We are travelling to the year 1990 this time, and we arrive from down under. Under where? Under Tom Selleck's sexy Australian moustache, of course, while we check out his western drama, Quigley Down Under. QDU tells the tale of an American cowboy who heads to Australia for a job using his special skill, long-distance shooting. However, when he finds out he's been hired by a genocidal Rickman, he flips sides and declares war on the homicidal maniac and his gang to save the Aboriginals and fuck the crazy out of his female companion. But the big question is, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent debate moustaches down unda and a surprising lack of Australian accents as we try to figure out if we need this moustache ride or want this moustache to hide.

THE THESIS: The AP does not allow reporters to speak the truth, if that truth offends the Sexual Left. As proof of that, Independent journalist, Sue Lani Madsen got her weekly column spiked. It violated the AP Style Guide. Sue committed several thought crimes, starting with her refusal to pretend that an also-ran college swimmer named Will Thomas existed instead of making believe he has always been a “trans” “woman” named Lia. That was only her first thought crime. Sue Lani Madsen joined us to talk about what happened, how she pushed back and why she believes journalists take the knee to the gender-jackers. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Genesis 1: 26-28 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image,    in the image of God he created them;    male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”  Exodus 23:1 23 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.” THE NEWS & COMMENT: Here is the column Sue submitted, which was rejected because she refused to pretend swimmer Will Thomas never existed and that he has always been Lia.  Editor feedback: Lia Thomas and the NCAA; On how torturing language and denying reality makes civil debate impossible In the column, below, Sue calls out the destruction of reality being perpetrated by gender-jackers and their order-takers at The AP. I was praying to God this morning and just asking him when we will be reprieved from all of this darkness? I have to reflect on the events from the Bible. Nations and kingdoms over all time have gone down this same road we're on right now. I now understand why this has been called a Biblical time. And I wonder often how much longer will we have to endure these evil things. What you said today gives me hope that God will take us back! I truly appreciate the biblical truth you give on your shows. Thank you for all you do! God bless, Karlene ---   ---   --- Hey Todd, I've heard you mention your enjoyment of the movie Tombstone. Tony Bonner has a striking presence; he exudes abundant energy and maintenance of the matinee idol looks that propelled him onto an international career. His immediate fame came as chopper pilot Jerry King in the iconic television series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. The series became universally acclaimed and brought adoration for the cast. But Bonner’s extensive resume is more than Skippy. It boasts impressive work that spans several decades across stage, television and film platforms. The son of an actor, Bonner’s early forays in the theatre saw him commence work as a dresser for J.C. Williamson productions. It was not long before he was seduced by the stage and the colourful folk who graced it. Musicals with ‘The Firm’ included The Sentimental Bloke, The Great Waltz and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. As an award winning actor his television credits extend through Australia, the U.K. and USA. These have included Cop Shop, Homicide, Skyways, Hawaii Five-O, Murder She Wrote, The Persuaders, The Box, Matlock Police, Carson’s Law, Division 4, The Rockford Files and Neighbours. He has worked alongside and befriended screen legends Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, Paul Hogan, Charles Bronson, Tom Selleck and Roger Moore in an impressive list of films that include Soldier of Fortune, The Man From Snowy River, Creatures The World Forgot, Quigley Down Under and The Lighthorsemen. The prospect of Agent 007 may have come his way if not for the dogged demons that persisted in his early years.Tony Bonner is candid in his reflection. He is brutally honest in recalling the triumphs and troughs of a colourful life. And he tells it all with immense charm, humour and survival. The Stages podcast is available from Apple podcasts, Spotify, Whooshkaa and where all good podcasts are found.

