Legal online sports betting in Wisconsin would have to go through in-state tribal computer servers, under a bi-partisan bill given final okay by the state legislature Tuesday. Chuck Quirmbach reports. Supporters and critics of online sports betting acknowledge it frequently occurs in Wisconsin. Gamblers go through commercial companies like Draft Kings, but the Wisconsin Constitution says most legal betting can only occur on sovereign tribal properties here, regulated by state-tribal gaming compacts. The just-passed bill by the legislature attempts to reinforce that online sports bets in the state must go through the 11 federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin. Shannon Holsey is President of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians. She says the new legislation is good public policy. “It provides clarity, respect to tribal sovereignty, and it strengthens Wisconsin’s long-standing state and tribal partnership. Especially for our tribe and all tribes. It really creates opportunity, while allowing us to grow responsibly, securely and on our own terms.” Holsey says any additional revenue for the Stockbridge-Munsee would go toward funding things like tribal housing, health care and public safety. Remarks opposing the Wisconsin sports betting bill center on what critics like State Sen. Steve Nass (R-WI) say is the possibility of more people becoming addicted to gambling. “Making gambling easier and more accessible online will only accelerate these harms-family breakdown, lost productivity, addiction treatment.” But other supporters of the sports betting bill say more ways to prevent problem gambling could now be negotiated with the tribes. Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) still has to sign the legislation and the federal government has to approve amended gaming compacts. Pete Kaiser leaving Unalakleet checkpoint. (Courtesy Iditarod Insider) Jessie Holmes was the first musher to reach the end of the 1000-mile trail from Anchorage to Nome, winning his second consecutive Iditarod. KNBA’s Rhonda McBride reports. Four of the race's Indigenous mushers were still out on the trail Wednesday morning. Pete Kaiser (Yup'ik) from Bethel and Ryan Redington (Iñupiat) were finishing up their mandatory eight-hour rest in White Mountain, one of the last two checkpoints in the race. Both former champions were hoping for a repeat, b But Kaiser says his team contracted stomach virus on the trail, so he rested them more to give them time to recover. Kaiser told the Iditarod Insider this changed his focus. “I've been kind of reminiscing and soaking in the sights more than ever, trying to be in the moment more than stressing out about placement and different things like that. So of course it would be fun to be further up, but that's not always in the cards. I've had a good trip.” Kaiser's team is positioned to finish in the top ten. He says the cold dry snow on the Bering Sea Coast was one of the biggest challenges, because it sticks to the sled runners. Redington, who is not far behind Kaiser, told the Iditarod Insider this last stretch of the trail also tested his team. “Hopefully we get a little less wind. If it is windy, I'm going to take a lot more rest.” Ryan Redington talks about the strong Bering Sea winds are slowing his team down. (Courtesy Iditarod Insider) There were also three rookie Indigenous mushers in the race. Jesse Terry, an Anishinaabe from Ontario, is in 16th place and Kevin Hansen, an Iñupiaq from Kotzebue, is in 21st place. Jody Potts-Joseph, a Hän Gwich'in from Eagle Village, who had to contend with bison on the trail, pulled out of the race after her team came down with kennel cough. She said she had to put her team first. Iditarod Trail officials praised her handling of the dogs. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily. Sign up for our daily newsletter today. Jay Anderson is a researcher and host focused on UFO phenomena, hidden aerospace programs, and the growing body of claims around non-human intelligence. In this episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the conversation moves through government secrecy, leaked footage, whistleblower accounts, and the uncomfortable question of how much the public is actually being told. They dig into the recent surge in UFO disclosures, the credibility of insiders coming forward, and the tension between skepticism and belief in a space filled with misinformation, speculation, and real unanswered questions. Jay lays out his perspective on patterns in sightings, advanced propulsion theories, and why he believes something deeper is going on behind the scenes. This episode sits at the intersection of curiosity and caution—where the unknown pulls people in, but the lack of clear answers keeps everything just out of reach. The Joe Rogan Experience continues to be a place where controversial ideas, fringe theories, and emerging narratives are explored in long-form conversation—giving listeners the chance to hear it all and decide for themselves. My Life As A Landlord | Rentals, Real Estate Investing, Property Management, Tenants, Canada & US.
