Lets Keep it simple..... Songs featured in Episode 142 Millitarie Gun, Dazy – “tall people Don't Live Long” “B.A.B.E.” – Scowl “Cheap Tricks” - DOSSEY We also review the much anticipated new Blackwater Holylight EP. Unfortunately, BWHL doesn't lend itself to short clips so we don't feature a song. Enjoy! We ALSO also talk about “Pretend We're Dead” by Tanya Peterson. This is a “must read” book about music in the 90's and we highly recommended it. We ALSO ALSO ALSO pitch a movie. What kind of movie? Listen and be entertained!

#167 - Militarie Gun (Ian Shelton)

When I say Militarie Gun is one of my favorite bands, that's not an understatement. The band's June 23 release, Life Under The Gun, put an exclamation point on that remark. It felt like record from a veteran band - one that has been around for 10-20. However, for Militarie Gun, they have only been releasing music since 2020 as a group, and made instant noise in the hardcore scene with All Roads Lead To The Gun. It helped that the members all come from excellent projects (Regional Justice Center, Modern Color, and Drug Church). Now Militarie Gun is getting their rightful recognition. Life Under The Gun will pop up on countless Album of the Year lists. This interview was recorded in July around the time of the viral video between Ian Shelton and Post Malone. We hear a fun story of how that connection came to be. There's also an in-depth conversation about collaboration projects. I don't think anyone has forgotten about the song Pressure Cooker that Militarie Gun did with Dazy last year. Shelton also helped out with music from MSPAINT and Cold Mega. Give this interview a listen! It was a long time coming!

Lets get back to basics folks!! The 80s/90s were the king of the road for music! Diversity in music is what makes the culture of the world spin out on the airwaves. Back in the day we opened our ears and eyes and our borders to music from all over the world from the British Invasion to South African vibes to Gregorian chants even...lol Its a crime that music has flown in the direction it has. Newcomers (DARKBIRD) from Austin, TX are certainly not guilty of any musical "Crimes" as their new hit has soared in for a landing on the Halshack! I'm glad they decided to pick my landing zone and launching pad for their band. We will do what we can to help Darkbird build a nest here at my show!We even got super lucky to land Belinda Carlisle and Gabe Lopez in a new duet "California Blues". We are absolutely not feeling the blues around the Shack these days! I'm honored to have their support!  Over the years the labels seemed to have forgot where quality meets innovation and "catchy" writing skills as well as pro experience to produce a top hit. The hits of today fail in comparison on many fronts from the forefathers and mothers of popular music of the past. Its not about "Get off my lawn"!! or "Kids today and their music"...lol It's about the very quality of whats being produced from an objective professional perspective. That all stopped about 10 to 15 years ago. That's when the decline of diversity set in and we only have what we have today at the top. We cant forget what "powerhouse hits" came well before the industry decided to stop looking for real singer songwriters and closing our musical borders to the knowledge of the world radio sphere. Its a "crime" that no one knows these bands exist and could compete with the greats of the past! Its a "crime" that there's no central place for music where we can share in that collective experience that made our world so connected without the internet or our phones. These new technologies have made us less connected than ever before!Lets rock 80s/90s!! Pop wave, Brit wave, Americana/rock in this show!! Have fun!!Up next maybe Ep 28 Shacknation 13 (full talk and music) or another theme show, not sure yet! Whatever it is, it will be great as always from your trusted guru of the radio dial!We got some BIG announcements coming soon about the High Rock Music Festival and the Shackhole down at the Axehole in Lexington NC!Find my show everywhere on Itunes, Iheart Radio, Podomatic, Deezer, Amazon Music and many more!Halshack.com you can find everything here including the tracklist at the SHACKLISTS page!Halshack.com/shacklistsThanks so much for becoming a fan! Help spread the word! This has been a 10 year passion project with no money made! Time to turn Halshack into an LLC and start the income stream for the bands with festivals and much more!

In this week's Indiecast, Ian and Steve share their thoughts on two new albums. The first is Yves Tumor's long-winded album Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds) (yes, that's the full album title), which is not quite experimental enough to be avant-garde but not quite catchy enough to be a pop record (44:40). The second is Black Country, New Road's Live At Bush Hall, an album recorded after the band's lead singer departed (53:11).But before they get into the meat of the episode, Steve and Ian dive into Ticketmaster's latest controversy and how it's kinda, sorta, but not really surprising how quickly The Cure's tour sold out (21:53). They briefly recap SXSW and a certain viral artist who people accused of “quiet quitting” during her set (1:30). Plus, in honor of Steve's list of the 100 best debut albums, they talk about which albums didn't make the cut (31:37).In this week's Recommendation Corner (1:03:36), Ian shouts out the memoir Stay True by Hua Hsu. Meanwhile, Steve gives props to Dazy's power pop EP Otherbody.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 131 here and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. When to stop driving a moving vehicle? That is the question to ponder; is it a toss up between being a responsible adult or maintaining a sense of independence? For many people, this is a difficult choice. If you live in an urban or suburban location you may have many options available if you give up driving. For others, a car may be a necessity -- one needed to get to gainful employment, purchase groceries, or use to transport family members more disabled than yourself. In this academic paper, physicians discuss health conditions that predispose patients for difficulties with tasks required for driving a car safely. People with Alzheimer dementia, epilepsy, visual impairments, sleep apnea syndrome, cardiac dysrhythmias, substance dependency, and neurological disorders with a cognitive component are at risk. In this MDA Engage recorded webinar, the presenter shares this factoid -- For every mile driven there are 20 decisions that need to be made and less than ½ second to react This podcast episode explores the decision-making process for podcast host, Leslie Krongold, as well as for guest, Keisha Greaves. Both chose to give up driving before a doctor told them to. If you, or a loved one, are concerned about your current driving skills, take this online assessment to gauge whether or not you should explore driving options. Each U.S. state has unique laws regarding senior and/or drivers with specific disabilities; check what your state has on the books. If you're a caregiver in search of advice for your loved one, check out this U.S. Dept of Transportation website.