William and Ralph were Irish-American brothers who immigrated from New York to Melbourne, Australia in 1886. Three years later they were producing their first beers for local consumption, and three years after that their brew became the first Australian beer export, sent to South Africa to bolster the spirits of the young men fighting in the Boer Wars. Shortly thereafter their brewery consolidated with Carlton & United Breweries who continued producing the brothers’ beer exclusively for sale in bottles, the only way it would be available until 1958 when it was first sold in cans. For most of that time today’s beer was the flagship beverage in the CUB line, until the early 1970s when it began to be exported to Britain and the United States. Through the 1980s CUB shifted the brand’s marketing and sales focus overseas, till by the 21st century it was almost impossible to find in Australia, but had become the second most popular beer in the United Kingdom. This growth was in no small part possible because of the craze for all things Australian in North America and Europe during the 1980s and 1990s, a craze fed by the Crocodile Dundee series of films, by Quigley Down Under, by the Mad Max films, Cheech Marin’s masterpiece Shrimp on the Barbie, and my personal favorite product of Australia, Yahoo Serious’ masterpiece Young Einstein. Today’s beer, however, finds itself in legal trouble over one little thing. Despite advertising itself as “Australian for beer,” only a small proportion of its output is actually brewed in the great Southern Continent and even less of it is consumed there. In Britain, its largest market, it is actually brewed in Manchester, while in the United States the quaff bubbles out of Fort Worth, Texas or Albany, Georgia, or in some northern climes, is imported from Canada – hell, it is also produced in China, France, Japan, Portugal, India, Ireland, Sweden, Vietnam and, yes, Australia. Now part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, a symbol of Australia barely consumed by Australians, today’s beer is one of the best symbols of globalization’s impact on the beer market, multinationalism in an oil can. That’s right, today on Pickled Eggs & Cold Beer we’re talking about Foster’s Lager. http://www.pickledeggsandcoldbeer.com FYI - Guys, this is a saucy one - normally we aim for about a PG-13 rating, but this one has a little more language than usual, some references to sex, and around 45 repetitions of the enternal punchline "that's what she said." Bear that in mind before listening to this one around whippersnappers or folks who are a bit more sensitive about potty language and naughty thoughts. Cheers!

For Bob Cornuke, that person was Jim Irwin who had been to the moon and back and had a cathartic moment while seeing the earth from space. Their first of many expeditions started with the search for Noah’s Ark. More expeditions followed and eventually, it led him to write books. Storytelling, Bob shares, is a skill set that he’s never tapped into as a young man. He likes to encourage people to take advantage of every season of their lives and try to find those things they have buried deep inside of them. The only way of finding and tapping buried skill sets is challenging yourself and going out on a limb sometimes. For Bob, it was writing, and now he’s doing it as a profession. Watch the episode: Listen to the podcast: Tapping Buried Skill Sets: Living The Life You Were Truly Meant To Live with Bob Cornuke We have something a little unusual. I’m sitting in the living room of (http://www.baseinstitute.org/) . Bob, it’s a lovely day in Colorado. Thanks for the hospitality. Thanks for having me on your podcast. We’re sitting in the living room. I have a buffalo head behind me with a Sharps ‘52 carried by one of Bob’s family members or built by Bob’s family members. Actually, I’m the great, great grandson of Christian Sharps. If you saw Quigley Down Under, that’s a Sharp rifle, a true grit. I am the great, great grandson of Christian Sharps. I’ll make sure I behave. Behave yourself. We’re sitting here, we have this beautiful day. We’re overlooking a pond and part of a golf course. I’m going to take in, go off-grid, and let you explore and talk to some of the folks about what it is that you do and what gets you going down this path. It’s certainly not a place I’d ever expect to go to in my life. Early on, I received a football scholarship at Fresno State early on, and then had a real desire to be in law enforcement. After college, I got involved with the Costa Mesa Police Department. I was about ten years on the department and an FBI-trained homicide investigator for the department. Then I got in a bad shoot out and the man died. I came out here to Colorado and was doing some fly fishing with my brother, Paul Cornuke, and he was an air traffic controller out here. I fell in love with Colorado immediately. From LA and Orange County and the traffic, and especially after the shooting, I said, “I’ve had a nice experience in law enforcement and I’m seeing all the older guys straining to retirement, not liking the job, and complaining about everything.” I didn’t want to be that. I thought it was a good time to step away from law enforcement and try some new challenges in life. I came out to Colorado and I got involved with real estate development and within a few years I had 125 employees in three offices and made partnership with my brother Paul. He left air traffic control. To date, he’s very successful in real estate. He has 1,900 employees now in Florida. He’s doing quite well. We got into real estate, did well together, a good partnership, and meshed really well, but during that process, I met a man named Jim Irwin, who is the eighth man to walk on the moon, the first one to drive the car on the moon. In our lives, we often are influenced by two things. The two main things are the books we read and the people we meet. Those two things set us off in a new direction, and we always have that influential person or a few in our lives that are so influential that they take this in a new direction. Jim had been to the moon and when he came back, he had a real desire to go find lost locations in the Bible of all things. He

