Thirty years ago this November, a brand new James Bond took the world by storm and he was played by Pierce Brosnan. Only eight years after the former television star of "Remington Steele" was initially set to take on the role but then couldn't because of unexpected issues with his former network, a man who seemed born to play 007 was finally able to take on the role. And this time around, Bond had a new actress playing his boss M, none other than Oscar-winner Dame Judi Dench. Not only that, but also some promising new villains played by Sean Bean (Fellowship of the Ring, The Martian, Game of Thrones) and Famke Janssen (X-Men, Rounders). AND a brand new director from New Zealand who cut his teeth on British television, Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro, Green Lantern, Casino Royale) helming his first big budget feature film for the first time. And everybody loved it? Let's head back to the mid '90's for the first post-Cold War reboot of one of the most enduring franchises in cinema history..... Send us a textTyrion and company are all but sunk by a fearsome storm after being becalmed for weeks. Be careful what you wish for. They're rescued by, what even the nose-less can tell is a slave-ship. Mackelly and Simon move things from the frying pan into the fire.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister, Penny, and Jorah Mormont are still aboard the Selaesori Qhoran AKA “the Stinky Steward.” It's been becalmed for nearly two weeks and the sailors are beginning to question if Tyrion and Penny are actually lucky. They are also eyeing Pretty Pig with hungry looks. To distract and amuse them, Tyrion agrees to joust with Penny. He's kind of hopeless, but she points out that that is rather the point. Afterward, he goads Mormont about his plans for Tyrion and Daenerys until the knight knocks Tyrion's tooth out. A pyrrhic victory right there. Finally a wind picks up, but it portends an almighty storm and Moqorro admits that the ship was never going to reach Qarth, not because it was going to redirect to Meereen, but because this storm was going to destroy it. The storm is immense and the ships is ruined. It comes through still afloat but with no mast, no Moqorro, flooded lower sections, and no hope of survival. But a ship is spotted headed their way. Unfortunately, as it nears Mormont is able to guess from the stench that it is a slave ship.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister whom he murdered. Brother to queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister. Former Hand of the King.Ser Jorah Mormont - Twice-disgraced knight of the Seven Kingdoms. In love with Daenerys Targaryen.Benerro - High priest of R'hllor in Volantis.Moqorro - Priest of R'hllor.Penny - Dwarf who performed at Joffrey's wedding. Her brother Oppo was murdered. Selaesori Qhoran - Trading cog. The ugliest ship Tyrion has ever seen. Does it dry up like A Game of Thrones in the sun? Or fester like A Wise Man's Fear, and then run? Clare and Hannah talk about book series that authors have left unfinished, and the repercussions of that. Should authors be obligated to finish their stories? Should Patrick Rothfuss and George R.R. Martin be locked in a remote cabin together until they finish their series that have gone fifteen years without their concluding volumes? Would it be going too far to hire Kathy Bates to loom over the two authors while menacingly wielding a sledgehammer? We'd love to hear your thoughts! Send us a textJon sends Val to Tormund Giantsbane with terms. In a shocking turn of events, Jon's advisers disagree with the plan. Simon and Mackelly would like to remind Jon, well his advisers actually, of what befell Janos Slynt, and why.Chapter Review:Lord Commander Jon Snow escorts Val through the Wall. She's headed north to find Tormund Giantsbane and offer him safe passage through the Wall if he'll follow the expected rules - don't kill everyone and help defend the Wall. They don't like to complain about everything, but the men are grumbling. They don't want Leathers as the new Master-at-Arms, nor Satin as Jon's steward. Jon doesn't care. They don't like Val's mission. Jon doesn't care. They don't think more Wildlings should be admitted. Jon doesn't care. They worry about Jon's (as yet unspoken) plans for Hardhome, a haunted town north of the Wall where it is rumored that the refugee free folk are amassing. Athens, Sparta, Thebes, and their neighbors fought a seemingly endless series of civil wars worthy of Westeros. But just like the War of Five Kings, Greece should have been more concerned with uniting against a greater threat massing to the North - one capable of conquering or enslaving them all. This is a grand story of deeds as infamous as the Red Wedding, as heroically selfless as Dunk or Brienne, and as disturbing as the worst Targaryen incest or Bolton torture.HoW Audience Survey - bit.ly/howsurveyBonus Eps & More - patreon.com/historyofwesterosShirts & Stickers - historyofwesteros.threadless.comwww.historyofwesteros.comIntro/Maps - klaradox.deFacebook Group - bit.ly/howfbDiscord - bit.ly/howdiscordNina - goodqueenaly.tumblr.com/

