'World War Jew': How Israel's antisemitism conference became a far-right populist rally

For the right-wing populist political leaders who gathered in Jerusalem for the Netanyahu government’s second International Conference on Combating Antisemitism this week, the formula for fighting Jew hatred is simple, according to Haaretz correspondent Linda Dayan, who attended and reported on the two-day event. Organized by the Diaspora Affairs Ministry led by far-right Likud MK Amichai Chikli, Dayan tells the Haaretz Podcast that the message of the majority of prominent speakers at the conference is that Jews “have one enemy” – radical Islam – “and that enemy is propped up by the woke left” with a shared agenda of destroying the West. Later on the podcast, Dayan – who has covered the protest movement in Israel for the return of the hostages led by their families since October 7 – reflected on the end of the struggle following the return of the final hostage’s remains earlier this week and the end of the vigil in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. The movement, she said, transcended politics; it was a deeper fight to preserve the national ethos of never leaving anyone behind. Dayan explained: “From the very beginning, you would hear in the speeches in the square that this isn't just a battle to return our daughters and sons and parents and grandparents. This is a battle for the values of the country – a battle for the version of the country we want our children to grow up in and we want the next generation to inherit.” Read more: Global Far Right Flocks to Jerusalem to Bash Muslims and Migration at Israel's Antisemitism Confab Netanyahu Claims There Is a Progressive/Muslim Plot to 'Destroy the West' at Israeli Government's Antisemitism Conference Why Charlie Kirk, Fan of Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories, Is Loved by Israel's Government Tel Aviv Clock Counting Hostages' Captivity Stopped Following Retrieval of Ran Gvili's Body Ran Gvili, Last Hostage to Be Returned From Gaza, Laid to Rest in IsraelSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, the final hostage that was kept in Gaza, is buried today. Last night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a wide-ranging press conference, during which he raised unusual allegations against the Biden administration. We hear from Berman about the mood in the room and the premier's two remaining foci -- dismantling Hamas’s weapons and demilitarizing Gaza of arms and tunnels. During the press conference, Berman asked Netanyahu about the changing rhetoric out of Saudi Arabia, which is increasingly aligning itself with actors such as Pakistan and Turkey. We learn what the premier had to say. Yesterday, International Holocaust Remembrance Day was observed across the world. January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation by Soviet forces of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the most notorious of the Nazi German death camps. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky marked the day at the Babyn Yar ravine outside of Kyiv, where Nazis and their collaborators murdered more than 33,000 Jews in a two-day rampage in 1941. Berman weighs in. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. A letter about the Nobel Peace Prize. A claim that America needs “complete and total control of Greenland.” And a war that almost started, then didn't. We follow the thread from ego-driven spectacle to real-world consequences, unpacking how image-making can bend strategy and endanger lives. We begin with the Greenland fixation and why it fails every basic test of strategy. Greenland is already protected under NATO via Denmark, and the specter of a Chinese or Russian occupation collapses under logistics and alliance math. So what's left? Legacy. The urge to redraw the map and be remembered becomes a risky compass when it steers policy toward symbolic victories over coherent national interest. From there, the focus shifts to Iran and a night when airspace closed, assets moved, and insiders braced for impact. The order never came. Not because escalation was unthinkable, but because defenses were thin and retaliation looked imminent. Reports point to Netanyahu's warning and U.S. readiness gaps as decisive. That's sobering: it implies delay, not de-escalation, while carriers, interceptors, and air wings redeploy. We also dig into Lindsey Graham's fury at Gulf allies who want to avoid turning their own bases and ports into targets—a reminder that geography and self-preservation shape their decisions more than Washington talking points. Back home, we trace the money and the megaphone. Miriam Adelson's outsized influence, built on massive checks, highlights how single-issue loyalty can purchase foreign-policy outcomes. Pam Bondi's boasts about unprecedented DOJ actions on campus “anti-Semitism” expose the dangerous slide from policing threats to policing dissent. When pro-Palestinian protest and criticism of U.S.-Israel policy are rebranded as bigotry, federal power becomes a cudgel against speech rather than a shield for it. We close with a regime change reality check. Dinesh D'Souza's nostalgia for post-WWII “success” meets Dave Smith's rebuttal: those outcomes were born of total war, mass death, and decades of occupation—conditions America will not, and should not, reproduce. Swapping in “friendlier thugs” isn't strategy; it's a recipe for failed states, insurgency, and endless costs. If this breakdown helps you see the stakes more clearly, subscribe, share the show, and leave a review. What do you think is the biggest risk on the horizon: an Iran strike, a Greenland gambit, or the creeping crackdown on dissent?

