How do you cultivate a loyal following through organic growth and word-of-mouth buzz and without leaning on celebrity endorsements or splashy marketing campaigns? It's the Komos way. In this episode, Ria Soler, the director of education and global advocacy for luxury spirit brand Tequila Komos, talks about how the company has focused on organic growth, thoughtful distribution and authenticity to stand out in an increasingly crowded market. Show notes: 0:45: Sports Drink? Tawchy's. More Investment, But Where? Jean Luc Picard. National Day Day. –  Tequila is still booming, but is “better for you”? Torchy's Tacos is all over Austin. When will the chain come to Boston? Melissa drops the latest on Nombase, and we've got new speaker reveals for BevNET Live. FABID's Q1 2025 report shows the funding freeze might be thawing, just not everywhere. National Pretzel Day – are you Team Soft or Team Crunchy? John is irritated. And, we've got new and notable products aplenty. 34:47: Interview: Ria Soler, Director of Education and Global Advocacy at Tequila Komos – At the Nassau Paradise Island Wine & Food Festival last month in The Bahamas, Ria talks about how Komos brings a winemaker's finesse to the world of agave spirits, blending traditional tequila craftsmanship with a sophisticated, global outlook. She also offers a candid look into Komos's multifaceted approach to brand building, how it embraces product placement in popular television shows from The White Lotus to The Real Housewives, and why “all press is good press” as the company expands visibility. Ria also talks about why at the heart of Komos' growth is a strong focus on distributor relationships, where trust and mutual respect are essential – especially during its transition into Gallo's network. She shares the value of ride-alongs with sales reps, even if it means braving a few dirty cars, and explains why her communication style is rooted in listening and adaptability. My friend Kelly and I once spent an amazing weekend in New Orleans celebrating her upcoming wedding. Drinking Hurricanes and Hand Grenades throughout the night in the French Quarter we sang our hearts out at Pat O'briens with dueling pianos and SUPER strong drinks. The next morning might not have been the most comfortable for Kelly, but she was such a trooper and dragged her ass out of bed to eat beignets and throw up in the background of a tourist's pictures at Cafe Du Monde. As we took a rough hungover bike tour which was one of the best and only bike tours I've ever been on, we learned all about the history and geography of New Orleans. After that weekend I've had the itch to go back and visit. Chatting with Kelly about our visit and her experience there for fun weekends or Jazz Fests helps to pass the time and fulfill that need before I am able to make it back again. Enjoy!

What does it say about us that we’re taking a great deal of pleasure in having a mug of something warm as a near-constant companion? You be the judge! Also for your consideration: a nail-painting tool, a line of chic retro dinnerware, a milk-frother, and an oddly satisfying timer to help get at least a couple to-dos checked off.   The linkage:   Oh, hey: Take our survey!   We’ve been getting such good VMs, including the one at the end of this ep. If you want to join the fun: 833-632-5463.   Souvenir mugs we have or aspire to have: Russ & Daughters (they’ve discontinued the original), Hart’s, Cafe Du Monde, and Veselka. Also, vintage art museum mugs! And why not just make some on Zazzle and Shutterfly for friends when the mood strikes? A good way to memorialize photos, good or embarrassing.   Makers of the pretty ceramic mugs we want to have and to hold: Molly Anne Bishop, BTW Ceramics, Hasami Porcelain (There are two separate lines: one from Takuhiro Shinomoto, the founder of Tortoise General Store, and the other from Kyohei Baba), Chloe May Brown, Risa Nishimori, Knotwork, and Helen Levi.    Bitty espresso cups! Splatterware enamel ones from GSI Outdoors and non-splatter enamel ones from Falcon specifically.   Buy into the buzz of the Olive & June Poppy for home nail-painting. This whole Starter Set excellent—love the EC polish, and the topcoat is as good as promised.   Some more background on Heller Dinnerware by Massimo Vignelli. DWR sells the white version, and there’s tons of vintage on Etsy.   For more on the Pomodoro Technique, here you go. Give Marinaratimer.com a try, or snag a cute tomato timer.   Oh, you thought we were done with mug-related content? NOPE. While the downtown is filled with bars, Mobile keeps their festivities kid friendly. While there we visited the Mobile Carnival Museum. We highly advise you to take their free tour, admission was $8. We then went to a 2nd parade in Fairhope, which was much smaller but still fun. We ate at a fantastic Lebanese restaurant in Fairhope called Sage. Then we drove to New Orleans (NOLA). There’s a lot of bad news coming out of Washington, DC these days. Hear about the city, and it’s easy to feel negatively. But that’s the opposite reaction I have when I think of this city, full of vibrant restaurants, and one of the best places to start your day, or take a lunch, is just over the line in Arlington, VA. Bayou Bakery is a slice of New Orleans helmed by chef/owner David Guas, someone who’s just as happy pulling an espresso shot and greeting guests by name as he is deftly laminating dough or creating a chocolate ganache with just the right sheen. He started his career at the prestigious Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, he’s penned a James Beard finalist cookbook, and had some TV fun as the host of the Travel Channel’s American Grilled, but through it all he’s remained a loyal participant in Who Dat Nation. And he makes one of the best beignets this side of Cafe Du Monde.