It's a Magnum P.I. Reunion! Tom Selleck Joins the Show!Thomas William "Tom" Selleck (born January 29, 1945) is an American actor and film producer. He is best known for his starring role as the private investigator Thomas Magnum in the television series Magnum, P.I. (1980 to 1988), based in Hawaii. He also plays Police Chief Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker novels. Since 2010, he has appeared as NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in the drama Blue Bloods on CBS-TV.Selleck has appeared in more than fifty film and television roles since his initial success with Magnum, P.I., including a co-starring role in the highest-grossing movie of 1987, Three Men and a Baby; Quigley Down Under; Mr. Baseball; and Lassiter, to name a few. Selleck has also appeared as Dr. Richard Burke on Friends, where he played the on-again, off-again love-interest of Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), and A.J. Cooper on Las Vegas.Early lifeSelleck was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Martha S. (née Jagger), a housewife, and Robert Dean Selleck (died 2001), who was an executive and real estate investor. His father was of English and distant German ancestry, and his mother was of English descent. Selleck's family moved to Sherman Oaks, California, during his childhood. Tom's siblings include brother Robert (born 1944), sister Martha (born 1953) and brother Daniel (born 1955). Selleck graduated from Grant High School, in 1962.Along with modeling, Selleck attended the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship where he played for the USC Trojans men's basketball team. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and a member of the Trojan Knights. While he majored in business administration, a drama coach suggested Selleck try acting. He then studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, under Milton Katselas.Selleck served as a soldier in the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California Army National Guard and his unit was activated for the Watts Riots in Los Angeles.CareerEarly work and Magnum P.I.Selleck's first TV appearance was as a college senior on The Dating Game in 1965, and again in 1967. Soon after, he appeared in commercials for products such as Pepsi-Cola.He began his career with bit parts in smaller movies, including Myra Breckinridge and The Seven Minutes. He also appeared in number of TV series, mini-series and TV movies. Selleck also had a recurring role in the 1970s as "too good to be true" private investigator Lance White in The Rockford Files. Lance was very trusting and always lucky, much to the annoyance of Jim Rockford, the show's star private eye played by James Garner. White would frequently say to Rockford, "Don't worry Jim, clues will turn up" and then a clue would just turn up, much to Rockford's consternation, for whom obtaining clues required hard work and hard knocks. Selleck's character was based on one played in Garner's earlier TV series Maverick (1957) by Wayde Preston in the episode "The Saga of Waco Williams".Selleck, an accessible but relatively untested actor, spent years receiving little interest from the entertainment industry. His big break came when he was cast in the lead role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I.. The producers would not release the actor for other projects, so Selleck had to pass on the equally enticing film project for the role of Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark", which then went to rising star Harrison Ford. The choice between the roles of Indiana Jones and Magnum actually haunted Selleck so much that before making the decision, he consulted his best friend on what to do. Together they came to the conclusion taking the high road and honoring the first contract with Universal Studios was the career-savvy direction. It turned out shooting of the pilot for Magnum was delayed for over six months by a writers' strike, which would have enabled him to complete "Raiders".FilmSelleck starred in the 1979 TV movie Concrete Cowboys with Jerry Reed. He starred in a number of film roles during and after Magnum; among the most notable were as an acrophobic police detective in Runaway; as a stand-in father in Three Men and a Baby; and as an American 19th century sharpshooter in the Australian western Quigley Down Under – a role and film that he considers one of his best. His other films include Three Men and a Little Lady; High Road to China; Lassiter; Coma; Her Alibi; An Innocent Man; Folks!; Christopher Columbus: The Discovery; Mr. Baseball; In & Out and The Love Letter.Selleck is an avid outdoorsman, and a marksman and knowledgeable firearms