Holly finds herself in moral swamp while acting as The Devil's Advocate (1997), with Keanu Reeves as a hotshot attorney fighting for his soul after joining a New York law firm headed by The Devil (Al Pacino). Listen as we question whether lawyers actually have souls to lose, the wisdom of living too close to work, and whether the 21st Century is the Devil's playground on this week's exciting episode? I asked the BIT Crew to nominate their favorite episodes for a special August replay while we are on hiatus. I selected one of Thea's picks because it went back to season one - when we were all baby holers. She says, "Googlie Wooglie I like a lot because of Sensei Ken, the fun game with cool words, and just love Geoff's Keanu Reeves impersonation, and Keanu Reeves as Abraham Lincoln." Episode Five has what I consider our best ending. We all break each other—even Billy Merritt. I dare you not to laugh. We'll be back on September 13th with a brand new hole! ~~ In rabbitHOLE's fifth episode, the BIT CREW educates listeners about some critical issues, including: Googlie Wooglie Mc Dojo Grammar Police Konrad takes a deep dive into the origins of the term GOOGOL (a one with a hundred zeroes). He starts the BIT CREW off on an improv adventure of surf lingo, organized crime involving unsuspecting UK co-eds, "re-imagining" history, and mispronouncing words. Episode five has our favorite ending so far…we all just lost it – we hope you laugh so much your sides will ache, and your heart goes pitter-pat. As always, rabbitHOLE is unscripted and inspired by the CREW's real-life rabbit hole adventures. If you enjoy rabbitHOLE, follow, rate, and share rabbitHOLE with your friends! Lock, load, and prepare for a ballistic ride. This week, the Born to Watch crew take on the movie that brought Keanu Reeves roaring back into the action spotlight and set a new standard for gun-fu carnage with their John Wick (2014) Review.Whitey, G Man, Damo, and returning guest Bones gather in the "Red Circle Russian Baths" to break down this lean, mean revenge machine. The premise is simple: they killed his puppy, they stole his car, and now John Wick is going to kill absolutely everyone. What follows is 101 minutes of exquisitely choreographed violence, ruthless headshots, and underworld world-building that's as fascinating as it is stylish. The boys kick things off with an "overs and unders" rewatch count, Bones leading the charge with a double-digit tally, Damo admitting he was late to the Wick party, and G Man revealing this was only his second full viewing. Whitey takes us back to his last days running a video shop in 2014, when he first discovered the movie on DVD and immediately knew it was something special. From there, it's a high-calibre conversation covering the sequels (John Wick 2 gets big love, John Wick 3 cops a length warning, and John Wick 4 is called out for testing bladders at nearly three hours). They crunch the numbers on the original film's body count, 84 kills for Wick alone, and swap favourite takedowns, from the Red Circle massacre to the infamous knife-to-the-chest finisher. But John Wick isn't just about spraying bullets. The team dive into what makes it different: the cool, calculated underworld mythology of The Continental, the gold coin economy, and the assassin's code that adds sophistication to the chaos. They agree that the "no business on Continental grounds" rule is a masterstroke, and that Ian McShane's Winston brings the perfect mix of charm and menace.Keanu Reeves' career gets its own spotlight, with nods to Point Break, Speed, The Matrix, and even the roles he almost played (Platoon, Starship Troopers). Supporting cast members also get their flowers: Michael Nyqvist's quietly menacing Viggo, Alfie Allen's punchable rich-kid villainy, Willem Dafoe's sniper guardian angel, and a surprise cameo from wrestling giant Kevin Nash.In true Born to Watch fashion, the chat spirals into side quests: hot takes on Taken's influence on modern revenge films, debates over whether Russians are cinema's ultimate gangsters, and an oddly passionate discussion on Japanese onsens and Russian bathhouses (including the etiquette of washing before soaking with strangers). They also unpack critical reception, David Stratton's dismissive "all gun battles" take versus The New York Times' praise for its style, wit, and box office performance, noting how word of mouth turned a modest $86 million return into the launchpad for a billion-dollar franchise.Signature segments return in force:Hit, Sleeper, Dud, Swinger – with Interstellar and Edge of Tomorrow as hits, Frank as the sleeper, Dumb and Dumber To as the dud, and Pompeii roasted as a "swinger" that belongs in cinematic ash.Snobs Report Special – veering gloriously off-topic to Alexandra Daddario's career-making scene in True Detective.Question Time – covering everything from the realism of Wick's "magic pills" to whether Iosef's death was anticlimactic, and what exactly makes a headshot so satisfying.Through it all, the crew's affection for John Wick is undeniable. They celebrate its stripped-back storytelling, grounded stunt work, and unrelenting pace, while acknowledging its few stumbles. It's the perfect mix of 80s-style simplicity and modern fight choreography, proof that a revenge story, told well, never goes out of style. If you're a fan of tight, furious action films with a killer lead, a colourful rogues' gallery, and a fictional criminal underworld you want to explore (but not live in), this is the Born to Watch episode for you.JOIN THE CONVERSATIONIs John Wick the best modern action franchise or just a stylish headshot marathon?Which kill in the Red Circle nightclub is your all-time favourite? Is killing the puppy the single most effective way to make an audience cheer for revenge?Drop us a voicemail at https://www.borntowatch.com.au and be part of the show!Listen to the full episode now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your pods.#JohnWick #KeanuReeves #MoviePodcast #ActionMovies #BornToWatch #GunFu #RevengeMovies #CultAction #FilmReview #PopCulture #borntowatchpodcast

In this deeply candid and unforgettable episode of Still Here Hollywood, host Steve Kmetko welcomes Bronson Pinchot, the instantly iconic star of Beverly Hills Cop and Perfect Strangers. Bronson recounts his journey from poverty and an abusive childhood—surviving what he calls “the most enthusiastic and ingenious abuser you can imagine”—to sudden stardom after improvising the role of Serge, the flamboyant art gallery clerk in Beverly Hills Cop, opposite Eddie Murphy. Pinchot shares how that single scene, inspired by a real Israeli makeup artist, turned him into a "same-day sensation." With emotional depth and razor-sharp wit, Bronson opens up about navigating fame, finding healing through storytelling, and staying grounded through a turbulent rise in Hollywood. A must-watch interview optimized for fans of 80s film legends, raw celebrity stories, and unforgettable Hollywood transformations.Show Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com

Okay, we wouldn't necessarily call this movie "great," because it makes a ton of unforced errors. But there's still a lot to like here, including one of the most incredible climactic scenes ever put on film. Keanu Reeves was probably right to pass on this one (and Sandra Bullock basically had to do this), but 'Speed 2' is a fascinating film - and occasionally pretty solid. Let's look back at one of the most maligned sequels of all time, and when you're done, be sure to follow us on social @revengeof90spod and Substack at https://revengeofthe90s.substack.com/.

Diane is still mourning the death of her boyfriend when a game of Words With Friends leads to a connection. The man claims to be actor Keanu Reeves. While initially skeptical, the video chat and voice messages he sends eventually convince her of his identity. As the relationship deepens over three years, “Keanu” will borrow thousands of dollars from Diane for an ongoing legal battle with a former manager. He also asks for her help receiving funds for his charity, which unwittingly makes her a money mule. When a police detective comes knocking at her door, she realizes the man is an impostor who stole over $160,000 from her.

