In today's Daily Fix:Former Bethesda executive Pete Hines is the altest gaming exec to come out against Xbox Game Pass. Hines was the Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications as Xbox-owned Bethesda, and in a recent interview has questioned the value Game Pass provides to developers. He joins former PlayStation exec Shawn Layden, who has come out against gaming subscription services in general. Another former Microsoft VP, Shannon Loftis, backed up Hines' comments, adding that games launched on Game Pass need to have post-release monetization plans to make up for lost retail revenue. In other news, Keanu Reeves is open to returning to the Cyberpunk franchise for the sequel, Cyberpunk 2. Reeves played Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, and famously made a huge impression at E3 2019 when his role was formerly revealed. And finally, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford says the Borderlands 4 Day 1 Patch 'does a lot,' but you really should be playing the game on at least a minimum-spec PC, and that's it's 'a miracle' the game runs at all on very low-end hardware.

A few nights ago I watched The Matrix with four of my younger kids after one said she didn't remember ever seeing it. A group of my older kids had gotten together to watch it recently as well. I'm talking the 1999 movie starring Keanu Reeves. It depicts a concept where most humans are inert and simply plugged into a computer program living pretend lives in a virtual construct. There is then a small clan of rebels who have escaped and are actually living in the tangible, real world. In the 26 years since the Matrix came out there have been many commentaries on The Matrix being real, in that we are all living a programmed and rather simulated life. Not a true, free, and authentic existence. What strikes me is that real or not, all the things we do in life are simply to feel a certain way. On this episode, Jason G and I review 'Ballerina', a spinoff set in the 'John Wick' universe between chapters three and four. We praise the film's action, calling it some of the best in the series, with standout scenes, such as a flamethrower sequence. I mention struggling to fully buy Ana de Armas as an action star, while Jason suggests the director's style may emphasize looks over grit. We also note the inclusion of Lance Reddick's character, filmed before his passing, and appreciate how the action feels intense but more grounded compared to other over-the-top set pieces in this universe. We give the movie an overall rating of 7 to 7.8 out of 10. The conversation concludes with thoughts on the box office and franchise. Despite a $90 million budget, the film made about $132 million worldwide, which may not cover total costs. However, it is performing well on VOD platforms.