Before he was Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones or the commanding presence of The Jewel in the Crown, Charles Dance was a boy from Worcestershire whose father died when he was three and whose mother built a new life for the family, remarried to their lodger. A childhood marked by loss, a stammer and humble beginnings gave little hint of the commanding actor he would become. In this episode of Full Disclosure, James O'Brien sits down with the Emmy-nominated actor to trace an extraordinary journey from working-class Devon to the stages of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Hollywood sets alongside Meryl Streep, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maggie Smith. Dance reveals how two eccentric mentors in rural Devon taught him to speak, act and think like an actor, and why, even now at 79, he still considers himself a “working actor” rather than a star. It's an intimate, reflective conversation about identity, perseverance, class, craft and the enduring magic of the stage- told with the wit and humility of a man who's seen it all and still can't quite believe his luck.

Also, ganz viel Spaß! In zwei Wochen bin ich dann aber auch wieder ganz normal zurück mit einer neuen Folge Deutschland3000. Übrigens auch was für Fans von einer bestimmten Serie: Eine Schauspielerin wird bei mir zu Gast sein. So viel verrate ich schon mal. Jetzt aber erst mal viel Spaß mit „Battle of the Nerds“. Habt ihr Lust bekommen? Ab jetzt gibt es in den nächsten vier Wochen jeden Donnerstag eine neue Folge: https://1.ard.de/BattleOfTheNerds

This week, Da7e and Neil continue the prep phase of their Derry era as they get closer to the premiere of Welcome to Derry on HBO at the end of the month. Which means it's time to talk about It: Chapter Two (2019). In The Calm [04:14], they discuss the performances of the adult actors, the film's densely-packed and clunky plot, and highlight some deleted scenes from this movie that could prove to be important for the upcoming series. They also highlight the early work of one of the stars of Alien: Earth. Then in The Storm [01:01:26], Da7e shares everything he knows about Welcome to Derry season one with six days to go before its premiere. Then Neil lays out a list of questions he expects the show to answer in its eight episode run. Next week, Welcome to Derry begins airing on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday night. Then on Monday, your faithful hosts will be in your feeds with more Calm, more Storm, and plenty of other fun business. To interact with the show, send your comments and questions to stormofspoilers@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter/X and Bluesky @Da7eandNeil. Drawing on insights from Sophia Dembling's Introverts in Love, she highlights how different temperaments can complement or challenge each other, showing that mutual respect, communication, and compromise matter more than personality labels. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://introvertdear.com/news/introverts-should-you-marry-an-introvert-or-an-extrovert/ Quotes to ponder: “Sometimes it's hard for extroverts to understand that you don't need quiet time to get away from them, but because you need quiet time. It's not personal.” “You are likely to enjoy similar activities, whether they're long hikes, listening only to birds, long evenings on the couch with a book, or long weekends in the house binge-watching Game of Thrones.” “It's important that introverts understand that it is our responsibility to articulate our needs. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Send us a textAreo Hotah watches as the skull of the Mountain is presented to Prince Doran Martell. Finally peace between Dorne and the Iron Throne, predicted no one, ever. Mackelly and Simon roll out the barbed wire and start digging the trenches.Chapter Review:In the Old Palace of Sunspear, Areo Hotah watches as Maester Caleotte delivers an ebony chest to Prince Doran Martell. Inside is the skull of Gregor Clegane, which Obara Sand places on a marble pedestal. Doran declares that “the Mountain rides no more.” Ser Balon Swann, there on behalf of Queen Cersei, is made uneasy by the spicy food, the politics, and Princess Arianne's careful attention.Cersei's