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The Board of Peace launched on Thursday in Davos and is chaired for life by US President Donald Trump. It is beginning its work by addressing the Gaza conflict and at its launch, the US announced plans for a “New Gaza” rebuilt from scratch, to include residential towers, data centers and seaside resorts, part of US President Donald Trump’s push to advance an Israel-Hamas ceasefire shaken by repeated violations. We hear about Jared Kushner's vision for a "New Gaza" and the demilitarization of Gaza. The head of a transitional Palestinian committee backed by the US to temporarily administer Gaza, Ali Shaath, said on Thursday that the Rafah border crossing — effectively the sole route in or out of Gaza for nearly all of the more than 2 million people who live there — would open this week. We learn who will be manning the crossing and how involved the IDF will be. And finally, we discuss the increased involvement of the Palestinian Authority -- albeit in different garb and under changed names. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Why Palestinians in Gaza see Trump's Board of Peace as 'another form of occupation'

Palestinians in Gaza view a future of rule by U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly inaugurated Board of Peace as representing “another form of occupation” said Haaretz correspondent Nagham Zbeedat, speaking on the Haaretz Podcast. Zbeedat, who covers Palestinian affairs and the Arab world, said that Trump’s vision of an American-led international stabilization force – intended to replace Hamas after it disarms – is likely to be problematic. American “complicity and cooperation with the Israeli army” during the war means that for Palestinians, “the U.S. is the same as Israel. So any government or group that comes from the U.S. will not be welcomed with open arms.” In the short-term, Zbeedat said, the desperate humanitarian situation means that Gazans will “accept the circumstances that they are put in, as long as there are no more airstrikes, as long as food is on the shelves, and as long as there is water, shelter, clothes coming in, and medical care.” But overall, Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere are “not excited” about the Trump plan because of the lack of “any Palestinian presence or voice” at the decision-making level. Also on the podcast: Haaretz diplomatic correspondent Liza Rozovsky discusses the challenges ahead for the new Board of Peace – most prominently, the disinterest of major Western European countries in signing on. “When you are being squeezed and threatened by the U.S. over Greenland, it is pretty bad timing to be joining a Board of Peace chaired by Trump,” Rozovsky noted. For these countries, “giving up your veto power in the United Nations Security Council and just bowing to Trump is not a very attractive offer.” Read more: Trump's Board of Peace Finds Few Enthusiasts Among Palestinians in Gaza Israel's Netanyahu to Join Trump's Board of Peace Alongside Saudis, Qatar and Turkey Trump's Board of Peace Has European States Worried, but Most Refrain From Direct Criticism Trump's Gaza Board of Peace Aims to Rival UN, Charter Shows 'It Never Ended': As the World Moves On, For Gazans It's War as UsualSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Darrell Castle talks about President Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland presented earlier this week and the important issues surrounding the speech including Greenland, Iran, Gaza, Ukraine, and of course Minneapolis. Transcription / Notes TRUMP SPEAKS TO THE WEF Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 23rd day of January in the year of our Lord 2026. I will be talking about President Trump's speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland which was given on Wednesday of this week. I will also talk about some of the important issues surrounding that speech including Greenland, Iran, Gaza, Ukraine, and of course Minneapolis. Yes, President Trump traveled to Davos this week accompanied by a large U.S. delegation including Secretary of State Marco Rubio. California Governor Gavin Newscom was in attendance although not part of the US delegation. He was quick to gather a news event to question everything the President said. So, the President spoke for over an hour to the richest, most powerful, most pompous and self-important people in this world. He used the occasion to sign the Board of Peace Charter, officially launching a new international organization tasked with overseeing the peace