collector. These interests led him to leading-man cowboy roles in Western films, starting with his role as cowboy and frontier marshal Orrin Sackett in the 1979 film The Sacketts, opposite Sam Elliott, Jeff Osterhage, and Western legendsGlenn Ford and Ben Johnson. He followed The Sacketts with The Shadow Riders in 1982, then portraying a cat burglar in 1930s London in Lassiter in 1984.Quigley Down Under is probably one of his best known Western films, however he also won a "Western Heritage Award" for his 1997 role in Last Stand at Sabre River. His last two cowboy roles to date were in the 2001 TNT movie Crossfire Trail (based on a Louis L'Amour novel of the same name), and the 2003 motion picture Monte Walsh. He most recently appeared in the film Killers, along with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.TelevisionMagnum P.I.Selleck played the role of Thomas Magnum in 1980 after six failed TV pilots. Magnum was a former U.S. Navy Officer, a veteran of a special operations unit in the Vietnam War, who had resigned his commission with the Office of Naval Intelligence and become a private investigator living in Hawaii. The show would go on for eight seasons and 162 episodes until 1988, winning him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1984. Selleck was famous for his mustache, a Hawaiian-style aloha shirt, a Detroit Tigers baseball cap, and the Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP Caliber pistol his character carried. Magnum drove a Ferrari 308GTSi in the series. The model became so identified with the role that Ferrari fans now refer to the red-painted model as a "Magnum" Ferrari.Selleck has confirmed that he is the most popular choice by fans to play the role of Magnum in the rumoured upcoming Magnum P.I. movie.FriendsIn the late nineties, Selleck played the role of Richard Burke, Monica's boyfriend, at the end of the second season of the hugely successful TV series Friends. Richard was a divorced ophthalmologist who was a friend of Monica's parents, and at first the relationship was hidden from her parents. The relationship eventually ended over Richard's reluctance to commit to raising a family, though Selleck did make a few extra appearances in later shows. The CloserIn February 1998, Selleck accepted the lead role in a sitcom for CBS called The Closer. In it he played Jack McLaren, a legendary publicist heading up a brand new marketing firm. His costars included Ed Asner, David Krumholtz, and Penelope Ann Miller. Despite the high pedigree, and the expectations for his first series since Magnum, P. I., low ratings caused the show to be canceled after ten episodes.Jesse Stone seriesSince 2005, Selleck has starred in the role of transplanted lawman Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on Robert B. Parker's novels. To date, the series comprises eight films, with the most recent released on May 20, 2012. In addition to his portrayal of the films' protagonist, Selleck now also acts as producer for the series. The fifth film, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, was not adapted from Parker's novels, but rather an original story by Selleck.Las VegasHe joined the cast of the NBC drama Las Vegas in the season-five premiere on September 28, 2007. He played A.J. Cooper, the new owner of the Montecito Casino. He replaced James Caanwho left the cast in the same episode. This was Selleck's first regular role on a drama show since he played Thomas Magnum on Magnum, P.I..Blue BloodsBlue Bloods is an American police procedural/drama series on CBS, filmed on location in New York City. Frank Reagan (Selleck) is the Police Commissioner; the series follows the Reagan family of police officers with the New York City Police Department. The show premiered on September 24, 2010.Other workSelleck has also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies in recent years. In particular, he has sought to help bring back to popularity the western, often playing one of that genre's typical characters but thrust into a modern context.Selleck was offered the lead role of Mitch Buchannon in Baywatch, but turned down the role because he did not want to be seen as a sex symbol. The role eventually went to David Hasselhoff.Surprising many of his fans, Selleck unexpectedly played the role of General Dwight D. Eisenhower in A&E's 2004 made-for-TV movie Ike: Countdown to D-Day. The movie showed the planning, politics, and preparation for the 1944 Invasion of Normandy, and Selleck was critically lauded for playing a cool, calm Eisenhower.Selleck appeared in a recurring role on the acclaimed ABC drama Boston Legal as Ivan Tiggs—the troubled ex-husband of Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen)—and as novelist Robert B. Parker's character Jesse Stone in several CBS made-for-TV movies, earning a 2007 Emmy nomination for Jesse Stone: Sea Change.BroadwayIn 2001, Selleck played the lead role of Murray in a Broadway revival of Herb Gardner's comedic play A Thousand Clowns. It ran for only two months. Critics, though far from uniformly negative about Selleck's performance, generally compared it unfavorably to that of Jason Robards, Jr., who won awards in the 1960s for playing the character on the stage and in a movie version. (It remains the role with which Robards is most identified.) Playwright Gardner, however, actually preferred Selleck to Robards in the part, and even said that Selleck was the way he had always envisioned Murray.