This episode explores which parts of Canada are most favorable to landlords and why. It highlights Alberta and Saskatchewan for their flexible rent rules, clearer eviction processes, and generally business‑friendly rental environments. New Brunswick and Manitoba are presented as more affordable markets with relatively straightforward regulations and workable rent and dispute systems. Ontario is included not for lenient rules, but for its huge, resilient rental market and long‑term appreciation potential despite strong tenant protections. The host emphasizes that each province suits different investor goals and encourages listeners to research local tenancy laws and market fundamentals before buying. This episode is a dedicated show for the Podcast-A-Thon airing between March 14 and 20, 2026.

One answer is about the Iranian people — especially the Persians who fled the ayatollahs and built new lives in Canada. Toronto and Vancouver are full of them. Many came here after the Islamic Revolution turned a modernizing U.S. ally into a brutal theocracy. Most are secular. Most despise the regime. Most dream of seeing their country free again. That Iran is worth sympathizing with. The other answer is about the regime. The Islamic Republic is not just another dictatorship. It is a fascist theocracy built on anti-Americanism, anti-Israel hatred, terrorism and religious fanaticism. It arms proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. It targets civilians on purpose. It wants nuclear weapons. And unlike secular tyrannies, it is not constrained by ordinary ideas of deterrence or mutually assured destruction. That regime is now on everyone's mind as Israel and the United States strike Iranian military assets, missiles and nuclear facilities. But Iran's response is never limited to the battlefield. It lashes out asymmetrically — through terrorism, proxies, intimidation and soft targets. That includes the West. Jewish institutions in Europe and North America have been attacked. Synagogues in Canada have been shot at. A U.S. consulate was targeted. And yet even now, Canada's political class cannot bring itself to speak clearly about what Iran is — or what it is doing here. Take Mark Carney. It has now come out that a Canadian military installation was attacked by Iran two weeks ago. Thankfully, no Canadians were hurt. But Carney kept it quiet. And when finally asked about it, his answer was not outrage, not retaliation, not even a serious condemnation. His answer was that Canada would not take part in “offensive actions.” Offensive actions? Canada was attacked. Retaliating against an attack is not “offensive.” Keeping it secret and then scolding reporters for asking about it is not leadership. It is weakness. And Carney is not alone. Gregor Robertson, now a federal Liberal, managed to invoke the war with Iran not to condemn terrorism, not to denounce the regime, but to explain away Canada's housing crisis. Apparently Iran is now to blame for home prices too. It was absurd. It made no sense. But it revealed something important: to these people, Iran is not chiefly a terror state. It is a political talking point, a prop to excuse their domestic failures. Evan Solomon was no better. More vague talking points. More mush. More attempts to fold Iran into a generic Liberal message about affordability and “plans.” Not a word of seriousness about the regime itself, or the fact that Iran has agents operating in Canada. Then there is Doug Ford. Back in 2018, Ford said he would not tolerate Al-Quds Day in Ontario — the annual hate march created by the ayatollahs to glorify the destruction of Israel and spread anti-Jewish hatred in the West. And yet for eight years, he tolerated it. Only now, on the eve of this year's march, did Ford suddenly announce he was seeking an injunction to stop it. Not months ago. Not weeks ago. Not even a few days ago. The day before. It was completely unserious. Any court application launched at the last minute was almost certain to fail on timing alone. Ford knew about these annual marches for years. He did nothing. And then, with cameras rolling and the event already imminent, he decided to perform toughness. The police are unserious. The Ontario government is unserious. The federal government is unserious. And in a country this full of Iranian regime sympathizers and agents, that is becoming dangerous. Canada now has leaders who cannot even say plainly that Iran is the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, that it has attacked Canadians, and that its supporters openly organize in this country. That is what they really think about Iran. They think it can be managed. Delayed. Spun. Used. Soft-pedalled. Folded into some other message. They do not treat it as the threat it is. And that may be the most dangerous thing of all. GUEST: Conservative MP Garnett Genuis joins the show to discuss the 84,000 jobs lost in Canada in February and what that says about the country's failing economy.