Dracula may never stay dead, but his film incarnations sure evolve—or devolve—across decades. In this episode, Kyle Olson guides Pete Wright, Kynan Dias, and Tommy Metz III through three flavors of Dracula: Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), Dracula 2000, and Dracula Untold. They dig into Coppola's sweaty gothic melodrama, where Oldman chews the scenery and Keanu Reeves gets chewed out. Then it's on to Dracula 2000, where Gerard Butler's vampire has some serious history, and finally Dracula Untold, where Luke Evans broods his way through a Marvel-ified antihero origin story. The team debates: Is Dracula sexy? Is he even supposed to be? Is he best as a metaphor for carnal desire, theological vengeance, or medieval honor? And what happens when you declaw the monster in hopes of building a cinematic universe?Kyle signs off with a legacy worthy of the Count himself, and Tommy reveals next month's theme: rug-pulling horror films with Barbarian, Strange Darling, and the legendary British TV special Ghostwatch.Film SundriesThe List on LetterboxdWatch the movies discussed:Bram Stoker's Dracula: Apple • Amazon • LetterboxdDracula 2000: Apple • Amazon • LetterboxdDracula Untold: Apple • Amazon • LetterboxdThe Drac Pack (00:00) - Welcome to Sitting in the Dark (08:41) - Bram Stoker's Dracula (34:41) - Dracula 2000 (50:36) - Dracula Untold (01:09:11) - The Drac Pack (01:15:44) - But Kyle promised immortality! Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today! Before Netflix, before the Matrix, before Y2K, the viewing public of the late 20th century knew that computers would be important in the future, somehow, and Hollywood studios scrambled to try and produce TV shows and films that capitalized on and read into that unexplored digital frontier. The result was a 1990s that was awash with stories about how the Internet would change everything, from Keanu Reeves having an 80GB brain implant to Sandra Bullock ordering a pizza...from her computer! (gasp!) Most of these efforts followed the template established by the authors of the early Cyberpunk movement, providing paranoiac thrillers in the style of William Gibson. But one series broke from that mold to attempt to integrate the technothrills of tomorrow with the soapy, prime-time thrills of today: Wild Palms. In this episode, we discuss the "weirdness" of '90s TV and the long shot that was the series' production, the viability of cyberpunk soap opera, the complicated alchemy of going off the TV formula, the intersection of culture and fame in LA, the chilling parallels between Wild Palms and our new millennium, human weakness in the face of technology's temptations, subverting the "Blade Runner aesthetic", how media is used to control us, and what cyberpunk tells us about the media's affect on culture. We also talk about Nazi gas-lighting robots, grading the Turing test on a curve, Stacked Clippy, Brisco County Jr., future = Edwardian collars, Cyberpunk Jim Belushi, postmodern law firms, not understanding your mantra, Patriots vs. Quakers vs. Solid Snake, the tacky harbinger of the Apocalypse, writing off into the sunset, and cyberpunk vampires!Hitler, take the wheel! The new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network. What defines real masculinity in a world full of noise and posturing? In this episode, we examine the quiet strength of Tom Hardy and Keanu Reeves—two men who embody humility, discipline, and dedication without seeking validation. From Hardy's jiu-jitsu tournaments to Reeves' relentless film prep, we explore how martial arts and consistent practice reflect true inner strength. Contrasting their grounded ethos with the spectacle-driven antics of “manfluencers,” we highlight the value of self-improvement over performance. Tune in for a powerful reflection on authenticity, presence, and redefining masculinity through silence, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth.--------- EPISODE CHAPTERS ---------(0:00:01) - Celebrating Authentic Masculinity Through Action(0:10:21) - Authentic Masculinity Through Martial Arts(0:19:24) - Embodying Real Strength Through ActionSend us a text
In this reflective and often irreverent solo episode of Spellbreakers, host Matt Trump dives into the cultural funeral of Stephen Colbert's late-night career. From Colbert's early comedic heyday on Comedy Central to his final act as a vaccine-dancing cheerleader for the establishment, Matt unpacks the tragic arc of a once-promising entertainer who, in his view, sold out to political orthodoxy. With humor, personal anecdotes, and a nostalgic lens on Johnny Carson's era, the episode explores the decline of broadcast TV, the death of the late-night format, and the broader cultural implications of Colbert's cancellation. Matt shares his own evolution from former fan to critic, considers why modern talk shows no longer resonate, and even touches on how Colorado and Keanu Reeves might still give him hope. Sprinkled with satire and a little heartbreak, this episode captures a generational shift in American media with one final sendoff, complete with a cringeworthy trip down vaccine musical memory lane.