This episode of Convicted Cinephiles heads to Australia as our friend and Aussie-Canadian Drex joins the panel for an all Aussie movie cast. The guys geek out about Star Wars, Drex is majorly unimpressed with the new Terminator trailer and Matty is subjected to watching yet another soul crushing face stabbing scene in a movie.   These are our Staff Picks of the week!   Michaela brings a film that started as a short film and got the push to become a feature film called Dear White People. The film start Tyler James Williams, who got his start on Chris Rock's Everybody Hates Chris and is now on The Walking Dead. This film was a big hit at this year's Toronto International Film Festival and was a a definite win in Michaela's opinion.   Matty has some good and bad this week. The good is Jon Favreau's Chef, a fun comedy that has a lot of great appearances from stars like Scarlet Johansson and Dustin Hoffman. The bad was a little painful to Stevil. Unfortunately, Matty hated Kevin Smith's latest offering, Tusk, With an unlikable lead and terrible Canadian accents and stereotypes, Michael Parks performance wasn't enough to save this film.   Stevil needed some light fare after some of the harsher viewings on this podcast and all the Game of Thrones he was taking in, so Melissa McCarthy's Tammy was the comedy he decided to throw on. A completely unlikable title character with little redeeming qualities and a mediocre story line muddle this film until a slightly acceptable resolution and ending make this film an uneven lame duck.   Drex does NOT like Gwyneth Paltrow. He makes no secret about it and will gladly tell you his reasons. So, the movies he would like to bring to the cast are the rare gems in which the former Mrs. Coldplay bites the dust In conclusion, go see Seven and Contagion!   For the main subject of our episode on Aussie films, our panel explains why they made their choices:   "For the Aussie Cast I decided to go with Muriel's Wedding. Although I had never seen it, it stars one of my favourite actresses, Toni Collette, and looked pretty funny. I was not disappointed. This movie is totally off the wall, switching between comedy and tragedy at breakneck speeds. Collette is lovable as Muriel (Mariel) and the Abba soundtrack is totally awesome. If you have yet to see this film, delay no longer!" - @avidcinephile   "I was in the mood for a western, plain and simple. And I wanted to bring the mighty 'stach that is Selleck. But unfortunately Quigley Down Under isn't Australian made (little did I know Drex was bringing the mightiest mustache in Australia). So I went with The Propostion. This brutal tale of redemption in lawless lands, is a visceral and visual masterpiece. From the mind of Nick Cave and with direction from John Hillcoat you will not be disappointed with this honest western." - @mattydub604   "Channeling my good friend @demigodrob, I thought I'd bring another Criterion film to this Aussie cast with Walkabout. This film is both arresting in it's beauty and a nightmare that will keep you far, far away from the Australian outback. With the insane start to this film and exactly how these two children get left to their own devices in this deadly landscape, this film left a definite impression on me."  - @thestevildead   @drex is incredibly Australian, even after having been in Canada for five plus years, so his pick for the episode, The Club, is also VERY Australian. He also likes Stevil to write for him and he thinks Stevil is the greatest person he has ever met.   What is your favorite Australian made film? Do you or did you enjoy our picks?
