieles weiterhin schnell genug. Dem Aufrüsten – sowohl der eigenen Geräte als auch etwaigen nur zu schwachbrüstig gefundenen Gebrauchten – sind enge Grenzen gesetzt: Bei vielen Notebooks ist der Speicher fest aufgelötet, der Prozessor inzwischen immer. An die SSD-Module kommt man zwar bei manchen Modellen, aber fast alle Firmen-Notebooks vertragen nur ganz bestimmte Module. Die c't-Redakteure erklären, warum man dann nicht einmal herausfinden kann, welche Module das sind. Spannend in dieser Hinsicht sind die modularen und aufrüstfreudigen Notebooks vom Hersteller Framework. Diese durchaus erfolgreiche Firmenstrategie führt allerdings dazu, dass Framework im Gebrauchtmarkt kaum eine Rolle spielt. Die Zusammenhänge erläutert Florian. Besser sieht's bei Desktop-Rechnern aus. Passende RAM-Riegel und SSDs lassen sich einfacher finden, und mit etwas Vorplanung verträgt das Mainboard sogar noch ein paar neuere Prozessorgenerationen. Trotzdem empfehlen Christian und Florian, gebrauchte Notebooks und PCs komplett zu kaufen, vor allem aufgrund der Händlergewährleistung. Das ist auch der Hauptgrund, weswegen die c't-Redakteure vom Privatkauf abraten – oder man sollte sich zumindest der Risiken bewusst sein, auch in Bezug auf Verschmutzungen oder Windows-Lizenz. Zudem haben die Consumer-Baureihen inzwischen manchen technischen Fortschritt erst später bekommen als die Business-Baureihen. Ach, und wer Gaming-Grafik erwartet, der Podcast geht ausführlich drauf ein, aber die Kurzform ist: das gibt der Gebrauchtmarkt nicht her.

Almost every move golfers think of as a major fault (the flip, the shift off the ball, the trail leg thrusting forward) is actually the natural, athletic movement done at the wrong time, not the opposite of what good players do.The problem is that the instruction industry has spent years teaching the opposite. Take a player who flips and shaft-leans back, then tries to fix it by shoving the hands forward into 14 or 18 degrees of shaft lean, and you've sent them further from the truth, not closer. We get into why zero (or even 2 degrees back) is closer to the tour average than the extreme numbers golfers chase, why the rib-cracker and pinched-arm drills hurt more than they help, what Scott Hamilton says about taking shaft lean OUT of players, and why the club champions at every course are more lined up at impact than any of these forced positions. Big deal because it's the 11th most-downloaded package on PyPI (~1.2B downloads/month) and sits under Ansible, Certbot, Airflow, and paramiko. No PQ there, no PQ anywhere in Python. Trail of Bits did the work (Rust bindings, cross-backend API, tests, AWS-LC backend support), funded by the Sovereign Tech Agency. Timing tracks a June 22 White House order setting federal deadlines: PQ key establishment by end of 2030, PQ signatures by end of 2031. Not a drop-in swap — the wire sizes explode. ML-DSA-65 signatures are 3,309 bytes vs Ed25519's 64; ML-KEM-768 public keys are 1,184 bytes vs X25519's 32. Hardcoded field sizes and length prefixes will bite. API looks like the existing asymmetric primitives, except ML-KEM is encapsulate/decapsulate rather than a Diffie-Hellman exchange. SLH-DSA (the hash-based conservative backstop) is still in progress. The primitives are here, but protocols haven't caught up — so you won't be running post-quantum Certbot this week. Calvin #3: MCP goes stateless — and FastMCP gets renamed From Philipp Acsany over at Real Python The 2026-07-28 spec landed July 28 and the Python SDK shipped 2.0.0 the same day. Biggest rewrite since MCP launched, and it's breaking on purpose. Context for scale: the Tier 1 SDKs are pulling close to half a billion downloads a month, with TypeScript and Python each past a billion total. The headline is the stateless core. The initialize/initialized handshake and the Mcp-Session-Id header are both retired — protocol version, client identity, and capabilities now ride in _meta on every request, with an optional server/discover RPC if a client wants capabilities up front. Any request can land on any instance behind plain round-robin, no shared storage. Server-initiated calls are the hard part of the migration. Sampling, elicitation, and roots/list no longer call back to the client; instead the server returns resultType: "input_required" and the client retries with inputResponses attached. Multi Round-Trip Requests, MRTR. Also: Mcp-Method and Mcp-Name are now required headers so gateways route on headers instead of cracking JSON bodies, and missing-resource errors move to standard 32602. Deprecation sweep with an actual policy behind it — Roots, Sampling, Logging, and the legacy HTTP+SSE transport all deprecated with a twelve-month minimum offramp. Tasks graduated out of the experimental core into a real extension, which is what the formalized extensions framework was for. MCP Apps is now an official extension too, so a tool call can return sandboxed interactive HTML. Auth picked up RFC 9207 issuer validation, issuer-bound credentials, and a shift from DCR toward CIMD. Python SDK 2.0 is where it gets personal: FastMCP is now MCPServer, no alias, no shim. McpError → MCPError. Wire types went snake_case (is_error, input_schema) and moved to a standalone mcp_types package, with mcp.types kept as a permanent alias. One Client object replaces the old transport + ClientSession + initialize() stack. httpx became httpx2. Sync handlers run on worker threads now, so asyncio.get_running_loop() raises inside them. The good news: one MCPServer serves both protocol eras, so 2025-era clients keep working with nothing to configure, and a Resolve(fn) parameter lets one tool body cover MRTR and the old path. 1.x is maintenance-and-security-fixes only — pin mcp>=1.28,