process between Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza. Trump said as he signed, “This Board is the chance to be one of the most consequential bodies ever created, and it's my enormous honor to serve as its chairman.” Founding members of the board were in attendance including Bahrain, Morocco, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates. Missing was Bibi Netanyahu because he has an international warrant out for him and he would most likely have been arrested. Could the Board of Peace end up replacing the United Nations? President Trump seems to think so, “I wish the United Nations could do more. I wish we didn't need a Board of Peace. The UN just hasn't been very helpful. I'm a big fan of the UN's potential but it has never lived up to its potential.” Trump, despite his criticism, didn't call for the dissolution of the UN. I suppose he left that duty to me and I have been actively calling for its dissolution since about 1990 when I became associated with the Constitution Party. Many people agree with me but find it very difficult to say so. I supported Ron Paul's presidential campaigns partly because of his end the FED rhetoric and his criticism of international bodies such as the UN. I fear that the Board of Peace will become just another bureaucracy but we will see whether it can really achieve peace in Gaza. The proposal calls for Hamas to lay down its arms which it has publicly refused to do. Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law presented a slide show detailing the architectural plans for the Gaza strip. I hope those plans include the Palestinians still alive but we will see. Perhaps they can find jobs in the fabulous hotels and resorts that are supposed to be built. In the meantime, the IDF has reportedly killed at least 466 Palestinians since the ceasefire started as well as 3 journalists one of whom worked for Bari Weiss the new head of news at CBS. When invited to speak at WEF Denmark announced that it would not be attending because of Trump's position on Greenland. Perhaps the Danes don't quite understand the art of the deal. He renounced any plans to acquire Greenland by force and worked out a deal with NATO to allow US use of Greenland and in return plans for tariffs on EU members were canceled. Trump believes, and it makes sense to me, that the US needs influence there as a hedge against long term adversaries in the Arctic like China and Russia, for example. He assured them that US acquisition of rights in Greenland was not only, not a threat to NATO but would greatly enhance the security of the alliance. He said the new agreement would involve the Danes with the Golden Dome, and mineral rights.  In case you don't know Golden Dome is a new missile defense system being built. Mark Rutte, the head of NATO, said after his meeting with Trump that the discussion about Greenland had changed. Now the discussion is about how the arctic region can be protected and secured. George Friedman is a geopolitical analyst of impeccable reputation and I have been a subscriber to his publication, Geopolitical Futures for many years. In regard to Greenland George said in his recent newsletter that he admitted for the first time he just could not explain or figure out something. He could not explain why Trump would place tariffs on NATO allies in order to acquire interest in Greenland. Now that Trump has lowered the temperature of the discussion the point may be moot but I think he does not have the same regard for the Europeans that many others have. In fact, I think this whole new Strategic Strategies Report that the administration just released is an announcement that the security agreement that has existed since World War ll has run its course and is now over. The US will consider its own hemisphere and its own defense first. In other words, this is all a continuation of the American Revolution which for 250 years has not been able to separate the American people from the European bankers. The bankers got their prize with the formation of the Federal Reserve which was formed to take control of the US financial system and keep the American people in debt slavery forever. The FED prints its own money and loans it to the US so it can be used to pay US interest on the debt that it has, thus 38 trillion debt and one trillion of interest. Take, for example, Mark Carney the Prime Minister of Canada. He is former governor of the Central Bank of England and former governor of the Central Bank of Canada and though in office, still associated with powerful banking and investment firms. That may be rambling a bit but it's still all very true. Trump went on in his speech with his usual carrot and stick approach. “Certain places in Europe are not even recognizable, frankly, anymore, they're not recognizable, and I love Europe, and I want to see Europe do good, but its not heading in the right direction.”  