To be considered "prolific" in the music world, an artist usually puts out an album every one or two years. But what about bands who routinely release several albums a year? On this week's Indiecast episode, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen deep dive into King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's wildly fruitful career (they've put out 23 albums since 2012, including five albums this year) (40:56). Plus, Indiecast shares their forecast for which bands will make the rounds on 2022 Albums Of The Year lists (20:56).In terms of music news this week, Taylor Swift's new album Midnights once again seemed to have the internet in a chokehold so Steven and Ian discuss how each Swift album cycle sparks the same debate about stans (3:32). Plus, Indiecast names bands they consider to be the Velvet Underground of this generation (10:16).This week's Recommendation Corner (54:09) has Ian telling listeners to check out Sam Prekop And John McEntire's recent album Sons Of, which is surprisingly melodic. Steven recommends Dazy, the project of Virginia-based singer-songwriter James Goodson, whose debut LP OUTOFBODY is fun, catchy, and bedroom pop-adjacent.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. To, že si post vysloužil díky skladbě As It Was, už vůbec ne.

Dazy & Militarie Gun - "Pressure Cooker," a 2022 single on Very Loud Sounds. Combine the talents of LA-based hardcore band Militarie Gun and James Goodson's punk/pop project Dazy, and what you get is "Pressure Cooker," a collaborative single out now. A conflict of interest? Perhaps, as Goodson also serves as Militarie Gun's publicist, but the creativity could not be contained.  “Ever since I met Ian [Shelton, frontman of Militarie Gun], we've had a tendency to veer off into long conversations about songwriting, but when he suggested we should try to do something together I thought he was just being friendly,” Goodson shared in a press release, that maybe he wrote. “He kept bringing it up so finally I showed him a song I'd been working on, and in no time at all he was sending back vocals and new ideas. I'm always blown away by the amount of energy and personality that Militarie Gun can pack into a song, and it was really cool to work together and see that happening in real time.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After sending out a few emails, including one to James, I got a reply saying "Dazy is actually my band." Francia hoy

Francia hoy

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 14, 2020 20:44

We're thrilled to talk with the hilarious and hairy, husband and husband comedy duo of Dick & Duane on this week's hot new episode. Richie Cohen and Duane Tragis had us in stitches and we just wish you could SEE the whole thing (we did it via video Skype) because besides being funny, they are so bearishly cute, too. They'll tell you how they've been together since they were teenagers, how they got started doing their ingenious brand of sketch comedy, why they decided to bare it ALL in online pictures and videos (which are not work safe), and all about the new web series they're working on. Their segment kicks in at the 32:20 mark in the episode. Also up this week, Dale & Scott are on-location at the Paradise nightclub in Asbury Park, New Jersey for a chat with the Swish Edition's very first lady spinner! New York City's DJ Kim Dazy was at the shore for the weekend, entertaining the beach goers and taking a break from her permanent gig at Manhattan's Henrietta Hudson. We always wondered how deejays feel out a crowd, so we asked, duh. The goal is to fill out the floor and build from there...playing the pop dance hits and then building from there, adding in a few tracks the kids may not necessarily know. She explains the differences between music tastes between the ladies and the gents, why some club crowds demand the hits they can dance and sing along to, what the summer crowd is like at the shore. This eclectic deejay has worked Gay Days Orlando, Miami's Winter Party, and many others. And we're thinking we need to get this chick to DC some time soon. There just aren't enough lady deejays 'round these parts. Our chat with Kim starts at the 57:00 mark. Plus, the hosts talk about Dale's "Thing;" Steve's night at the theater; Dale & Scott's weekend sitting on their asses; Scott's poor 16 year old Dalmatian; the cum-like lube Spunk; more RSVP cruise troubles; Madonna, Andrew Christian, Funny Or Die, and rapper Murs' newest videos; the guy with the world's biggest penis gets detained by the TSA; the new season of CBS' Big Brother; and, much more.