Several weeks ago Dr. Gina Green posted an impassioned request to support the Association for Professional Behavior Analysts on Facebook, noting, among other things, that the organization is uniquely suited to advocate for the needs of both practitioners and clients in this unpredictable world of ours. One of the ways that she suggested supporting APBA was to attend the annual conference. Well, her plea worked on me, and I am in the process of making travel plans to New Orleans, where this year's conference is being held. After that, I started thinking about things I could do to encourage my fellow Behavior Analysts to attend as well. As such, I hope to have a future episode or two that highlights the content of the conference itself. Having said that, attending a conference is not only about sitting in a meeting room, dutifully taking notes and obtaining CE units. Let's be honest, it's also an opportunity to travel and see places that one would not ordinary visit on their own. Because this year's event is in the city of New Orleans, I thought that it would be fun to do an episode that highlights some non-clinical or practice-related reasons to attend APBA. In order to accomplish this, I reached out to my new friend and fellow podcaster, Mark Bologna of the Beyond Bourbon Street Podcast, a show that celebrates all that New Orleans has to offer. In this episode, the New Orleans native gives us perhaps the most concise visitor's guide to the city. We talk about everything from how to get to the conference hotel from the airport to local figures of speech. More importantly we spend a lot of time talking about cool places to eat, sightsee, and just hang out. Mark shares places to go not only for new visitors to the city, but he also mentions some very cool restaurants that only the locals know about. All in all, there's something for everyone in this episode (and if you're like me, you'll start to get hungry as Mark describes the local cuisine!). From a resources standpoint, this is perhaps the most content-rich episode I've done to date. There are almost 40 links to resources in these show notes. I listed them in the order in which they appear in the podcast. I have them in a downloadable PDF as well, so please feel free to share this with friends and co-workers who are considering a trip to New Orleans (whether for the conference or not). Here's the PDF (no email address required, actual links below): Session 19 Resource List In closing, I hope I've provided some additional incentive to attend the APBA conference! ## DrupalCon New Orleans * Where is the DrupalCon going to be?     * New Orleans convention center * When is it?     * May 9-13 2016 * Why New Orleans?     * We are seeing an incredible rebirth of a Great American City.  Hurricane Katrina was such an unbelievable disaster, 80% of the city was flooded.  Surrounding Parishes even worse, (we have Parishes instead of Counties), St. Bernard Parish, just down river, 99% was flooded.  In the last 10 years we have overcome seemingly unsurmountable rebuilding, and have plenty more in the works.  DrupalCon coming to New Orleans is great affirmation of progress we have made.  It has a vibe like no other city, you can feel the life. * Why were you so driven to bring DrupalCon to your town?     * It’s such a great place to be!  Growing up 5 miles from Bourbon Street, we tend to take our City for granted.  We do things that are rarely seen in the world!  Food, Festivals, Family activities, Music, and of course you can drink in public!  The general attitude across the whole city is very inviting and laid back.  Really, a perfect place for a crowd like the Drupal Community! * What does the tech community look like there?     *Growing in leaps and bounds.  The entrepreneur landscape is one of the top in the country – we lead the nation in startups per capita by 64%, and we have a growing network of capital, which is important for startups.  Game Loft, GE Capital, High Voltage Software have all chosen New Orleans because of our deep incentives, unique culture, and low cost of living. And our tech community is coalescing with the formation of TechNO, a coalition of local tech companies who meet regularly to promote the presence of the industry, New Orleans Entrepreneur Week hosted by the Idea Village, and NOLA Tech Week, which attracts national speakers and provides a great opportunity to showcase the industry. Finally, many local community colleges and universities are developing curricula to meet new digital workforce demands. There is no better opportunity in the country for tech companies than New Orleans. (from GNO, Inc. can be summarized) * What does the Drupal community look like?     * We just had our Second camp! :-)  Small but dedicated!  We have had Meetups Monthly since 2010. * How important is the local community with the regards to putting on a DrupalCon.     * I think now that the Drupal Association has taken the reigns of the Cons, the local community plays a part, but not like say, 2010, when we were in San Francisco.  The local community had to shoulder the brunt of the work.  And frankly, it was a lot, plus we probably had a limited number of cities with that size local community.  That’s one of the great things about the Association, organizing DrupalCons! * What’s the Drupal adoption look like in New Orleans?     * Growing, like everything else down here!  The larger Universities have adopted Drupal, Tulane, Loyola, LSU up in Baton Rouge, plus the WWII museum, WWOZ (a great radio station, you should listen online), Cafe Du Monde, The Chef John Besh Restaurant Group, Audubon Nature Institute, Dr. Tichenor’s, maybe more….(or we keep it short??) * Who’s going to be the “boots on the ground” in New Orleans playing “host”?     * Hopefully, us!  We are both born and raised in the New Orleans area.  I am involved in the local civic and business community and the entire Tech community are excited to host Drupalers! * How is it organized compared to years past? (Level of community and association involvement)     * Again the Drupal Association has done a great job of spearheading the Cons.  We worked closely with them to develop the logo and overall branding of the Con.  In the coming months, we will work with them to look at venues and locations for events.  Sponsors have reached out to us to help them organization of their specific needs for parties and meeting. * How will you be choosing who is selecting sessions     * Each Con we put together the Track Team which is comprised of global track chairs (people who have evaluated and selected sessions for a Con at least once before) and then we work to assemble the Local Track Chairs who work in conjunction with the globals.  We get these people from recommendations from within the community, people reaching out to volunteer and people expressing interest to Global Track Chairs.  They go through an interview process with the Drupal Association and then the team is assembled and starts working to get out the call for content.  It’s quite a ways away planning-wise but the Drupal Association will start putting together the New Orleans Track Team in the late fall, so if you’re interested or know someone who would be a great addition please reach out to amanda@association.drupal.org.   You can read all about the session selection process here: https://events.drupal.org/barcelona2015/session-selection-process    * For those that want to have a future Con in their community, do you have any advice?  * We heard interest from the Drupal Association in having a New Orleans Con about five years ago, but we didn’t have a local community to support it. We started up a small meetup in Baton Rouge in 2010, then it slowly migrated to New Orleans. We didn’t lobby anyone to win the conference for the city. We just tried to establish a community and show consistent interest over the years, and trusted that New Orleans is a destination that the community would want to visit. Eric: you were at that first meetup and have helped to coordinate the growth of the group, what are your thoughts?     * Have a consistent Meetup!  We decided at our first Meetup we would meet on the First Thursday of the Month, even if it was only two people.  And barring that occasional conflict with a carnival parade we have done that.  Then organize a Camp, start small and be consistent! * Before we started recording, you mentioned that you wanted to talk about possible afterparty locations. Do you want to do that now?     * Everywhere!     * Crawfish season   ## Questions from Twitter * [Ryan Gibson](https://www.twitter.com/ryanissamson) What kind of festivities can we expect during DrupalCon NO? #MUP139 * [Carie Fisher](https://www.twitter.com/cariefisher)   #MUP139 best place for drupalcon parties? any places we should try and visit in NO? * [Robyn Green](https://www.twitter.com/robynlgreen) Question for Jeff, What amount of LSU attire will I be required to have for Drupalcon, and where can I get a 'I