He mentioned his Scottish and German heritage and said the people of the United States care deeply about Europe. He used part of his time to tout what he called restoring the American dream. He mentioned his Executive Order to prevent Wall Street Corporations from buying single family homes thus driving up the cost of rent and making owning a home much more expensive. “Families live in homes, not corporations.” Well, amen to that quote Mr. President, that is exactly right. My approval of that action and the quote is not very libertarian but then I am not a libertarian. The US is not going to subsidize the whole world he told the assembled Davos men and women. Global tariffs were implemented to address the large trade deficits the US was experiencing adding that many countries were taking advantage of the United States. He went on to brag about the economic changes and success that he believes the US is experiencing. So, my conclusion is that he went to Davos to conclude a Greenland deal and to sign the Board of Peace agreement but mostly to explain himself to these people. Wars still rage in Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran. The one in Iran seems to be heating up again with the Ayatollah publicly admitting to over 5000 protesters killed. Many reporters from inside Iran report more than 10,000. The Ayatollah has taken a very hard line calling the uprising sedition and blaming the United States and Israel for it and threatening full scale war. Trump has ordered his military leaders to give him strike options that could be done so something is most likely coming. US strategic bombers have been seen over the Persian Gulf region. I said I would say a few words about Minneapolis so here they are. That city seems to be the tip of the iceberg that is the massive fraud being committed against the US government but mainly against the working, taxpaying Americans. If you work and a portion of your labor and money you need to feed your family is taken from you by the IRS apparently a good deal of that is used to feed the terrorists in Somalia and to line the pockets of politicians across America. The politicians look the other way and run interference for the fraudsters and they are then rewarded with millions of fraudulently acquired dollars. It seems that California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and others may even be bigger than Minnesota. You are certainly aware that ICE is in Minnesota trying to round up, arrest and deport illegal criminals but the politicians who have been receiving millions in bribes from the illegals have been protecting them and attacking ICE agents. I suppose they believe that if they scream loud enough we the people will join the criminals, but then who will pay the taxes. This disorder went so far as to involve an attack or at least a forced disruption of Sunday Services at a Baptist church called Cities Church in St. Paul. Yes former news reporter Don Lemon led the mob into the church and disrupted people who were worshiping God on a Sunday morning. Lemon gave a lot of sanctimonious words about how protest is protected by the 1st amendment. He is really attacking Christianity and trying to eliminate the right of Christians to worship freely which is sacrosanct in the 1st amendment. It seems that in Minnesota they really love and value sanctuary except when it involves places that actually are sanctuaries. Contrast my city of Memphis with Minneapolis and notice the difference. Memphis has now had two good mayors in a row and the difference is astounding. The mayor didn't want federal authority here but he said if it's coming let's cooperate and use it to benefit the city. The guard came to help with the street patrols so the MPD could do police work. ICE was here arresting illegal criminals as they found them. Two statistics illustrate the whole thing and the difference. Car left down 70% and murders down 44% and people can walk their own streets at least better than before criminals were allowed to take over our cities. Finally, folks, wither you hate Donald Trump or love him pray for peace. Our children will appreciate it. At least that's the way I see it, Until next time folks, This is Darrell Castle, Thanks for listening.