Welcome to the 5th and final part of this Pulse Check series. In this episode, we turn to one of the most nuanced and hopeful findings in Ologie's national study: across political identities, people want colleges and universities to be places for ideas, not ideologies. That sounds inspiring in theory. In practice, it raises harder questions. What does healthy dialogue actually look like on campus right now? How do students learn to navigate disagreement without collapsing into silence, defensiveness, or division? And what role should universities play in helping them build those skills? Host Day Kibilds is joined by two student leaders who are doing this work in real time. Kathleen Parks, student body vice president at Texas A&M University, and Mac Mahoney, president of the Dartmouth Political Union at Dartmouth College, share what it takes to create spaces for conversation, respectful disagreement, and meaningful exchange among peers. Together, they explore the difference between safe spaces and brave spaces, the importance of shared values and trust, and why civil discourse is not just a campus ideal but a lifelong skill. This episode is about what happens when students are given the chance to practice dialogue with honesty, humility, and courage, and why that matters far beyond graduation.Guest Bio (Kathleen Parks): Kathleen Parks is a senior at Texas A&M University studying society, ethics, and law, with minors in philosophy and leadership. She currently serves as student body vice president, where she helps represent student perspectives in university decision-making and works to support conversations rooted in shared values, leadership, and civil discourse. Guest Bio (Mac Mahoney): Malcolm “Mac” Mahoney is a senior at Dartmouth College studying politics, philosophy, and economics. He serves as president of the Dartmouth Political Union, Dartmouth's student-run nonpartisan political organization, which hosts weekly meetings and debates that expose students to a wide range of political thought and encourage open, respectful dialogue across difference. Host Bio (Dayana Kibilds): With 15 years of experience, Dayana Kibilds has led award-winning work with universities around the world. An international keynote speaker and one of London, Ontario's 20 Under 40, she is known for making complex ideas clear, practical, and possible. She loves to teach and share what she knows through her email book Mailed It!, as well as through her workshops, courses, her work with young professionals at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's Summer Institutes, and her weekly newsletter. A lifelong immigrant who grew up in six countries, Day is now happily Canadian and lives with her husband, Bruno, and son, Romeo. - - - -Connect With Our Host:Mallory Willsea https://www.linkedin.com/in/mallorywillsea/https://twitter.com/mallorywillseaAbout The Enrollify Podcast Network:The Higher Ed Pulse is a part of the Enrollify Podcast Network. One of the things that can make a novel memorable is its atmosphere. So what do we mean, exactly, when we use that word, and how do we craft it? Guest H. M. Long joins us to attempt to answer that question amid the nebulous, numinous clouds of vibes and aesthetics. Not every author's going to interpret it the same way, but it's a bit about the mood, a bit about how the setting creates the mood, a bit about the characters' sensory experiences and their memories of those sensory experiences, a bit about what details you use to pull the reader into the character's experience of the world. It's a bit about weather, a bit about lighting, a bit about the score and soundtrack you're trying to put in a reader's head. Writers can use common shorthands, familiar references, quick sketches of setting, vocabulary choices, and other tools to hack their reader's minds and invoke a particular energy and vibrance for their story. [Transcript for Episode 176] Our Guest: Hannah (H. M.) Long is a Canadian fantasy author. She inhabits a ramshackle cabin in Ontario with her family, but she can often be spotted snooping about museums or wandering the Alps. First customer