Lama Zopa Rinpoche gives an extensive presentation on the benefits of making stupas. He says that it's so easy to benefit other sentient beings by making holy objects, such as statues and stupas. The minute it's completed, it becomes an object of purification. It purifies sentient beings' negative karma and plants the seed of enlightenment because of the powerful mantras and sutras held within. Rinpoche gives the example of the benefits of the Diamond-Cutter Sutra and the Mitukpa mantra. Just seeing the holy object from afar brings so many benefits, but if you make offerings, prostrate, and circumambulate, then you collect even greater merit.Rinpoche says that it's important to know the benefits of making holy objects and how they offer extensive benefits to sentient beings. He outlines the ten benefits of building a stupa according to Puten Rinpoche. He also talks about the eighteen benefits of building a stupa mentioned in the Sutra Clarifying the Aspects of Karma (which are similar to the ten benefits mentioned by Puten Rinpoche).Next, Rinpoche explains the mantra to recite before building a stupa and the mantras to place inside the life-tree of the stupa. He outlines the enormous benefits of these mantras. He also talks about the mala blessing mantras, which multiply the number of mantras and the merit. Robert Lee Camp was born into a relatively poor family in West Virginia in 1953. The first of seven children, he always had an interest in self-improvement which eventually lead to spirituality. In 1976 he moved full time into a yoga school in Pennsylvania and was a celibate and renunciate for five years and a resident leader and teacher for 10 years. It was there he was first exposed to the idea of astrology to which he took to immediately.Robert discovered the Science of the Cards in 1988 when a friend showed him a copy of Sacred Symbols of the Ancients. He was already doing astrological readings at the time and was stunned by the accuracy of what he read there. That book eventually lead him to his teacher, Arnie Lein, with whom he took numerous lessons in order to master this ancient system. Arnie Lein did not live long after Robert met him and died about a year later. This prompted Robert to dedicate himself to spreading this knowledge of the cards to the world, and write and publish his first book, which was entitled The Atlantean Oracle. He used his knowledge of computer programming to create all the yearly spreads that his book displayed, to make reading the cards much easier than the method taught by Mr. Lein.In 1992 Robert discovered The Order of the Magi, who were located in Paradise, CA. On his second trip to meet with them, he was told he was to be initiated into the Order due to his commitment to the cards and his past lives, in one of which he served the prophet Daniel. In May of that year, he was initiated as a Grand Master in the Order of the Magi on Terra. It was from this initiation that Robert realized the spiritual underpinnings of this amazing system and dedicated himself to making it known to the world.As Robert used and taught the Science of the Cards to others, he made many discoveries about the system, ones that brought out even more meaningful information that had never been taught. Much of what is common knowledge about the cards today is a result of his experience and research.While in Los Angeles, CA, Robert was able to perform readings for several Hollywood celebrities, but eventually decided to move up to Paradise to rewrite his book. With the support of his students, Robert published The Cards of Your Destiny, which became much more successful. He was discovered by accident by Sourcebooks, Inc. just as he was writing his Love Cards book and accepted a publishing deal for both books.After that he spent year teaching classes, developing software, and doing readings for others. Now, over 30 years later, he has sold hundreds of thousands of books and card science has become much more available and visible to the world. His books have been translated and published in Russian, Chinese, and other languages. He continues his work and is helping train students to become readers and teachers. “People should get what they deserve.” I'm guessing that most of us would see this as a general statement of fairness and equity. Of course, for this statement to ring true, we need to agree on who or what ultimately determines what people deserve. On a very basic level, this may sound like karma. So, what is karma? Basically, karma is the idea that what you do, especially your choices and intentions, shapes what happens to you later. If you act kindly and do good, good things are more likely to come your way. If you act selfishly or harm others, you may face negative consequences. In many Indian traditions, this isn't just about this life, it can affect what kind of life you're born into next. So, do Bible teachings supports the idea of karma? Are the two in harmony? Similar principles? While both Karma and the gospel emphasize consequences for actions— “you reap what you sow”— they do diverge significantly in their foundations. Karma, rooted in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, is a complex, often impersonal law of cause and effect, sometimes spanning multiple lifetimes through reincarnation. In contrast, the Bible teaches a single human life followed by judgment in accordance with divine grace and forgiveness offered through Jesus Christ. One may present three biblical arguments that resemble karmic principles: sowing and reaping (Galatians 6), reciprocity in judgment (Matthew 7), and narrative examples of moral consequences (e.g., David and Bathsheba, Achan's disobedience). However, the gospel introduces the key distinction that God's grace is not earned but freely given, and forgiveness is central to Christian life. Karma lacks a personal deity who intervenes with mercy; instead, it operates as a mechanical system of moral accounting. Christianity offers clarity, direction and divine support, while karmic systems often leave individuals to navigate consequences without memory of past lives or a defined path to enlightenment. Ultimately, the gospel is a more compassionate and purposeful framework, culminating in eternal life through Christ, rather than endless cycles of rebirth. Some of the most fascinating gall makers are the gall wasps. This group of organisms is still woefully understudied but people like Dr. Louis Nastasi are trying to change that.