letter requests that Myrcella visit King's Landing, with Trystane to accompany her and Doran to take Oberyn's seat on the small council. Doran suggests they travel by ship, and Balon's reluctance to travel by sea does not go unnoticed. After the feast, Doran gathers Obara, Nymeria, Tyene, Arianne, Ellaria, and Hotah in his solar. Ellaria breaks at the Sand Snakes' refusal to accept the end of the blood feud with the Lannisters, rejecting the endless cycle of vengeance. When she leaves, the Sand Snakes demand war, but Doran forces them to swear obedience before revealing that Cersei's invitation is a trap meant to kill Trystane on the road. Instead of violating guest right by killing Swann, Doran assigns each Sand Snake a role: Obara will lead Swann to hunt Darkstar, Nymeria will escort Myrcella to court and take the small council seat, and Tyene will infiltrate the Sept of Baelor. Arianne will remain in Sunspear as his heir. As plans move forward, Dorne prepares to strike back its own way.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Areo Hotah - Captain in Prince Doran Martell's service.Prince Doran Martell - Infirmed ruler of Dorne.Princess Arianne Martell - Princess of Dorne. While Peter Thiel obsesses over the Anti-Christ, his company Palantir has been busy building America's Orwellian Big Brother, which began under Trump's first term and was allowed to continue under Biden. Under Trump's second term, Thiel's Palantir has rapidly expanded into nearly every corner of the U.S. government. A recent New York Times investigation detailed how Palantir's data-mining empire powers law enforcement and intelligence agencies to track, profile, and monitor not just criminal networks, but potentially spy on American citizens. Thiel likes to posture as a radical outsider, but through Palantir he's shaping the machinery of the state to establish a tech-backed dictatorship. In Part Two of our conversation with journalist Gil Duran, of the essential Nerd Reich newsletter, we dig into the tech coup, what it means for democracy, and why it matters that a billionaire obsessed with the apocalypse is also building the digital panopticon. We also discuss what happens when Trump dies and MAGA faces a Game of Thrones succession battle? Why don't we have a strong opposition? How do we build one? How do we create real solidarity instead of the weak attempts by some Democratic leaders to “negotiate” with fascists? (There's no negotiating with fascists.) How do we establish our own fifty year plan to rebuild democracy? Want to hear Gaslit Nation ad-free? On this episode of the MalloryBros. podcast, the Bros. start with a usual weekend recap. Terrance met our sister's new cat, and they both have thoughts on these new Wendy's Tenders. They then get into quite literally the most unhinged random debate about The Lion King you'll ever see, you should be thoroughly entertained. Next they talk the biggest news of the week: Drake losing his lawsuit with UMG over Kendrick Lamar's “Not Like Us.” The guys talk Drake's next move, Iceman, and if it was worth it. They then take a film turn, discussing "One Battle After Another" flopping at the box office despite rave reviews, what that means, and how it compares to Sinners. The Bros. move on to the new Game of Thrones spinoff and ask if they even care, touching on audience fatigue with short seasons and long waits between them. After a week where he seemed more passive about AI, Terrance gets tricked by an AI video and changes his tune. They then talk LeBron's Hennessy deal, and Terrell highlights the growing issue of too many Black millionaires selling us alcohol. A Lil Wayne conversation about changing his diet sparks a great talk about how people will hold you accountable to the patterns you create. They close out with football talk as Terrance's game is literally happening during the pod.
This week, Da7e and Neil return to your feeds to kick off their Derry era as they prepare for the arrival of Welcome to Derry on HBO at the end of the month. They begin their journey with a rewatch of 2017's It: Chapter One. In The Calm [04:26], they discuss how the film was developed by Cary Fukunaga before ultimately landing in the hands of Andy Muschietti. They explore the adaptation choices that led to more of Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise ending up on screen, chart the timeline of the Derry's horrific history, and highlight what elements of the book were left out. Then in The Storm [01:15:38], Da7e breaks down the red band trailer for Welcome to Derry. Next week, the pod heads back to Derry for 2019's It: Chapter Two and a final preview of everything we know about Welcome to Derry prior to its debut.