deliveries have slipped to 2028, with delays attributed to technical challenges in developing a rugged ladder-frame platform with dual powertrains.RIVIAN DROPS $45,000 R2 STARTING-PRICE LINERivian has quietly removed the "$45,000 starting price" reference from its R2 product page, replacing it with a countdown clock ahead of a March 12 reveal at South by Southwest where full pricing and specs are expected. The R2 will launch first as a higher-priced dual-motor variant, with a more affordable single-motor base model to follow shortly after.BEVS NOW BEAT ICE ON COST IN MORE MARKETSAyvens' 2026 Car Cost Index finds BEVs now undercut comparable ICE models on total cost of ownership in a growing number of European markets, with Western and Northern Europe leading the way. In the compact segment BEVs hold a TCO advantage in 19 of 30 markets, and the BMW i4 beats the petrol 3 Series on TCO in 20 of 30 European countries.GLOBAL PUBLIC EV CHARGERS HEAD FOR 9.01M IN 2026Global public EV charging infrastructure is forecast to reach 9.01 million plugs in 2026, up from 7.11 million in 2025, though China alone accounts for 67% of the global total and the top eight countries host 88% of all chargers. Growth is slowing in Europe and losing momentum in the US, while Germany is on track to overtake the Netherlands in installed chargers during 2026.UK SUPPLIERS PULL FIXED DEALS AS GAS SPIKESUK energy suppliers slashed available fixed tariffs from 38 to 17 in a matter of days as wholesale gas prices spiked roughly 75% following disruption to Middle Eastern gas infrastructure, with the cheapest typical annual dual-fuel fixed deal rising from £1,509 to £1,640. EV-specific tariffs were also affected, with EDF pausing some EV tariffs and E.ON briefly freezing one, threatening the cost advantage of off-peak home charging for EV drivers.NEXTSTAR SWITCHES ON CANADA'S FIRST EV CELL PLANTNextStar Energy, a Stellantis and LG Energy Solution joint venture, has opened Canada's first commercial-scale EV battery cell plant in Windsor, Ontario, having already produced over one million cells since production began in November 2025. Beyond supplying Stellantis brands, NextStar aims to expand into stationary energy storage for municipal and provincial grids.STELLANTIS PLANS £50M ELLESMERE PORT VAN LINEStellantis will invest £50 million at Ellesmere Port to add an assembly line for electric Vauxhall Vivaro vans and other midsize zero-emission commercial vehicles from next year, building on the site's existing all-electric output. However, Stellantis warns the plant may not be commercially viable under the UK's ZEV mandate for vans, which carries an £18,000 fine per non-compliant vehicle at a 24% electric sales threshold that the industry is currently only half-meeting.MET SEIZES 52 ILLEGAL E-BIKES AND MOPEDSThe Metropolitan Police seized 52 illegal electric bikes and mopeds across London over two days, using targeted checkpoints in high-pedestrian-risk areas including Harlesden and Cambridge Circus. Officers also made arrests for dangerous driving, weapons possession, and outstanding prison recall warrants, linking illegal e-bikes to phone snatches and broader street crime.MEXICO AUTO PLANTS PIVOT TO HIGHER-VALUE EVSMexico's auto sector is shifting focus from volume to higher-value output between 2025 and 2027, with GM concentrating Cadillac OPTIQ production at Ramos Arizpe and BMW committing its San Luis Potosí plant to build the iX3 — its first Neue Klasse EV — from 2027. Both manufacturers have maintained their Mexican strategies despite ongoing uncertainty from US tariffs and trade policy under President Trump.FARLEY POURS COLD WATER ON ELECTRIC UTESFord CEO Jim Farley says current BEV technology is poorly suited to mainstream ute and pickup buyers who tow heavy loads, calling a large-battery BEV "a really bad tow-er," and Ford has already shelved the F-150 Lightning following weak demand and a $19.5 billion EV writedown. Farley backs extended-range EVs as the near-term bridge solution for work-capable vehicles, while dismissing solid-state batteries and fuel cells as not yet on Ford's product horizon.
