In this episode of the We Love Arabian Horses podcast, host Paul Kostial sits down with Jonathan Horowitz, Executive Director of the Arabian Jockey Club (AJC), to discuss the growth and evolving role of Arabian racehorses within the breed. Now in his second year leading the AJC, Jonathan reflects on the successes of the past year, both on and off the track, and shares his vision for the future of Arabian racing. One of the year's biggest highlights was the UAE President Cup, a major event that showcased the strength of American-bred Arabian racehorses. Several U.S. horses also made an impact internationally, proving the quality of American bloodlines. Beyond racing, the Race Bred Arabian Series was launched to highlight the many ways retired racehorses excel in other disciplines, including eventing, endurance, and ride-and-tie competitions. Jonathan shares his own experience competing in eventing with his Arabian, reinforcing the breed's natural versatility and adaptability. Jonathan also discusses the significance of race-bred Arabians in the broader breed community, explaining how racing has shaped the development of many top sport and performance horses. He highlights influential stallions like Orzel and Sambor, whose bloodlines continue to impact the breed decades later. While Arabian racing in the U.S. has only been formally organized since 1959, its influence extends far beyond the track, helping to produce horses with the athleticism, endurance, and heart that make Arabians so special. A key focus of the AJC is connecting the racing world with the broader Arabian horse community, ensuring that race-bred Arabians are recognized for their talent and contributions. By sharing success stories and increasing engagement, the AJC hopes to encourage more horse owners to consider race-bred Arabians for disciplines beyond racing. Looking ahead, Jonathan is excited about the future of Arabian racing, noting that each year brings new stars and fresh opportunities for the sport to grow. He also sees potential for collaboration between racing and other disciplines, such as starting young Arabians on the track before transitioning them to sport careers. Throughout the conversation, Jonathan and Paul emphasize the passion and sense of community that fuels Arabian horse enthusiasts. They discuss the importance of sharing stories, engaging with others, and celebrating the breed's unique heritage. Jonathan encourages listeners to tag We Love Arabian Horses when sharing their own Arabian experiences, helping to spread awareness and appreciation for these incredible horses. With momentum building in both racing and the broader Arabian world, the future looks bright for the breed and its many devoted fans.

This week's show is with Jonathan Horwitz. Jonathan was born in the USA and has lived in Scandinavia for over half his life. He has been actively working with shamanism since 1972, was a teacher and field researcher at the Foundation for Shamanic Studies for 10 years and has a master's degree in anthropology. In 1986, Jonathan co-founded the Scandinavian Center for Shamanic Studies and has been teaching internationally ever since, in Russia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, Sweden and the UK. He has been a frequent contributor to Sacred Hoop magazine and served for some years as European Editor for Journal of Shamanic Practice. He lives with his partner Zara in the woods of southern Sweden at Åsbacka, their home and retreat center. Jonathan is known for his grounded, present and warm teaching style. He sees shamanism as a spiritual path and his main focus is shamanic healing, spiritual ecology and shamanic community work. As a teacher, he feels his role is to help people find the road to the Spirit world, encourage them to accept the power offered, and learn how to bring power back to the physical world.Shamanism is about life. Life is change. Shamanism is change with power.  In this show, Jonathan and Lian explore the topic of  learning from spirit teachers. They begin with Jonathan's own story of attempting to live a more conventional life before realising that it wasn't his true path, that alongside some profound and also disruptive experiences, led him to explore the spiritual realms. Jonathan also discusses discovering his path of shamanism through his friend, well-known shamanic teacher and author, Michael Harner, which went on to inspire him to embrace the practice of learning from spirit teachers. Lian and Jonathan spoke about the transition from learning from human teachers to spirit teachers, stressing the need for patience, trust, and openness in this ongoing process, which can last a lifetime! We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: Working with spirit teachers requires patience, trust, and openness to learn their language and receive their teachings - they may not come in the form we expect or want The transition from learning from human teachers to learning from spirit teachers is a natural progression in the shamanic path, though it's one we can either rush towards or resist. The teachings from spirit teachers are vast and endless, and there is always more to learn. Jimmy Barrett and Dennis Spellman take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 09/11/20.The annual, hallowed tradition of family members reading the names of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 attacks will take place again this year. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, created in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller who gave up his life to save others on 9/11, announced Thursday it is inviting 9/11 victims’ families to take part in a memorial ceremony on Friday, September 11, marking the 19th anniversary of the attacks. Tunnel to Towers decided to take this step after the National September 11 Memorial & Museum announced the reading of the names would not happen at the memorial ceremony this year, citing COVID-19 concerns. Calling in is National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund CEO Marcia Ferranto. Since the onset of the pandemic, there’s been a general feeling that young people haven’t been taking mask and social distancing mandates seriously, leading to silly GIFs and mocking videos of people partying on beaches (c’mon, we’ve all seen them). But is there validity in that general feeling? According to Zenreach, the walk-through marketing company, no. It’s not valid. Zenreach took a closer look at the people who are frequenting traditionally high-traffic businesses like restaurants and bars. Interestingly, what they determined was that no specific age group or gender has been significantly more irresponsible than the other. While close in numbers, women as well as 55-64 year-olds actually showed the greatest increases in traffic at both restaurants and bars. Jonathan Horowitz of Convive Hospitality calls us to break down these recent findings. The Biden-Harris energy plan would inflict California-style blackouts, sky-high costs on our entire nation. That’s why Kelly Greenwood founded her nonprofit, Mind Share Partners, in 2016—to forever change the culture of mental health in the workplace.  In this episode of Succeed Under Stress, Dr. Jonathan Horowitz sits down with Kelly Greenwood, the founder and CEO of Mind Share Partners, to talk about how to effectively remove mental health stigmas from the workplace. On this week's Talk Art, we're feeling the POWER of LOVE! We hear about the shyness of their first date visiting two exhibitions in London: Anselm Kiefer at White Cube followed by Robert Rauschenberg at Tate Modern. As their relationship grew, visiting exhibitions has become an integral part of their life as well as art fairs like Frieze and Art Basel!Ellie discusses her dedication to female artists and how her art collection has evolved since meeting Caspar, the works she used to collect were “dark stuff” gothic in style like ship wrecks or skeletons, skulls or ghosts! Whilst Caspar reminisces about his first art purchase growing up of a poster by Sir Terry Frost, his admiration for his uncle the legendary gallerist Jay Jopling (White Cube), how he advises his friends to support and collect art, and how he even experimented with screen printing and painting during his teens inspired by Rauschenberg, Richard Prince and Andy Warhol. With no motivation for investment, Ellie feels a close correlation between the art she loves and the songs she writes, something she explored whilst writing her forthcoming new album 'Brightest Blue': “I love the idea that you can buy something, that I can stare at for a long time and then it could maybe draw a song or a lyric out of me”. The album's title directly inspired by a Doug Wheeler artwork the couple saw at David Zwirner's gallery in New York. The intense installation of a blue room was “like walking into another world”.Art also inspires her music's visuals, collaborating with creative director Imogen Snell as well as photographers Louie Banks, Ronan Park and Rankin. We discuss her musical collaborator SerpentWithFeet who appears on her new album but also recently sang at her and Caspar's wedding in Yorkshire. We remember her collaborator the late rapper Juice Wrld and the impact of his passing on artists like Katherine Bernhardt and the international art and music communities. Finally we discuss Caspar's experiences working for Sotheby's but also within the film industry, his current studying for his MBA at Oxford University, the recent news of the Gallery Climate Coalition and how the art world is approaching sustainability, online viewing rooms, the positives and negatives of buying art (and clothes) online, and the escapism in lockdown watching period drama Downtown Abbey as well as the joys of completing Kandinsky and Lichtenstein-inspired puzzles! Our guest on this episode of The Addicted Mind podcast is Jonathan Horowitz, founder and director of the San Francisco Stress and Anxiety Center. Jonathan is a clinical psychologist who studied anxiety research in graduate school before transitioning to being a clinician and opening the Stress and Anxiety Center. It is a misconception that anxiety is always a bad thing; in fact, our minds were built to experience healthy anxiety when our bodies sense that they need to be alert to their surroundings. Anxiety starts to become a problem when we cross the line from heeding the warnings of our anxiety and benefiting from it to worrying about our anxiety and taking steps to try to get rid of it.  A significant number of Johnathan’s clients are high-functioning, high-achieving individuals who may be having a difficult time coping with the pressures of their careers.  These individuals might develop behaviors like procrastination, avoidance, or even developing an addiction of some kind in order to numb the anxiety that they are feeling.  Anxiety can also be the result of giving up an addiction because the individual does not know what to do in place of their previous addiction. Jonathan’s advice to those dealing with problematic anxiety is to (1) connect your change in behavior to something that is powerfully meaningful to you, and (2) establish goals and values for your life that involve emotional and cognitive steps or milestones.  The goals can be achieved through mindfulness meditation training, breath work, cognitive restructuring, or other practices as directed by a clinician.  Above all, it is crucial to know that anxiety, whether it is manifested in panic attacks, phobias, or social anxiety, is treatable, so seek the help you need.