A historic reset is unfolding in 2026—and the stakes couldn't be higher. In this powerful episode of The Staksast, Erick Stakelbeck is joined by ambassador Yechiel Leiter, Israel's Ambassador to the United States, for a wide-ranging, no-spin breakdown of what's next for Israel, America, and the Middle East as massive protests spread across Iran.   Ambassador Leiter explains why the Iranian people—92 million strong—are rising up after decades under the boot of the mullahs, a regime that has starved its own citizens of basic necessities while funneling billions to terror proxies worldwide. If the ayatollahs fall, Leiter says, the ripple effects could be seismic—opening the door to a new era of regional peace… and maybe even something he calls the “Cyrus Accords.”   We also dig into: Why Iran's missile program isn't just regional—it's aimed at the United States How Iran funds its terror empire: Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis Behind the scenes of the Trump–Netanyahu Mar-a-Lago meeting The surprising new signals coming out of Damascus—and Israel's cautious talks with Syria The growing “Qatar over Israel” deception—and why Israel remains America's most reliable strategic partner This is a must-watch conversation about peace through strength, the battle against state-sponsored terror, and the future of Judeo-Christian civilization Learn more about your ad choices. On Monday's Mark Levin Show, the situation in Iran is dire for the Iranian people. Theres a holocaust taking place in Iran where the regime is brutally suppressing protests. The victims are primarily young people who simply want basic freedoms. Thousands are imprisoned, tortured, raped, summarily executed, or already dead with communications cut off.  America needs to act decisively against this seventh century barbarian regime. Meanwhile, Turkey's Erdogan is trying to wipe out the Kurds. Also, Qatar, Turkey, and Pakistan have been invited as Board of Peace members without Israel's prior knowledge. Benjamin Netanyahu firmly rejects allowing any of Qatar or Turkey's soldiers into Gaza. We ought to listen to the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel, which has repeatedly warned against trusting figures like Ambassador Tom Barrack and Erdogan. Rather than pressuring Netanyahu, the U.S. should heed Israel's cautions based on its long regional experience. Later, the unrest in cities like Minneapolis is not driven by ordinary Americans with grievances, but by Marxists, Islamists, illegal aliens, shadowy billionaires funding and organizing it, and foreign entities such as Qatar, Iran, and Communist China providing financial support while using bots and propagandists on social media. This is the enemy within already present in the country. Afterward, Richard Goldberg, Senior Adviser Foundation for Defense of Democracies, calls in and describes the ongoing brutal repression in Iran, including nightly protests clashing with regime forces, mass arrests, secret nighttime executions, torture, forced televised confessions, and families left searching for disappeared loved ones, while the members of uprising remain alive. He is convinced President Trump will act decisively against the regime, viewing him as the first U.S. president since 1979 to fully grasp and confront Iran's decades-long war on America. Finally, Mark Goldfeder, CEO of the National Jewish Advocacy Center, criticizes New York Mayor Mamdani's early decision to reverse an executive order adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which recognizes that certain forms of anti-Zionism can cross into antisemitism.  This rollback is disturbing and signals a deliberate reduction in protections for Jewish people and reflecting Mamdani's worldview. Why does support for Israel fuel antisemitism on the right, while criticism of Israel fuels it on the left? The Atlantic's Yair Rosenberg returns to explain what he calls the "no-win dynamic" of prejudice—where any argument can be twisted to justify hatred. Sarah and Beth talk with Yair about his recent research revealing a surprising generational shift: younger Americans are significantly more likely to express antisemitic views than older generations, and age matters more than political party. He unpacks why this is happening—from the fading memory of World War II to the culture of edginess and transgression online—and explains why it's so hard to distinguish "a punchline from a punch." The conversation also moves beyond Israel as symbol to Israel as actual country, exploring the upcoming election, Netanyahu's grip on power, the internal battles over university diversity programs and film funding, and why understanding these complexities matters for productive conversations about the Middle East. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Dozens of world leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin, received an invitation over the past week to sit on US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. The US is aiming to hold the board’s first meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday. In the meantime, various countries have reacted to their invitations to Thursday’s signing ceremony in Davos, including France’s President Emmanuel Macron. Horovitz fills us in on international responses, including shades of daylight between Netanyahu and Trump. In the hours after two babies lost their lives in an unlicensed and massively overcrowded daycare in the ultra-Orthodox Romema neighborhood of Jerusalem on Monday, Haredi leaders blamed the tragedy on the state and the legislative efforts to draft young men of the community. Two infants died and 53 babies and toddlers were injured to varying degrees in the incident. We speak about the avoidable nature of the tragedy, which, because of the prevalence of unsupervised daycare, could occur in any Israeli community at any time. And finally, regular listeners of The Daily Briefing will have missed their weekly dose of David Horovitz, who is just back from a three-week trip in Japan. We hear observations. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. As the Trump administration sends invitations to world leaders to join the Board of Peace overseeing Gaza, Magid discusses the various committees led by the board, which is headed by US President Donald Trump and is considered the oversight group for Gaza and all conflicts, a move that may also try and usurp the role of the United Nations. While other Board of Peace committees are being formed, Magid discusses Israel’s discomfort with planned representation from Turkey and Qatar, while the Trump administration views those countries as critical to getting Hamas on board for the ceasefire, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly opposed to their involvement. Menwhile, the appointed Palestinian technocrats on the NCAG, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, are currently sitting around in Cairo, reports Magid, awaiting civil servants approved by Israel. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. An Iranian official said this morning that authorities verified at least 5,000 people had been killed in protests in Iran, including about 500 security personnel, since December 28. According to a Sunday Times report citing an account put together by a network of Iranian doctors, the toll is more than 16,500 dead -- most under 30 -- and at least 330,000 people injured. Berman delves into the conflicting reports and updates us on what US President Donald Trump said Saturday. The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet on Saturday revealed the identities of several Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives killed in strikes across the Gaza Strip earlier in the week, which Israel said were carried out in response to a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire in western Rafah when gunmen opened fire at troops. With both sides claiming ceasefire violations, Berman reviews what a ceasefire entails. We also learn how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to reports that the executive board for Trump’s Board of Peace includes senior officials from Qatar and Turkey. Syria’s army took control of swathes of the country’s north over the weekend, dislodging Kurdish forces from territory over which they had held effective autonomy for more than a decade. President Ahmed al-Sharaa issued a decree declaring Kurdish a “national language” and granting the minority group official recognition. All this comes before the president is meant to speak with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Tuesday, as Germany seeks to step up deportations of Syrians. Is this the start of a great return to Syria? Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Netanyahu's Warning Was a Significant Factor in Trump's Decision Not to Attack Iran

Listen to the article with analysis from the author: A call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convinced President Donald Trump not to order an attack on Iran last week. Netanyahu was concerned that the attack would not be decisive, and Israel would be unable to repel an Iranian counterattack without more American military support. On Wednesday, American diplomats and military officials in the Middle East were convinced they would receive orders from President Trump to strike Iran. Expectations for a US attack on Iran were built over the previous two weeks as Trump threatened the Islamic Republic for cracking down on protesters. Members of his cabinet, including Vice President JD Vance, were pushing Trump to authorize strikes. Vance argued Trump had drawn a red line that Iran had crossed by killing protesters, and the President must enforce it. However, the President received a call from Netanyahu, who warned that the planned strikes would not be decisive and that the US lacked the military equipment in the Middle East to repel an Iranian counterattack. Axios reporter Barak Ravid spoke with several US officials who said Netanyahu's warning and the potential for Iranian retaliation were significant factors in Trump's decision not to order an attack. Since the US and Israeli was on Iran in June, two aircraft carrier strike groups and an advanced air defense system have been deployed out of the Middle East. Late last week, Trump dispatched the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to the region. An Iranian official said on Sunday that at least 5,000 people had been killed over three weeks of demonstrations. The protests often turned into riots, and over 500 members of the Iranian security forces had also been killed. While the demonstrations in Iran have mostly ceased, US officials say the potential for an attack on the Islamic Republic remains a possibility. First Published at Antiwar.com

The Fed's Endless Addiction: Why Trump Won't Let the Housing Bubble Pop | 1/14/26

Trump delivered a major economic speech yesterday, in which he advocated for all the policies that created inflation, fake wealth, and the K-shaped economy to begin with. He wants endless near-zero interest rates and more juicing of the housing and stock-market bubbles. Also, everything he is doing is executive actions with no plan to codify them in Congress. Next, I explain how Bibi Netanyahu is pushing for a phaseout of aid to his country, while Trump shockingly opposes it. Our main discussion today is about letting the housing bubble deflate on its own. We're joined by Melody Wright, a mortgage finance and housing policy expert, who explains how prices are already coming down. There will be a crash, but on balance, that is a good thing. The problem is that everything the government is doing will lead to price increases. Trump is also misdiagnosing the problem as one of interest rates and supply. In fact, developers have overbuilt in most parts of the country. Rather than treating the delayed symptom of corporate ownership, the time has come to treat the cause, which is government ownership of housing. Let the bubble pop! Learn more about your ad choices.