Losing your way can sometimes be the beginning of finding who you really are. Robert Pallante's life revolved around hockey from a young age. Growing up in the Toronto area, he played at the highest levels, earned a college scholarship, and chased the dream so many young athletes believe defines them. But when his hockey journey didn't unfold the way he expected, Rob was left struggling with identity, confidence, and unanswered questions that followed him long after he left the game. Years later, a near-fatal motorcycle accident forced Robert into stillness, reflection, and a complete reset. Lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life, he realized he was under no obligation to remain the person he had been. This episode explores what it means to separate who you are from what you do, how pain can become perspective, and why rebuilding your identity is possible at any stage of life. Guest Bio Robert Pallante grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, where hockey shaped much of his early life. Drafted into the OHL and later earning a scholarship to Michigan Tech, Robert pursued the sport at a high level before continuing into junior and professional camps. After leaving hockey, he spent over two decades building a successful career in sales, business development, and corporate leadership. In 2015, Robert survived a near-death motorcycle accident that led to eight surgeries, 40 days in the hospital, and years of rehabilitation. That experience became a turning point, reshaping his priorities and purpose. Today, Robert works with young athletes to help them build an invincible mindset, develop strong values, and prepare for life both during and after sports. He is a single father to two children, Luca and Ava. Game of Thrones is known for its complex story arcs, violent political conflicts and its big ensemble cast. But a new prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is leaning into humour and putting a focus on the charming duo at the centre of the story. Canadian screenwriter Ira Parker created the show with author George R. R. Martin. He joins guest host Garvia Bailey to talk about how he created the new series and how he went from shooting films in his dad's warehouse in St. Catharines, Ontario to making an emotional TV series in Hollywood.
Canada’s residential mortgage market is a $32 billion annual asset class in Ontario alone. Plus, it’s structurally undersupplied. Unlike the US, Canada has no 30-year fixed mortgage. As a result, strict banking regulations push Canadian homeowners into the private lending market every few years. That forced refinancing cycle produces delinquency rates roughly one-eighth of what US private lenders see. On top of that, the recourse process in Canada runs just 60–90 days. Chris Lopez sits down with Hugh Tawney, founder of Leeward Capital Partners. Together, they walk through how Property Llama Capital gained access to this market and why they made it part of their Capital 3 fund. Hugh brings an institutional finance background in public equities, fixed income, life settlements, venture, and structured credit. Before founding Leeward, he spent years building fund vehicles across multiple asset classes. His CFO managed fund accounting for 38 entities at a Denver venture firm. His COO, meanwhile, helped build ArrowMark’s multifamily origination platform — a $5 billion book. Their Canadian operating partner, Aman Mann, ran a mortgage investment company from 2017 to 2023. In total, he originated approximately 500 loans with zero impairment of principal. The fund focuses on first and second lien residential mortgages — bridge loans, fix and flip, and short-term refinances. Currently, the portfolio sits at a 76.4% weighted average LTV with an 80% hard ceiling. Also worth noting: two-thirds to three-quarters of the loan book is owner-occupied. Homeowners, after all, default at a fraction of the rate that investment property owners do. For third-party validation, the fund works with Baker Tilly (tax and audit), NAV Consulting (fund administration), UMB (custody), and Stout (quarterly independent valuations). In This Episode We Cover: Why Canada’s lack of 30-year fixed mortgages creates a structural private lending opportunity every 3–5 years How Ontario’s power of sale process delivers 60–90 day recourse vs multi-year US foreclosure timelines The tax structure that classifies fund distributions as qualified dividends — potentially a 30–50% reduction in tax burden vs ordinary income How currency hedging via forwards contracts protects principal at a cost of 8–15 basis points The pending leverage strategy projected to take gross yields from 12% unlevered to 20% levered Why Leeward targets the lower end of the Canadian market — less competition, more inefficiency, higher yields The 15-month liquidity window and how it mirrors a short-term bond fund duration with a private credit return profile If you’re an accredited investor looking at private credit and want to understand an asset class that most US investors have never encountered — this is the episode to start with. Property Llama’s due diligence included a three-to-four day on-site asset tour in Toronto and a personal investment from Chris before the fund was opened to the broader investor community. Episode 409: In June 2006, police carried out coordinated arrests across southern Ontario and charged 18 young men under Canada's anti-terrorism laws. The case quickly became known as the Toronto 18. It was described as a homegrown plot, not directed from overseas but organized in suburban communities around Mississauga and Toronto. Most of the accused were in their late teens or early twenties. Many were Canadian citizens or long-time residents. Their backgrounds varied, but research and court records show no pattern of hardened criminal histories or severe mental illness. What drew them together, investigators argued, was a shared sense of grievance over global conflicts and a growing embrace of militant ideology.