We need to make “Much Ado About Keanu” Reeves. That's according to pop culture writer Sezín Devi Koehler's new book about the wildly popular – if sometimes underestimated – Hollywood star. Besides acting in eighty films over his 40-year career, from “Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure” to “The Matrix,” Reeves' roles have challenged stereotypes of masculinity, provided representation of Asian American and native Hawaiian communities— and he's known for stepping aside to let his costars shine. We'll talk about what makes Reeves' career “most excellent.” What's your favorite Keanu role? For our third entry into Kids in Trouble, we're covering one of the best indie movies of the '80s: River's Edge. An amazing study on death, apathy, and friendship, this movie is a phenomenal look into what it is to be a kid and have to grow up, quickly. Written by Neal Jimenez, directed by Tim Hunter, with incredible performances from Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, Roxana Zal, Daniel Roebuck, Joshua Miller, and Dennis Hopper.
This week, our hosts Dave Bittner, Joe Carrigan, and Maria Varmazis (also host of the T-Minus Space Daily show) are back sharing the latest in social engineering scams, phishing schemes, and criminal exploits that are making headlines. Our hosts share some follow-up, including a Rick Roll after the last episode. They also highlight a listener note from Evaldas in Lithuania, who explains that companies often use alternate domains for marketing emails to protect their main domain's reputation—so marking them as spam is actually expected. Joe's got a story of a billion-dollar AI-fueled scam where criminals impersonate celebrities like Keanu Reeves and Kevin Costner to exploit lonely fans—convincing them to send money, fall in love, and keep the relationship secret, all while Hollywood scrambles to fight back. Maria has the story of how a federal court blocked the FTC's new “click-to-cancel” rule—meant to make canceling subscriptions easier—due to a procedural misstep, just days before it was set to take effect. Dave shares a story from Reddit about a disturbing extortion scam where a victim received a fake photo of their car outside a strip club—with their real license plate—demanding $1,000 to keep it quiet, raising questions about data scraping and AI manipulation. Our catch of the day comes from the scams subreddit, where a user shares a tale of a scammer promising big returns for investing in gold and diamonds—spoiler alert: it's all glitter, no gold. Complete our annual audience survey before August 31. Apologies: an editing snafu led to last week's episode being reedited and uploaded in the initial version of this post. On this week's episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) ask why Keanu Reeves, of all people, is the most-impersonated celebrity by scammers and how AI is being used to take money from lonely elderly people. (For more, read Rebecca Keegan's great piece in the Hollywood Reporter on this terrifying, saddening subject.) Then they review Superman, an oddly Dubya-coded superhero movie. Make sure to swing by Bulwark+ on Thursday for a bonus episode about Superman's place in the cinematic canon. And if you enjoyed this episode, please share it with a friend!

Vulture and New York Magazine film critic Bilge Ebiri returns to discuss Bernardo Bertolucci's stunning mood piece Little Buddha, a rich and evocative story of an American family who travel to Bhutan after learning their son may be the reincarnation of the spiritual leader of a group of Tibetan Buddhist monks. The film also chronicles chapters in the life of Siddartha (played by Keanu Reeves) who rejects his life of sheltered privilege after learning of human suffering in order to seek a path of spiritual enlightenment. Exhibiting Berolucci's customary visual richness - emboldened by breathtaking images from Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro - and an otherworldly emotional frankness, Little Buddha conjures the sensation and grandeur of a personal spiritual awakening. We discuss the career of Bertolucci and his "Eastern Trilogy" beginning with 1987's Best Picture winner The Last Emperor, in which Bertolucci's fascination with the spiritual and cultural practices of the Asian continent became a personal endeavor into a deeper understanding of his own artistic ethos. Then we unpack the splendid uncannines of Little Buddha and how Bertolucci's directorial mastery allows for a film of constant settling and de-escalation to feel thrilling and proulsive through it's evocation of a preternatural emotionality. Finally, we discuss the west's fascination with the Tibetan independence movement in the 1990s and the American films it inspired during the decade.
